The next best thing from growing the original cut must be growing seeds from original cuts creator, the Capulator. Praying that the Banana version has a terp profile that reminds me of the original. Happy growing all.
AUG 16. S 2 The beans popped yesterday. More light than usual has been placed over them and I have located fixture closer to the seedlings this run at a distance of 6" under T5HO. In the past, they have stretched too much too early on. Hopefully not this time.
Using wet paper towel technique. All seeds popped. Most within 24hrs.
Joining this run with Banana Mac is Lemon Sugar Kush by Rebel Grown. An award winner. Tasted her in Santa Rosa last year. Beautiful nose with a pepper spice reminiscent of the best syrah's. I hope I can replicate this. Lemon Larry is one of her parents. If you read my recent Grow diary you would know I lost Lemon Larry earlier to russet mites. That clone came from Wonderland and therefore was probably closely related to the Lemon Larry parents of the Rebel Grown cut.
I kept the seedlings shorter this run by adding more light.
Roots were looking strong. Added mycos and azomite during the transplant.
Need to stall this grow for 10 weeks while I wait for the current run to finish up. I am going to flower this lot in the closet, pull the males and reveg. the fems. That should do it.
Happy growing.
Growmates,
The Mac's took off this week. They are impressive seedlings and noticeably faster growing than the other strains.
I am going to run out of space too soon at this rate.
Happy growing all.
Grow mates,
Overall, these Mac hybrids are the most vigorous of the clan. I haven't experienced such growth this early on with other seedlings before.
I'll need to adjust my garden plan.
Happy growing all.
Grow mates.
The Macs are stressed. Their growth has slowed. They need to be repotted but I have switched to 12 12 instead.
I'll repot when I know if I am keeping them or not after they show sex. This time next week at the earliest. We'll see.
Happy growing all.
Sexed and topped the fems. Pollenating the males in the window. Only the Chernobyls and 1 Lemon sugar Kush were potted into Coco /Bu's blend mix. They look healthy. All the other ladies in Coco/Perlite suffered from Mag defiencies.
Potted all to 1 gal and organic mix, topped again. Waiting for the rebound. 7 weeks before they get to the flower room. Need to slow them down. All plants showing great vigor. MAC probably has the edge as it branches more rapidly than the rest. MIM is a beast. She's thick and fast growing.
Happy growing all.
New growth is post-transplant growth and after I switched plants to the organic soil mix. This new growth is greener than the previous mix and relatively free of Mag deficiency. Old stressed growth as evidenced by red petioles is the stage when the plants were growing in Coco perlite mix.
6 Weeks to go. Lots of chopping will be required to keep them contained. Wishing for an extra 1000 sq ft or so. ;-)
Time to clean up the girls and eliminate some of that random growth. I am fighting what remains of the Russet mites with regular doses of Smite. every 3 days.
So far so good. One of the Lemon Sugar Kush's has a mag deficiency. Hopefully that an not the early signs of an infestation. She looks too healthy for that but Russets are deceptive bastards.
4-5 weeks out before transfer. I am enjoying my current grow but this one should be a treat.
Cheers all.
Bringing the girls out of hiding. They have been holed up waiting for the last harvest to be complete, and here they are. A bit worse for wear but I'll bring them up to scratch within a month and then flip to flower. Scrog will be needed here as they are lanky.
Going to try organic again. Lowering the nutes this time around. Last harvests soil will be reused once I pot them up. Bu's blend, perlite and coco is the mix. Amending with Earthshine by Natures Pride biochar. Adding mycos.
Let's see what happens. Quality of the last round was the best yet, buds were dense and calyxes were plentiful but the frost was limited. I ended up harvesting dry 1oz per sq'. Given the roots didn't expand from 1 gal into 3 gal as expected, this is a reasonable result. Got to fix the root issue though.
Happy growing all.
Feeding every 3 days with Earthshine tea. 1 oz per 5 gallons, add bubbler for 6hrs. Also using jordan myco's and roots.
Leaves are looking healthier.
I dropped my light levels too far about 2-3 weeks ago when plants were getting too close to the light bar in the closet veg space.
