Excited to try out some new genetics this time around and will be growing Niagara's Own Seed's version of Wedding Cake:
Sometimes called Pink Cookies as Wedding Cake is a cross between Cherry Pie and Girl Scout Cookies, very tangy sweet earth and a little bit of vanilla. Be forewarned it’s very potent, due to high THC content up to 25% plus.

Dropped the seed 10 days ago in a glass half filled with carbon-filtered tap water. After 24 hours moved the seed to a pete plug and put her in the root farm seed starter with about 1/4" of filtered tap water. The seed cracked within 24 hours of being dropped in the plug. Today I moved the seedling into her net pot in the pickle bucket - the local sub shop sells off their 5-gallon pickle buckets for $3 when they're done with them. Sweet deal! Hopefully, no dill flavoured terpenes coming through in the final product. 😉
Setup
--------
Tent: 32 x 32 x 63
Light: Mars Hydro TS1000
Pump: VIVOSUN 332 GPH Air Pump 14W
6" inline fan and carbon filter
Bucket: "Big Red" 5 gallon pickle pail. The bucket is wrapped in heavy duty plastic to block light from penetrating - the inside of the plastic is black to help block light and the outside is white to reflect the light and help keep water temps cooler. It was a super cheap solution proposed by the guy at my local hydro shop and works well enough.
Looking forward to 'Wedding day'.
This is day one of week two. She's cruising along. Roots started showing about two days ago. Been giving her top feedings throughout the week.
Today I noticed the temperature in the tent was about 80 F - normally its 72 F during the day. Discovered my exhaust fan wasn't moving any air out the tent. Fan turned out to be working ok but the outer pre-filter on the outside of the carbon filter looked a bit dirty. Removed it, vacuumed it off, put it back on and air is moving again. Hopefully that's the end of it - not sure if a replacement of the larger carbon filter is imminent at this point or not. Can anyone speak to the life expectancy of these things? I would have thought I'd get at least 2 years out of it - the one I have is only a year old.
She's growing nicely with no problems. The air filter issues I was having were are related to the ultrasonic humidifier I introduced to the tent. Stupid me ran it with tap water and as a result it was throwing off white dust which quickly clogged my carbon filter. Another le$$on learned. I replaced the filter and air is moving as it should again. Will use demineralized water in the humidifier from here on in but I have it shut down for the moment.

Day 19: growing well with those monster elephant ear fan leaves starting to develop. Thought I'd try my hand at FIMing this time around so I pinched off 2/3 of the top above the 3rd node today. I diluted her feed a wee bit as her PPMs have been running slightly high through the week and her leaf tips are a tad wilted - perhaps a bit too much N.
A week of hulking up for the wedding cake. She's growing really well. She was clawing up a bit at the ends of her leaves - likely too much N - so I diluted her feed and she's starting to look better. Rez change today and decided to go with something a bit lighter than my usual "1/2 strength" regime and gave her a 1 gallon dose of nutes in the 3.5 gallon of filtered water she gets.
I FIMed her 3 days ago (thought I'd try something new) and she's recovering very well with new growth already coming up. Her roots are growing in really well and looking white and healthy. Hoping for another smooth week.
------
Day 25: Haircut day. Removed the Jurassic fan leaves to open up the new growth to the light.
It took her a few days to recover from last week's FIMing and defoliation and she see was looking a bit better so I decided to punish her some more and removed everything below the third node. She has some clawing on her leaves and I'm thinking it shouldn't really be an issue with N as she's really being fed lightly. Could be wind burn? A reaction to the FIMing?- it does seem to be the leaves that were impacted by the FIM that are looking a bit wonky. I'll keep my eye on her.
---------
Day 33: the Wedding Cake is looking a bit more tasty after being allowed to recover from the last round of defoliation. It's been interesting to watch the result of the FIMing exercise - a lot of gnarliness I must say. We'll see what becomes of her.
The less is more feeding regime has been very agreeable with this girl. Very easy week with pretty steady PH/PPMs; no big adjustments have been necessary. PH has been around 6.1 and PPMs have been 375-400 range. She's filling out again after the last round of defoliation. I'll give another little trim before flipping the light later this week.
-------
Day 38: some light defoliation today as we prepare for the flowering stage. Flipped the light to 12/12 and gave her a rez change. Still going with 1/3 of the nutes recommended by the GHE feeding chart - she seems more than cool with that. Time for a stretch.
👰🏻🎂 D43 - Start of Week 7: flipped the light a few days ago to 12/12 on day 38. Gave her some light defoliation prior to the change to open things up a bit. Her PH and PPMs have been holding very steady throughout the week and I'm following through on the 1/3 strength diet I've been feeding her with today's rez change. I do give her a little extra CalMag however. She's been easy, peasy for the most part. No complaints 👍
Thanks for checking in. Comments/suggestions always welcome.
👰🏻🎂 Day 50 - start of week 8:
Another pretty easy week for the Wedding Cake. PPMs and PH were pretty stable again throughout the week: PPMs have been running pretty solidly in the 450 range with PH averaging around 6.1.
Plucked off a good batch of leaves yesterday as she heads into flower; she started showing signs of pre-flower this week and is just starting to stretch.
Switched up her diet with the rez change today and have added Liquid KoolBloom to the mix this time around. I'm still treading on the light side as far as dosage goes but she seems to be getting everything she needs.
I hope everyone is keeping well in these difficult times. Be good to one another. Thanks for checking in.✌️☮️
👰🏻🎂 D57: Start of week 9
The Wedding Cake is riding easy. She certainly hasn't stretched as much as her tent mate, the Grape Ape - she may be a little behind or perhaps she just won't stretch as much. In any event, I raised her bucket up just so I could get her canopy a little more even with the Ape and closer to the light. She's been drinking a feeding more and more - giving her 1/2-2/3 gallon of water with nutes every other day. She seems happy and healthy and I expect to see a little more stretching out of her this week.
