Dinafem Moby Dick Feminized Light is HLG 550 v2 r-spec, running sensi coco 2 day soak in ph'd water and seed planted aug 1st, broke surface aug 3rd, Pre soaked coco (70/30) with light nutes. Switching to 18/6 when i start to see the first set of leaves come in. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, the plan is to top the hell out of her and fill around 80% ish of a 5x5 tent scrog in a 5g smart pot. I will be taking some clones in late veg. Veg time will probably be a bit longer than usual (12-16 weeks) and expecting pretty high feeding and /possible/ root bound issues. I could run a 7 or 10g and be fine but i'm curious how the 5g will do all things considering. This may change come transplant time, 5g>7/10g Pretty excited as i've heard good things from friends about growing this strain. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using dechlorinated tap water, 162 PPM / 7.42 PH AVG base. Coco was pre soaked with light nutes to 6.41 PH / 330 PPM runoff --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aug. 3 - SD-0 - 10AM - skip Aug. 4 - SD-1 - 10AM - skip Aug. 5 - SD-2 - 10AM - skip Aug. 6 - SD-3 - 10AM - 6.35 PH light misting Aug. 7 - SD-4 - 10AM - 6.38 PH water - 6.32 PH / 306 PPM runoff

Transplant slowed growth but she seems to be taking it well so far. Aug 18 - 15 - 10AM - 6.34 PH 713 PPM - no runoff, i feel like i should be soaking the entire media at this point for runoff but not sure if it'll affect root zone growth. Also don't want huge salt buildup early on due to tap water hardness. I didn't want to overfeed/water and stress her more after transplant. Aug 19 - 16 - 10AM - skip Aug 20 - 17 - 6.37 PH 780 PPM - no runoff - not a happy camper today Aug 21 - 18 - skip - Much happier today. Gonna start topping in a day or 2 since 5th node is starting to push out more. Node spacing is looking nice and tight and i might have to maybe do a little LST in a week or so. Aug 22 - 19 - skip - topped 5th node, feed tomorrow Ayg 23 - 20 - 6.31 PH 903 PPM 1 gallon feed - medium was bone dry. Stems look a bit redder today Aug 24 - 21 - skip, looking good - a couple spots i'm seeing on the leafs will see and look into it more tomorrow. See you next week

Aug 25 - 22 - She's growing nicely, bottom few leafs curling down and spots are getting a little more apparent. - 3 gallons 6.33 PH 160 PPM water -Flushed to runoff, need to see whats going on with the PH before i proceed to fix the issue, 1st runoff 6.54 PH 820 PPM , 2nd runoff 6.34 PH 490 PPM. Will see how she does tomorrow Aug 26 - 23 - Medium still damp, another flush for PH tomorrow then starting nutes again. Really starting to grow now Aug 27 - 24 - 1 Gallon 6.01 PH 172 PPM water with hydroguard - 1st runoff 6.66 PH 374 PPM, need to get this runoff much lower. 1 Gallon 5.68 PH 174 PPM water with hydroguard - 2nd runoff 6.48 PH 348 PPM. Need to continue to lower PH as i'm sure that's where the spots was coming from. Bottom branches pushing up much more now, might have to LST a little soon. Aug 28 - 25 - Have to raise lights a little bit, bent some branches around to help the lower parts bush out. Roots are poking out of the bottom sides of the fabric a little. Nute feeding tomorrow Aug 29 - 26 - lighter feed than last times nutes, 1 gallon 5.95 PH 725 PPM - Runoff 6.69 PH 245 PPM, showing small signs of def on top leaf tips but that should clear up. Feed again tomorrow and see how she does. Aug 30 - 27 - 5.75PH 720PPM 1 gallon, runoff 6.49PH 298PPM, another topping soon. See you next week

