Welcome to a new DWC diary, this time with a strain from Barney's Farm, Purple Punch Auto.
Excited to see what this strain can do in water, will train her to get as wide as possible just like with my last grows.
Week 2 for the Purple Punch Auto in the DWC bucket, I had to fix some light leaks which resulted in some root disease, I added Voodoo Juice now and closed the system properly.
She grows nice and quick, I started training her and topped one of the branches.
Week 3 for the Purple Punch Auto by Barney's Farm in this bucket. She grows very well, the roots have recovered and the plant is thriving.
I increased the feed slightly and changed the water again, did this every week so far, in my hydro grows before I sometimes gave it 2 weeks before I changed the water but in this grow I want to try weekly changes.
Next week we should see some big growth difference I hope, so far everything works perfect.
Week 4 in this DWC bucket for the Purple Punch Auto by Barney's Farm. She is looking amazing, grows very well, typical hydro speed which is rapid, and she makes so many branches.
Can't wait to see what the next few weeks bring especially if she will go through the same stretching period like the soil version, this is a first one for me but I hope she doesn't, yes you heard right because i'm running out of head room in this mammoth tent :D
Well lets see whatever she decides to do I will adjust the setup.
I'm back from a 3 week vacation, here is the first update on the Purple Punch Auto in Hydro, she is massive, she grew so much in the last 3 weeks. The roots look healthy and she is out of the tent now because she is to big.
Can't wait to see what she packs on in the next weeks.
Week 8 for this beast, the Purple Punch Auto is starting to pack weight on and there is a lot of room for buds, so many branches.
She is happy, ran out of cal mag for a few days but back on track now.
Meanwhile I harvested the soil version of this strain and she made 1136g wet so will be interesting to see how much this hydro version can do 😍
Week 9 for this hydro grow, the Purple Punch Auto is massive and starts to pack on weight, I was playing with the formula a bit and changed a few things, lets see how she reacts this week.
Stretch is clearly done and now its all about getting heavy, removing leaves daily on her. I think from next week onwards we will see some thick buds developing, she smells exactly like the soil version which I harvested already ( there will be an update with final dry weight in the other diary soon)
Another week gone, she packs on weight now, if she goes the same path like the soil version id say she is ready soon, then end stage was very quick on the soil version.
She still shows some battle scars from when the cal mag ran out but she does well, trichomes develop beautifully.
She smells extremely nice, just as the first one I ran in soil the smell is the same just beautiful 👌
Week 11, we are getting there, she packs on weight daily and the buds really start building. At the beginning of the grow it was always exciting and fun to check the root ball but these days she is so heavy and difficult to balance I don't even want to touch her 😲
I decreased the nutrients overall a bit, just to keep the ppm a bit lower now. Last week I bought a new airstone as well, my old setup really struggled to bubble through that 25 liter root ball monster so I bought a complete new setup that pumps much more air with a stone that does 25+ Liters per minute. Its beautiful to have a Autoflower that size but at the same time its hard work to handle a plant that size in a 25 L pot, especially the instability is tricky, something you don't really have to worry about in soil as the plant is grown solid into the ground and doesn't move.
The next step will be to build something to support her, if she develops the same bud structure like the soil version I ran a few weeks ago then she will need it because those buds were massive and on this branch structure they would be even bigger.
Trichome development is beautiful, really nice coating all over the plant.
Another week for the Purple Punch in hydro, she is finishing now and I will start the flush after 1 refill. She is covered in trichomes and has massive long buds, cant wait to see the final shape.
She drinks the same rate as before but gets harder to manage by the day but I sorted her out a bit and cleaned her up, now she sits nice.
I think after next week of flush she will be ready for harvest, next update will be the harvest I guess 💪
Another week for the Purple Punch Auto in Hydro, she is getting fat now, I recently changed nutrients to the pH perfect line from Advanced Nutrients. Plant likes the Nutrients, nothing wrong with GHE I just wanted to try some new products so as I ran out of GHE ordered the whole line from AN.
