Germinating June 3rd 2017. Got a late start and everyone says I'm too late... that sounds like a challenge to me. OK lets go. I got 3 seeds from a bag of 12 OZ's from a grower I know.. They all came from a strain of Purple #1 clones. most likely hermo's and feminized. I haven't grown outdoors since 1987 when I grew Purple Star #1 from AmDam. Got my first auto when I bought 10 seeds for 25 gilders (about $1.25 each!) they didn't even sell auto's back then it was just dumb luck but we knew it was coming. These 3 are all photo period no auto genes but should be good genetics its up to me to not limit them.

@Newbie_uk, I posted the pics of the rot and what to look for. Read my updated description. The mold itself is whitish but also kind of see through when it dies. The brown stuff is mostly dead plant material. The actual fungus usually kills from near the stalk inside the buds and the death festers outwards. The dead stuff is slimy and you can pull it out without any resistance but you gotta go deeper. I find all the white at the stalk, and anything attached to it, all dead material, and throw it all out until there is nothing but healthy material and then I take another centimeter. You don't want that shite to keep growing while its drying because it will. Then clean everything you touch snippers, gloves etc. with bleach so you don't spread it to you're other plants or parts of the plant. Oh yea I Cut the cola off then take it away from my plants before trimming and cleaning it. I hope you dont have it. Post pics of anything you suspect. If you get that scope its easy to see.

@Newbie_uk,No I didn't really have to chop her whole head off. I could have cut it off below the mold, or even tried to just clean it out and apply a fungicide, but in my experience rot grows fast and infects other parts close by. Don't forget I didn't see any sign of rot that morning. If it was my only plant I may have chopped the top below the mold but for this girl she was so dense it was almost inevitable on the terminal. Remember she hasn't been rained on since she started flowering in august and I couldnt really trim leaves near that area to promote circulation It was the high heat and humidity I should have put fans on them 3 weeks ago

Man I hate this time of year, its so stressful. I take a look at my pics, then check the weather, and I think oh shit I'm not gonna make it again, even though, I know they'll make it, they don't have a choice. The weather will make them finish its just I don't want them to stop. I want them to be fully filled out like perfect little christmas trees. So to take my mind off it I'm working on the next grow. I mentioned I setup a $7 - 50 watt full spectrum LED so I'm making another few. I also ordered 2 mini ultrasonic foggers for $2.58 each. Im going to setup a fogponic grow with 150 real LED watts. Then I'm putting the whole fogponic setup on an old record player (some of you know what that is) geared to a slow speed. Next I'm mounting the lights inline from top to bottom close to the plants and I'm going to rotisserie the plant like a vertical spit roaster. I should be able to get way more wattage into the plants from top to bottom, more like the sun does, without burning it. The sun puts out about 100 watts per sq. foot, but it does that from top to bottom. Every sliver of plant gets basically that same amount of solar radiation. Radiation from lights drops off extremely fast, that's why scrog growers do what they do. But if you look at my plants, and how old they are, you would not get any more yield by doing anything to them other than what mother nature and their genes tells them to do, The shape is partially a function of the radiation pattern I described above, but think about it, these plants and many others have developed their structure over millions of years and they have determined the most efficient shape for their reproduction and its pretty much a christmas tree shape like so many other plants. Plus I like the biggest colas I can grow. So I am going to try and give them more than that 100 watts per sq. ft all the way up and down the plant. I ordered 7 Dutch Passion Auto Extremes to try it out on. My goal is big yield, big buds, and big resin, fast, like most everyone else but I'm not going after colour, more looking for shape and structure and the biggest colas. I'm going with 24/7 light schedule primarily to see how fast I can do this and to keep the plants low, with the rotisserie and fogponic going it could grow tall fast.. I'm also using the auto to keep it small. I've seen some great results from fogging and autos so we'll see what happens. The only thing I worry about is not topping the autos. I have a feeling that topping autos delays flowering little and lets them get bigger before they stretch and bloom but then I would lose the terminal bud so no way. I have to paint the room in the basement and I'm waiting on a few pieces to ship so it'll will be a month before I get going, but should be perfect timing to keep my mind off these girls and let them do their thing. Anyone tried any of these ideas before? Let me know I would love some advice.