Thanks for checking in ✌️
👰🏻🎂 D64: Start of Week 10
She's growing very well and looking healthy but I was really expecting more of a stretch out of this girl in the past week - she only grew a couple of inches. With the other plant in my tent growing over 12" during her stretch I've had to boost up the height of the Wedding Cake's bucket to get her canopy more even with the other and closer to the light. We"ll see what happens this week.
Thanks for checking in. ✌️
👰🏻🎂 D71 - Start of Week 11
Another pretty easy week for the Wedding Cake. Her stretch was short and sweet; she topped out at 21" - much smaller than the Grape Ape that's growing beside her that stretched to 35". She's looking strong and healthy; eating and drinking very well. EC running about 1/1.1 (PPM 550-675) and PH pretty steady around 6.2. She had a lot of thick undergrowth (a result of the FIMing?) so I did some defoliation, including the removal of a few leaves and lower branches/bud sites a few days ago on day 67. Looking forward to seeing some fat buds and frosting on this cake in the coming weeks.
Thanks for checking in ✌️
👰🏻🎂 D78-Beginning of Week 12
Another steady week for this girl. Buds are starting to bulk up a bit and trichomes starting to appear. She's getting a little more fragrant - peppery and spicy at this point. She's getting more of an appetite and I've upped her feed a bit throughout the week. Gave her another little round of defoliation a few days ago - cleared out some growth growing to the inside of the plant to keep the bud nourishing beams pouring through. Decided against doing a rez change today - she had a top-up yesterday and seems happy... and I feel lazy. LOL.
Thanks for checking in ✌️
👰🏻🎂 Day 85 - Start of Week 13
This little girl keeps cruising along with no issues. Buds are continuing to develop and she's getting quite sticky. Did a little plucking of some of the big fan leafs to keep light and air moving through the canopy. Her fragrance is starting to shine through - vanilla, cherries and spice.
She got a rez change yesterday - cut out the Grow and Diamond Nectar. She's getting a little more Bloom and KoolBloom now.
I think she still has about 3 or 4 more weeks until harvest. Lot's of time for the candles on this cake to get plump and frosty.
Thanks for checking in ✌️
👰🏻🎂 Day 92 - Start of Week 14
Another solid week for the Wedding Cake. Her candles are getting stickier and more fragrant by the day and getting covered in frosting. She still has a lot of time to ripen and fatten up. I think she's still 2-3 weeks away from harvest at least. Her PPMs were rising slightly towards the end of this week so I adjusted her feed accordingly. Rez change today and I lightened her feed slightly. Gave her a round of light defoliation; removed some of the older large fan leaves growing towards the inside of the plant - my fingers were super sticky after pinching off a few leaves and smelling like cherries and vanilla. Can't wait to taste this one.
Thanks for checking in ✌️
👰🏻🎂 Day 99 - Start of Week 15
The Wedding Cake continues to cruise along. Her nutritional needs are decreasing by the day with her PPMs rising slightly throughout the week. I've noticed some slight yellowing on the leaf tips so she only got a couple of very light top-ups during the week. I topped her with only PH balanced water today. She was running in the 600 PPM range and I brought her down under 500 today.
The candles on this cake continue to get fatter and the fragrance is getting much stronger - cherries and vanilla. She's got a lot of shag and I've been pinching off a few leaves throughout the week. She's sticky AF; like crazy glue on my fingers.
I think she has at least two weeks to go before harvest at least. I'll wait patiently.
Thanks for checking in. ✌️
👰🏻 🎂 Day 106: Start of Week 16 - Week 9 of Flower
The Wedding Cake is doing great. Rez change today, fed her lightly, bringing her PPM down to around 400 for the start of the this week.
Buds are ripening, getting fatter and stacking beautifully. More and more orange hairs showing on the buds now too. Looks to me like she'll need to go another 2 weeks before she's ready for harvest - hmmm. I think I said 2 more weeks last week. She'll be ready when she's ready. Oh the waiting. 😉
Thanks for checking in. ✌️
👰🏻🎂 Start of Week 17 - Day 113
A couple of amber trichomes started to appear so I started the flush this morning with PH balanced filtered water and Dutch Nutrients Clear. She's packed on a bit of weight over the past week and is covered in a fair bit of frosting - as a good Wedding Cake should be. She is looking and smelling delicious. Glad it's finally nearly over. The next batch of ladies are waiting patiently in the wings.
Thanks for checking in. ✌️
👰🏻🎂 Start of Week 18 - Day 120
The Wedding Cake is taking her sweet time getting to the reception but we're getting close. Trichomes are cloudy throughout but I'd like to see some amber appearing in the lower bud sites before I take her down. She's looking very pretty as her leaves continue to fade and her buds have a developed a nice pink hue.
PH adjustments and plain water top-ups are all she got this week. I'll let her ride a day or two more before harvesting - the next batch is waiting in the wings and I'll need to move them into the tent soon.
Thanks for tuning in. ✌️
👰🏻🎂
The Wedding Cake was a pleasure to grow. She was pretty low maintenance and didn't really give me any trouble at all. I tried my hand at FIMing this time around and was pretty pleased with the results. I didn't really know what to expect but she ended up with a nice shape and her buds stacked up really well. Definitely one of the best smelling plants I've had in my tent so far - I just loved the cherry-vanilla fragrance that wafted off her in flower.
Her buds ended up to be quite decently sized, although perhaps a little less dense than I was hoping they would be. Nonetheless, the buds are quite sticky and fragrant and pack a mean punch so how can I be mad about that?
I'll definitely bake some Wedding Cake again. She's welcome in my buckets anytime.
