Why twice-baked? Because I'm going to bake these cookies under the grow light until they're done... then use them to bake myself! :D They will live under the desk lamp until my current strain is finished flowering in the tent. This currently brings me up to my legal limit of 4. I've never tried GSC before! This is the strain that has a heavy Durban Poison and OG Kush lineage (there's two versions of GSC out there, this is the original I'm told). I'm excited to grow it, and to try it. My little homemade still is no longer able to produce enough distilled water to be reasonable, so I installed an RO kit under the kitchen sink. It's a cast iron sink so I don't want to risk messing it up trying to run the faucet through... I just use the faucet loose as a wand and have a place to store it under the sink when not in use. Works for me 🤷 It was actually really easy to install. It came with EVERYTHING I needed and it's all quick-connect fittings, except the one on the tank is screw-on and requires you to add some teflon tape. We live in a 40 year old house, and it had all the connectors and hookups we needed. Took about an hour to install and then I had to run water through it until the PPM was coming out around 10. Had some drainage problems with the buckets. DON'T BUY THE CHEAPEST PERLITE YOU CAN FIND! It was covered in dust. It cornholed up the drain. I had to pull EVERYTHING out after the plants had germinated, clean out both buckets, rinse the perlite for like 20 minutes until the dust stopped coming out -- then suddenly realized I lost 50% of my perlite as dust!!!!!! So I had to open more bags and wash more to be able to load up the buckets with non-dusty perlite. The process took care of D, but I guess somehow I missed thoroughly washing some of it in C and it clogged the drain again. Today, I had to take it allllllllll the fuck back out, clean it, and put it allll back together again. C only though since D was fine. Now it seems like C is draining properly. For the first several days I gave no nutes, but for the last few days I've been giving it a few drops of CaliMagic + 2-7-7 Cactus Food. Not much at all, but just enough that it can pull some nutrients if it needs to. They're looking good, especially considering I caused them lots of stress by having to pull them out of buckets and repack.

It took them a while because a) stress of having to be removed multiple times to have the buckets cleaned out to clear clogs; b) the fact that they are under LED lamp while waiting for the clones to finish flowering; c) they hadn't found the water shelf yet; and d) they were still in the 2-week seedling phase. But 2 days ago they found the water shelf. I woke up the next morning and they had almost doubled in size! The LED lamp really restricts them, but taking that into consideration they should start growing pretty good for their conditions. As soon as the clones are done flowering, they're going straight into the tent! Today I decided I'd start giving them an hour or two out in front of the tent to get some proper light every day.

Changed over from cactus food to maxigro! They seem to be loving it now that they’ve found the water table. Week 3 is complete. Heading into week 4 I will add a little maxi bloom as well for some extra P and K.

Why twice baked? Because I'm going to bake them under the light 'til they're done, then use them to get baked! :D Continued on this week with same nutes. Nothing too exciting, they grow slow (though surprisingly well given the circumstance) under the desk lamps. About 2 weeks 'til I harvest the 8BK and these girls can go into the tent. Starting into the 6th week tomorrow, I'll start adding 1.25ml of MaxiBloom to the solution on top of the MaxiGro and CaliMagic. As the week progresses, I will backfill with some more perlite and begin some LST. Just need them to get a little taller first! To my surprise, they actually smell quite strong for little vegging plants. If I leave the office door closed for an hour or so, it'll be pretty potent when I come back in. When I move them to the basin for their weekly servicing, they stink up that room too LOL

Why twice baked? Because I'm going to bake them under the light 'til they're done, then use them to get baked! :D Sorry for the crappy pics this week. I'm in a hurry. I harvested the flowering 8BK over the weekend, once it's done drying in the tent in another day or two I'll be able to move these GSCs in! For now, they're still sitting up on the desk using the desk lamp. Before I put them back, I trimmed 2 fan leaves off C and 1 fan leaf off D... only 1 fan leaf needed to be removed on each one to open up to light, however I also wanted to slow C down slightly to let D catch up, and I think removing the second large fan leaf will do it. Also applied the first dose of LST. Started adding some MaxiBloom for the extra P and K, build some nice stems and what not. Otherwise, autopilot... smooth cruising. On the diary update next week you'll be able to see them in the tent :)

Why twice baked? Because I'm going to bake them 'til they're done, then use them to bake myself! :D LOTS of Defoliation and LST this week. That's why they aren't huge right now, because I've been cutting off everything that's blocking light and tying the branches down, literally every freakin' day cuz they are growing pretty fast. Otherwise, autopilot. Same nutes, same pH, same temperature, etc. Plant D is more prone to being stressed than plant C. I can defoliate plant C and bend it all over the place and it just keeps growing. If I do extreme defoliation with D or bend it around too much it'll skip growing for a day! Neat to see the different phenotypes in action. Onward and upward... I'll veg them for at least another 2 weeks due to the holidays, I can't deal with the neediness of flowering plants right now. Not that I have to do much extra with them, but they HAVE to be watered every day when flowering, can't really skip a day. Plus once I flick to 12/12, I'll be planting new seeds in buckets A and B -- so then I'll have the added neediness of seedlings :P

Why twice baked? Because I'm going to bake them 'til they're done, then use them to bake myself! :D Sorry for lack of pics for this week, holidays and all, I'm lucky I even have a moment to post! Plant D struggled this week, it stopped growing and turned all dark green and "wilty". I flushed it for 3 days straight and it came back to life, but now it's far behind C! Plant C is just a trooper, keeps on keepin' on and doesn't care. Continued LST and Defoliation on plant C, plant D received what LST I could apply given its stunt this week. I'm considering using the ScrOG net for flowering, I think it'd give me a better result considering the problems I'm having with plant D.