Aug 31 - 28 - business as usual, feed again tomorrow and start a bit of lst and possible topping. Sept 1 - 29 - 1 gallon 5.63PH 760PPM, runoff 6.46PH 467PPM rubber tie downs havent came in mail yet, lst and topping either tonight or tomorrow Sept 2 - 30 - 1 gallon 5.74PH 774PPM, runoff 6.25PH 436PPM - topped two main branches and applied a little lst to help the lower branches come out more. I will defoliate 15% in another week or so Sept 3 - 31 - chill day, turned her a bit. letting her relax after top. Sept 4 - 32 - 1 gallon 6.12PH 679PPM, runoff 6.21PH 649PPM. Not a lot of runoff, more aggressive lst tomorrow. Sept 5 - 33 - 1 gallon 5.83PH 702PPM, runoff 6.18PH 571PPM. Agressive LST, split one of the top branches off the main stalk a tiny bit but should heal fine. Sept 6 - 34 - another chill day, still growing nicely. Defoliate bottom a bit tomorrow and increase nutrition amount a little soon. Trellis will be setup in a week or two. I'm really tempted to flower earlier instead of waiting and filling out the whole 5x5 with scrog, we'll see. See you next week!

Sept 7 - 35 - Upped nutes a little to see how she handles it - 1 gallon 801ppm 6.26ph, runoff 487PPM 6.22PH. Defoliate + top again tomorrow, it needs defoliated badly. My friskars broke one blade when i was trimming my carolina reaper plant so i had to order another. Starting to notice a light smell in the tent now. Still debating on when to flip, i have a feeling if i go 12 weeks i will regret it and she will get out of control even with trellis setup as i've heard this strain can stretch pretty bad. Also, will more than likely have root bound (5g pot) issues if i push 12 weeks even with a fabric pot.. Might go 8-10 weeks and set the net up soon to (hopefully) get it filled out a bit before flip so i still have room to tuck at least some of the stretch without much issue. If i go 8-10 i will top maybe 2 more times at max Sept 8 - 36 - 1 gallon 6.34PH 805PPM, runoff 6.00PH 463PPM - defoliated all the lower interior trash and fan leafs blocking sites and topped about 8 times, probably went a bit overboard even though it might not look like it but whatever. Expecting her to hate me for the next few days. Sept 9 - 37 - switching to 3 day feed 1 day off and added calmag - 6.36PH 1.15PPM, runoff 6.03PH 496PPM - she's handling the stress like a champ, really nice strain. Putting scrog net up in a day or two and removing lst rubber wires. Sept 10 - 38 - Chill day, setup scrog later on tonight Sept 11 - 39 - 6.63PH 1.31PPM, no runoff - medium was pretty dry after a day, Might need to go up to 1 1/2 to 2 gallons a feed since after the rest day 1 gallon never gives any runoff whatsoever anymore. Scrog net is pretty junk (china) but whatever i didn't feel like making one. Also gonna re calibrate PH pen soon. Really surprised i haven't ran into no crazy issues yet as my luck usually is not the greatest lol Sept 12 - 40 - wasn't around all day, couldn't get anything done Sept 13 - 41 - 2 gallons 6.79PH 1.12PPM, runoff 5.85PH 867PPM - some tips are a little burned but that's okay, runoff PH still steadily dropping and gonna drop the calmag this coming week. Don't think i'ma top anymore and will probably flip in 1-2 weeks as i don't wanna make things super hard for myself on first grow. To be honest she seems to of slowed growth a little to me, unless i'm just blind..heh, See you next week!