The plant is still packing on size, even though the buds are very dense and fat already, trichomes are 50 clear 50 milky, will give her another few days and then flush with Flawless Finish.
Smell is incredible and she reminds me a lot of the the version in soil just in way bigger. I gave her a good trim and cleanup and removed some of the smaller branches now as we are coming towards the end.
The Purple Punch Auto turned out to be a true surprise. A plant with very strong growth, both in soil and hydro, great flavors, amazing Trichome coating. A clear recommendation.
Well this was one exciting autoflower run, started of very promising and turned into a small LST tree. I really enjoyed this whole grow and its challenges of running a plant that size without a scrog or anything, I do that because of my photography, I don't want to lock the plant in place.
Overall this strain likes growing, soil version was a beast as well, super dense buds with really nice Trichome coatings on them. Smell and flavor are great and I can highly recommend this strain.
She made just above 2000g wet ( weight without root ball and stems, just buds with half of the main stem) and turned out to be 292g dry (only chopped buds no stems) which is a great result for a autoflower in my opinion.
Feeding was a bit all over the place with this grow, started with GHE what used to be my standard and then switched to AN, both did their job great and the plant liked the nutrients.
@NuggetPawn, thanks man ! Honestly if the amount of leave removal did slow her down then im glad because she is way to big in the first place 😂 she outgrew the tent completely and in hydro everything just grows super quick, in soil I might agree that to much defoliation can slow down your growth but in hydro it seems to not matter almost, there is no stopping this plant in hydro :D
@Pot_Portraits, each to their own mate, but I think you should try without on your next grow and see if you get better results... The leaves are like wicks, transpiration draws nutrients and water up the plant, more leaves = more transpiration and photosynthesis :) I think defoliation will no longer be a thing in a couple years time when people realise. Not a criticism from me by the way, I defoliated last grow, this time with the same lights, just a bit of a bigger space. I'm gonna see what the difference will be... Already looking much better so I am confident.
Good luck with the rest of your grow 👍
@@Imnotmeanimjusttired, thanks mate ! Its just a bucket with a home made netcup, 25cm huge air stone and a big air pump, that's pretty much the whole setup.
@Mr_Weeds_Autos, yeah they get bigger for sure ! If you live in an area with solid power supply an rarely get power cuts its for sure worth a try 💪 Its a lot of fun once you get into it.
Hi!
Congratulations! Was an incredible work!
I have a grow room but I never tried hydroponics system, but I'm intrested!
But I have a question for you!
When you change the water of your pot? Once a week? Twice?
Thank you!
Mannnn LOOOK at that ! I just purchased my first two bubble pots and looking at this I think I've made the right choice. Looks HENCH great growing my friend you should be proud :) Keep up thee great work !
@Pot_Portraits, Your Welcome pal keep up the great work. Haha There are worst problems to have I suppose :) I mean the size that plant and the bucket its in is awesome lol bet your excited for the chop soon :)
@TheUk420Show, Thanks a lot mate, appreciated 🙏 Its fun, you will enjoy it for sure, just started 2 more strains in Hydro as well, lots of fun to grow but size wise really challenging at least with this purple punch monster here.
Just keeping her balanced on the pot is a challenge, she is so heave she rips everything when she moves 😜
Beautiful looking plant!! I have a few questions for you. What size was your veg room? And, were you getting light leaks in your reservoir? If so, where exactly and how did you stop them? I just began my first hydro grow and I am worried about root rot. I have a 17-gal tub with lid, all white, 16 (too many) 3 inch net cups. I will be using hydroton in cups. Good luck the rest of the way. I'm considering grabbing that strain myself now thanks to you.
@megatron, thank you ! the veg tent was 90x90x160, then when she was to big I moved her outside. I didn't have any light leaks, I close the lid and cover it with and old black shirt so everything is sealed. In my first hydro grow I had root rot but fixed it with voodoo juice. Purple Punch Auto is a big grower no matter the medium, even in soil they get massive 💪
