Environment is dialed in really nice and she is responding well. This time around I decided to see if there would be a difference growing her out under a light vs outdoor sunlight. My last two runs were started in sunlight and the difference is negligible. However starting in the tent has allowed me to get the temps, rh,, light schedule, and CO2 where I want them.
This little one is my first photo grow (last two were auto's) and I am using a different breeder this time around. Excited for this grow because I am going to be trying a ScroG method and I think it will work out to my favor. My nutrient line-up is different as well, I'm done using GH and I will be using the entire FloraMax line from Australia. I will also be adding a new nutrient in a sense and that is Shilajit, really excited for this! My plan is for a four week veg period followed by an 8 week flower cycle. I will be topping at the 4th node, stripping the stems below, and weaving her through a ScroG net as mentioned earlier. Towards the end of the run just before flush I will be trying a new technique. Stay tuned
Week two is a great time to start watching, little seedlings always start growing so vigorously after the first sets of leaves come out. This week she was just given tap water (300 ppms) in Coco Loco soil from fox farms. Light has been turned all the way down to it's lowest setting for the first few weeks, and her humidity dome was removed for this week while the RH was kept at 67%. I can see the indica dominance in this strain starting to emerge.
Week 3 always shows fast growth and gets me excited for what's to come. With that being said preparation for the grow doesn't stop and become day to day but more of a proactive approach. I ran to my local hardware store and grabbed some items to build the Scrog net. Pretty simple to do, I'm going to only do one screen and if I have kolas that grow to long and can't support their weight I will grab some yo-yo's.
Weather is getting colder here in OC (Orange County, CA) so I will be adding a small heater to keep the temps up during the day which is her night time.
Fertigation dosage I'm starting off with a relatively low dosage of nutrients, first time using this company so I want to creep up on the dosage and not burn her. I am adding a new nutrient/acid to the mix in the form of Shilajit.
Week four (actually week two of veg) I saw some pretty impressive growth from her. This week she was topped, shaved, and tied down and she loved every bit of it. I started to also notice that she is putting out a skunky smell, much different then the Gorilla Glues I grew earlier this year. This smell I can only imagine will intensify as she gets more mature. I've tried pretty hard to keep my vpd in the range of 1.2 for veg, I do however have my doubts with the exhale bag. This time around I went with another bag but it was a 365 bag and this one you have to start the growth yourself and it takes about four weeks to light off. It has started to light off and I hope it increases the CO2 level a lot, I would like to see it on the range of 1100 to 1700 ppm's but as I mentioned I have my doubts with just one bag. Fertigation has increased to half a gallon every other day, week five I will do a flush to remove any potential salt build up. Thanks for stopping by, I know veg isn't as impressive as flower but it is still fun to watch them grow. Happy growing growmies!
Height for this week is right at 6.5" while being tied down. She’s grown a lot and is enjoying the LST. I did more defoliation up to the 2nd node of the side and main kola’s. She looks really good with shaved legs lol. Veg is moving along nicely with no major problems, next week I will be increasing the dosage of A&B by a fair amount and week 6 will see the addition of kelp to the lineup. I will also be making some new cables to raise the max light height.
Week six has been a week of highs and lows. This week I did more LST, my goal is to get the branches to grow out to the corners of the net and then i will be tying them down under the net going in a clockwise rotation until the net is completely filled. In doing so I was massaging one of the main branches to get her flexible so I can tie her down and in doing so when I went to tie her down she was not so limber and I snapped the branch literally in half. Only thing keeping it attached was the outside layer of the branch (skin if you will). Did some quick thinking, made a splint from a toothpick, added some cloth tape, wrapped fairly tight, and added some support. She responded very well, no damaged leaves, healthy growth and she is doing great. I was really worried, but accidents like these and a successful fix only makes you a better grower.
She was topped at the two top branches this week and is showing stamina and stature, I also did more defoliation to the under canopy. At this point I'm going to let her grow out and begin tying her down. I've increased the nute dosage and have yet to see any tip burn, I'm going to increase every watering until I see tip burn then back off the dosage by 1ml. Thanks for stopping by!
