Getting closer to harvest. Very excited. I think I will wait until the third week of October to harvest. I gave them the last nutes I am willing as of now. Flush time is about to begin. I was never able to lower my soils ph below 7.

If you can grow tomatoes in your soil you can grow weed they are very comparable in terms of growth habits. Your in a very dry area so too much rain rotting your roots shouldn't be an issue. Clay conditions make it difficult for the roots to penetrate it creating a shallow root system which can be prone to heating up and drying out too quickly. Since your grow looks like it's in great shape you can lightly top dress your soil with some good quality organic soil mix and then apply a thin layer (3")of organic mulch to help keep the root zone cooler and conserve moisture. Just pull back the mulch when you feed then recover the soil. As far as harvest time. Go by the buds. The white pistils will begin to dry and turn orange then curl into the calyx. When about 50% of the pistils have dried check the trichomes with a 40x jeweler loupe with led light(Amazon.com) Depending on what type of high you like will determine when to chop. The trichomes will start off mostly clear then turn cloudy/milky then amber you will have a mix of all of them on the buds. Most folks like to chop when they have 5% to 30% amber trichomes. You can also harvest in stages to try and see which you like best after drying and properly curing your bud. You have a way to go by the looks of the bud development. I hope this helps you out.👍

I just found a spot that is making me think bud rot. I so hope it's not true. Slight discoloration of pistols and leaves in a bud node. I added a picture in this weeks section. Please tell me it isnt bud rot.

I'm not really seeing much as far as anything that screams bud rot to me. I looked over this week and last week and the only thing that stands out is the last pic of last week has some dark green sugar leaves in the bud and the pistils are slightly discolored. That doesn't really grab me as bud rot or any other type of mold. It is possible for it to be bu rot just expressing itself a little differently so I would keep a close eye on it for sure, but honestly with outdoor grows it could be a number of things. Maybe a bug got in there and did something or maybe it is just some weird environmental or genetic thing. Either way, I wouldn't take any action as of yet. Let it play out a bit and see what it does. If it winds up looking more brownish and rotten then just chop it off. If not it might be just fine.

How will I know when in almost too late to harvest? I want a strong couchlock effect and heard the longer the better. But I dont want them to self fertilize. I live in Amador county California of that helps based on my zoning.

If you want a couchlovk effect then stick with the amber trichomes. Amber trichomes GIVE the couch lock effect while the social side and buzzing effect comes from the white/cloudy trichomes. Preferably and in my opinion you want a 70/30 ratio. I would invest in a jewelrs microscope. You can get them on Amazon for 15$ or cheaper. There you can look at the trichomes with a good view at hand. You'll be able to see the difference between the trichomes and judge it from there. Also depending what day of flowering you are on and what strain you're growing will also help. Different strains give different effects. Do NOT wait too long. Thc degrades once the plant has hit its peak. So personally what I would do is check your trichomes and if its 70/30 give or take it's time to flush/chop. If you cant tell or dont have a microscope, research the strain and see the average flowering time and go from there :) Its all based on preference tho! Many growers will tell you different, you just have to find out what works for you! Best to your Grow- Visions 🌱💨

Based on your pics it looks like you're about ready. Mid October is probably the latest you want to harvest outdoor (most strains are ready late sept, early oct.). Get a magnifying glass and look at the trichomes as stated by others. Some strains don't really turn amber, and by the time they do it's too late for harvest. Generally, the more trichomes which are amber, the more sedative qualities you'll have. But as long as your trichomes are all at least milky white, and especially if you see some amber. You'll be ready for harvest. Another point to note is that proper curing over a length of time, in my opinion, is just as important as waiting for the trichomes. Slow cure in mason jars for at least 3 months and you'll notice a dramatic increase in sedative quality. I'm sure you'll notice as you make your way through it. The stuff that sits longer just keeps getting better.

