For my first ever grow, I have planted two Amnesia CBD Autos and one OG Kush CBD Auto (separate diary) from Dinafem.
Environment:
32"x32"x63" TopoGrow tent
HLG 135W QB - Plan to add a second when needed
AC Infinity Cloudline T6 Fan
5gal fabric pots
70/30 Canna coco and perlite, washed and primed with calmag
Day 0 - Labor Day 2019 - Seeds placed in water to soak for 24 hours. Paper towel between two plates for another 24 hours until tap roots were 3/4in long, then into the coco/perlite in 5 gallon fabric pots.
Day 1 - Seedling starting to poke through the surface. Light spritz of PH 6.0 water.
Day 2 - One spread her wings overnight and has blasted through the coco. Showing her first serrated leaves and is loving life. The other still has not breached the surface. We're not panicking and are staying optimistic!
Day 3 - She popped! Phew. Okay, cool. Continuing to spritz coco with PH 6.0 water for a few more days.
Day 4 - Spritz, spritz, spritz
Day 5 - First real watering. About a shot glass full of PH 5.8.
Day 6 - Same watering as above to keep the coco moist around the roots.
Day 7- Bigger watering with 2ml calmag. First real feeding tomorrow!
Is it time to chop yet?
Okay, I’ve realized daily updates are tedious. Going to switch to a weekly summary-style like a normal person from here on out.
It’s week two, so I’m going to start sending nutes. I’ll be following growweedeasy.com’s Coco nutrient schedule as a guide.
End of week update: Excellent growth this week for these to babies. Noticed a bit of stretching going on so I lowered the light to 20” from 24”. They weren’t drinking too much so I had to restrain myself to avoid overwatering. Only fed nutes 3 times this week with 1 plain PH’d water drink in between.
Poor girls have been drowning because I don’t know what I’m doing. I backed way off the last few days of the week to let the pot dry out more. 5 gal pots take a long time to dry out!
The good news is I think the deficiency that was showing last week is starting to clear up with the new growth. The plants are peeking up and responding well to the nutrients. Going to try my hand at LST next week.
The theme of this week is: Low stress training, high stress deficiency.
Mid-week update: okay, I think I figured out the deficiency. Magnesium. My PH’s have been 6 or under thus far, so I’m assuming that’s what caused the issue. The past couple feedings I added 6ml/gal calmag at 6.5 ph, and the plants almost immediately started looking better. Darker green new growth with no signs of the spotty yellow between veins.
I also think I may have been under-watering. Finding the balance is a lot trickier than I was anticipating!
The girls are getting tall, so on day 23 I tried my hand at some LST. I’m sure I didn’t do it correctly, but we’ll see how the plants respond.
Well, shit. Plant number 1 split on her main stem. After some cussing and flailing, I wrapped her injury in electrical tape and said a prayer to the herb gods. At the end of week 4 she is doing well. I’m noticing no adverse affects at the moment. I unstrapped her LST and will give her a few more days before trying to train her a little more (she’s the tallest in the tent and is going to get out of hand).
Plant 2 is a squatty little thing. LST probably wasn’t necessary, but she seems to be responding well.
Still struggling with watering frequency. It’s not helping that my RH has been super high. Looking into a dehumidifier for the room.
Tough week, but we’re all flowering. My grow room is the utility room in the basement, so, needless to say humidity has become a problem at around 70% regularly. Went out and bought a dehumidifier this week, so we’re down in the 50% range now. It’s also helping with my low ambient temps.
You’ll notice the nitrogen toxicity with plant 2. It’s also affecting my OG Kush CBD plant, but not my other amnesia plant. So, I’ll be cutting micro for a couple of feedings for #2 and the OG.
Been super aggressive with LST this week because the plants are going crazy. Staying really bushy, though, and plant #1 didn’t even seem to notice having her main stem snapped almost completely. Sweet.
Oh, I almost forgot. I bought a second 135w HLG QB so we’ve got plenty of wattage for flowering. Wish us luck!
The over/under-watering struggle continues into week 6. I still have no idea what I am doing. Plant 1 is happy and healthy looking, but plant 2 has just been looking sad. I cut her Micro for plant #2 the past couple of feedings due to the nitrogen toxicity, which is seemingly improving, but the droop persists. I am following growweedeasy's guide to the feel and color of the coco when it needs watered, as well as the weight of the pots, but I still think I am failing there. Oh well, she ain't dead yet!
