Germination took a little longer then I expected. However, the seedling caught up to my other plant within a couple of days. I've been leaving this on the windowsill for most days but place under a grow light when the plant begins to bend too much. I've overwatered a couple of days ago and decided to stop watering it until soil looks dry. Physically, it does feel damp but I'd rather wait for it to dry out before watering again.

Grow Questions

I've got some handymen coming over to fix things around my apartment in a couple of weeks time. The closet lights I ordered won't arrive until after they've gone. I was wondering, how long can I leave the plant without light? Ideally, they'll be without it for at least 36 hours.

36 hours without light will be too long. It will stretch and cause problems. If you can get a cheap bulb to hide it somewhere then that would be a lot better. I start my seedlings on a 23w cfl daylight bulb. You can get a 4 pack for like $10 at home improvement stores. I will post a link below to the lights I use. Hope that helps

This week started great but went down hill fast in the last 24 hours. Basically the seedling was doing fine on the window until this morning when I noticed the leaves were falling over. On closer inspection I noticed that the stem had been damaged. It's such a let down but I've propped it up with a pencil. Over the next couple of days I'm expecting it to die. In the meantime I'll keep watering it. The sister plant, a cream cookies strain, will have to take its place in the closet. Most of this week I've been preparing a grow bucket. I still need to wire it but that shouldn't take long. Need to find my soldering iron and it should be all good. I'm completely devastated by the damage. This plant looked like it would have been my first to make it to the flowering stage. I've made a lot of mistakes in the past and honestly it hurts every time I mess up I feel like it's another set back. I get that I learn from my mistakes but I can't figure out how this one got damaged.

So after writing last weeks post, I didn't want to smother this one so I overwatered it and took a trip up north. Completely shocked when I came back to find it surviving. The damage while still there is healing. Ironically I accidentally learned how to do High-Stress Training through this ordeal. This week has been uneventful, besides the lessons I learnt in growing. When I was told that this one loves nutes, I wasn't sure what to think. I've been worried that I might overfeed it but instead, it seems to be loving it. The leaves are healthy, it has a very mild smell and is starting to stand on its own. Well, that last one might have nothing to do with the nutes but I feel like they might have helped. As for watering, that's been an interesting turn. So far this plant has been overwatered at least once a week, then spritzed with water until the following overwatering. I'm debating if I should keep doing this or attempt to regulate the waterings. I feel the later would be better for me to learn as a grower. For now, I'm just going to go with the flow. This week the plant has only been under the lights in my closet for about 3 hours. Thanks, GreenMachine for the advice and helping me out with it. Still, need to finish adding the fans to the closet. I've found the work tedious and would rather avoid it. However, based on how this has been doing so far I might not even put it in the closet. I'm still going to finish the build since it's was since I already bought the equipment. It's really more of a question on if at this point. The one thing I dreaded the most was that this week was going to be the week it needed to be repotted. While I know that I will need to re-pot this one again in a couple of weeks into the final pot, this week was about getting my confidence up about it. Not sure how using an empty beer cup will affect this but I didn't have space for the big pot. Next week I'm going to start flushing in preparations for the new nutes. Also might as well start LST then to save myself some time. It's clearly getting ready to blow out like crazy, the real question is 'am I ready?'

So this week has been a late update. Simply due to work-related matters. After doing some research I found out the nutrients I'm using are completely wrong for weed. That doesn't matter since my new nutes are arriving in a couple of days. The plant wasn't too happy with the flush but it needed to be done. They will be on the new formula as soon as they arrive. I don't want to change the pot but I"m going to since the soil is way too wet. This plant will no longer be going in the closet but staying on my windowsill, This is a decision that I've been grappling with for the past week. It came down to changing this into a bonsai style grow or a full grow in the closet, seeing as it wasn't growing as fast I decided to go with the bonsai style. Learning to adapt is key in nature, this plant has made me learn that lesson the hard way. I was expecting a real full-sized plant, instead, I'm getting something that I don't want. Moving forward I'm going to treat it like I would if it was fully grown. That means as soon as it's repotted it's going to start LST. The pistils (nodes) have began to appear in the lowest leaves and I'm going to take full advantage.

Was lazy with this and should have paid more attention. I’ve began to notice that I kind of suck at growing but glad I got the experience to know what to do different moving forward.
