RockoCalenberg 🏁 Rocko's Runtz Rumble – Let the games begin! 🌱
Finally, it's happening again! In Rocko's Runtz Rumble, two exciting Runtz lines get to show what they're really made of this time.
🍈 Melonade Runtz 🍌 Pink Banana Runtz
The pictures of the Melonade Runtz really convinced me: fat, compact buds, loads of resin, and a fruity terpene profile. Just my taste. The Pink Banana Runtz enters the race with a pretty confident announcement. According to Dutch Passion, it’s supposed to produce even bigger buds than conventional Runtz lines. Sounds promising – but that’s exactly what we want to check now. Marketing is patient; the truth reveals itself in the tent.
The first two seeds have been planted – and the germination test has already been clearly won by the Melonade Runtz. It showed itself first after just two days. So the first small victory goes to the Melonade. 🏁
Setup
As usual, the grow is happening in a 90 × 60 × 180 cm tent with two ViparSpectra XS1500 Pro lights. The basic setup comes from the Terp Test and has proven itself. There are a few changes, though: The exhaust has been completely rebuilt and now runs much straighter out of the tent, without the previous bend. Let's see if this makes a difference in airflow, climate, or noise. The trade-off is a bit less height in the tent – so I hope the two Runtz ladies don’t replicate the legendary stretch of the Fruitbomb Punch. 😄
Currently, they are both still in the smallest Airpots. Later, they will move into their final 20-liter Airpots. Until then, they can develop in peace.
As a base, I'm using my used soil from the last run, which has been refreshed with worm humus and other organic ingredients. For about two weeks now, clover has also been growing as a cover crop in the pots, already supporting the soil life.
Fertilization will again be with the Guerilla Tabs, which have already proven themselves in the last grow. Let's see how well the organic concept harmonizes this time with the two Runtz genetics. 🧐
I can already reveal: We are a few days ahead of what’s shown in the pictures. The germination test is decided – but that’s not all. More on that in the next update. 😉
🏁 In the end, it only matters which Runtz rumbles the hardest. 👑

RockoCalenberg 🏁 Rocko's Runtz Rumble – Tag 7 🌱
A week has passed – and this time, we can't really talk about a relaxed start. 😅 The Melonade Runtz has gained a significant lead from day one and is developing exactly as it should. Unfortunately, the situation with the Pink Banana Runtz looks quite different. 5 seeds → 2 plants. What's going on, Dutch Passion? 😬 Sorry, but that can't be the standard. With a germination rate of 2 out of 5, I'm more than disappointed. The Rumble is already starting for Pink Banana with some serious negative points. 👎
Since I had no idea what would come from the additional seeds, Plan B had to come into play – and so a Blue Zushi quickly got a spot in the race.
Wildcard: Blue Zushi!
As it always goes: First, almost nothing wants to germinate – and when you plant a replacement, suddenly more pops up from the soil. 😂 The Blue Zushi is still in the game and gets a slightly smaller pot as a wildcard somewhere on the side. Let's see what it makes of that.
Otherwise, there's not much to report on day 7. During the day, the little ones continue to enjoy the sun on the windowsill, and in the evenings, there's some support from artificial light. Overall, I'm satisfied with the development so far – just the germination rate of the Pink Banana Runtz has been a real disappointment. 😱🤮🤬 The first point in the Rumble clearly goes to Melonade Runtz. 🍈🌱💯
🏁 In the end, it only matters which Runtz rumbles the hardest.

RockoCalenberg 🏁 Rocko's Runtz Rumble – Tag 14 🌱
Two weeks have passed – and overall, I'm very satisfied with the little crew. 🌱
The cultivation continues in a sun-plus-artificial-light mix: If the weather cooperates, they go on the windowsill in the sun during the day, with support from artificial light. Seems like they like it – all are developing nicely and making a good impression at the moment.
The Melonade Runtz is really performing exemplary so far: one seed planted, one germinated – and it was there immediately. 1/1. Since then, it has been growing without any issues and is just doing its thing.
🍈💪
Our wildcard Blue Zushi also came through without any problems and is developing well. So it can continue to participate in the Runtz Rumble. 😄
There's just one thing I still can't get over: the germination rate of the Pink Banana Runtz.
5 seeds planted → 2 plants. 😑
I've since given away one of the two plants, so there's one Pink Banana Runtz continuing in the Runtz Rumble. And it's doing well now – there's currently nothing to complain about with the little plant itself.
But 2/5 for the seeds still leaves me with a pretty disappointing balance. I also no longer believe in any miracles with the other three.
So now all candidates are looking good: Melonade Runtz, Pink Banana Runtz, and our wildcard Blue Zushi. They're still compact in their little air pots before moving to the larger pots later.
Now it's all about continuing to grow, soaking up the sun, and seeing where the journey goes. 🌱☀️
🏁 In the end, it only matters which Runtz rumbles the hardest. 💚

