Day 57:
Spent the last week learning all about nutrient lock-up. Good times. Now I know how to flush my plant effectively. The first flush that I did wasn't nearly thorough enough. The next time that I watered the ppm was way high, so I was forced to do a second flush with a full 8 gallons. The plant looks immediately happier! Reaching back for the light. There's definitely some deficiencies coming through on a few leaves but I think that's just a result of being locked up for a week. She's going to be on half strength nutrients this week with the next water. I'll hopefully be switching her over to flower in a week or two. I bet she'll flesh out quickly this week and next.
Day 58:
Gave her a dose of fertilizer today. Half power on all the nutrients. Solution - pH 6.6, ppm 575. Runoff - pH 6.2, ppm 725. I'll let the medium dry right out before the next rinse. A couple of days for sure before she'll need water. Gave 1.5 litres of solution. I made a few adjustments to the environment today as well. Added another oscillating fan to try and spread the hot air around a bit better from the space heater. I noticed that the side of the pot that is closer to the heater is drying out and I don't want to damage the root zone. This made it so I could remove the fan that I had beside the humidifier which has always been in the way when I need to refill the reservoir. Things are looking good in the tent. There are lots of branch tips starting to poke through the canopy. I am optimistic about the next couple of weeks leading up to flower.
Day 59:
The cheeba has dried out faster than I thought she would. No water today but likely tomorrow. Looks like I'll be sticking to the every-other-day schedule for now. She's certainly growing well again after the flush and boost of nutrients. I'll be keeping the nutrients at half power unless I start to see some new deficiencies. My research has led me to believe that a regular flush once a month will prevent future lock-ups. Every time I learn something new I get stoked, so this whole process has been awesome. And there is still lots to learn! Also picked up the rest of the nutrients that I'll need for flower. I am ready!
Day 60:
Third times the charm I hope. I misread my watering jug. The last flush that I did was only 8 litres when I thought it was 8 gallons. So naturally the ppm was spiked to 1500 when I read todays runoff. After a full 8 gallons I feel like I've finally done the right thing. The pH rose up to 6.8 and I was able to fully flush the ppm down to 100. She's been repositioned under the scrog net and things are looking good. Lots of little branch tips poking through the canopy. I'm just going to let her get a bit bigger before going to the flower schedule. I took the time to write out a full nutrient schedule last night (in pencil), so I feel fairly organized for the future.
Day 61:
She's back on the nutrients today. Started adding a bit of B-52 and Voodoo Juice. I've been doing lots of research and I am hoping that I'm not overlapping too many nutrients. I think I've done a good job of collecting the full spectum of complementary ingredients. Now it's back to letting her juice up for a week. Ive done a bit of LST on the taller branches which seems to really be encouraging branch growth from lower down on the plant. I can't quite imagine her covered in buds, but I'm sure she'll do just grand.
Day 62:
She's drinking every day now. Taking about 2 litres each morning. I think this may be because I've turned the exhaust fan up to increase airflow. Things are green and growing. I called the Advanced Nutrients help line to talk about ppm levels. The levels seem to be increasing without me adding nutrients. Supposedly this is because of humic acids and or sediment in the solution which adds to electrical conductivity in the runoff. Advanced Nutrients recommends that I continue with the full feeding schedule or risk underfeeding the plant. I'm curious to see if the full dose would be beneficial but I do not want to burn my plant. I think that I will try and juice it up a bit since I know that I've done a solid flush this week. I will continue with the alternating water/feed schedule for now to ensure that salts do not build up. Solution - pH'd to 6.4. Runoff - pH 6.4, ppm 700. Found a fungus gnat. Preventative measures incoming.
Is it okay for seedlings medium to dry up a bit at the surface or is it better to keep moist? She hasn't truly wilted. Just taking her time standing up after the last watering.
The stage that she's at and the size of that cup you don't wanna soak her it's fine for the top soil to become dry ,don't want to drown the roots . They can be droopy after watering and low night time temps . She looks healthy nutes are good nice job brother and goodluck ...she would be good for a transplant by now ..
The pH of the runoff continues to drop below 6.0 with each feed, resulting with me trying to bounce it back every other watering. I would like for the pH to be more stable. Any ideas why this might be happening? I am using Advanced Nutrients pH perfect - Grow, Micro, Bloom.
That probably means you have a very acidic soil. You can add some lime stone to the soil and water with higher pH like 6.5-7 and keep checking it but to be totally honest I hardly ever measure my pH levels anymore 😂 but I only grow 2 plants at a time. I haven't noticed much difference but my ph come out 6.5 from the tap lol
Orang tips on calyxes? Seems a bit soon. Not all over the plant. Only some bud tips at this point. A few chewed leaves but no signs of bugs that I can find. Some signs of the claw suggest too much nitrogen? Dialing the nutrients to half power. Any ideas or suggestions welcomed!
Hey Growmie ...
After seeing the pics and you stating the leaves ar clawing, I would say that this is definitely heat stress, so you did right by raising the lights to prevent any further damage to the buds. If no more damage happens everything with be fine and you won't even notice it was there once she starts kicking off those great purple colored buds. Good Luck with the rest of your journey and remember ..."Happy Growing" and "Free your mind one puff at a time".
Drying ganja for the first time. Buds are in the dark with temp steady at 70F. Humidity steady at 55%. Trimmed fan leaves, but left all sugar leaves. Plant is stinking like wet grass on the 3rd day of drying. Will this smell break down or am I needing to make some adjustments?
Completely normal the smell is, the first few days the smell is generally pungent. Just make sure there is fresh air coming in and air is circulating. A oscillating fan will do. Smell will only get better as she slowly dries out.
@MountainMatt, I have had hay smell before. It usually happens when you dry too fast in a low humidity environment. On my current grow, I'm going to use my tent and put in a humidifier to keep it at 60% RH at about 65degF (18degC). Also I'm not going to use a circulation fan, and I'm going to keep it pitch black in there.
@MovingOn, do you have any experience dealing with the hay smell? going into the 5th day of drying and she's not giving off very much of her grape flavour...
@MovingOn, like real fruity grapes. Reminds me of blueberry pancakes. She's not super stinky, but covered in a good layer of trichomes top to bottom. I'll put some more details in the harvest report in a week. Thanks for following along eh!
@MountainMatt,
No,not yet but it is very enjoyable smoke great for evenings. I do want to pick up some seed,or a good clone but got lots of other seed I need to grow out first lol! Oh what a problem to have. I need a greenhouse to get caught up lol👍
@stunflower, Cheers eh! Im stoked to see how purple yours goes. I feel like I could have let the flush run to 9 weeks, but the top buds were prime for the chop.
Best of luck! Are you sure this is your first grow?! Haha. Looking healthy and it seems you've done your research. I'll follow along, I like it when people actually record their grows with their weekly experiences.