Some of the plants have tripped to flower stage, even when the lighting schedule is 18hrs on. Not sure how this is going to play out.
I plan on vegging for another 2-3 weeks. We'll see.
Happy growing all.
One thing you can say about Bros GRimm, their breeding is superior. Their lines are stable. No so for Rebel Grown, nor Herban.
Lemon sugar Kush. 3 plants, 3 phenotypes, Mimosa/ Cherry pie. 2 plants 2 phenos. (to be expected) Mac 1. 3 plants, 1 pheno.
Therefore scrog. No way around this.
Replanted up to 3 gals. Mac 1 showing some stress in one of the plants. Too much nitrogen and a mag deficiency. I hope the new medium which is recycled will suit her needs more. We'll see. Feeding with Earthshine tea. I oz per 5 gallons. All plants are healthy although erring on the side of too much nitrogen. Lets see what effect transplanting has.
Will scrog next weekend. The girls should have settled in by then. Leaving off the Floraflex for now. Perimeter watering to ensure roots spread into new medium and larger pot.
Happy growing all.
Grow mates:
My light cycle is 16/8.not 18/6. This was not intentional but I am interested to see how this plays out so haven't adjusted light upwards. Going into flower soon anyway.
The results of the transplant are just starting to show. The newer leaves are lighter I believe, because they were too dark earlier with the Mac's showing their preference for a leaner lower nitrogen soil and more magnesium. Dosed the garden with a high ppm of epsom salts mixed in with the tea. Never tried that before. Didn't want to add more nitrogen via Cal Mag. so opted for the Mag sulphate.
I have work to do on the canopy. Going to use bamboo and scrog the lanky phenos.
This has been a week of notable smells. Lemon sugar kush stem rub is strong and floral. not at all typical. Rebel Grown won an emerald cup with this strain and reason I spent more for this packet of beans. Needless to say, I am keeping an eye on her.
The Macs haven't hit their stride yet but growth has sped up. I am not flipping until they are in top form.
happy growing all.
Stripped and scrogged. Removed all the fan leaves. The recovery has been quick. I continue to add Mycos and Epsom salts. The leaf condition is improving. Macs have lightened up considerably. Something is working. Delaying flower flip for another week or two. I plan to continue feeding earthshine tea, MgSO4, and Myco's. ppm about 300.
Flipping to flower. The elusive Mac smell is back. It has been wafting in and out at various stages of growth. Not sure what makes it kick in but this is a wonderful smokey floral smell very similar to how I remember it from the original Mac 1 clones given to me by the Wonderland guys. This bodes well. I wouldn't expect plants at this stage would smell anything other than vegetative but the Mac's are different.
Dosed the girls with a round of Natures Pride Flower finisher. 1 tbs per gallon of water. These nutes are soluble and immediately available. Girls perked up right away and off into flower we go.
One thing about the 16/8 schedule, lots of pre-flowers and all leaves already have single leaflets. I assume the grow is still worthy. It's certainly bushy. We'll see.
After a few weeks, I'll strip the leaves again and tidy up the canopy.
The plants I scrogged, particularly the Mac's are still showing stress, the others, not.
Re clones. I followed Medcropper's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-r1Ol9J69iY method of cloning and with great success. No need for plugs, rapid rooters or whatever. Simply tightly pack coco into trays, water with v.light nutes and ph corrected water and place under dome. Root growth is phenomenal. 100% success. The key point, make the hole for the stem small for a tight fit and use Clonex gel. Loving this technique.
Happy growing all.
Growmates, Stripped them all again. Too many leaves. All the ladies have been monster cropped. This was not intentional but was unavoidable I guess given the circumstances.
Why the reveg? Not sure what the answer is because my lighting has been consistent throughout and confirmed by the light meter. I maintained the same DLI when switching from 16/8 to 12/12. Still triggered the revegging process.
Not sure how this run is going to turn out. A lot of buds no doubt. Probably all quite small. The roots are in pretty good shape. More extensive than last run. I expect the garden to attain composure again in a week or two. ;-) lets see.