Repotting done – now the ladies can get started. 🌱
After topping last week, this week they went into the final 20-liter air pots.
🍈 Melonade Runtz continues to grow a bit airier, stretching more and overall appearing a bit more delicate. It was also bent a bit this week and shaped with some light low-stress training. For my taste, it could definitely step it up a notch now.
🍌 Pink Banana Runtz is still a bit slow-moving. With the extremely short internodes, there's hardly anything to train at the moment – there's simply no space. Just a leaf here and there can be removed, otherwise, it can do its thing for now.
💙 Blue Zushi, on the other hand, comes across very robust and strong. Wide, distinctly indica-dominant leaves and overall a nicely compact, stable growth. There was no major intervention here this week.
🌡️ Climatically, everything is going really well right now. This is actually almost one of the best grow times of the year: The conditions are very stable and the VPD is nicely within the desired range. Compared to one or two months ago, it’s a difference like night and day – currently, there’s really nothing to complain about.
As a precaution, there was again a full-on attack of beneficial insects. Lacewings & Co. are now part of the regular staff – thrips and fungus gnats unfortunately as well. 😅 So we continue to fight against them consistently.
Otherwise, everything is running smoothly and uneventfully. Now they should spread out in the big pots and show what they’ve got.
Week 4 done – let’s keep going in the rumble. 🥊🌱

One week in the big pots and the ladies are doing great. 🌱💪
This week, all three ladies had Low-Stress-Training on the agenda – but with very different intensity depending on their growth form. No further topping was done. During watering, there was also a dose of RootX with Trichoderma & Mycorrhiza for the roots.
Melonade Runtz continues to grow noticeably airier and is receiving the most intensive training accordingly. She has been pulled down and adjusted repeatedly. Some leaves and shoot tips are growing a bit twisted because of this, and the shoots are generally softer and less vigorous. Especially after being tied down again, she always takes a bit of time to realign everything nicely towards the light.
Pink Banana Runtz, on the other hand, remains the compact beast. Very short internodes and dense growth leave little room for training so far. A few leaves have been removed, and the first clips have now been applied.
The Blue Zushi is currently the strongest in the trio. Thick, deep green leaves, strong shoots, and overall a very robust growth. After topping, she has also received her first LST clips and is just growing vigorously.
Three quite different growth forms and three different starting points. But that's what the Rumble is all about:
In the end, it only matters which Runtz rumbles the hardest. 🥊🔥💚

RockoCalenberg 🥊 Rocko’s Runtz Rumble – Tag 42
Melonade Runtz vs. Pink Banana Runtz + Wildcard Blue Zushi
Tag 42 – the new pots are making a difference. 🌱💥
A week after transplanting into the 20-L Airpots, I can honestly say: the girls are doing great. All three have settled well into their new homes and are visibly growing.
I actually considered flipping to 12/12 around this time. But I’ll probably give them about another week of Veg. The development is on point, but a little more time to fill out and structure won’t hurt.
🍈 Melonade Runtz
Melonade remains the more unique candidate. She grows more open and airy, with longer internodes and multiple shoots that keep wanting to reach up. However, she shows significantly more sensitivity during training than the others. If she’s pushed down or repositioned multiple times, she sometimes reacts with slightly twisted and yellowish spiky tips. Her shoots also feel rather soft and flexible. Still, she’s developing well – you just have to be a bit more gentle with her.
🍌 Pink Banana Runtz – “Pinky”
Pinky remains the complete opposite: a compact beast. Short internodes, dense growth, and a good amount of plant mass in relatively little space. While Melonade keeps stretching out, Pinky is currently forming more of a small bush. I’m curious to see what happens once we switch to 12/12. Given her currently very stout structure, the stretch should be interesting.
💙 Blue Zushi – Wildcard
The Wildcard continues to be a lot of fun. Blue Zushi is growing impressively robust. Strong shoots, thick dark green leaves, and an overall very stable impression. Even though she’s running in a smaller pot and is technically in a different category, she doesn’t have to hide behind the two Runtz at all. She’s also being shaped further with clips and LST.
✂️ Training
No additional topping this week – just more LST and clips. Several of Melonade’s higher shoots were taken down again, Pinky’s dominant center shoot was laid flatter, and Blue Zushi’s shoot distribution was also worked on. Now they should fill the gained space back up again.
🔴 New Experiment: Far Red 730 nm
This week, Far-Red strips with 730 nm are also in the tent. This will be tested cautiously at first – short Far-Red phases around the light cycle or at the end of the day. It’ll be particularly interesting to see if and how this affects the upcoming stretch.
The flip is getting closer. Just a bit more Veg, a little more space to fill – and then it’s finally time to rumble. 🥊🌿
Rocko’s Runtz Rumble – Strictly for Runtz Lovers.
In the end, it’s all about which Runtz rumbles the hardest.

