I kind of got off to a late start with all the booster nutrients for this girl, for the first couple weeks of flower she only got base nutes. So, I've always felt it was under developed for its age. Buds have started to fill in nicely over the last week, I'm hoping she packs it on over the next couple weeks.
I got a few new pics with my macro lens, the trichome's are very small on this plant and hard to see with the naked eye so I was relieved to see the abundance of them in the photos.
Well, it's Day 64 and everything is looking pretty good. Buds are still not as dense as I'd like to see, but we'll see what the next two weeks bring.
This is the first real trial for these MarsHydro lights, I'm thinking they would be a great light to get plants started, but I need something with more flower power!
So I'm not sure if I pulled the trigger a bit too early for the flush, but I guess we'll see. Today is Day 71 and I started with Flawless Finish Yesterday, I'm hoping I timed it right, some pistils have started to turn brown, mostly lower on the plant and looking closely at the trichs there seems to be a small percentage starting to turn amber, They are mostly higher up on the plant but there is evidence of amber trichs starting lower too.
I planned to try and water three times total with Flawless Finish and then not water her for the last few days before harvest. This is a 7 week strain and Day 77 is a week from today. I know auto's can go over on time sometimes, but I think this one will be close
Until just recently, I've been using the macro lens on my camera to get a closer look at things. I would have sworn trichs were turning amber, must of been a result of the flash or something because I just bought a jewellers loupe and what a difference! Upon closer inspection, everything is milky but nothing is amber. I had about 10-20% brown pistils and no amber trichs so I decided to stop flushing and feed her once or twice more until ready to resume. There is a pretty rapid browning of the pistils now (50-60% in the lower areas) so I started the flush again in hopes I can take her down in the next 5-6 days.
I'll know better for next time, and I know I've probably wasted a few days of bulking up on some good bud meat but that's how it goes lol... live and learn!
Overall, I'm quite happy with the outcome of this grow. Smells awesome!! This was a really easy strain to deal with, it grew to over 50" and I never had any real issues with it.
She came down on day 80 and the total freshly harvested plant weight, stalk and all was 846 grams. 585g bud (on stems), 76g trim and 185g stalk.
The final outcome was 136g of kick ass buds!
Looking forward to the next Candy Cane I get rolling, still have three beans left. I learned a LOT during this grow, and the next ones will only get better.
I want to ask the masters that have been following this one a question or two before I jump the gun, so... @Bigpun@Clubriot @@Tryhard
I live in a dry climate, generally 30-40% RH in the summer and worse in the winter I have to get another humidifier pronto as I have no way to control the climate in my drying area.. next purchase for sure!
The plant has been drying for roughly 2.5 days, all the small to medium nugs seem to be dry. I busted one up, smoked it no problem. So I decided to pull the main cola out just to check, weighed it and it went from 50g to 14.5g in that time... seemed like too much too fast to me. None of the stems, even the smaller ones snap so I know they are not dry but the buds seems almost dry and brittle.
In an effort to hopefully slow it down a bit, I trimmed all the buds off the stems they were drying on and got everything into mason jars with 62%RH Boveda paks. I'm wondering how I should handle my dry weights for the diary? Should I wait a week? two? also, is this going to stabilise the moisture in the buds and even cure properly?
@Squirrel_Master, Ideally what you want to do is wait at least 7 - 10 days. I live in a high altitude arid desert. My buds dry extremely fast. Still it takes at the very least 7 days for my buds to all dry perfectly. Some buds dry faster than others, a few of the bigger buds will always take longer. I posted my dry harvest weight after 8 days of drying as none of my buds were too large but if you have larger buds sometimes they'll take up to 10 days to dry and sometimes even longer. The initial moisture will leave the bud at a rapid rate dropping the moisture content down to 30% - 40% within the first 5 days and it may appear and even feel dry but it is not considered completely dry. It still takes time for the moisture in the bud to equalize and be considered actually dry. When bud is called dry it must have a moisture content below 13%. Thats what the labs consider to be acceptable levels of moisture to test for potency and contamination like mold and pests. So dry bud must be below 13% moisture content which relatively will take at the very least around 7 days on average in the most ideal of conditions. It will most likely take more time if you have larger buds.

On page 10 they explain:
Most Cannabis is dried and cured to a final water activity level of Aw
0.30 – 0.60 This corresponds to moisture content values of between 2%
and 13%.
On page 35:
1. Water activity can be used as a marker for overall microbial levels:
Cannabis with water activity levels above Aw 0.65 should be returned
to producers.
It'd be illegal to sell people bud with a moisture content of above 13% here in my state where it's legal; it wouldn't even be taken by the labs for testing.