Did a little more LST and selective leaf tucking this week, but these things are bushy as hell. I think it's time to leave them alone and let them stretch for a few weeks. I wish I had space for a bigger tent, but what can you do.
After a helpful comment from u/B4RNS letting me know I was overwatering, I backed off and let the girls dry for a few days. That was probably a bit too long based on how pale they got, but I am satisfied with how they are looking now after being rehydrated. The plants are perked up and blowing up all over the place now. Not much else to say other than I definitely should have gotten a bigger tent. :)
Week 8 was nuts at work, so other than a quick feeding every other day, the girls didn’t get a ton of attention. The buds are really exploding now, though!
Week 9, feelin fine. Early on in the week, I noticed some fading to lime green on the tops of the plants. The lights were way too close so I raised them up to around 18 inches and at the end of week 9 the color is looking more uniform again.
Feeding the gals every other day seems to be going well at this age. The buds are stacking up and fattening nicely. The LST really paid off as the tent is packed full but the plants have so many tops. I have been doing light defoliation every few days because these things are so damn bushy. I know it’s not advised with autos but due to my lack of space, I feel some is necessary for airflow if nothing else.
It’s getting stinky in here. Not much to report other than I wish I had bought a bigger tent. 😹
After snapping the main stem of plant number one way back in veg, I was wondering how it would look later in life after it repaired itself. Included an updated photo here for reference. I think it effectively topped the plant because she’s got two giant colas in both directions from where the split occurred. Resilient little things, eh?
I think these plants still have at least two weeks. Maybe three. Would love to hear your thoughts!
Midweek update to add photos of the trichomes. Starting to cloud up, but definitely still have a while to go, I’d say! :( How long would you guess?
End of week update: noticing some light stress in the fan leaves so I moved the lights up as high as they will go. The buds are still fattening and pistils are still mostly white. Still a couple more weeks, I reckon.
Midweek trichome update: plant #2 is maturing a little more quickly than plant # 1. Starting to see a touch of amber show up in their most mature buds. The lower growth still has some clear. I want a therapeutic, anti-anxiety medicine, so I think I’ll let them get fairly amber (30%?) before harvest.
Thoughts? What’s your preference on trichome color?
End of week update: Not much change. I am checking the trichs daily with the USB microscope, but haven't seen an increase in amber the past few days. All of my plants are showing signs of light stress (foxtailing and leaves taco-ing upward), so I removed my stacked watering trays to give them more room. This will make my life harder, but hopefully these girls are ready to chop soon. I am getting so impatient and anxious! :)
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Thank you for stopping by.
Beginning of week 13 trichome update: here we goooo! Just since yesterday I am noticing a lot more amber. I’ve read both sides of the “flushing” debate, and I’m choosing to water for about a week with plain PH’d water before chopping.
Hopefully I don’t fuck this all up now after months of hard work! Wish me luck, buds! 😎
Chopped these girls on day 88 from seed. You’ll notice varying stages of trichomes in my harvest. Part of that comes from the different budsites on each plant and the fact that plant 2 was more mature at chop. I did this intentionally so that I could see the effects of trichome maturity myself since this is my first time growing.
I’m absolutely amazed at how much bud I was able to yield. I know they’re going to shrink about 75% as they dry, but my god they are massive.
They’re currently hanging in the tent at around 50-55% RH. After they’re dry and trimmed, they go in jars for the cure. I will circle back here to update you all on my thoughts on the strain.
Thanks for tuning in, y’all!

1-month post-harvest update:
Good news and bad news. The good news is amnesia 1 stole the show. I yielded nearly 3.5oz of quality bud and around .8oz of trim. This plant cured perfectly and smells like heaven. Soooo citrusy and pungent. I thought I had smelled good cannabis in my 15+ years of using it, but I was wrong. This is how cannabis is supposed to smell.
The bad news is amnesia 2 hermied somewhere along the way and left me with considerably less yield (and poorer quality buds, of course). Obviously this was less devastating because Amnesia 1 did so well. I didn’t even notice until I started trimming and found about a dozen seeds. Lesson learned! Don’t stress the plants and pay closer attention during the grow!
The high: so, so good. Exactly what I was hoping for when I bought the seeds. Dinafem really nailed it with this strain. I wanted something medicinal (I don’t enjoy getting thunderfucked) that would reduce my anxiety and help with back pain. That is exactly what I got. The high CBD content shines keeping the buzz very mellow. Don’t get me wrong, I still get quite stoned, it’s just really easy-going and happy. I absolutely love it.