@M0J0R1s1ng, it is an airborne cancer. You're right about that one. Just keep both eyes on her. Dont forget to look inside the colas. πŸ‘ŠπŸ˜Ž
M0J0R1s1ng
M0J0R1s1ngcommented7 years ago
@Teamdirtbag2,for sure, I just went over them with the scope. They are much fluffier buds and not as dense as this one. I noticed her terminal stopped growing the last 3 or 4 days. I knew something was up and last night I couldn't even see a sign of it then this evening a fan leaf was falling off and I could see an entire inch of dead material. That shot grow so fast I immediately chopped her head off for the other girls and her side buds. Luckily I caught it fast it was only in one spot but its like a fucking airborne cancer to these poor girls.

Well I had a little more rot on my little girls terminal cola and a side cola from the middle girl that already lost her head. It was minor about 5-10% but I chopped her head off again and cut the top of the other one too. See pics.. But this time I tried to save her. I cleaned out the rot, only one bud, but then I saw a little more below so then I chopped it all under that bud. That was it though. I chopped about half the weight of what that whole bud would have been so most is still growing. Again a little early on the trichs, but not too bad, about 10% amber balls. She is just coated in resin, as she has been shrinking and drying the resin is sheeting together and looks like a covering of crystallized sugar balls all stuck together. I wish I could photo through the scope. I've been smoking my last cola its quite good. Better than the dispensary buds mostly because I preserve the resin well in my dry and cure. Obviously my buds don't have to travel and get banged around. Still a little chlorophyll has to come out but another week and it will be great.

@Newbie_uk,Yea we had 2 wicked storms too. This weekend it blew for about 1/2 an hour but toppled trees all over the city, 3 on my street alone. My neighbours plants are both down, completely toppled over. I don't know if they know what they have. One fell down last weekend. And they never propped it up or harvested it. They have bigger colas than mine. Its driving me crazy I can't stand to see them like that but Im too shy to go talk to them. Ive been taking my kid to school to go by their front, but I never see them. I think today I'm just going to go knock on the door. My wife said they'll think I'm a lunatic.

@M0J0R1s1ng, mines has stopped but had to snip a we bit off today as it had to survive hurricane Ophelia yesterday, Ireland's first hurricane that I can remember lol 50mph winds unfortunately for it I wasn't home for at least 3 hours of it, but can't complain visibly it's not too bad, though I pray they fatten up abit as when trimmed the bit I had cut off it was desperate Fs, hopefully the next 3 weeks help, u think I should feed it just this last week?

You know whats funny is that I didnt think my big girl was going to be anything at all. I only let it grow because it was there. I thought it was a male, it grew strait, tall, perfectly symmetrical, and no branching at all even once she started flowering she was a stick. Then the bud sites just started swelling from top to bottom. Now she is basically a tube of swollen buds, She has more resin than any of her sisters, she grew coated airy fluffly buds, with no rot so far. Her calyxes have swelled huge and the inside trim looks like fuzzy grapes just exploding at every point possible. She likes something about this environment and I'm going to keep her genes going. I will try and clone after harvest. Probably just leave the stalk growing in the pot then take some cuttings after it reveges.

I did a dumb fuck mistake. When I was cleaning the rot out of the cola trying to save the bud I didnt clean the scissors when I later chopped it off and you could see the white mold start at the top of the buds left right where the scissors wiped across the tops of them. So I got a clean pair of snips and chopped the rest of that cola's buds off and I left the 16 trim colas to try and make it another week, So I am down to 2 half plants and one whole. Both of the half plants were about half terminal colas half really nice trim. the smallest one weighed in about 15g's dried should be over a oz for the plant which isnt that good but it was a late starter and only 16" high I didn't really lose any bud though because it had just started on the leaves that I trimmed. I hate this rot shit. I'm really hoping my last one doesn't get any because she's got some seeds growing and I want to start an outdoor strain acclimated to my zone and if she is mold resistant I will use her seeds in my breeding stock. The others are nice but not for breeding.

