Jack Herer 3 weeks old outdoor. Just premium soil mix and water at this stage. It is a rather slow starter

Still just water at this stage. I got excited and tried to tip early, and ended up fimming, hence the damaged leaves. It didn’t really do anything, just stalled growth for a while. A rookie error.

Jack seemed to make a move this week. A real slow starter but now looking nice and deep green with large fingers on leaves already. Still just water at this stage.

Jack is away now, again doubling in height in a week. Just starting to add some organic seaweed fert into the water and she is really enjoying this. I also topped her, much more successfully this time, and both new growths are even sizes.

Jack has recovered well from the topping and growing further in height. Small pistils appearing for some reason but I’m not too concerned at the moment, a very branchy, deep green plant. It pays to remove some of the large leaves as it allowed much more light into the canopy and she has become much more dense and bushy.

Week 8 and Jack is definitely flowering. This is weird!! It’s coming into summer, days getting longer and 13 hours between sunrise and sunset, and she has decided to flower?!?! I contacted greenhouse thinking I may have received auto by mistake but they are adamant that they are not auto. I am now not sure where to go, to leave it and hope it veges out again, or to start feeding bloom fert and boost and bring it forward. I would be happy with this as it’s only for my personal stash so a low yield and quick finish would be awesome too. Anyone got any ideas??

The Jack Herer seems to be loving the new BIOCANNA feed. Last week I saw some of the first buds, now one week later heads are well away. It seems to have stopped getting taller now. I am hoping for the tops to fatten up in coming weeks.

Jack seems to be doing really well. I couldn’t help myself and gave it a serious trim of fan leaves to expose bud spots to sunlight. I thought I may have overdone it, but it seems to have responded well and is thickening up noticeably. At first I thought the buds looked a bit wispy on this strain, but it’s really coming together now.

Jack is coming along well, although it seems to be taking its time to mature. Buds are getting fatter but not as quick as I thought. This may be because it is Sativa dominant, and may take longer to mature than my Kalashnikova, which is more Indica dominant. That’s ok though, I have all the time in the world😊. It is definitely getting more smell, with a real pine odour to it. Some lovely red hairs are also appearing and it is getting much more sticky to touch. I may have gone too hard on the defoliation, which may affect the end result, but oh well, live and learn...

Jack is looking really nice now, with deep red hairs appearing, and buds fattening up again. I noticed the leaves had burns on the very tips of them so I backed of nutrient and just fed rain water for a while. This seems to have had a positive effect, I feel the plant has matured and thickened up more this week than recent weeks. Jack definitely looks like it’s gonna be sensational.

The Jack is a beautiful finisher. It always seemed like it was a bit behind, until the last 3 weeks where the changes accelerated, as did the smell and the thickness and density of the buds and branches. It is not a very branchy plant and is easy to maintain. Jack has a definite hashy smell when cleaning it up, and delivers dense buds rich in flame red hairs. Nice tight nugs when dried, even the smaller ones have good density. It’s curing now but I had to sneak a little trial,, really nice taste already, gives an instant dry mouth and definitely sorts you out. Update - smoke report after full cure. There is a lot online about Jack Herer, who has the best version or who has the closest to the original. I have not tried any other breeders versions so I can’t comment for them. For me, the Greenhouse Seeds Jack is simply top shelf. The effect is strong and long lasting. It is ideal for relaxing with a game on the ipad or sitting on the couch with the guitar. I feel like I still want to do things rather than just sink into the couch. But for me the highlight of Jack is the flavour. It is sublime. I love rolling a big joint and savouring that awesome flavour and smell. Goes really well with a ginger drink or ice water on a hot day. To me, the most lovely tasting smoke I have ever tried and my absolute favourite in 20 years of smoking. I will take some valuable lessons from this grow, and definitely have another crack at the Jack in the future

Hi, I believe we are in the same area. Have you notice these tiny black bugs that can fly. They look like beatles. My plant look fine. I used Eco Oil from bunnines. But the little bastartds keep coming back at night.

@Shooey, thanks. I will consider repotting. Issue is my plant is so big now in veg state 1 meter. LOL. They are not doing damage, i look everywhere. But they are annoying the hell out of me. Plus side, I see lady bugs running around on the plant. So i guess they are keeping them under control. Seen 3 lady bugs and a few smaller ones.

@Med_in_Tropic,thanks med as always. I had a search of this product. It looks really good, an organic fungus which infects insects. I might try and find some as I have small grasshoppers in the herb garden and wasn’t sure what to try, this looks ideal. Much appreciated med👍

@Shooey, I also use soil microbes that infect insects. The scientific name is Beauvaria bassiana. Brand name varies from one region to another. Basically mix with water and douse the soil with it. For thrips, aphids, and mites you will need to spray. Cheers guys

Hey, have you try to take cutting and root it?
Med_in_Tropic
Med_in_Tropiccommented5 years ago
@Shooey, safety first. I agree. But about cloning, it is easy. Cut lower branches. Stick in soil. Cover with clear plastic cup or bottles for a couple of weeks. 2/3 of the branches would survive. Much easier than other plants. Really, the only thing that I find easy about growing weed. I still grow from seeds because I am still new at this. And I want to try different strains. Cheers

@Med_in_Tropic, hi Med,, no I have not tried this yet. I don’t know much about how this is done but it is a good topic for future research and trial. I’m in Australia so I am trying to keep a maximum of 2 grows at any one time. Although it’s not legal where I am, we have just made it legal in Canberra, so I figure if things go bad (cops) I may be able to argue “personal use” more easily. This is my fist go at growing so I’m still a bit paranoid about getting sprung,,,, all the best bro
