On 8/18, placed two seeds in a sealed container of water for about 16 hours. Seeds began to split and a very small tap root was visible. Dumped water with seeds into a paper towel, covered and placed back into a dark cabinet. Next morning, roughly 8 hours later, there was little additional root development. Dropped each seed into starter pods on 8/19. 8/21 the seedlings are starting to show themselves. 8/22 seedlings breached ground and starting to take off, declaring this day 1. After day 2, seed #1 has notably thinner leaves than seed #2.

Grnheadstarted grow question 5 years ago
Testing out my grow box and it’s running at temps from 85-89 degrees. Will this hurt the plants in a hydro setup? I haven’t checked water temps yet. Any advice would be much appreciated. I have the Supercloset Superbox setup with SuperPonics 8.

Hi @Grnhead05! Indeed, temperature is a crucial factor when it comes to hydroponic systems. On the one hand, high temperatures will negatively affect the aeration of the nutrient solution, the plant will be more susceptible to suffer from root pathogen attacks. On the other hand, a too cold environment will affect nutrient absorbtion, increasing the risk of deficiencies and/or "seedling melting". If you cannot get the environment temperatures down (below 24°C - 75°F) then you must cool down the water directly, using a water cooler, they can be pretty expensive but it's 100% mandatory if your water temps remain above 20°C / 68°F. Hope this will help, let me know in the comments section if you need further information. Happy growing! 👊

In the 3rd photo in week 12 there is spotting on the leaves. Does anyone have an idea of what that is from? A deficiency? I had trouble getting the nutrients right and that showed up first after I flushed for a few days.

@Grnhead05 Hi there lovely buds you have there, Yes could be a calcium deficiency however Your plants are nearing maturity so expect the leaves to gradually Lose colour and fade especially if your planning on lowering the ppm as it matures. I noticed in my hydro grows that the plants likes the ph to be at around 6 during the last few weeks of flowering dunno why but its what they seem to prefer

Great diary! Definitely enter in the Newbie contest when you harvest! Those Aerogarden starters from W1 seem crazy nice, something I'll have to look into for the future. Are they part of a full hydro system or just used for starting seedlings for any kind of grow? Good growing and best of luck with the rest of your grow 🙌

@ThrashedTV_BakedByGlaze, thank you for the comment and wishes! I think the AeroGarden is generally intended for smaller herbs like basil etc and it is a stand alone unit. But it did work really well for the seed starting.

FIM went well for one of the plants, I have decided to get rid of the less productive plant (seed 1). I have started training as of late week 2/early week 3 and the plant is ready to branch in many different directions. Check out the photos and let me know what you think! I welcome all constructive feedback!

New plan, FIM->LST->ScrOG. I think I'm just excited to get the show on the road and my original plan of taking 6 clones from the 2 plants and then SOG would have taken longer. I just moved the ladies into their forever home on 9/1. The next morning they looked very healthy and had 3 clear nodes so I pinched the tops in FIM fashion. I think it went well but time will tell. I've got the trellis set up so the next week I will be LST'ing. Once I see how many colas will form from the FIM I'll flip them to flower and train while they stretch.

My plan is to pick my favorite between these two plants and clone it for a sea of green. I hope to get 6 clones, but I am not sure if that will require both plants or not. I have a clone chamber with a heat pad to help them root. Once rooted I will move them to my grow box and start flowering right away (after 7+ days of root formation in the chamber). This is my first grow but I like to be ambitious. If I mess it up I have more seeds to experiment with.

put like bro! good work, for the first groove on dwc - good indicators, I also started with dwc and there were similar crops. Realistic data - everything is fair! 👍