Removed the splint from the broken branch and she has healed nicely. Right now I'm doing the continuous LST, with minor defoliation. Goal is to run the branches and tie down under the net attempting to fill each square of the net. I suspect that the growth in the center of the net will get larger than the growth at the last square to be filled. To counter this and keep the canopy level I'll keep tucking the shoots under the net till it is all even. I estimate about four more weeks of veg.
My approach to scrogging is a lot different then what I have seen on youtube and other media sites. I decided to grow her into the net (horizontal trellis) as you would a Jasmine tree or any other creeping plant. This I believe to be the true way to do a scrog, rather than just grow her out to a bush and then drop the net on and weave the limbs through. You get a better idea of how your plant grows, and how fast she grows just by spending more time with her.
Dosage has been increased and I still do not see any signs of tip burning and I'm almost at the manufacturers dosage recommendations for this nutrient. I use bluelab ph and tds meters for checking levels and I feel comfortable at 1,000 ppms for this plant in veg so this will be the dosage strength until flower (I dose once a week with recharge and the ppms goto 1110 on those fertigation days). I have added CalMag to the dosage, I noticed purple stems (could be a trait of this strain or a deficiency) and decided to error on the side of safety and see if this would help with the new growth, even the the manufacturer said not too. I have noticed (writing this during week 10 currently) that the addition of CalMag has worked as intended and the majority of the purple stems has dissipated a lot.
As the plant has been growing the humidity has been steadily increasing because of the vegetative growth and my current humidifier (I believe it is a two pint dehu) just can't hack it, I replaced it with a infomia 30 pint version and this what I needed from the beginning, those of you wondering what size to get, start with a 30 pint and go up from there if you are in a tent. This dehu immediately makes the humidity drop within seconds (3x3x7 tent) and it provides enough heat to the point a heater is not needed in my case.
I'm going to estimate that veg will continue for a few more weeks until the net is filled. Thanks for stopping by!
Cruising along till I flip the light. Once a week I defoliate, flush with recharge, maintain with pH'd water at 5.9 rinse and repeat. Humidity was getting in the high 60's and the little dehu was not going to get me in the range I needed to be so I had to swap it out for a 30 pint dehu. Next couple weeks should be time for flower. Thanks for stopping by!
I'm glad that I am using silicate with this grow, the amount of bending and stressing I'm doing to her without silicate I would have broken many branches. Highly recommend silicate for strong branches. She's starting to take her own shape and all I'm doing at this point is fertigating, watering, fertigating, watering, fertigating, watering, and flushing (w/recharge and mammoth p pH'd 5.9) to a runoff of 400 ppm. Once a week is a major defoliation and throughout the week I just make sure big fan leaves don't cover bud sites. She's filling out the net a lot more and I'm counting down the days till 12/12. The show is about to start!
This is the last week of veg, the remaining room in the net will be utilized when she starts her stretch in flower. The nutrient line FloraMax has been amazing, they are spot on with the dosage levels unlike other companies. Their A&B dosage levels per gal is 11ml and I'm at 9ml without any signs what so ever of a deficiency or burn. They are one of the more expensive nutrient lines at $25+ per bottle (1gt) in their lineup, but the results speak for themselves. I would say that you can grow two photos with a fresh line of their nutes before having to replace certain bottles like A&B.
Temps for veg have stayed in the mid 70's the entire grow with RH between 60-70% targeting a 1.1 vpd. HLG 550r is the perfect size for a 3x3 grow space imop, able to be turned down for the 3x3 and you have the benefit of moving into a 5x5 using the same light so no upgrade is needed, not to mention it is just a badass light!
Did major defoliation to her just before the flip with a little more lst. Light schedule is from 5pm to 5am to keep the temps steady at night and utilizing the day to keep cooler temps. Cherry pie is one of those strains that like the colder climate which makes it ideal for a winter grow in my area. New nutrients from FloraMax have been added to help production in the flower period, and since the dosage is increasing a bit more I will be adding fulvic acid to help maximize nutrient uptake.