– the last round of Vegi? 🌱🥊
Another week has passed – and it looks like the three have gotten enough Vegi by now.
After the significant boost from last week, they have filled out their space further and are overall healthy and lively. Therefore, I will probably switch to 12/12 tomorrow or the day after. I don’t want to give them much longer anyway.
✂️ Training
This week continued mainly with LST and clips. The goal was less about making any major changes to the basic structure, but rather to distribute the existing shoots as sensibly as possible across the area and to balance out the last larger height differences.
Now they can slowly show what they can make of this starting point.
🍈 Melonade Runtz
Melonade continues to be the one that demands a bit more attention. It’s still growing nicely, but it still shows its lighter or yellowish tips and somewhat twisted new growth.
So far, it doesn’t seem to be slowing down much. Overall, it’s still developing well – just with a bit more drama than the other two. 😄
🍌 Pink Banana Runtz
There’s pleasantly little to report about Pinky at the moment – and that’s meant positively.
It’s reliably growing, staying healthy, and causing no problems during training. Its dense structure has filled out further and it seems ready for the next step.
💙 Blue Zushi – Wildcard
The Wildcard is also moving forward. Blue Zushi continues to make a very strong and uncomplicated impression and keeps up easily despite its smaller pot.
Here too, the distribution of the shoots has been improved a bit. Other than that, there’s currently little reason to interfere too much.
🔴 Far Red 730 nm
The Far Red remains part of the setup for now. After the first cautious tests from last week, it continues to run only selectively and briefly around the end of the light cycle.
🌿 Next stop: 12/12
So the Vegi should be pretty much exactly where I wanted it. The three have found their spots, the training is set, and the area is nicely filled.
If nothing comes up, the starting signal for flowering will be in a few days.
Then the real Rumble begins. 🥊🌿
In the end, it only matters which Runtz rumbles the hardest. 🌱💚✌️

RockoCalenberg 🥊 Rocko’s Runtz Rumble – Day 56
Week 1 of Flowering – The Stretch Begins!
Our three candidates have entered the flowering stage! On Day 50, we switched to 12/12, and already after the first week, things are getting exciting.
The Stretch
Melonade Runtz shot up from 60 to 85 cm, adding a solid 25 cm! She's surprising me a bit right now. Her long internodes and open growth are becoming more and more apparent.
Pink Banana Runtz remains our compact, bushy candidate. She has grown from 50 to 70 cm, adding 20 cm. Compared to the other two, she is still nice and compact.
Blue Zushi has grown from 70 to 90 cm, also a gain of 20 cm. She's slowly turning into a little monster and continues to impress with her strong growth and lush green leaves.
Fertilization and Care
The basic supply continues through the BioTabs in the substrate, which have been doing their job since the repotting. Therefore, a lot of additional fertilization isn't really necessary at the moment.
Pinky and Blue Zushi only received a bit of Fish-Mix at 1 ml/l as a small supplement. At the same time, the Fish-Mix helps us lower the relatively high pH level of our tap water a bit. Melonade was left out of the Fish-Mix since she remains our most sensitive candidate.
Additionally, we used a bit of Green Bull again. Overall, we're consciously keeping the additional feeding restrained – the BioTabs are still handling most of the work.
Health and Pest Control
All three ladies are looking healthy and vital overall. The pest situation also seems to be well under control thanks to our diligent beneficial insects.
However, I still don't fully trust the calm. 😅
Lighting
Our little sunset experiment continues: At the end of the light cycle, there are 15 minutes of Far-Red at 730 nm every day.
Conclusion
Overall, I’m very satisfied with all three ladies. Melonade is surprising me a bit with her stretch, Blue Zushi is increasingly developing into a monster, and Pinky remains our compact candidate.

