This is only my third grow ever. I feel like I got things dialed in with my first two runs, so I figured it's time put things up here and get the community's input on things I can do better.
I have a 36"x20"x63" grow tent, carbon filter, fans, etc. I'm using Bush Doctor Coco Loco for soil (NOT straight coco, it's a soil blend).
They just popped out of the dirt last night, so obviously no nutes yet, just keeping it as humid as I can, might mist them in a day or 2, soil is damp from pre-wetting. Not planning on using any nutes for the first few weeks. 2 of them are in 3 gallon fabric pots, one is in a 5 gallon fabric pot. Just curious if there will be a difference in veg length/flower time/yields with a different pot size. I plan on topping them about the 4th node.
Temps/humidity been pretty steady at about 75f/60%. Been spraying #s 1&3 every day with just water, started watering the soil for # 2 with half a solo cup of water every other day or so.
Plant #1 - don't know if this one will live, we'll see. I'm considering pulling it, but I can't bring myself to give up on it yet.
Plant #2 - Looks happy and strong!
Plant #3 - I expect this one to survive. I Had one stunted like this on my previous run, it took about 20 days longer to finish than it's sister, but yielded almost double. Keeping my fingers crossed... 🙏🙏🙏
After my first couple grows, I'm nervous about overwatering, but I think I let these get a bit too dry. I tried to soak to the bottom of the pots on day 17, we'll see if that helps the runts pick up the pace.
Day 17: moved the humidifier inside the tent to try and bump humidity more.
No pics for end of week, out of town for Christmas!
Temp/Humidity steady at 75deg/55%, solid growth from all 3 plants.
Older leaves on #2 started yellowing this week, so I started feeding nutes on day 27; the other 2 are still on water only.
Curious to see how the runts turn out, but it looks like they're starting to pick up a little steam!
Upped nutes on day 33 feeding from .25 tsp/gal to 1 tsp/gal, plant #2 has some yellowing in between the veins on lower leaves, which I suspect is nitrogen deficiency. We'll see how things look next feeding, probably day 37 or 38.
Plant 1 is an odd mass of leaves, I can't quite see what shape it's going to take.
Plant 2 seems happy and healthy despite the yellowing.
Plant 3 has an odd shape as well. The second node leaves are both missing a lobe on the right side of the plant, and the next node has no leaves on the left, but 2 splitting off on the right that only have 2 lobes each.
This has been a pretty good week!
#1 has started to shoot up quickly now and is obviously behind schedule-wise, but I think it'll grow up to be a decent size plant. No pre-flowers or anything yet, but I'm happy for it to veg as long as possible.
#2 Big and beautiful, I'm still trying to adjust to the nitrogen deficiency without overdoing it. Probably only going to give one more veg feeding anyway. I love the way it's leaves are just pointing up every morning!
#3 is in a similar situation to #1; behind schedule but shooting up fast, no preflowers yet. But this one is just lanky and shaped weird, it doesn't seem like any real structure is developing, nodes are just shooting out at weird angles and they're not all in pairs. We'll see what this turns into.
Probably going to change journal to flowering for next week and we'll just see what happens with my 2 vegging plants.
Tons of growth this week on all 3 plants.
#1 is starting to shoot up fast, now about 10 inches tall on day 49. Still no preflowers.
#2 is now about 20 inches tall, still gaining .5 to 1 inch a day; I'm going to start heavier bloom nutes next feeding. I also plan to defoliate this one a bit next week now that flowers are established.
#3 is now about 15 inches and showing first pre flowers on day 49, I included a pic. It's been a bit droopy, but that seems to have been from cooler temps in the tent.
Temps in the tent were getting pretty low with the weather getting colder, so I bought a temperature controlled outlet for my exhaust fan. Even at the lowest setting my fan was pulling too much cool air in and it would drop to the upper 50s in the tent overnight. The controller kicks off the exhaust fan when it gets too cold, keeping things closer to 80, and now even droopy #3 is perfectly perky in the morning.
#2: Defoliation on day 50. I just pulled off a good size handful of the large water leaves and some of the really tiny bud sites near the bottom of the plant.
#3: Day 53, top leaves canoeing heavily, large brown spots on a few leaves. Turned off right fan to see if that's causing canoeing, not sure what to do about spots. Top leaves still canoeing, might be lights. Raised them a bit.
Had a problem with major humidity spike on the evening of day 54, big brown spots showed up on some leaves, I pulled them off, got the humidity under control and all seems fine.
Also seems my ph pen needed to be cleaned. All of the deficiencies may be a result of ph being off, will keep an eye on things over the next week or 2 to see if cleaning the ph pen solved the problem.
Despite all that, all 3 still growing strong!
Day 57: Major defoliation, it was just getting WAY too crowded in there, a lot of bud sites not getting any light and humidity was starting to get out of control.
Day 60: Another big defoliation.
#1 & #3 each gained about 5" this week. My light is about as high as it can go and #3 is getting REAL close to touching it... Hopefully it stops pushing vertically or I'll have to supercrop it, and I'd rather not do that.
#2 is starting to put on weight, empty spaces are filling in and pistils are turning brown.
No more signs of nute deficiencies, maybe even a slight bit of tip burn here and there, but nothing I'm worried about. Seems it was a nute lockout from my ph pen needing to be cleaned.
Overall, a really good week, makes me hopeful for a 1/2lb harvest!
Day 68: #1 & #3 are in need of a major defoliation, probably won't have time until tomorrow evening; they're both still growing really fast. I really like the way #2 is filling in.