If you want a good couch lock high go with 20% amber yes it depends on if you have a sativa indica or hybrid. But you bubba Kush will do the trick. Looks to me you can go one more week then chop. Also another tip is to harvest right before the lights come on that day. So you harvest when your plant isn't making sugar and startches. Damn good job though

I always hear the stuff of amber trichomes.... and couchlocking effect.. but i would say 95 percent to get this effect is to choose the right strain. So i go mosttimes like this,, trichomes are milky iam starting to flush.. the risk of selfpollinating Indoors) of molding ( outdoors) is to high for me

@Mrs_Larimar, I harvested all the lower sections of the plant on the left. I left the top four colas to see how far they can go. I havent harvested anything else yet. Triches are all cloudy and amber. I pay very close attention to the plant and its growths looking for nanners and molds and other pests. I was able to stop the Cabbage Loopers thank all that is Infernal 😈. Where I live has fairly low humidity. We have high fire danger. I dont think molds will be problematic.

Interesting find. BT will definately work on them. You may have to pick some out by hand so keep on the look out. They also have pheromone traps , Trichogramma Wasps that will kill the eggs. All f-ing bugs must die ! Except bees of course.

Couchlock effect has more to do with strain having more indica genetic rather than harvest time; that been said amber thricomes (late harvest) produce a more sedate effect more in line with what you are looking for at the price of degraded THC. There are a couple of signs that indicate the harvest time is approaching: first the would be seed pods (calyxes) swell, then the pistils (hairs) change color to a red / brown, finally they retract, this simptoms happen 7 to 10 days before thricomes been at peak time (white color).

@@Athos, Thank you for the input. The strains I am growing are almost entirely Indica. I've noticed few amber trichomes on the outer parts of larger sugar leaves. Havent seen any on actual buds though. Many are still clear, some are white. Should I continue to use the Bud Candy and Overdrive during flush?

@Philindicus, As far as I can tell. The cabbage loopers have all gone away. I heard this morning we (california) are expecting blizzard conditions and up to 50 inches of snow in some areas. This is cause for concern to my girls.

If the plants have been in the ground with the same ocean forest soil for at least 6 weeks it should be getting depleted of nutrients by now.I would use half strength nutes then water in between each feeding. Try to get 2 feedings in a week. Do a wet/then let her dry type cycle since your in clay soil mix. If her leaf tips aren't yellow, brown or curling like a claw she is good and you should be able to slowly increase until you work up to full strength nutes over a couple/few of weeks. You want low nitrogen, medium/high phosphorus and high potassium during this stage of bloom. Just try to stick with one nutrient line if possible the Humboldt micro, grow bloom line up is good use their feed chart. http://www.humboldtnutrients.com/blog/3-part-soil-feeding-schedule/ If your still nervous start at 1/4 strength nutes. If possible pick up a TDS meter and try to list your ppm of your nutrient solution it's the most accurate way of knowing how strong the solution you are mixing. Also if possible try to lower your ph to 5.8 to 6.5 range when watering and feeding the nutrients are absorbed more efficiently in that ph range.👍

@Philindicus, it's not just ocean Forrest. It was hard clay ground and rocks tilled 2 feet down and amended with vermiculite, perlite, fox farm ocean Forrest and garden sulfur to lower the alkalinity. The ground only had weeds growing prior to my garden. I'm sure it has lots of nutrition as is. Would you agree that the Sensibloom pt a and b with ph perfect would be sufficient to correct my ph?

8-10 weeks of flower and on the clay that’s a tough one as we can’t really tell what your looking at exactly but I could imagine your gonna have some problems with flower as if it’s building up I could imagine so will the NPK ratios and you may see it lock out
DomanAtrik
DomanAtrik
@Majormolasses, Thank you for the input. Being where the clay layer is, I havent had to water them for 7 weeks. They havent shown any signs of stress (leaf curling, ends dying, leaf spotting etc). I wont be adding nutrients as previously mentioned... unless I start seeing a deficiency of some sort.

Sorry to hear about last years crop came out smelling like hay. How were you drying her? Did you let her dry nice and slow? were you able to give her time to cure? Seems like if weed dries too fast and too dry it will hold on to that hay like smell.
DomanAtrik
DomanAtrik
@Philindicus, I hung them on a string in a dark breezeway with a fan gently blowing away from them. Pulling air not pushing. I may have over zealously trimmed early contributing to the hay smell lol. It's a learning curve haha.
