*OPENING COMMENT* This is my 3rd round. Started week 2 yesterday. Strain also known as Argyle by Tweed. Purchased 4 seeds from albertacannabis.org in February at a total cost of $73.45. Started germination of seeds on October 14th by soaking in glass of water (in the dark) for 24 hours. Then moved to paper towel method (still in the dark) with heating pad on low for warmth on October 15th. All popped, all sprouted. Once tap roots were about 1 - 1.25cm long, (October 17th / 18th) I planted them into straight ProMix in plastic party cups. Cups placed inside a custom made tent with 2 thermometers and 1 hygrometer. Have been spraying the inside of the tent to keep the humidity up (Brita Filtered Water). Started by lightly spraying the soil, then the same for the seedlings. Tent is made with standard 2x4 wood and poly and measures 51" long x 36" deep x 26" tall (interior dimensions). Tent lights are 2 Innova LED Shoplights; 5200 Lumens each (dissipated by the poly) for a total of 10,400 Lumens. Actual wattage is 50W per fixture, so total of 100W. Spectrum is 5,000k and CRI is 80. I open the tent for spraying and air exchange several times a day. *Accidentally deleted this WEEK, so re-posting*

So after moving the seedlings closer to the light, the over-stretching has stopped. The stems are getting some color in them and are strengthening. Increased temp to 24C and lowered humidity from 65% to 60%. No other changes to report. Seedlings progressing as expected. One of them ( obvious from the above pics ) is either weak / slow or has a mutation to it. Looks different from the others; having thinner leaves, but is also the shortest so may just be a little behind. Hopefully it will widen up.

End of week 3. One still lagging behind ( slow ass ), one doing ok, the other two are doing good. Started watering with about 100ml filtered water per plant when needed. Still spraying tent to keep humidity up. No other changes to report. I expect that I will move plants from party cups to larger pots by my next update. I always try to go with zero nutrients, but I may give a small dose of CalMag this coming week.

Have transplanted them into 5 litre pots. New soil ratio is 3 parts ProMix HP with Mycorrhizae, 2 parts Sea Soil, 0.5 parts worm castings. No lime. Watered only the outer rim of the pots to encourage root stretch. There was good root growth on all of them despite the obvious difference in actual size of each plant. Excellent growth on A and D after topping. I am hoping that I can top B and C soon. C has begun to green up, so she was spared the planned dose of CalMag. Zero nutrients so far. No other changes to report.

Excellent growth after the topping on A and D. Was able to top B and C, hasn't quite kicked in yet. Still zero nutrients. Sorry, no mid-week pics this week. Will be moving them from the tent to the Veg room soon. LST might start this coming week, but I am guessing they will need a little more time. Added one 13.5 watt Philips Red LED Bulb; bringing total watts for lighting up to 113.5. Plan to add a second, possibly second and third red LED this coming week. Still watering on the outer rim to encourage root stretch. No other changes to report. 👽

Posting this update one day early. Have moved the 4 plants from the tent to the Veg room. Placed pots on top of silver serving trays from the dollar store for a little insulation from the floor, drain catch, and added reflectivity. Lighting wattage remains the same with exception of 2 additional (total of 3 now) 13.5 watt Philips Red LED Bulbs; bringing total watts for lighting up to 140.5. Even though the same two 50 watt LED shop lights are being used, the lux is certain to have increased as they are no longer obscured by the tent poly. One 16 inch, 50 watt oscillating circulation fan running 24/7 on low setting. One standard bathroom style exhaust fan runs once per 2 hours for 15 minutes. Still zero nutrients, zero PH testing. Results from earliest toppings starting to take shape, and the stems are thickening up. Topping continues at every available point. The tallest plant; "D" would have more height by this time, but have started LST (on all four plants) by gently bending the top 4 - 6 branches downwards. I have included a Week 1 through Week 7 lapse photo of "D". Nothing further to report this week. 👽

I would like to Over-Veg one of my girls into a MONSTER. I require advice on how best to grow her big with thick stalks. Should I use a deep pot or a wide pot (child's pool) and is there any recommendations as to which nutrients will help her grow into a massive bitch?

Hello Dubb79, your girls are looking good. I understand your question and i do got the answer for you. I already saw a fellow grower had a good start with recommending a 10 gallon pot, to my opinion thats the max size but its the right one if you want to go big. You need the space you want in buts above the ground also in roots in the ground. Also i strongly recommend you start using silica so you get bigger stems and stronger in any wau possible. Usually u mix it in before adding nutes to your feeding water. I see you already topped them thats very good. You may want to give your girls much stronger lighting and train them by opening them up as much as you can so the light can penetrate to every budside. Try to keep the canopy on an even level and remove the lower canopy that gets less or no light at all. Also you defenitly need good nutrients to back it all up and the perfect enviremental stats. Indoor you need a fan airco, humid and dehumifier that al work perfect. That should do the trick i think. You also need to daily check on your girl to see if shes ok and need some attention in any way. In week 3 of flower its mostly good to do an heavy defoliation. I hope this was an helpfull answer to you my friend. Keep on growing, Peace 👍🏾

Plants are starting to bulk up and fill in more. Results from most recent toppings are beginning to take affect. I likely will not top any further before going 12s. LST continues and I have begun some mild HST. I plan to add more lighting and bring the temperature up some to simulate a "mid summer" environment for a couple of weeks. I will then reduce the lighting and temperature to simulate a "late summer" environment. I was hoping for more growth at this point so I could transplant them once more before flowering, but I am not sure they will get there in time. If not, I may have to veg these girls for another 4 - 6 weeks depending on vertical progress. No signs of pests or mould (neither of which I have ever had). Still zero nutrients, zero PH testing. No other changes to report. 👽

