Seedling stage, just broke through the coco the other day. The kosher took a little longer to pop but already has a larger set of first leaves than the 707.
Moving right along after about 1 week. Good root development and more new growth every day. I think I had my light just a little too close so I backed that off a bit and pushed up the strength of my nutrient solution. Onward!
This was transplant week. I typically do one transplant into the final container. The kosher kush, as it turns out, is a light feeder. She was going through some nitrogen toxicity and I had to cut her feed in half. She seems to be bouncing back now. The 707 is a very hearty girl and seems happy no matter what I do. Will let them go a bit longer and then start a little training.
It was time to top these ladies and in a strange twist, the 707 had already topped itself. It’s always been a mutant of a plant with 3 leaves often growing out at each node and now two mains without a topping. Very strange. The kosher continues to be a light feeder and I’m still trying to dial her in. At this point I’m working to get 8 mains per plant and then I’ll flip.
I’m a little behind on the updates but a lot has been going on. First, the kosher is finally getting over her nitrogen toxicity. It was a battle. I flushed her with plain pH’d water and then gave her a light dose of nutrients. Then she finally started using more of her nitrogen after I moved the light a little closer. She got another watering with just plain water a couple days ago and then I’ll feed again on the next watering. Will be going with a plain water every other watering schedule with her until I have a reason to feed more.
As for the 707, she is a freak. She basically topped herself, but then on one side she has 3 leaves at each node and when I topped that side, I got 3 new mains. So now there’s a total of 5 new tops growing in, and then I’ll top those so I get 10. Super weird growth though. She seems to have a natural tendency to grow into a bush which is cool. I bet she would be awesome outdoors.
Been a couple weeks but I’m finally ready to flip these girls to flower. It took some time to get the kosher recovered from nitrogen toxicity and get her to use all the nutrients in the medium. Since then she’s been getting a little less than 1/3 strength nutrients. The 707 is getting 1/2 strength and both plants told me they need a dose of cal mag. Next update will be in flower and I’ll switch to my 600 watt HPS bulb.
Things are just rolling along now and the first week of 12/12 is done. This is my first grow with the 600 watt HPS but I’ve got the extra heat managed now. I don’t expect much of a yield from the kosher at this point but I’ve been wrong before about that. The 707 is pretty happy and I’ve trained her to have 10 tops because of her one mutant side that has 3 growth tips at each node. I topped the kosher twice so she’ll have 4 tops. Once buds start forming I’ll get some non-HPS pics.
Both plants are now producing flowers and are almost done stretching. I’ve thinned out the canopy twice now on the 707 headband and I’ll do one last defoliating session at the end of week 3. I removed a few leaves from the kosher, but there’s just not a lot to remove right now.
Both plants were looking a little over fed, so I backed off their feed a little. I also realized I wasn’t getting enough runoff when I was watering to help prevent nutrient buildup. These issues have hopefully been corrected now.
Just following the feeding schedule, which for this week eliminated Tiger Bloom and reintroduced Grow Big. I’ve backed off the feed for both plants in the last week and that seems to be paying off, along with making sure I get plenty of runoff when I feed.
I did the final major defoliation for both plants since we are at the end of week 3. I will probably remove other leaves here and there if they are blocking the light to other flowers but I’ll mostly just be letting them go from here on out.
Some nice frost is already forming on the 707 and she is clearly the star of this show so far. The kosher still looks like it will be a very light yield but it’s also more of a 10 week strain and a lot can happen in 6-7 weeks. Looking forward to seeing how these flowers stack up.
Just kind of cruised through this week and hopefully through the next 5-6 weeks as well. I know I said I was done defoliating, but the 707 needed another thinning out this week as well. She is starting to stack up the weight a little bit now, and defoliating should only assist that.
The kosher definitely looks like it’s about a week behind in its flower production, but I’m still expecting a low yield. Hopefully the end product is at least good if the yield is low. She is only getting 1/8 strength nutrients and still looks a little tiny bit over fed. She responds well to the occasional watering of just plain pH’d water with maybe a little cal mag. I’m going to try taking cal mag out next watering since that also has a bit of nitrogen. Might just do the trick.
