TheBudWhisperer Week 1 (redux) - well the first girl of this strain shit the bed due to light leaks... again. We used the shitty translucent air hose that came with the new air pump and might as well have installed a small flashlight inside the res. 🙄 Roots completely rotted out. New bean into the rooter today and we’ll try this yet again. The margin for error with hydro is pretty slim, especially for this dumbass pothead😉😎🤞. Feb. 27 update - well she’s up and roll’n... again. Gonna give er another go and see what happens. If the roots rot out again then we’re not escaping the higher temps issue and will have to try a cooler or something as a res. 🤞🤞🤞 Mar. 3 update - roots not yet at the res. But all factors accounted for. Stable ph/ec, no light leaks, frozen water bottles to mitigate temps. She’s on the grow solid now. Well take it another 5-7 days before the first res. TheBudWhisperer Week 2 update - it seems that weeks 2/3 are the defining, nail-biting moments when it comes to my hydro grows. After she shit the bed on the first go, we’ve now addressed and/or rectified every conceivable thing that could go wrong: Light leaks - covered every damn source I could find/think of including silicone covers for the hydroton rocks and net pots themselves. Nute mix - cut out the hydroguard completely. We’re gonna try to run a clean room style res. With H202 instead. Seems to be working for the sapphire scout so if it ain’t broke.... Temps - this is really the only factor that could be an issue. Been keep’n temps down with frozen water bottles twice a day. It wasn’t required in later stages on the last successful hydro grow and is just for the sake of eliminating all potential limiting factors. Either way - if she shits the bed with root rot again then we’ll have to look at utilizing a cooler or something for a res. Just to keep the solution that much colder. There would be no other potential reason for our issues to date. Now we hold our breath for the first res. Change and pray that we finally have this system dialed in. TheBudWhisperer Week 3 update - we are officially 24 hours through the first res. Change and I’m happy to say she’s responded very well. this is always where my plants shit the bed but this one is lookn like my best yet🤞. Roots are developing very well and she was juuust ready for a FIM. We’ve lost the blueberry seedling which was essentially DOA (thankfully not system related) and now it’s about catching up to the sapphire scout. We’ll leave er about a week to recover from the FIM and then launch off for flower if all goes well👍 Upp’d the nute mix slightly as she was look’n a tad pale. Alls good and updates will follow as she recovers this week. Mar. 13 update - and wouldn’t you know it.... spotted a little bit of brown gunk o one of the roots this morning while doing the ice pack change🤬. I know that bs when I see it by now. This time, I delicately cleaned it off and spiked the solution with a direct hit of another 5ml H2O2 in the hopes that it can counteract any further pythium buildup. It’s gotta be the temps. That’s the only thing that makes sense by now. Well see how she fares and keep a close watch over the weekend. Mar. 14 - no more brown gunk. Probably not root rot and I’m just high and paranoid again. Things are look’n good. Bent over the stem today to start the branching foundation. It’s amazing what such a small adjustment like this does to the plants development - especially after a FIM. In a few weeks we’ll have a mass of mains pumpn out some bad ass buds👍😎. We’ll be move’n pretty quick from here on out people. Should be a good test of min. Veg. Time in hydro. TheBudWhisperer Week 4 update - well impatience got the best of us and we’re not waiting any longer to launch flower. It would’ve been preferable to give this girl another week to veg. But her neighbour ain’t waiting for er anymore😉. She’s juuuuust barely shown signs of a full recovery from the FIM and while we’re still waiting to see how many mains we’ll pull out of it, the effect on the side branches is already very noticeable. Regardless of number of mains, I consider a FIM successful when the stem starts swelling to the side branches like this (see stem photo). Crazy that only 3 weeks ago she was no more than a seedling and this shows just how fast you can get a plant growing to maturity in a hydro application👍. Despite what the book says, we’re holding on switching to bloom nutes and upp’d the grow nute dosage a little to give er that extra push through this 1st week of stretch. The root mass is incredible for 3 weeks - probably better than the sapphire scouts even at this stage. No rot, no light leaks, just a bit of nute staining and new growth every hour it seems. TheBudWhisperer Week 5 update - through the first week of the flip and she’s now starting to show signs of moving into transitional veg. No major issues have cropped up and all the readings - ph, tds etc. Are showing stable. I’m again having difficulty trusting that the browning of the roots isn’t root rot, but all signs point to a healthy plant (albeit, one that’s had its limits pushed in terms of stress and growth timelines). Probably just