Out of control grow. Almost gave her the chop.
Stripped twice. Monster cropping requires a lot of work. The plants were producing too much veg material and needed to be aggressively cut back to allow the structure to emerge. They have suffered but I'll get something out of this.
The surprise so far has been lemon sugar kush, the lemon terpenes are overwhelming. Love it. Mac smell is fruity also, kind of a like a banana. The sweetness is softer, the buds smell a little funky in an interesting way.
Right now thinking I run LSK and Mac again.
Happy growing all.
Garden is at the fun stage. Lots of sticky fingers and aroma therapy taking place. Chernobyl has a classic floral smell that reminds me of new car upholstery. I like it but I have grown this smell before. Trying to recall which strain it was typical of. A haze hybrid of some kind. Chernobyl is vigorous as fuck and very stable. She has grown well through a lot of sub par conditions. The nicest smell in the garden is the Lemon Sugar Kush. She has a very powerful lemon scent and the most frosting. So overwhelming, you can't smell much of anything afterwards. The Banana Mac's smell is soft and fruity with a hint of cookies. I can imagine crossing her with LSK. Mimosa's smell is earthy, surprisingly. 5 weeks to go so a lot of evolving to do.
For a substandard grow, I think we'll get a decent product. Think I'll go mostly coco next run. A better set up for an automatic watering Floraflex system. Watering 16oz per day per plant. I think its too much but the moisture meter indicates otherwise.
Compared to the last organic grow, this one is about a week behind, perhaps more. My soil is definitely fucked up. I'll try recharging it and leaving it to cook for a while once this run is done. Then reintroduce a handful at a time. I like the idea of organics but my skill level is not there yet. Its another animal.
Happy growing all.
I can't keep my fingers out of the garden. I could never be a commercial grower. Faint cookie nose on the MAC 1, and a soft fruit smell. She is the most sensitive plant, not faring well with this soil mix. Still getting results because of genetics. Will aim to find her more optimal conditions next round. Lemon Sugar Kush, pungent and lemony. She is a Lemon Larry OG cross. I had the clone but she was one of the ones that didn't make it after russet infestation. Chernobyl is the beast. A most resilient plant and lovely nugget shaped buds and very pungent terps. I would keep her in rotation but she is not a new smell for me and I don't want to grow her again.
Mimosa/cherry cookies, has a distinctive earthy kush smell, nice cookie fruit. The smells evolve. Happy with the selection. Lots of variety. Looking forward to the finish.
Garden is redolent. Terp profiles are evolving. Lemon sugar kush and Chernobyl get props for the intensity of the gas. Literally so strong it feels like my nose hairs are going to be burnt off. Mac's nose is still softer and more nuanced cookie type smell.
Garden is at a critical stage. Going to find out if I can make anything from this sub-par run. Some signs are promising. The Mac buds are starting to open up and foxtail. This is one sticky girl. No amber to be seen yet though.
Mimosa/Cherry cookies: Buds are compacting and swelling. Nice nose. Earthy sweet cookies.
Chernobyl: What a stellar clone. Similar smell to the Bros Grimm Killer queen. Cindy99 is common to both, but Cindy's fragrance is nowhere as cloying.
No sign of amber yet. Harvest window opens next week but the calyx swell is only just starting. 3 more weeks is my guess. Let's see. Happy growing all.
Great genetics playing a role in the success of this grow. If you could call it that. My organic soil mix was way off base. The plants show it. They have been stressed most of the grow. The leaves tell the story. They are too dark and lacking vigor. Buds didn't swell maximally. They still performed, however, not optimally but the vape effects speak for themselves. Happy to get a result I don't have to be bummed about. I am getting the intensity of effects I am looking for but not with optimally healthy plants.
I am going back to coco next round. Back to what I know. My organic growing aspirations need to be tempered with a better understanding.
I have upped my lighting levels in the veg room. No more re-vegging for the next round.
Next round is: Mac, Mimosa/Cherry cookies, Blood diamond Kush. Clones have been taken from the mums and they should be ready to transfer to cups in a week.
Happy growing all.