Sept 14 - 42 - skip Sept 15 - 43 - skip, leafs are sweating like crazy on the other leaves, never seen that much liquid sweat before so i waited another day to feed Sept 16 - 44 - 2 gallons 6.84PH 722PPM, runoff 6.02PH 985PPM - dropped the calmag for this week - pulled scrog net off and defoliated pretty heavily, fan leafs was blocking so many growth sites after last growth explosion so all but the top look pretty immature and was not progressing, i should of did this a little earlier. She's starting to throw a lot pistils as well on quite a few branches. Expecting her to have a shitty week and weak growth due to stress from the heavy defoliation. Also removed all LST rubber wire as the thick branches are not going anywhere now. Plan is to flip around week 9 or 10, need the screen to get filled out a little. Sept 17 - 45 - looking much happier after defoliation Sept 18 - 46 - 1 1/2 gallons 6.69PH 853PPM, runoff 6.16PH 602PPM - business as usual - raised lights up (4 inches) to 28 inches since the top tips was getting a little burned. I can already tell my canopy will be a bit f'd come flip time but it's a learning experience. Don't think i will be able to fill out a lot (50%) of the scrog before flip. Some leafs are still sweating a bit onto other leafs Sept 19 - 47 - chill day Sept 20 - 48 - 6.72PH 803PPM, runoff 6.41PH 886PPM, defoliated a little more of the bs on the bottom, will do 1 more pretty heavy defoliation in a week. Just tucking branches atm. See you next week

Sept 21 - 49 - chill Sept 22 - 50 - 1 1/2 gallon 6.11PH 1.12PPM, runoff 6.33PH 473PPM - defoliated pretty heavily again so she looks pretty mangled, she needed it bad again and this will be the last one until week 2ish flower for the final. Tons of little crap branches popping up and tons more fan leafs blocking more new growth that needed to be gone. Light is actually getting through much much better now. Topped a few more sites as well and took a dozen or so clones. Raised light to 30 inches from canopy. I've been stressing her out a bit too much over the past couple weeks and she's been really droopy (could be N toxicity) so gonna chill until flip next week. Put her back on Cal-Mag Xtra for the remainder of her life and upped Silica. Canopy will probably be pretty jacked up when i flower but oh well, i tried. I'd let her fill out the canopy a bit more but worried about her getting root bound, regret not running a 10g pot now. Sept 23 - 51 - perked back up, staggering feeding seems to be going better at the moment. Slight discoloration on some fan leaf tips. 4 more days of slight tucking then flip. I've made a few mistakes during mid veg that i see now. Main mistake being clipping some of the middle branches that i should of kept for the middle of the canopy as it's hard to see but there isn't a whole lot of tops there compared to around the outside of the plant and not defoliating well enough. I also should of been more active in topping after initial 5th node top as i waited a bit too long to top more, i topped quite a bit just not early enough. Alsoooooo should of been more vigilant in defoliation as i left her for a few weeks extremely bushy on the interior which basically is why i waited so long to continue topping. Despite all this i am pretty happy regardless as i expected more issues. Oh well, this has been a pretty good learning experience so far and she's been good to me. Sept 24 - 52 - 1 1/2 gallon 6.29PH 1.02PPM, runoff 6.14PH 563PPM (barely much runoff) Sept 25 - 53 - 1 1/2 gallon 6.20PH 1.03PPM, runoff 6.30PH 863PPM - she needs defoliated again...thirsty girl - Not gonna lie i love how fast she bounces back but i'm hating how quick she bushes back out, i even raised the light before to try to get her to push out more but meh.. Sept 26 - 54 - change of plans, i couldn't take it anymore and i was super worried about airflow problems and stressing her during flower. Removed the trellis so i could remove a literal crap ton of leafs and a few lower branches that wasn't getting anywhere and immature growth. I tried to go up each individual branch as best as i could. I will probably thank myself for this later despite the current stress she's getting. Still probably gonna flip this coming week despite the stress and stunted growth from this but whatever. Sept 27 - 55 - 4 gallons of 6.04ph'd water (base water is 162PPM) to check things out before flip and switch to flowering nutrients, 2 gallon runoff 1 6.20PH 1.11PPM, 2 gallon runoff 2 6.19PH 1,08PPM A bit of what i am assuming is salt buildup been starting to show up over the past week on the bottom of the pot since i'm pretty sure it's not mold, temps been steady + humidity has been great (picture) - need to lower feed amount a bit especially since signs are showing on some leaf tips. Gonna flush again tomorrow with just water then start bloom nutrients the day after. See you next week for the inevitable mess up but hey, gotta learn somehow.