being fickle (and stoned) here - the roots have tripled in size and she’s definitely still growing healthy up top and we haven’t had any ph spikes that would indicate a contaminated res. We pruned out the larger fan leaves and now that the side branching has some legs, we lst’d most of em out towards the rim. This should spread things out somewhat as we move through the stretch. Upp’d the H202 concentration by 25% as a precaution. Also moved over to bloom base nutes on the last res. Change but dropped the concentration a touch as she was showing some very slight nute burn on her tips. Thanks as always for checkn er out - the fun part is about to begin👍👍😎. TheBudWhisperer Week 6 update - coming into week 3 of the stretch and I must admit, massive changes over the last week. It was hard to be positive given what I’ve put this poor plant through... if you’ve been following along, she wasn’t lookn so good a couple weeks ago and I still proceeded to put er through a fim and trim... all within 3 weeks of veg. Again, this is mostly for the sake of the neighbour plant which is a god damn beast, but whateves. This girls been Randy as hell though since she entered the stretch. She’ll definitely be squat but I expect very big things regardless. Root ball has again doubled in size and she’s loving the nute adjustment to slightly lower levels. We’ve bumped it this week and also added in Terpinator for a flowering boost. Against our better judgement we did prune back a little more at the start of the week to allow for max exposure. So far, a good decision it was - hehehe (que Star Wars/yoda reference). My thoughts go out to everyone trying to keep it sane right now. This BS virus has everyone shook but we will prevail eventually👍. Stay chill and blaze a fatty y’all. TheBudWhisperer Week 7 update - 4th week of flower and she’s really stsrt’n to blow out now👍. The leaves were all mottled together as each branch fought for its territory. We tied er down again and did some selective pruning to keep things airy. She’s responded incredibly well and has been praying to the light ever since👌. No change to the nute sched. For now - well look to up the base flower mix another 5ml next week. She’ll probably stretch a little more but first budlets def. starting to show. TheBudWhisperer Week 8 update - 5th week of flower and can’t be happier under these circumstances. It was always the hope that this one would’ve had the same amount of veg. Time as it’s neighbour but she shit the bed in her first 2 weeks and we had only just enough time to get another seed on the grow before it would be too late. Pretty amazing that this is a photo strain on only a 3 week veg. With a FIM thrown in to the mix😳. She’s taken the abuse and accelerated schedule like a champ. The root ball has really filled out and she’s still stretching north as she adds budlets at the same time. We’ve now run out of KIND Base so we’re supplementing with calmag instead. Not a major change and hopefully no ill effects from it🤞. I can’t wait to see this thing in full flower - spliffs photos of er are just delicious. All is still extremely well in here y’all. TheBudWhisperer Week 9 update - 6th week of flower and wow 🤩 - just bloody wow! This girls almost managed to catch up to her neighbour and that plants got twice the veg. Time under it😳. Either I missed an update last week or she’s grown another 4”! We’ve chopped her back as needed but still somewhat early in flower so trying to limit the defo And maintain foliage but still keep it light and airy in the canopy. The FIM seems to have paid off with 3 solid mains and some winner side branches. Just like the scout her stalks have broken the tie downs away from the lid💪 - like a bouws! Increased the nute sched. Slightly last week and we’ll keep the levels the same this week and look to drop it back a little next week. She’s fluff’n out like mad and the node spacing should see each cola stack buds right on top of one another. She’s also drinking Like a sailor on furlough- a couple litres every day. As long as nothing dumb happens this plant will be ready for chop in record time - faster and with better quality than any auto I’ve ever grown - literally by entire weeks😳. TheBudWhisperer Week 10 update - kickn off week 7 of flower and she still pushed up another 2.5” last week😳. Despite this, she’s still putt’n in work where it counts and the buds have started stacking like crazy. Huge, poofy and frosty - she’s fix’n to produce some football sized colas👍👌. Gotta think there’s still a good amount of flowering time left but the changes week to week are pretty insane so who knows at this point🤷‍♂️. Keeping the nute mix the same for this week and will be watching closely for any signs of an issue. We top off with the same concentration mix as well and it feels like we hit the sweet spot because the ppms still stay under 900 throughout The 10-12 days before we completely change out the res. I still can’t believe this plant is rivalling the sapphire scout now. Honestly can’t tell which one will do better anymore🤩😊😎. Hope everyone’s stayn safe and healthy👊. TheBudWhisperer Week 11 update - coming in to week 8 of flower