Little more than a week.
- Germinated with paper towel method.
- Growing in Coco Coir w/ 25% Perlite.
- Only been watering to date.
- Started 1/4 nutes this morning.
- Have fan blowing on it now.
Pictures show a little more than a week, but c'est la vie
Day 10 - At this point I started watering with 1/4 nutrients. The bag is a 3 gal bag, I pour about 1 liter of water around the plant. The bottom of the bag is still wet when I water/feed the next day.
So I now put a towel under the bag, this helps draw out the moisture. I heard you should only water when the coco is dry, otherwise you suffocate the roots, so this is my solution. Advice?
Are the bottom leaves nutrient burns?
I started nutrients on 1/4 strength this week.
I also had some problems start up. Specifically with some discoloration in the leaves. Asked my reddit friends about it and we narrowed down the problem to watering too frequently.
This is in coco coir. I was watering 1x per day and not letting the roots dry before watering again. To fix the issue, I set it up to drain a little better, and also started watering ever 3 days.
Also, At the end of the week, I topped a node off the top. I was taking the suggestions from Growweedeasy.com, so hopefully it goes well.
Week 4 flew by. I moved nutrients up to about 3/4 nutrients. I'm still in a 3-gal pot, but Im considering transplanting into a 5-gal pot and then beginning some LST.
I also had a nutrient deficiency i think. Overall I upped the nutrients pretty substantially.
My current thought is maybe another 10 days in veg, then switch over to flower. the plant is still relatively small, but it's also mostly sativa, which I hear stretch a lot more.
Short week without many pictures. Work is grinding me to dust.
Had some issues with the plant - I was slow to increase nutrients. I've now increased them and hopefully the plant will recover nicely.
I'm feeding full strength at this point. 3 2 1. about ever 3 days. Giving it another week or so before I flip into flower.
Week 6 - I had a week long work trip, Didn't get to troubleshoot the plant much. Next week I will be gone for another week. We're starting to yellow a little on the fan leaves. I've increased the nutes to full strength.
I think I'll flip her into flower now. She's growing pretty slow, but has reached a decent size.
The LST is workign pretty well.
This week I was out of town for work again. As you can see int he pictures I was having some plant issues. @B4RNS helped diagnose as mag deficiency. For this week I upped nutrients all the way 3-2-1 along with a healthy dose of cal-mag, moved the light furhter away AND replanted into a 7-gal gardening bucket I had laying around (from a 3-gal cloth bucket).
When I got back home, the plant was looking solid! Ready for flower!!!
The photos highlight some of the LST I've been doing.
I went out of town for a week. Wifey watered, but other than that it got no love. I moved to flowering nutrient breakdown (early stage flower). I haven't really been watching temp and humidity, but I did change my nest away setting to run more A/C. Just watering according to the directions on my nutrient bottles, adding cal-mag every feeding.
At this point I did some youtubing of defoliation for flowering. Took a little off the top, and a little from the undergrowth. The videos say to 1) make sure bud sites receive light (remove top), 2) remove shitty bud sites (remove some undergrowth/lower branches), and 3) clean out the middle to keep air flowing and mold away.
I've been feeding according to schedule on the nute bottle, but ended up with a few nute burned leaves near the bottom. I am not going to change anything I'm doing, but i worry a little bit about it.
I read that now I should pay some more attention to humidity and mold. I dont want to get caught with bud-rot by not monitoring. This is a shit time of year here, not too hot, not too cold, so there's a lot of humidity and its hard to run the A/C or heater to get rid of it. I might go get a small dehumidifier for the tent.
Carbon filter has been working great. When I open the tent I can smell a definite lemon zest in the buds (not sure if that's how its supposed to be, but thats what I smell).
Mostly everything is on cruise control for the time being. Watering every 3 days or so. I'm following the directions on the bottles with one exception. Since I'm using CalMag, which has extra Nitrogen, I've cut out the N-heavy solution from my mix.
I've done a little more defoliating since last time. I realize I could do more, and likely get bigger main colas, but for my first time, I want to make sure this is successful as a first priority (rather than maximizing yield).
I think my humidity is becoming an issue. It is always 60%+ at this point. I bought a room-size dehumidifier, but I don't see the effect on my RH reading in the tent. I will probably move the dehumidifier into the tent (but requires taping over some lights).
I've also ordered another 135W light to help move this flowering along. My single light hits a couple colas strongly, but the rest suffer. Trying to fix that.
1) nute issues - clawing leaves
2) wind issue - fan causing wind burn
3) humidity - the dehumidifier I bought is shit
4) buds are coming along slowly - I have another light on the way.
I left town for a week. The plants werent' watered as they should have been. Buds got heavy. The plant turned colors.
I'm beginning the flush now. I see mostly cloudy, but no amber trichs. I think 2 weeks left, max.
Flushing now.
I think most trichomes are cloudy at this point. I have a jewelers loupe, but it's hard to see through.
I see amber trichomes on some of the sugar leaves, more and more amber each day. Today (sunday) they are <5% of the total. I think I have another week before harvest.
Just sitting around and waiting. Goign to buy some glass jars this afternoon for the cure.
@Johnyb,ok I see now. I wasn't sure between over watering, over feeding, and too much light. Now I can definitely say there's maybe too much light bro, this is why she's droopy with purple stems and tips and stripes taco'ed leaves. She's out of Mag and can't photosynthesize properly. That 300w led at 15 inches might be a lil bit too close.
@Johnyb, s**t happens i had 6 die during my first grow.. thought it was as simple as ph, and nutrients had to learn the hard way😢.. lesson learned😔.. best of luck with yo current grow..
@DabCrab,
Thanks bud, I still need to transplant into a 5-gal pot and fiugre out a permanent drainage/setup solution. After that I'll begin LST to hopefully get a wide canopy.
Now those buds are throwing some absolutely beautiful colors buddy. The quality of your plants really shows how much love you've given them throughout their growth. Should be a bountiful and flavorful harvest. My best wishes finishing her up buddy. Cheers :D
@Ripper,
Thanks bud. When I got home from my trip I had a panic attack cause I thought my plant had died. Internet polling said to just continue on with it. These two weeks can't come soon enough. I'm ready!
@payara,
I have a Vivaspectra 300 (probably like 160 true watts I'm guessing) and a Quantum Board 135W which I added in flower.
Also, I just harvested and trimmed it all up. Making some cannabutter now and just a few more weeks til smoke.
Good grow for your first attempt bro! Just curious, Why you're growing only one plant in that tent? Put more seeds bro! Don't waste your time and energy? Keep it up bro!