Sept 28 - 56 - 4 gallons of 6.15 ph'd water Sept 29 - 57 - 1 gallon 6.35PH 1.03PPM, runoff 6.38PH 773PPM - already bushing back out, waiting for the stretch. Sept 30 - 58 - 1 gallon 6.34PH 973PPM, runoff 6.48PH 584PPM - humidity is rising a bit at night and hovering at 60% past few days, would like to get that back down around 55 so ordering a dehumidifier before it becomes a problem. Oct 1 - 59 - 1 gallon 5.64PH 843PPM, runoff 6.34PH 789PPM - Woke up to humidity at 70%, not good. Humidifier should be coming in today. Lowered Cal-Mag by half, still seeing some lower leaf tips burned but don't want to lower A+B anymore than it already is. My scrog is pretty crap. Oct 2 - 60 - Chill day to let her soak up a bit more of whats in the medium, yesterday had 45% ish runoff. Tucked a little bit to open up some nodes, and been picking a few lowers leafs off here n there daily, not too much so she doesn't stress. Dropped humidity to 50% Oct 3 - 61 - 2 gallons 6.25PH 861PPM, runoff 6.25PH 990PPM - Not skipping anymore days for feed - halved silica, will drop it completely around week 3. PPM is rising above what is going in so gonna check again tomorrow and possibly drop feed amount a little depending on the runoff. Oct 4 - 62 - 5.72PH 853PPM, runoff 6.13PH 1.06PPM - not many pictures this week, not much going on. PPM still rising - still tucking a bit, some of the leafs look a little screwed up because when i tuck it's extremely hard since she has been so bushy so some leafs have been getting ripped a little. Raised lights to 32 inches for the remainder of the grow. She looks jank atm but that's ok lol i'm not expecting anything crazy this run See you next week!

Oct 5 - 63 - 1 gallon 6.46PH 871PPM, runoff 6.07PH 1.10PPM Oct 6 - 64 - 1 gallon pure water 6.34PH 142PPM, runoff 6.08PH 1.23PPM - PPM still rising pretty sure its salt buildup, gonna run just water for another day or two then switch to a Feed>Feed>Water schedule like i should of been on, dumb mistake. I've been hammering her with nutrients for a bit now even though she's taking it well, the medium will screw me eventually. Live and learn i guess. Gonna defoliate one last time in a week or so and raise the QB power slowly from 50%>100% til the end of flower. Oct 7 - 65 - 1 gallon water 6.35PH 162PPM, runoff 6.11PH 1.08PPM - finally starting the stretch, PPM is still high, gonna run another gallon of water through before lights off. Not seeing any new pistils yet. Gonna tuck one more time and just let her go --PM time - 1 gallon water 6.45PH 164PPM, runoff 6.13PH 854PPM - runoff temp was pretty cool, 64.3F, initial gallon was around 72F Oct 8 - 66 - 1 gallon water 6.44PH 162PPM, runoff 6.11PH 642PPM - Last day of just watering to lower runoff PPM, back to normal schedule tomorrow. Oct 9 - 67 - 1 gallon 6.35PH 655PPM, runoff 6.31PH 411PPM - Dropped silica completely, no cal-mag til next week. Runoff looking much better. Tucked a few branches for one last time to get more light to nodes, some of the branches are very very stiff now and cannot be bent over without super cropping which is not something i want to do at this stage. Finally starting to see new obvious pistils. QB wattage raised to 410w Oct 10 - 68 - 1 gallon 6.03PH 702PPM, runoff 6.33PH 284PPM Oct 11 - 69 - 1 gallon 6.10PH 688PPM, runoff 6.19PH 253PPM - see you next week