I’m continuing to remove leaves here and there on the 707, and I thinned out the kosher today as well. The kosher is finally starting to fill in some more, and I dropped her feed to just the Fox Farm flower nutes and dropped the Grow Big altogether. Seems to be going better with her now. This is the end of week 5, and I think I’ve got about 4 weeks left on the 707 and probably 5 weeks left on the kosher. Hopefully it’s all gravy from now until harvest!
Have switched entirely to the fox farm flower nutrients (tiger bloom and big bloom), and some cal mag for the 707. The 707 headband has a little purple coming in on the leaves. Pretty sure this is just a genetic expression for this plant but I did push the level of P in her diet just in case. The kosher is still just lacking in the yield department. When I run it again I’m hoping for a better pheno. Finished with week 6, so I think I will start the flush for the 707 toward the end of week 8, and the kosher the following week.
This was a tricky week, and at least one mistake was made with the 707 headband. I had dropped the Fox Farm Grow Big out of her feedings, and I’m not sure if this was the cause or if this is just when she wanted to start changing colors but she immediately started to turn a dark purple on her leaves. I know this is a genetic expression for this strain but it seems a little soon. Also, thinking she might want more P in her diet, I increased her dose of Tiger Bloom, but it looks like that burnt her a bit more than she already was. My fault there for sure. I should know better. Anyway, added Grow Big back and will keep going for one more week before I start the flush. She is 2 weeks from chop day.
As for the kosher kush, she never liked N in her diet and seems fine with just the Fox farm Tiger Bloom as her main source of nutrition. She showed the very beginning of a magnesium deficiency this week so I added a dose of that to her solution this week. She’s swelling now and has about 3-ish weeks to go before chop.
I started the flush on the 707 Headband yesterday and I will chop her on day 62 or day 63 of flowering which will be next weekend. I feel like she could be chopped today at 8 weeks but I also have seen more trichomes mature in the last week. I’m following HSO’s recommendation of 9 weeks as I don’t have a scope to really see the trichomes.
Shortly after my last update the Kosher Kush had some leaves curl in and she looked a little too yellow. It looks like this was a K deficiency so I added Fox Farm Grow Big back into her diet and this seems to be better now. She will get chopped in 2 weeks on day 70 of flower.
Next two updates should be exciting. Next week will be the harvest for 707, and the following week will be harvest for the Kosher.
Overall this strain was pretty easy to grow and stood up to most of my mistakes, and there were a lot of mistakes on this run. I did find the odd seed here and there while trimming on lower buds, which is for sure my fault and not that of the genetics. The tops all look great though. I’m reasonably sure I was overfeeding her for most of the grow and she got burnt later in flower which may have caused the few seeds/herm flowers I found. I didn’t see any nanners though and I think this strain could really be dialed in if you don’t over feed like me.
One thing I will add is that I didn’t buffer my coco this time with a cal mag solution when I rehydrated it. This was a mistake and caused lots of problems up to and including over feeding and deficiencies. So any new or aspiring coco growers out there, please please please treat your coco with cal mag prior to putting plants in it. You will thank me later, and you’re welcome.
I will update with more pics once the dry and cure are complete.
This was also one of the prettiest plants I’ve grown with the deep purple leaves just before harvest. I’ve got 2 more seeds of this strain and will definitely run it again.
I am living proof that this plant can take a lot of abuse. She got over fed by me a bunch of times and yet she still came out looking super dank in the end. If I had the same pheno again I would veg it longer and go for 8 tops and keep the feed low. I’ve got 5 more seeds of this strain and I’m sure there are better yielding phenos in there. I’m really not sure of lollipopping her more would have increased the yield and I became worried that I wouldn’t have much of anything if I did cut more side branches off the bottom. Anyway, looks dank and I can’t wait to try it out. Chopped her at day 70 of flower but I bet she could have gone a little longer. She didn’t fade too much during the 7 day flush either. Looking forward to running this one again.