Why twice baked? Because I'm going to bake them 'til they're done, then use them to bake myself! :D Plant D didn't grow nearly as fast/large as plant C, but I decided after Christmas that I'd flick over to flowering or plant C would start to become unmanageable in my small tent. When thinking about the fact that plant D is lacking, I decided I go ahead and try to turn this into a half-assed ScrOG! I've never ScrOGed before, and I realize that calling this ScrOGging is not the exact method (where you start from seed and do a 4-way), but I think using the ScrOG screen to reroute and expose more sites will produce more from these two plants in the end, the way things are currently going! Maybe I can stretch both plants out to mostly fill the tent this way. You can see the two new 8BK I've sprouted soaking up some rays before I put them back under the desk lamp :) They just popped up overnight! I'll be putting those in a separate diary in about a week, and will be doing proper ScrOG with them.

Why twice baked? Because I'm going to bake them 'til they're done, then use them to bake myself! :D Heavy on the MaxiGro this week! These girls like TONS of nutrients in the first 2 weeks of flowering or they start to easily show nitrogen deficiency. I know it's not proper ScrOG but I messed around with the net this time. Plant D was stunted a bit, and just one week of using the net to fan it out resulted in being able to almost fill out the tent! I think doing this will increase my yield considerably over what I would've gotten just letting them flower untouched. Lots of defoliation. Used 1 Tblspoon per plant of Hydrogen Peroxide during one of the waterings just to make sure no bacteria are growing. Otherwise, autopilot!! They are starting to have a more potent smell of creaminess.

This week I bumped up the CaliMagic, toned down the MaxiBloom, and started adding Bud Blaster. The last two days I've not even used any MaxiBloom as I was getting signs of nitrogen overdose! They're doing just fine with just Bud Blaster and CaliMagic for now. 🤷 I did have one blunder this week, I left the heater on "nonstop" and the room got up to 102F!!!! But only for a few hours before I walked in and freaked out. They don't seem to be affected by a few hours at that high of a temp. Otherwise, just autopilot! Worth noting that the stretch JUST ended and trichomes JUST started forming a few days ago, before the end of the third week :O I have a feeling these are going to take much longer than the 6.5 weeks that 8BK takes to flower.

Why twice baked? Because I'm going to bake them 'til they're done, then use them to bake myself! :D Wow, they stretched through the 4th week too!! 3 more inches! I hope they're done otherwise I'll have to raise the light. FINALLY starting to look a bit snowy with trichomes and have a few potentially nice buds shaping up. They started smelling REALLY strong this week. I don't like the smell of this strain very much, but I also know that as it matures more the smell will probably change a bit again, and after harvest and curing it'll be something completely different yet again. That's about it. On autopilot. Same thing every day, and because they're still stretching and growing nicely, I had to defoliate on 3 different days :O

The pics are from last week when they should've been taken, so we're all good there -- my brakes gave out in my truck (brake line busted) and I ended up spending days dealing with that (brake lines, pads and shoes, wheel cylinders, leaky issue with master cylinder, fun times!) on top of full time job and family. I even forgot to water the plants once! Anyway, smooth sailing... Will post the update for the week I'm currently in, in a couple days.

Why twice-baked? Because I'm going to bake them til they're done, then use them to bake myself :P Smooth sailing this week. Most of the trichomes are still clear but many are starting to turn milky. I imagine there will be at least 1 to 2 weeks left of flowering on these girls. Got my wife some non-stick Fiskars like mine, she's gonna help me harvest when it's time! I just keep doing the same thing every day, takes me about 20 minutes to water them and check them over. So about 2.5 hours per week spent tending to them!

Apologies for the late post and lack of pics! I've been spending all my time on harvesting and curing -- and taking LOTS of pics and a video to put up when I post the harvest. Plant C was ready (about 15% amber trichs on the plant) on Saturday Feb 8th 2020. I cut it down and began a water curing process, which was extremely successful! Two days later, Plant D was starting to amber so I began a flush. D was ready on Thursday Feb 13 2020, so I cut it down and began the drying process for a regular cure. Later today I'll be converting what I can of the trim into kief, pressing it into a lazy-man's hash block (which can always later be formed into whatever else... or just smoked as-is), and then secondary-processing the trim into golden dragon tincture using Everclear, to make edibles. I'll be documenting this process too. I'm hoping to start by making some white chocolate with candy cane chunks in it... mmmm. Both are done drying and are now in jars with 58% humidipacks, I'll come back in a week or two and post the harvest results with dozens of pics/video :)

Happy Harvest Day!