Oct 12 - 70 - 6.10PH 873PPM, runoff 6.21PH 266PPM - raised nutrition to 7.5 ml/gal, will see how the runoff is this week and raise accordingly Oct 13 - 71 - 6.23PH 783PPM, runoff 6.11PH 274PPM - need to defoliate a final time soon, she's so so bushy and there is a lot of fan leaves underneath not doing anything for her. Been just pushing the leafs down that are covering sites. Oct 14 - 72 - 6.19PH 928PPM, runoff 6.04PH 355PPM - business as usual, still trying to pull at least 5 of the bottom pointless leafs off a day. Runoff is starting to become less and less per feed Oct 15 - 73 - 6.26PH 840PPM, runoff 6.07PH 358PPM - same ol same ol, found a leaf with what looks like a two tone mutation, don't see any other leafs like it. Kinda cool. Smell is getting more pungent when i open the tent Oct 16 - 74 - 6.25PH 780PPM, runoff 6.11PH 456PPM - Gonna try to be a bit more active about pruning leaves a bit over the next week Oct 17 - 75 - 6.34PH 820PPM, runoff 6.11PH 418PPM - still pulling off random fan leafs, trying to open up the inside a bit. Starting to actually see trichome development now. Had to raise lights again to maintain 32 inches as per HLG website suggestion, running out of height soon so will just have to deal with it when that time comes. Oct 18 - 76 - 6.35PH 860PPM, runoff PH PPM - absolutely no runoff at all, need to up amount given - See you next week!

Oct 19 - 77 - forgot to write info down, normal feed, defoliated like 40 leaves but still super bushy Oct 20 - 78 - 6.45PH 671PPM, runoff 6.00PH 634PPM Oct 21 - 79 - 2 gallons 6.3 Ph'd water Oct 22 - 80 - 6.31PH 935PPM, runoff 5.98PH 808PPM - added calmag back, still looking good. Sorry for the different green colors in the pictures, phone camera all i have atm and the colors literally change on every picture. Oct 23 - 81 - 6.41PH 995PPM, runoff 5.98PH 822PPM - pulled a few more leaves to open up the middle a bit again, probably done defoliating even though i would like to do a ton more i think i should stop. Just gonna let whatever happens, happen. Oct 24 - 82 - 6.45PH 932PPM, runoff 5.89PH 705PPM Oct 25 - 83 - 2 gallons 6.45PH water - See you next week!

Oct 26 - 84 - 6.49PH 1.10PPM, runoff 5.90PH 915PPM - raised calmag to 5ml/gal Oct 27 - 85 - 6.49PH 1.14PPM, runoff 5.87PH 806PPM - She sure didn't stretch much, probably because of me constantly pulling leaves but it couldn't be helped. Still looking good so far, could be better with the defoliation a little more intense but this girl felt like everytime i pulled 50 leaves 100 more popped up, still pretty happy though. I'm still tempted to defoliate hardcore one last time for science but don't want her to herm. Again, sorry for the different greens in the pictures, phone is not that great. Oct 28 - 86 - 6.48PH 1.07PPM, runoff 5.81PH 1.15PPM Oct 29 - 87 - 6.48PH 1.10PPM, runoff 5.80PH 1.31PPM - seeing some small deficiency on some leafs, lighter color along the edges will need to lookup and see what it is. Gonna water only next couple days Oct 30 - 88 - 7.17PH pure water - said screw it and defoliated a ton again, way too many sites was getting blocked by fan leafs and air flow was not as good as i want, the interior is CRAZY packed with bud sites and just LEAVES, leaves everywhere! I can't escape them LOL. I can't believe how many leaves this plant replaces when i pull them! Hope this doesn't stress her too much but we will see! - switched cameras Oct 31 - 89 - 2 gallons 6.8PH water, runoff 5.74PH 1.14PPM - gonna run a few gallons through because the ph keeps dropping and PPMs was getting a bit too much for my liking, will do one more day of water then lower A+B back down to 5ml/gal and see how she does