Growth continues at expected pace. Increased lighting to be added this coming week. Will begin to tie down branches this coming week. I expect to transplant into 12L pots in the next day or so. Hopefully the transplant will encourage better vertical growth. Will likely begin feeding with silica after the transplant and tie down. Still zero nutrients, zero PH testing. Going to wait another week or so before I transplant but I can't put it off much longer. Began to tie them down and they have responded very well. I always use elastics as they are easy on the stems, have some give to them and I can easily wrap them tighter as the branches acclimate to the bend. Hardly any stress and the leaves and branches turned upwards within a couple of hours. It's sometimes hard to believe that they are all the same strain. Phenotype differences are more and more obvious the older they get (seemingly more so than other strains I am familiar with). I'm glad I topped them as much as I did, when I did. Not sure yet which one I want to let grow into a monster. Likely "D" or "A". Still zero nutrients, zero PH testing. Have not added any additional lighting yet. Height reduced due to the tie down. Humidity increased intentionally, but temperature reduced as we've had a cold spell and I don't want to use the heater unless absolutely necessary. No other changes to report. 👽

I have begun to give some nutrients. 5ml per 4L each of Emerald Harvest Grow, Grotek Pro Silicate, ProMix Root Booster and Sensi CalMag Xtra (pics of nutrients included this week). They have responded remarkably well. I will be keeping a very close eye on any signs of nutrient burn. I always try to stay organic but decided these ones needed a push. Still zero PH testing. Still planning to transplant soon. Will likely remain in Veg for 2 - 3 more weeks. I am in no rush. Added a 100W / 10,000 lumen cylindrical fixture. Hoping that will be enough to simulate "mid summer" conditions. I would like to note; all pictures of plants are taken while plant is moved away from main light source. No other changes to report. 👽

If humans took weed to grow on another planet where the sun was up for 28 hours and down for 10 hours, how well would it grow? Would the plants adapt to the different light / dark times? Or maybe 24 of hours light, 6 hours of dark? Theories? Earthly Proof? Comments? 👽

Just like many cannabis genetic manipulation, this would probably take a crap ton of time, but I don't see why it couldn't be possible to acclimate cannabis to new environments with different light cycles. Again, it just may take awhile to do, lol. If you were able to create a single landrace strain in a different cycle, it could be used to breed into "normal" strains repeatedly until they start to blend characteristics...this is all theory... And now you have my wheels spinning. I personally think the 28/10 might work because it's a long enough night cycle to induce flower whereas the 24/6 may not (photo period plants). I just don't know how it would grow, but would be worth an experimental go. I have some genetics I personally don't need/want and could take one, throw it in my 2x2x3 and see what happens. Would have to do it after this current grow, just to keep it legal though. Don't feel like a knock on my door, even if it is just one additional plant. Anyways, neat thought experiment. Ill Google around and if I see someone doing this I'll catch you in PM with the link. Have a good day my Canadian fellow. Cheers

1st week of Flower is complete!! Finally transplanted into larger containers ( on day 1 of Flower ). Will continue with current nutrients for at least 1 more week ( minus Silica ), then I will switch to flowering nutrients. Still zero PH testing. Bringing down the humidity gradually. Noticeable start to the stretch observed. Have paused the LST for now, and will likely not employ any further HST.

Final week of flowering has been completed (13 weeks veg and 10 weeks flower). Have begun to harvest. Very sticky with mostly medium-sized, medium-tight buds (except colas). All scraggly and small buds will be weighed separately. Overall I think these 4 Arygle have done well. Very easy to grow with minimal supervision. Grown completely under LED, with no flowering nutrients and zero PH testing throughout their lives. Will update with quantity and quality after curing. 👽

Overall a good experience. I would rate the buds as medium tight, highly resinous, decent smell. I experienced health setbacks during the grow so they did not receive all the love they deserved. Still turned out decent for one of the only 2 legal strains in Alberta. Good amount of trim for concentrates. Did not cure the buds completely for quality taste and smell as they will likely end up in the oil bucket. I had hoped they would grow taller than they did, but did not expect them to. Flowering lights same as veg lights; 50W x2 LED shop lights plus 3 13.5W GE Red Bulbs. 👽

I think that the seedlings are stretching too much towards your light. I'm using a DIY 100W LED as well, but I keep it at ~20-25cm distance from the top leaf of the seedlings. I wish you good luck 😁🌱
Dubb79
Dubb79commented5 years ago
@BlueBerry7720, Could be genetics. First time growing this strain so all is new to me with these ones. They for sure seem more stretched than the previous seedlings (different strain). In a week or so I will have a better idea since I have moved them closer to the lights. I guess even then who's to say if it is environment or genetics. 👽

BlueBerry7720commented5 years ago
@Dubb79, I wonder if the germination stretch is genetics. First time grower so I'm just speculating, but mine did the same thing. When they started making new nodes they were super tight. No change in light from germination to the first few weeks of veg.

@Dubb79 Sounds wonderful. 😁 I'm on a really tight budget so I'll use the 100w LED for all the life cycle of my plants, I still hope to achieve at least 150-200g of buds ahah

@BlueBerry7720, Thanks eh! I think I like to veg longer than most other growers. Of course it depends on the plant / strain. A loose guess right now would be to "Go 12's" (copyright, patent pending 😋 ) at 10 - 12 weeks.
