Been a bit of a nightmare start to the run... Basically stunted all the seedlinds in the tent, including the 3 seedsman NL. Since they were sick I decided to experiment and get out my home made DWC bucket. Wow. The recovery of DWC compared to coco is night and day... I'm new to DWC and only dabled a bit on my last grow with little success compared to coco, but the proof is in the pudding. Anyways, the rest are in coco and are slowly recovering. In case I cant get this run happening I've germinated 3 Blue Dream and 3 White OG Photoperiods. In this case I'm hoping to take a bunch of clones from them before flipping to flower.

Been a bit of a nightmare start to the run... Now all starting to recover. DWC is doing really well. I'm pretty sure it will be my saving grace in regards to the first plant to harvest. I've got 3 oz to smoke between my significant other and myself until I'm predicting a harvest of some sort. That practically equates to 1gr per day... I'm prentry confident I can produce some smokeable bud in 3 months, but I will deffinately have to baby the dwc to get there. Daily PH correcting and fairly frequent reservoir changes. Thinking to LST soon.

Dwc bucket going well. Showing a pistil here and there. Defoliated a couple of leaves to allow better light penetration to the canopy. Was thinking to LST but it seems to be doing just fine... The other seedsman NL is sitting in a small 1L pot, as I'm planning to gift it to a friend who's interested in growing. A friend in need is a friend in seed!

It's week 2 flower and it's coming along... Can't LST as the tent is only so big and this Nothern lights is leaning over all the other plants like the elephant in the room. Vigorous growth... I'm expecting it to keep blooming. Looking to switch to DWC only in the near future and have 4 x buckets in the tent. Just defoliated a bunch of leaves to allow better light penetration to the middle and lower canopy. As I'm new to DWC and have been mastering it, looking for mentors to throw questions at from time to time... Specifically DWC/hydro related.

It's coming along now... Few days ago the pistils on the plant seemed to be little bit brown, changed the nutes with a fresh mix and it's seemed to have perked up again. Been defoliating a bit, but unsure if I should go all the way and remove most of the fan leaves? Some do, but from what I heard you leave as many fan leaves as practical, and to only defoliate fan leaves blocking bud sites, or the ones allowing poor air circulation to the plant, ie overcrowding. Anyways, my main concern is how much darker this plant is to the rest of the plants. Can anyone shed some light into this? Update - a big shout out to all the growers who answered my grow question. Took all your advice into consideration... Just changed the Res, cut the excess nitrogen and just fed mostly PK elements with added Cal Mag. Also the air lines were twisted from the pump and could not pump enough air into the bucket. Might have been like that for at least 12-24 hrs... Feel like since acting on those changes this morning it's already made a difference. Will update soon.

Grow Questions

Hey guys, this NL auto is very dark compared with the other plants. Also had some spots on the leaves, but I did a Res change and defoliation of sick, bud site blocking leaves. Could it be a Cal-Mag deficiency? I was thinking nitrogen toxicity but no clawing of leaves.

Yes it would be a calcium deficiency at a early stage but can't be sure , you'r not running into a N toxicity to me BUT your plants are dark green so no problems if you cu a bit on the N in your feeding , of course purple light are well known to induce dark green foliage ( I've experimented it ((depending on the spectrum)) so it could be simply due to that fact. You' on the way and these issues are minor but can still be corrected. Free advice , in my opinion you can feed with a 1.8ec solution without seeing signs of over feeding

Well.... since my last post I had leaf issues which I corrected somewhat, but since then it has been pump issues.... The result, dreaded root rot. Luckily buds have developed ok, so if I had to chop her I could, but what I did from last post was install my high powered air pump, cut out organic nutrients (Bio diesel) and put in double the amount of air to overpower the root rot and get new roots going. Seemed to have kept the plant going until now. Decided tonight that all roots that haven't recovered since then had to be removed... Pretty shit job honestly, but I would be interested to see how it recovers after removing most of the dead bits. If it doesn't recover, harvest time.... Regardless it will be harvest time soon anyways. What I've learnt, don't listen to the grow shop guys telling me that basic aquarium pump will be ok... DWC needs more air if you wanna do it right, and it prevents things like root rot if you have all your other things in place. Once the roots got big, with the small pump I noticed it was a down hill battle. I've also well-designed new DWC buckets for next round with lots of high powered air stones, and will be investing in microhaiza.... etc

Since I last posted the NL has been recovering from me removing most of her infected roots, I pumped her with double the amount of air and stones, and just kept up with the normal routine. There was deffinately root recovery but it was a battle. I was skeptical the buds would fatten and grow properly, but it seems they grew alright as the days progressed. I'm used to growing under LED so it's been a change growing with HPS.... Pretty intense lighting, but deffinately noticing a difference flowering with HPS. Many things I have learnt from this round, as it's been my first real attempt at DWC. Every now and then there are growers out there who can inspire you, and even change the way you grow, and move you in the right direction. I need to give a big shout out to BigDaddyK on this platform.... Basically you have inspired me as a grower to change the way I do things, and when I was a bit lost on my bucket design (see photos) I would ask a few simple questions and you gave me your advice. Thank you brother... Because of your input I've changed my bucket designs which were driving me crazy, and we're never going to work in the long run anyway... Ive named my first bucket after you (I will nickname all my buckets) so I will remember how they got to that stage. Other buckets will get nicknames as well to distinguish between what plants are growing in which buckets Also got me thinking about my sanitation and my meters.... My PH meter and EC/PPM meter are cheap chinese junk... Had them for almost a year, just a matter of time before it fails and I would probably never know... Out with the old and in with the new, I've ordered some new gear to replace the shit stuff. Much going on... Despite co-vid challenges I'm planning to build a purpose built room specifically for growing... 3.3 meters x 4 meters. Wife seems to be ok with it, as I will give her a new office next to it. ;) I feel like a kid in a candy store looking at new lights, tents, products.... Onto the plant, have given her PhD water for last 3 days, chopping her down tonight, thus the post... Will post an update on yield once dried.