RockoCalenberg Rocko’s Runtz Rumble – Day 63
Flowering Week 2 – The stretch is winding down!
The second week of flowering is done, and our three candidates have gained quite a bit of height. Luckily, it seems like the stretch is finally calming down towards the end of the week – and to be honest, I’m pretty glad about that. 😅
The Stretch
Melonade Runtz has grown from 85 cm to about 105–108 cm. Her long internodes and open structure are becoming more pronounced. She remains our most sensitive candidate, and some of the upper shoots are showing slight light stress. No wonder, as the distance to the lights has become pretty tight.
Pink Banana Runtz has grown from 70 cm to about 90–96 cm. She continues to be the most compact and bushy of our three candidates and shows significantly shorter internodes.
What stands out now is her evening rhythm: Pinky clearly shows when she wants to call it a day more than the other two. Towards the end of the light phase, she likes to let her leaves droop noticeably, while Melonade and especially Blue Zushi still stand quite upright. 😴 Apparently, each candidate has her own internal clock.
Blue Zushi has grown from 90 cm to about 113 cm and has now taken the lead in height. Our wild card continues to develop robustly and vigorously, living up to her reputation as a little monster.
For all three ladies, the first flowers are now clearly visible. Luckily, it seems like the stretch is finally winding down at the end of the second week of flowering. The daily height gains are decreasing, and growth is increasingly shifting towards flower formation.
I’m really glad about that because there’s hardly any room left to grow upwards. To squeeze out the last available centimeters from the tent, we even had to move the activated carbon filter outside. 😅 Now the three can really focus their energy on the flowers.
Fertilization and Care
The basic supply continues mainly through the BioTabs in the substrate. Therefore, we remain rather cautious with additional fertilization.
With the stretch slowly coming to an end and the increasing flower formation, the focus is now on keeping the plants healthy and evenly supplied through the upcoming weeks of flowering.
Health and Pest Control
Overall, all three candidates continue to look healthy and vigorous.
However, we’re not completely rid of our unwanted guests yet. 😅 The thrips are back, so our beneficial insect program continues, and the situation is being closely monitored.
Melonade remains the most sensitive of the three and reacts particularly to the high light intensity. Pinky is handling it all much more calmly so far, while Blue Zushi continues to appear very robust.
Lighting
Our little experiment with 730 nm Far-Red continues. However, Far-Red is now only running for about 15 minutes as an end-of-day treatment at the end of the light phase.
Additionally, 660 nm Deep Red has been added and runs for a few hours in the middle of the light phase.
Conclusion
Flowering Week 2 has made the differences between our three candidates even more pronounced.
Melonade continues to surprise with her strong stretch and open structure, Pinky remains our compact little bush – and shows the clearest signs of wanting to call it a day in the evening – and wild card Blue Zushi has now taken the lead in height.
But what makes me happiest is that the stretch seems to be finally winding down. After we even had to throw the activated carbon filter out of the tent to squeeze out the last centimeters, it can now really calm down a bit upwards. 😅
The first flowers are here – now the real show can begin.

Flowering Week 3 – Flowering Day 21
Flower Development
For flowering week 3, I am very satisfied with the development. There are many beautiful flower sites visible everywhere, and the first differences between strains are becoming clear: Pink Banana Runtz seems to be forming particularly thick flowers. Melonade, on the other hand, appears a bit looser and scruffier, while Blue Zushi is forming more elongated flower sites.
The flower sites in the middle zone are still rather weakly developed. That's why there's now additional light for the area below the canopy. Overall, I am very satisfied – I hope this continues.
Lollipopping and Light
By flowering day 21, we removed the weaker flower sites below and a leaf or two from the top. Maybe it was a bit too little again – but we tried. 😅
The new Under-Canopy bars are about 40 cm long and provide around 40 W together. They are running at level 8 out of 10. I'm still observing how well the light reaches the middle zone and whether the distance is appropriate.
Watering💧
The plants are drinking well. In the measured pot, I'm at about 30 to 40 percent soil moisture – that's my target range.
Water Values and Supply?
In the tap water, calcium is at 18.3 mg/L and magnesium at 3.3 mg/L. I have CalMag available, but currently, I'm leaning towards using only mono-magnesium since the soil provides enough Ca...
Conclusion
Flowering day 21 brought mainly two changes: weak flower sites were removed from below, and under-canopy light was added for the previously darker middle zone. The flowers there are not as developed as in the brighter areas. Now I'm observing how the additional lighting affects things.
In the end, it only matters which Runtz rumbles the hardest! 🥊🔥💚🌱✌️