Day 69: Nice. Big defoliation for plants 1 & 3. The top of the main cola for #3 is now the same height as the center light (and there's no room to raise the light anymore), so I scooted it to the side of the light and raised the side blurple light since there's still room for adjustment there. Supercropping may be in the near future for #3 if it doesn't slow down. That one also has a side cola that's 2' long with buds all the way down. Biggest plant I've grown yet, I'm so excited.
Big week for growth, excited about #2 bulking up and getting ready for harvest. So far no signs of a fade starting, so it's probably at least 3 weeks or so to harvest.
#s 1 & 3 are just shooting for the stars, should be a good haul off those.
But for real, I need #3 to chill with the vertical growth, holy cow.
Day 73: I think #2 is two to three weeks from being done, I'm going to start flushing today. #1 & #3 seem to have finally stopped vertical growth.
Really getting excited about this grow, especially #3... I'll be shocked if I don't get more than a QP of that monster.
Major defoliation for all 3 on day 77
#2 is starting to fade
#2 got chopped this week. I'd like to have flushed at least another week, but I couldn't let it go much longer. First plant to go in the MyHerbsNow dryer.
Going to have to tie up some of the branches on #3, they're already starting to sag and it hasn't even really started to fatten up. Some of the branches look like they'll give me an ounce each...
Pistils starting to turn orange
I'm upping the flowering nutes, the buds just aren't fattening up like I'm used to, and the only thing I've changed this run is going lighter on the nutes.
I got a 32"x32" tent this week to replace the 36"x20", and I got a Mars Hydro TS1000 to replace my Roleadro grow light. The extra sq. footage is really nice, and even though the new light pulls fewer watts from the wall than the old one, the light is significantly brighter and really fills the whole tent. Still need to use one of those 50w Fecida Blurple COBs on the top of #3 since it sticks up above the main light at max height...
Still growing new pistils on both plants, although a significant portion are turning brown. I expect them both to really fatten up in the next week or 2, probably start flushing sometime this coming week, then I'll harvest. I may do a 2 part harvest and let the bottoms grow in a little more. Definitely going to be lollipopping on future runs, I did it on previous runs with this strain and got much bigger buds up top.
#3 looks like it's starting to fade a little.
Got home after a weekend away, and the fade is happening nicely on #3 and seems to be just starting on #1. Still a lot of new white pistils shooting out everywhere though, so I'm just gonna watch it to see what happens.
Day 101: starting flush on both plants, anticipating about 10 days to 2 weeks till harvest.
Day 105: getting frosty as hell, both plants fading nicely but still a LOT of white pistils. Smells exactly like Fruity Pebbles.
Maybe this will be harvest week. Still a lot of white pistils, but I think they'll brown up in the next few days, and even the lower buds are filling out nicely. I may do a two-part harvest with these and let the lowers finish up.
I'm loving the fade on these.
Definitely going to chop #1 in the next day or two, #3 is still throwing out white pistils which is unbelievable with how long it's been fading. Will check trichomes again tonight on both.
Day 113: checked trichomes. Maybe 50/50 clear/cloudy, not really any red. Gonna give it MORE time, but they sure look like they should be done already!
Ended up chopping #1 day 113, 224g wet.
Day 115: As soon as #1 is done in the dryer, I'm going to chop #3. Ended up with 48g dry, but it's over dried, going to add a little humidity back in.
Day 116: Getting the chop tonight probably!
Plant #2 harvested week 12. A lot less yield than I hoped for with this one, but should be a bit over an ounce when dried. I usually hang full branches and dry trim later, but since I just got a MyHerbsNow dryer, I trimmed a lot of leaf matter, but not enough to qualify as a true wet-trim. This is my first time using the dryer and I'm eager to see how it will turn out. It should be ready for curing jars in about 96 hours, I'll give it a taste then. Will report back on both the performance of the dryer and the potency/taste of the harvest!
Update: I checked the Herb Dryer after 48 hours, and they were already a little too dry! My laundry/furnace room is where my grow tent is, and the humidity was only in the mid-30's so I may need to put a humidifier in there when drying. I finished trimming and dropped it all into a mason jar to cure, but kept a little for a taste test last night... As far as the first run using the dryer goes, I obviously have to dial in my technique, but I'm impressed with the results. It would normally take me well over a week to get my buds this dry, and I think the taste/smell from using the dryer is at least as good as hanging, but it has the added benefit of being WAY faster and uses a lot less space. Highly recommend.
SMOKE REPORT: I ground up a small bud, filled my dry herb vape and took 3 good pulls, which is my normal evening dose. Really good flavor, earthy/piney/peppery, but the smoke was harsher than my last batch of home-grown, probably because I didn't really flush this one. It took maybe 10 mins for it to hit me, but when it did, my mind started racing and my heart rate picked up; I ended up on the verge of uncomfortably high. After about 30 minutes I got that tingly-numb-all-over thing happening, which would level out, but then it would sharply step up in intensity every 10 mins or so. That numb feeling was wonderful though, it took away my constant back pain. After about an hour, the sedative side took over and it knocked me out for the night. I slept like a baby, but I think I'm gonna dial it back a hair when I use it again.
#1: 224g wet. Smells like Fruity Pebbles. We'll see how it is after a few days in the dryer! 48g dry. Still smells like Fruity Pebbles after drying, tastes like it in my vape, very heavy Indica stone. I took a few pulls, sat down to read a book and I never even felt it hit, I just woke up in my chair 2.5hrs later. I felt great though and slept like a baby. Great for back pain.
#3: ~300g wet. Not much smell. In the dryer! 80g dry.
