This seeds took a day longer than my space cookies seed. It just cracked the surface.
My plan for this plant is to veg for about 2 weeks under mh and then switch to flower under hps for week 3. I am using a limited amount of living soil and I want the plant to complete its life cycle without requiring any additives. I will probably mess around a bit with some organic inputs during this grow though anyway ( korean natural farming, and also probably compost teas). Anyways I'm running three different journals this time around so I will try to provide as much detail as I have time for
Day 4: trying out some natural farming inputs. Fed with diatomaceous earth and fermented plant juice.
Day 5: finally got some clover seeds to create a green mulch to protect the soil
Day 7: fed some sprouted alfalfa seed tea.
Day 17: switched over to hps and will be switching to 12-12 soon
Day 18: realized I may have overwatered this one.
Day 20: looks like she's Already recovering now that she's dried out a bit.
Day 23: switched to 12/12 to start the flowering process. She has started to show some healthy new growth after last weeks over watering.
Day 25: something is not right with this plant. Pulled from tent and put back in veg.
Day 54: pulled out the clover green mulch layer so I could top dress with gaia green power bloom. Green mulch seemed like a good idea at the time but if you want to top dress your kinda screwed.
Day 62: well, I'm pretty happy at this point. She seems to have recovered fine from earlier problems and is shaping up beautifully. Nice evenly sized buds and shaping up to be pretty sticky.
Day 74: here's where things start getting a little wonky again. I discovered the fan in the tent had fallen down and was blowing full tilt on my buds all night. All the leaves around the top developed a bit of crispiness around the edges.
Day 77: buds look fine, however, maybe a bit mature looking for 5 weeks of flower. Leaves around top seem to be showing the extent of the damage caused by the fan.
Day 80: I'm starting to think that maybe there is more going on here than wind burn. Ok google....
So could be possibly a serious calcium deficiency, maybe root root? I'll start with calmag as I have been using RO water without calmag.
Day 83: watered with a dose of calmag the other day and the progression of the ugly leaves seemed to stop.
This is a short final week for this lady. She's pretty much done as there hasn't been to much change over the last week and the trichomes are looking good. I am glad I was able to hold off the deficiency long enough that it shouldn't effect the appearance of the buds.
I am so glad I have more seeds of this variety. I did not do it justice this time around. Considering that I over watered, topped/flowered to soon, wind burnt, and underfed her, she made some very lovely nugs. The fact that she didn't die, or hermie at all is a good sign this is a stable strain. The smell is strong, however, at this point at the start of curing, I find it to be like a very strong skunk with like a smokiness about it, kind of like how a glass of scotch has a smokiness to it. Paradise lists it as a fruity sweet type of strain, so I'll have to see what it's like after curing. Also the trouble I put her through may have caused a change in the terpene profile. The buds are super frosty and dense, though small, and i am very excited to try this. I must wait at least two weeks for curing to take place from today (may 5 2020).
So I couldn't wait. 11 days in the jar curing and I couldn't take it anymore. Cracking the jars a couple of times a day and just getting nailed with its perfume was to much. The smell has settled and is less smoky and more wood like with sweet but pungent skunky undertones to it. The smoke is great, nice and smooth and rich in flavour, and the high is clear, but very mellow and happy.
So four months have passed now and the cure is at its peak. The smell has changed and is a realllly seductive juicy sweet smell. I was not expecting this amount of flower to last this long but I'm glad I still have it. The terpene profile now has completely changed and is just so good. The effects still seem the same. Very indica. Almost entirely body but also doesn't make me sleepy. This is my new love. Great job paradise!!
I'll have to start another plant now, as I'm not sure what I got out of this is going to last me very long.
The only reason I gave this plant 9 stars is because it was not quite as resilient as the space cookies plant that was treated the exact same way. That plant had zero issues. Californian gold needs to be treated with a bit more gentle hand, which is fine but that point loss is for less ease of growth.

Week 3-4 46 watts cfl (recovery time)

Cal mag
Molases
Sprouted seed tea
Fermented fish amino acids
Fermented plant juice (spinach)
Water soluble calcium phosphate ( derived from chared bones in rice vinegar)
What I learned this grow:
Pay attention to the soil,don't overwater.
A living green mulch is great, unless you want to top dress your soil.
Don't forget to calmag your RO water (though, that same issue didn't affect my other plant. Different needs perhaps.)
Check soil ph and ph water as well. ( once tested I realized my water was incredibly alkaline and my soil was over 7)
Trust in the soil. I have a feeling that if I didn't mess around with this plant so much that it would probably have turned out a better yield.
I'm very happy with the quality of the buds. They are pretty uniform, a decent size, and the density is spot on.
Looking forward to growing this one again.
I did an indoor grow with this strain and grew it out without topping or any training as I usually do for first time runs and under 1000 watt HPS only got about 40" after final stretch and buds were dense but spread out between nodes. Good smoke though. Great job 👍
@Obitrice, this plant wasn't very happy with what I was doing with it so I got a pretty low yield of smallish buds. They are dense and tasty though and this is the first plant I've grown that actually finished ripening within 8 weeks of flowering. I will be trying again👍