Flowering Week 4 – Flowering Day 28
Flower Development 🌸
The fourth week of flowering is done, and I'm still very satisfied with the development. The buds are growing nicely, and the differences between the three strains are becoming more pronounced.
Pink Banana Runtz is slowly turning into a little heavyweight. Its buds are noticeably thicker and denser than the other two. With the short internodes, the bud sites are nicely close together.
Melonade Runtz, on the other hand, shows a more open, elongated, and somewhat scruffy bud structure. It remains my most sensitive candidate. Some leaf tips are damaged, and there are a few small necroses appearing.
Blue Zushi surprises me with a bud structure that looks quite similar to Melonade. Here too, elongated, somewhat tower-like bud sites are developing, but they are a bit more compact. Additionally, there is already very nice resin formation.
This week, I noticed that all three plants have noticeably upright leaves. Especially Blue Zushi showed some really nice Praying Leaves. I love to see that! 😎
The final plant heights are 115 cm for Melonade, 105 cm for Pinky, and 131 cm for Blue Zushi. However, the latter is in a smaller pot and thus sits a bit lower than the other two.
Climate and Technique 🌡️
Dehumidification is now running through the HYDRONE 5. My goal is a VPD between 1.4 and 1.6 kPa. I'm not quite there yet, but I'm already satisfied with values over 1.1 kPa.
The climate control is generally working well, although there are still some fluctuations.
The additional Under-Canopy bars are also still running. Whether the middle flowering zone really benefits from this will show in the coming weeks.
Watering and Nutrients 💧
The drippers are now installed, and I'm really happy with them! The plants are now regularly getting their basic supply of tap water and a bit of mono-magnesium. This works surprisingly well and is a real relief.
Especially, the watering is now much more even. When watering by hand, you don't hit the exact same amount or timing every day. The plants seem to like the regular supply anyway. 😎
The additional fertilization is done through hand waterings. For that, I simply skip a watering interval when needed and instead give a small portion of nutrient solution.
The actual nutrient supply is still taken care of by the BioTabs and the pre-fertilized soil. So, I don't have to fertilize much additionally.
Green Bull is just there as a little support to help the plants cope better with stress from light and climate and to utilize the existing nutrients as efficiently as possible. Of course, everything is nicely dosed sparingly.
Pinky and Blue Zushi have also already received some PK bloom fertilizer to support bud development. I'm still being a bit more cautious with Melonade due to its more sensitive reaction.
Pest Control 🐛
Unfortunately, I'm still dealing with thrips. That's why I've released Amblyseius swirskii and lacewing larvae again.
The little helpers are supposed to further reduce the pest pressure. I hope I can keep this under control biologically.
Conclusion 🌱
Overall, I'm very satisfied with the fourth week of flowering. Each strain is now clearly showing its own character.
Pinky focuses on thick, compact buds, Melonade remains a bit wilder and more sensitive, while Blue Zushi impresses with strong growth and beautiful resin formation.
I'm particularly excited about the surprisingly similar bud structure of Melonade and Blue Zushi. Let's see how different the two will actually be in the end.
All three can now cruise relaxed into the next flowering week. I'm leaning back and enjoying the show. 😎👊
In the end, it only matters which Runtz rumbles the hardest! 🌱💚
Ahhhh, should I say something about the little plants or what? Well, they're pretty awesome, those flowers. I hope they get some music played for them every now and then.😜🤩
@Letterschminge, 😂 Of course, the crew regularly gets an earful! 🎶🌱 Whether the little flowers share my taste in music, I’m not sure. No complaints so far! 😜🤘💚