This is my first time not only growing GSC, but also consuming it. It is very much like 8 Ball Kush in terms of final jar-cured smell and also the high itself! The high does not seem to last as long as 8BK though, and oddly enough it's more couchlock than 8BK (weird considering GSC is part sativa), so I can't give GSC a 10/10. However I'm happy to give it a well-deserved 9! It was easy to grow. The only problem I recall having is needing to flush one time during the veg cycle or something like that because of nutrient lockout. Otherwise it loved my environment and nutrients etc. It even soaked up the Bud Blaster in the flowering phase with no complaints! Lots of beautiful trichomes everywhere, fast flowering period, nice stretch... Hardy plant with some nice looking calyxes and buds. Can't go wrong with the Durban Poison x OG Kush mixup, that's for sure. Nice thick stems and strong structure. Yielded about the maximum bud I can probably get from my setup, and gave me about half an ounce of hash to boot, plus enough potent tincture to make a few rounds of edibles :)

This was an interesting harvest. Everything was going great and the buds/trichomes were still piling on, when suddenly almost overnight plant "C" shifted to about 20% amber trichomes. So I harvested it, and because the other plant wasn't ready yet I decided to try water curing the first one for 7 days. Then at the end of the 7 days, I figured I'd hack down plant "D" and dry them both on the racks in the tent at the same time before moving into jars. The water curing was a huge success! After the first day, the water was cloudy with a slight green tinge. Second day was about the same. Then the water was just a little cloudy each change, no green tinge. Compare it to the diary I just opened around water re-curing some cannabis I bought from the government store, where the water is diarrhea brown :O On day 7 of my water cure, the water was perfectly clear so I decided to hack down plant "D" and get them both drying on racks in the tent together. While water-curing plant "C", I had its trim sitting in a bowl in the freezer. When I hacked down plant "D", I put its trim in the same bowl. After my typical wet-trimming, I hung up Plant "C"'s water-cured buds on the top rack, plant "D"'s buds on the 2nd rack for an old fashioned cure, and random trim from both plants spread out on the bottom 2 racks. The water-cured buds dried within about 24 hours and went into a jar with a 58% humidipack. The buds are SUPER dense and potent! Nice clean high, doesn't kill my throat. The downside is that the taste is really weak and not that great. But everything has pros and cons. Almost no trichome loss in the bucket during the water curing as well -- I was really worried about that! The other buds dried in about 36 hours and went into a jar with a 58% humidipack, where I burped it many times a day for a week. The smell and flavour are much more potent than the water-cured bud and it's a little harsher on my throat, but otherwise I'm not sure there's a detectable difference. However, you can SEE there's a sharp visual difference between the water-cured buds and the jar-cured :) Of course the jar-cured will mature more with time as well. Once the trim was completely dry, I put it in a bag in the deep freezer and dropped it to about -20. I didn't need to use a grinder this way -- I could just mash it all up in the bag with extreme ease! Sifted it through the kief screen, and pressed down 17 grams of lazy-man's hash! After processing the trim through the kief screen, I decarbed in the oven at 200F for 1 hour (this converts THC-A into THC or something to that effect -- if you don't do this, the edibles won't get you very high). I put the trim into a big mason jar and back into the freezer along with my bottle of Everclear. Once they dropped somewhere down around -20, I poured in the Everclear, put the lid on, and shook as hard as I could, as often as I could, for 5 minutes or so. I noticed that as I shook it around, the contents inside would alternate between solid and liquid which was kinda cool :) Shake it one way and it freezes, shake it the other way and it thaws... or something to that effect, anyway. I was able to use a double-coffee-filter to extract about 2 cups of dragon tincture! I threw everything in the coffee filter out -- next time I'm going to do a better job of it as there's a little pile of trichomes that forms at the bottom of the filter which I could put to use. Once I get that down next harvest, I'll have around 99% efficiency milking every last drop out of my harvests! White chocolate is so yummy, as are candy canes... I wanted to combine the two to make some edibles. Looking around for candy cane crush, I decided to check out Amazon. They had the same candy cane crush I was looking at from popular stores, for only a couple dollars more, so I figured sure why not have it delivered. I was planning to get some white Baker's chocolate, but on checkout of the candy cane crush I got a deal for adding on white chocolate Lindt bars for $1.25 a piece LOL! So I bought 10 of those. When the Amazon package arrived, I slowly boiled down 1/2 cup of my dragon tincture in a pot, then used a double-boiler setup to melt down 4 of the Lindt bars in the same pot. Once it was mixed well with the hash oil, I set it aside to cool for about 3 minutes before stirring in 1/8 cup of candy cane crush (plus I ended up adding maybe like a tablespoon more), pouring into a pan lined with parchment paper, and putting in the freezer for 30 minutes. So now I have a nice big chunk of white chocolate candy cane crunch stuff where a piece the size of my thumb gets me super high for like 8+ hours; 17 grams of lazy-man's hash; and 88 grams of bud :) And still enough dragon tincture left over to make 3 more rounds of edibles -- not sure what I'll make next! From now on I'm going to water cure a large portion of all my buds -- not just the ones I grow myself, but ones I buy from the Gummint too!