@Newbie_uk, Yea if you look at my backyard there's powdery mildew growing on my grapes and all over this flowering tree. Rot and mildew are always my biggest concerns outdoors. Indoors I don't have many concerns because I clean a lot. Bugs sometimes but never too bad. Indoors you can keep your environment much more controlled. Outdoor your plants have to have some genetics helping them. The funguses and bacteria are every where. The live on the plants just like the flora and fauna that live on us. They only get bad or out of control when conditions are ripe for it, so the best thing we can do is just not give it the conditions that those things like to flourish in. Dark, damp and stagnant air. Whenever I see a little white or light blue dot on a leaf I grab the whole dot and rip the blade off with it. Always. Never let it get a foothold anywhere

Newbie_ukcommented7 years ago
@M0J0R1s1ng, I get an ounce I'll be happy m8 lol yeah rot seems to be outdoor growers biggest enemy, does it happen much indoors? Wouldn't know we're to start but being able to produce ur own seeds is pretty Fucking awesome and I hope ur big one gives u plenty :)

M0J0R1s1ngcommentedweek 207 years ago
Man still waiting for the resin to ripen up. I had a little powdery mildew show up on the very lowest bud on the first chopped plant. It was only on a few leaves so I always just pluck the blades wherever I see it. FYI for anyone who doesn't see it a lot it starts out as a white or bluish circle like when you culture in medium in a petri dish. Just cut the whole blade off or it will just grow and grow. Looks like the temperatures might hold for another week. The lowest night is going to be 5, but lots of rain starting Tuesday night so I will have to watch close now. If this shit would just get to half amber I will chop. I really want to get some powerful smoke out of this. I've sampled my first chop and its good. The bag appeal isnt great because she was the mini calyx plant and I left a fair bit of green during the trim but cut that out before you smoke and its a real creeper weed. Sneaks up on you about 10 minutes after and lays you out for a good long time and its smooth. The next chop will be ready in a day or two. It will be really cool to see the difference the extra 2 weeks does to the smoke of these 2 plants.

Oh I forgot to mention the cold has really kicked in. See the pics of ice and frost on the roof this morning. Luckily I keep them in the garage cause these last 2 nights could have killed them or at least severely stunted my final surge. Since I have a fan on them the heater doesn't do much but certainly keeps it a few degrees warmer. This week is supposed to warm up and get some sun but nights are going to be very cold. I am ok with harvesting at any time now. The trichs are brown on about 10% but some trichs continue to brown during the beginning of the cure anyway. My flush was late I only got to it yesterday. I want to get at least a week of flush and a week of cold nights just to see what colors these girls have been hiding. They are supposed to be purple but the only sign is streaks down the stalks of a few fans. Most of the trees in my area are still green. The weather went from hot and humid to rainy and freezing in a day. Now its supposed to be clear and cold but sun will warm the days to 19. If the colors don't start by next week I am just going to chop when the resin is mostly brown, probably next week anyway.

It will be cool to see what those satellite buds do with the extra capacity from the stalk now that the main cola is gone. Especially with the cold weather coming. Man I hope she doesn't get any more rot. Its raining all day today and fricken cold, 10 celsius, so I put them in the garage with the $7 LED I made and a broken heater pointed under the bench they're on. I'm trying to keep them as dry as possible now.

Here's a fyi for some. I have kept my outdoor plants dry since August. IE in the garage whenever it rains and at nights. So yesterday I let the plants catch a few drops of rain before i got them in the garage. I run a tiny heater and a fan in the garage mostly to reduce humidity, and it does by about 15%, and raises temps about 3 celsius. The next morning you could see powdery mildew on just about every spot where a rain drop landed. I had to clip about 10 leaves per plant everywhere it started. But I looked closely at the leaves and there is a little dust buildup and they look quite dry. I got a handle on my rot issues mostly with the fan. I should have had it out earlier but I don't think it would have made a difference. Now that nights are cold the rot can't really get going but the mildew wants to go like gangbuster and only needs a little water to get started immediately so keep that in mind if you r in a climate like mine. @Newbie_uk, Yea me too I really like the mini christmas tree shape. No on the training, that's how they grew. You can see 2 pipe cleaners on the big girl to stop a few leave stalks from bashing the tops of a few colas, that's the extent of my training.

@Teamdirtbag2, Thanks dude, I read about your last grow, I've been there before. One year I was literally pulling them out of the snow. a freak snow storm caused early harvest but inside we found bud rot in about half the load. It was a big load too. Outdoors can be such a heartache. This year I planted late on purpose. I wanted small samples that I could really work, just to see how well I could get them to express their genes in this climate. The seeds came from generations of indoor clones all from the same mother, but no idea who the father is but could be hermo.