and she’s still got a bunch more work left👌. Vertical growth has finally tapered off and she’s done a good job bulking out at the same time. The colas are rounding into what will be massive bud formations when she’s done😎🤙😎. She continues to drink about a litre or two each day and at this point it’s safe to say that she’ll likely outweigh the mainline sapphire next to ‘er 😳. I’m just amazed at how well this plant has done on a 3 week veg. Top notch genetics IMO👍. Alls good in da hood folks - we’ll be watching Close for the finish but I do expect another 2 weeks at least. TheBudWhisperer Week 12 update - we knew it was coming eventually with this plant. She had all the signs of a girl work’n on some fat buds. The last week has really seen ‘er bulk out and the all white hairs are starting to turnover as well. She’s still got some work to do for sure but we did claw back the calmag by half. Saw just the very slightest bit of yellow on the tips - might not even be burn but no sense in plugg’n the calmag further at this point. Just unreal buds on this thing - there’s buds inside the buds that have buds inside them.... I know, trippy eh? The smell is insane - sweet, gassy, almost fruity and def. stinky. The buds are dense as hell too👌. We’re not far off now but trich check suggests we’ve still got some more time before the chop. TheBudWhisperer Week 14 update - as anticipated, she’s got another week in er and that’s pretty much it. Our next post will be the harvest deets. What a grow!🤩💯💪👌. She’s purpled out really nicely and the buds are just dense, thick, juicy monsters. She stiiiiinks like mad too. The fruity scent really comes out and she’s smell’n tasty as hell. Trichs are saying we’re just days away with a little amber showing so the flush starts end of this week until she’s done👍. We’ve finally and truly crushed a hydro grow and couldn’t be happier🤟. TheBudWhisperer Medium: Look, I love coco/soil, organic/synthetic just as much as anyone. I’ve never really hated on any particular method and each has its uses depending upon the environment. That being said.... hydro is likely to be the predominant indoor method for us going forward. It ticks all the boxes that the average hobby grower is looking for. Maintenance is generally pretty easy, while I’ve found myself monitoring ph and tds more frequently, I’m still only mixing nutes once a week instead of three. The hassle factor is crazy mitigated here👍. From a sustainability perspective, nute consumption is wayyyy down, saving more dolla bills y’all! Added bonus is that veg. Growth rates are just insanely fast. From the moment she popped her head out to the start of week 4, this girl was fimmed, pruned, trained and flipped. She put out a full oz. more than the 6 week(v) mainline beside er😳. Now that is just straight amazing😎. The key advantages - BIG F$&K’N YIELDS and auto pilot care for up to 2 weeks. It is a little bit of a tricky medium but once you dial in the ratios - smooth sail’n the whole grow. I can focus on training/maintenance instead of feeding🤟🤟. If there’s a drawback to DWC it would be that I’d have concerns about leaving it for more than a couple days when she’s in full flower. They just drink so much that It’s a constant top off. All told, far and away the most effective and economical medium we’ve used😎. Method 🎚️🎚️🎚️🎚️🎚️ Under this COB light system, the best method to date has definitely been a mainline. It’s got so much canopy penetration that we’re pulling down 16” long colas packed with well developed buds. Here’s where strain, medium and method kinda collide though. This girl was on a hurry up and go schedule. We lost the first one to root rot and had to get this one off the ground and mature before the cycle sched. Was gonna flip. Not to mention it was totally screwing with our spring nursery timing too. She was fimmed once and then splayed with LST. Not much either - just enough to get er spread apart a little. So you combine ultra fast growth rates of hydro with a big yield strain like this on a fast paced training method that limits required recovery times... and you get this monster. Just a perfect grow that anyone would be extremely happy with. We used frozen water bottles In the res. twice a day throughout the grow. My issues with light leaks and temps are well documented and I’m constantly running up against one or the other as a hurdle. This plant was no different and she started to re-veg. In the last few days prior to chop. All due to a light leak from the cabinet beside this one that was running on an 18/6. Gonna have to plug some light holes prior to next grow. Other than that - she was amazing and the method here is getting an unusually high and very rare 5/5.😳 Yield/Harvest🌴🌴🌴🌴 The final number is just so sweet. 6.04oz and she veg’d less than a month. Overall, I could confidently say that’s both faster and better than most typical autos in general😳😎👍👌. Any time your rock’n out 5+oz is a good haul but in this kinda time frame - that’s just crazy. We let her go just a little longer (again, as per Spliff’s direction) and it was worth the extra patience. She’s dense as all hell and a nice add to the stash🤟.