Nov 2 - 91 - 6.57PH 965PPM, runoff 5.80PH 780PPM - little bit of tip burn but i ran 3 days of water through her and got PPMs down to the 500s and lowering A+B to 5ml for this week to be on the safe side, should be okay from here on out. The HLG r-spec is at full power now pulling 480w from the wall. The smell is super sweet it's hard to put a finger on what it actually smells like. Nov 3 - 92 - 6.52PH 595PPM, runoff 5.85PH 780PPM - Just A+B today, gonna go a little easy on her this week since i hammered her a for awhile with high PPMs that tanked the PH and made the runoff PPM skyrocket which burned the tips a tiny bit. Seriously though, the smell is amazing every time i open the 5x5. I've had to stop myself from just opening the tent to smell and just look at her lol Nov 4 - 93 - 6.58PH Water, runoff 5.68PH 890PPM - tent smells like cotton candy today, PH still dropping, should of went hard on the watering which i will do this week since i'm a derp Nov 5 - 94 - 6.56PH water, runoff 5.90PH 400PPM - ph is slowly going back up, will do another water tonight then back to light feed and increase to 2 gallons a day since im not getting enough runoff with the same nutes split (2.5ml/gal), tent still smells like cotton candy. Nov 6 - 95 - AM: 6.54PH 590PPM, runoff 5.96PH 403PPM PM: 6.54PH 574PPM, runoff 6.04PH 410PPM Nov 7 - 96 - AM: 6.58PH 572PPM, runoff 6.07PH 445PPM PM: 6.56PH 630PPM, runoff 6.07PH 458PPM - See you next week!

Starting to fatten up a bit and has a skunky citrus smell. Probably another 2-3 weeks to go, there is still a ton of clear trichomes . This HLG r-spec is doing work she is so frosty. Starting to see a little amber on upper part of plant and still some clear, i figure finish off this week and then a week to 10 days of flush and she'll be good to go. Week 18. Harvest

Happy Harvest Day!

Really great strain. Thank you Dinafem Has a pretty intense buzz that last quite longer than most strains i've tried. I tried a nice sized backwood and it was a pretty euphoric evening experience. She didn't produce massive colas like the other plants i've seen here more than likely due to my own mistakes but she still really put out a ton of dense nugs. She smells like a fresh cut lemon and it's hard to explain the taste since the cure is very early but it's kinda like slight citricy incense? taste Extreme dry mouth is my only complaint, felt like no matter what i sipped on i couldn't escape it.

I had a lot of stuff coming up and had to chop her about a week early (harvested on dec. 10) but that's okay, she was around 8%ish amber mostly cloudy. This was a pretty fun grow and she put up with my many mistakes. I don't have a scale at this time but i got 9 1 quart mason jars and 3 bags of trim/larf/small buds that will be put towards butter, and some finger hash (which tastes AMAZING btw, wow) I am extremely happy overall with this strain. Looking forward to future grows

Looking good 💪👌 Time for those nugs to fatten up. Keep your room temp low and it will reward you with dense nugs bro 🙏👊

Damn fine grow so far!! I grew out a moby a few months back and holy crap did she make tons of leaves. I defoil 15 leaves and she grew back 45 in defiance 😆. Glad to see another HLG grow get some love. I just put to qb288 rspec in my 4x2 and cant wait to finish. Great job and cant wait to read your harvest entry.

Great plant! Moby dick is a great strain too... maybe the best out there for effect. IMO. You've left them to dry with leafs? tell me how that proceed...
Decompress
Decompresscommented5 years ago
@Psilocubensis, yes i left some leafs on because i was worried i could not keep humidity up during hang drying and they would dry out too fast so i left like 40% to help with that and make trimming a little easier when dry since wet trim is a pain for me. It all worked out in the end and she dried pretty slowly i could of went another 1-2 days hanging which i honestly should of did

Awesome grow, very informative!!! 1) Did you manage to eventually weigh your harvest? 2) I've seen people let their plants dry out (yellowish leaves) in the soil after the flowering stage is finished. Just before cutting it to dry. Is this something you recommend, why (not) ?