Schedule for fertigation is as follows - fertigation, watering, fertigation, watering, fertigation, watering, flush to a runoff of 550 ppms (I don't waste time with a % of water). Fertigation is full dosage at 1250 ppms @ 5.8 - 6.0pH, watering is 290 ppms with fulvic acid at 5 ml @ 5.8 - 6.0 pH, and flushing is 350 ppms with fulvic acid and recharge @ 5.8 - 6.0 pH.
During watering I will be doing some minor defoliation to make sure bud sites are not covered and that is about it. This strain is supposed to conclude in about nine weeks of flower, so at this point I should be on cruise control..finally! Thanks for stopping by
She is doing very well, she is healthy, no deficiencies, no pests, very hearty and vigorous. I'm not used to being so close to manufacturers recommendations on dosage but with this one I'm right there. This product line does require Cal Mag, they state you don't but when I stop using it I start to see the signs quickly on the leaves, the dosage is extremely low so it will continue.
She is also very smelly and sticky, when the stalks are rubbed the smell reminds me of Douglas Fir trees and lemons. I'm starting to notice some frosting coming in and this is also adding to the smell. She is growing about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch daily, humidity is starting to rise so I have had to run the dehu at a setting of 40%, the RH sweep is from 40% to 52%. Light is running at 323w (508w possible) with temps in the low 80's.
Well now the fun starts, week 3 of flower is really when I start to see drastic changes. She has moved through transition and is now starting to show flowering buds, exciting times are ahead. She is a very sticky girl, resin production is high and she smells like the Oregon forest with citrus trees in bloom. I am on top of defoliation and will be leaving the large fan leaves on the top of each kola, just trimming the fan leaves my scissors get stuck all the time and that's a good problem. Dehu is set to 40% to maintain a RH range of 40-55% for flower, and the light is at 325 watts. Flushing during the week has gone from a 3 gallon flush to 5 gallons in order to get the runoff ppm where I like it. Next week I will be reducing parts A&B by 1ml and increasing Flowering Enhancer and Resin XS by 1ml. Total ppm is right at 1250 and that is a good total for her, I have never seen any tip burn or deficiency so far and as of now the results have been great and I don't see pushing in more nutes for little to no increase in gains. She is extremely healthy and vigorous, ILGM certainly has some damn good genetics!
Frost is coming, resin production is in full swing. No pests, no deficiencies, just an awesome grow so far. Doing minor defoliation to keep humidity in check.
Week is going smooth and she's moving along like she has all grow....flawless. Trichomes are forming rapidly and looks to be on schedule, breeder has this strain at 56 days or 8 weeks but I suspect she might go longer (almost every strain I have grown has). I have removed silicate from the dosage as it is no longer needed at this point, I have also reduced the RH% to 45% for this stage of flower.
Last two weeks we have had a little hot spell and it is keeping the temps up at night, a bit bummed because I run my lights at night and they are off during the day. With day temps up the tent stays at 78f, wish it was cooler but it is what it is. I looked at the trichs and they are all clear, so it looks as if she will go past eight weeks and into nine for sure. Getting excited and planning the next step
Light was turned down to 300 watts (website should allow for you to edit light wattage) Actual gram to watt is 1.45
This will be my last diary entry here, this website is broken and the devs do not update nor do they fix the issues. Adios
U topped to get four main branches
U no the second time u topped at what node did u do it and did utop all four branches.. let.me.no cheers about to so a scrogg urs looked wikid mate
@Evn_420, thanks! I try to be as descriptive as possible, thanks for noticing that. It’s a great light you’ll be happy with it. In flower I’ve seen great results with the light 18”-24” from canopy.
Beautiful grow! Came here to see how you ran your 550 V2 RSpec, just got the light myself. In week 3 of flowering, I’m having to adjust wattage and height. After seeing your results, I’ll keep mine at 20” and a bit above half power through the rest of flowering. Where are you currently journaling, I would like to continue following your grows?