I hope that helps buddy. Everything looks fantastic with this grow. Great job :D
@Squirrel_Master,Some of the Masters on this site put the buds dry for 10 days, I personally put the buds dry for 4-5 days at 23-26 degrees celsius in the drying room where two fans work, then put the buds in jars without a lid. I do not weigh the dry buds, those who visualize the pictures can approximate them. @CANNASIM can help you more about this, he's a very good guy.👍👌
@Squirrel_Master, yeah man my cheese dried quite quick as well.
When I put mine into jars I tried some with 62% packs and some without either way I burp them at least twice a day in the start to make sure there was no moisture build-up I found the ones without the humidity packs cured better I think the humidity packs are better for keeping cured weed at the right humidity rather than to use in curing just my thoughts. I would at least cure for a week before you weigh them and you can tell when you start burping the jars and you stopped feeling the humidity rise you know they're starting to stabilize
I've been curious about Crop Kings Candy Many auto for some times now.I'm currently growing their Sour Jack strain and was thinking about maybe ordering this next.I'll be following your diary to learn more about this and see how your grow turns. out.
@Bigpun, Thanks man! I hear ya, I think this is where experience really comes into play, and I've still got a lot to learn. I woke up about 60-80% brown pistils and they have tightened up to the buds some more.
She is 80 days old today and I'm sure I could have let her go a few more, but my vehicle wouldn't start this morning so I stayed home from work. It seemed like life's way of telling me today is harvest day lol.
More pics and the final tally to come.
@BigDaddyK, yeah I think it helped a bit. I started rotating the plant every couple days because one side that was under the small light seemed to shoot up. Now I've got it aimed at the seedlings in the same tent.
@BigDaddyK, I'm pretty sure the MarsHydro Reflector 96 pulls just shy of 200w at the wall with both veg and bloom mode activated, and the smaller panel about 36 actual watts. "They" say the Reflector 96 is equivalent to about a 250w MH/HPS.
@scruffbeard, totally possible, you'll find that's the case with most or all breeders. I started two CKS Candy Canes at the same time, one was a mad stretcher like yours and the other one didn't make it past the first week.
@Squirrel_Master, Ive got like two phenotypes I think. One is just a mad stretcher with no real leaf growth, and the other two are staying rather stout.
Very nice Grow! 👍 How did you like using the Terpinator? I just ordered some and I am curious to hear how you liked it and if you see a big difference in results. Thanks! Keep up the great work
Thanks @DeepRoot3d, This was my first go with Terpinator and the Candy Cane strain, so I can't really answer that accurately.. also I started using Terpinator pretty late into flowering. I was using 30ml/g and I'm pretty sure 40ml/g for the last week or two.
I'll know a little better in 5-6 weeks when my current Cheese is done, it has had Terpinator since week 2-3. I've grown a Cheese plant prior without it so at least I have some kind of reference this time.
Absolutely beautiful nugs and color, holy god ☀️ I'd love to smoke that, the smell and taste must be insane🔥💣, awesome tree format 🌳. Great work keep the green thumb 👏👍
You might want to not put those humidity packets in the jars mixed with the buds because it may change the taste. I recommend putting the corner of the packet at the top of the jar and sealing them so that they are suspended above the buds and not mixed-in.
Thanks @DopeLeaves, They were actually only in there for the day the photograph was taken. I received some similar advice after posting the pic, I put them in because I thought my buds were drying out too quickly. I just left them out and opened the jars for a couple hours a day to slow my drying process. Turns out I didn't even use the Boveda packs at all... They seem good for long term storage, not really a problem I have considering those seven jars are empty now lol.
Great job with this grow buddy!
She turned out beautiful and you ended up with a fantastic harvest. I'm loving how you showed the harvested bud all in 1 picture in those jars :D
Keep up all the great work. I'm excited to see more grows from you in the future.
Thank you @DabCrab, I love doing this lol, I love that the amount of care you put in directly reflects what you get in return... in quality and quantity. I cannot wait to get a year or two behind me and see where we're at then.
Thanks for the complements on the pics of the jars. Hahaha, I could take a couple more now, but sadly there would be a couple less jars. I cooked all the trim into budder yesterday and made Shortbread CannaCookies this morning, the edibles from this plant work very nice, Feeling no pain today!
Gotta say, I'm really glad I stumbled onto GD! I was searching around for some kind of database template I could download to keep track of my girls when I found this place. I really like the sense of community here, growers helping growers.. with very little BS.
Cheers!
@Mindbodycannabis, Thanks! I'm not sure if I have any pics of my girl that early, I'll have a look when I get home and let you know if I do. I can tell you I remember thinking it was off to a slow start, I had made some kind of mistake in the beginning and both seedlings were not doing much. I ended up losing one and the other just started blowing up somewhere around 5-6 weeks. I will be low stress training my next Candy Cane in an effort to keep her low and bushy. I could not raise the lights in my tent anymore with this one lol.
