She's cruising along happily now that her PH/Calcium issues have been addressed. She seems to have stopped stretching and her bud sites are getting a little plumper each day. A little extra Bloom in the bucket with the rez change today, other than right, running the same course of nutes. ----------------- Day 79: PPM 647; PH 6.2. Discovered I forgot to turn the air pump back on after rez change yesterday. Ugh ๐Ÿ˜•Gave her 3/4 gallon of plain filtered water - and turned the pump back on. PPM 574; PH 6.2. Day 80: PPM 574; PH 6.55. Gave her a few drops of PH down - now at 6.2. She's much happier with the air pump turned on - sadly, the leaves that were previously damaged due to the calcium deficiency look much worse now after the air pump incident - not sure if this is cause and effect or whether these damaged leaves were destined to degrade anyway. I'm hoping the next few weeks go more smoothly. Day 81: PPM 574; PH 6.2; Gave her a gallon of filtered water/nutes: PPM 637; PH 6.2. Sitting at PPM 616; PH 6.2. Plucked off a few more leaves that were degrading due to the earlier calcium deficiency. Day 82: PPM 647; PH 6.4. Gave her 1/3 gallon filtered water to level her out: PPM 563; PH 6.3. She's looking like a much happier girl today. Day 83: PPM 574; PH 6.4; Gave her a couple of drops of PH down - she's now at 6.0. Day 84: PPM 574; PH 6.0. Gave her 3/4 gallon filtered water/nutes - holding steady at PPM 574; PH 6.1.

Although she seems to be growing just fine, I'm a bit concerned by the wilted leaf tips. Any thoughts?

2.04 EC is really high for this stage. Most strains do not go over 1.8 EC at peak flowering. Reduce the feeding to half that amount. Notice how dark green is the color of the foliage? That is too much nitrogen (grow nutes) What you are seeing is "the claw", a clear sign of too much nitrogen. Cheers.

You should use the feed charts from GH to see how much you are supposed to feed. You are running too much bloom and calcium. Cal-mag at that rate is extremely high and you will start to see the lockout of other nutrients (potassium, magnesium, manganese and iron). I would get your PPMs/TDS around 500-600 (EC 1.0/1.2). You are over feeding and it is evident by how dark she looks. Also, you can see how she is eating by checking your buckets and seeing if the PPMs are rising or falling. PPMs rising means she is drinking more water and not enough nutrients, increasing the PPMs of the solution = overfeed. PPMs dropping mean the opposite. In hydro less is more ๐Ÿ˜ƒ!!!! here is a feed chart: https://gh.growgh.com/docs/Feedcharts/GH_FloraSeries-REC_03216am.pdf . I would bring the Cal-mag down to 1.5-2.5ml/gal (depending on your water), and the micro, bloom, and grow to 50% recommended dosage, or 5ml/gal micro and grow, and 2.5ml/gal of bloom. The Cal-mag has nitrogen as well, so you should have plenty. Happy growing! ๐Ÿ‘Š

@stunflower, I would do the same. The difference, other than brands, is .1% magnesium and more nitrogen in the sensi cal mag. Botanicare is: N 2.00% Calcium 3.20% Mag 1.20% and Sensi is: N 4.00% , Calcium 3.20% Mag 1.10%. Calcium needs nitrogen to work, that's why all cal-mag products have some nitrogen in them. If you have RO water, then 2-3ml/gal, if tap/well then less, 1-2.5ml/gal. The best advice is watch how your plant reacts to the change.... if you start to see a calcium deficiency, which you definitely shouldn't, then increase accordingly. You will probably have to increase the calcium in flowering, but veg and early flower you should be ok with much less. Don't hesitate to ask questions if you have some.. we are here to help each other out! ๐Ÿ‘

Nice harvest mate ๐Ÿ‘ I doubt hollow stems equal a calcium def though... A hollow stem is actually advantageous. It means the plant uses less mass to grow tall. And a hollow stem is actually stronger and less prone to bending vs a normal stem. Think about how strong bamboo is ๐Ÿ˜Š

@stunflower, unfortunately the internet is full of broscience... hollow stems might actually be because of a deficiency of some sort, but that is mainly because most breeders try to produce strains with vigorous growth. So itโ€™s just a byproduct of our ladies growing as fast and as tall as possible. If you ever need any info/help go on Cocoforcannabis.com. Some really experienced growers growing in all sorts of mediums. And it has a chat room. I found it a few months ago, never looked back ๐Ÿ‘

@NuggetPawn, Dang. Thatโ€™s good to know. I had read that hollow stems were symptomatic of calcium deficiency. Happy to know itโ€™s a plus.

@MrGreenFingers, Yes, that will be a challenge because the first taste was so surprisingly nice. I've come this far though - I'll try to hold on. In the meantime, I'm keen to get my magic butter machine going with some of the nice trim and popcorn buds I collected. ๐Ÿ‘

StunFlowercommented5 years ago
@Wicked_Stix, Thank you so much! I am frankly surprised how stout both plants I have going are compared to my first growing attempt earlier this year. I'm thinking the more powerful air pump I've added to aerate the water has made the biggest difference this time around. I hope I can keep things manageable through the stretch in my limited grow space. ๐Ÿคž
