(I can't edit temp from 50F for some reason, its actually around 73F at this point) Hey everyone, my first real grow seems to be off to a good start. I'm using regular seeds so I'm hoping to get lucky with some females. The Oregon Huckleberry is originally Dynasty genetics. 2.5' x 2.5' tent. I'm going all organic, with Happy Frog for early veg, then a SoHum/Happy Frog/Roots Bloom mix after their final transplant. I noticed that the Huckleberry seeds are much bigger and probably thicker than any other beans I've seen. For this reason, I left them in germination for a good 4-5 days before the roots starting showing. One Huckleberry did not sprout, I may have planted it too deep (my bad). After the other two were a few days old I dug up a small bit of root and green stem from the solo cup. I have another Huckleberry in germination now to replace that one, as my limit here in IL is 5. After males get 'weeded out' I'm hoping to end up with at least 2 plants. -Map

(Still not sure why I can't edit temps) ...and the learning experience continues! But that's what this is all about, right? The Point Break is as yellowed, droopy and curly as ever on day 7 and it's not looking great. I didn't have high hopes for that plant in particular but it'd still be sad to see it go! Onto the problems with the Huckleberries and likely the P. Break too. I figured it was due one of the following: 1. I didn't put good enough drainage in the Solo cups/was watering too much and the roots were suffocating. 2. I waited too long to transplant and the roots were strangled. When I did transplant, both had roots wrapping around the bottom but not terribly. 3. My humidity was too low and killing my plants' growth. I do have a humidifier for the tent now and you'll see it in week 3! Gonna get RH up to 50% for veg. And what was likely the issue.... 4. I was using shit water that I thought would be good. I am now testing my water and using RO with a pH around 6.5. Goes to show preventative maintenance is always preferential to cleaning up stupid mistakes. That's about all for now everyone. -Map

Week 3 and the wild ride continues. I'm really enjoying this so far. I added a humidifier outside the tent this week. The higher humidity is dropping my temps a few degrees, so working on that will likely be my next goal. Any ideas? I transplanted the Huckleberries into their final homes, 3 gallon fabric pots. Soil is 2/3 Happy Frog and 1/3 SoHum. I'll be top dressing with some organic nutes after I flip to flower. The Point Break is starting to come back from my pH misstep. At this rate I'll be transplanting it into a 3 gallon of its own in a few days. Planning to top the Hucks once during week 4 and figure out if I want to do a Scrog or something else. I haven't trained the plants at all yet. -Map

The grow is coming along nicely. Topped them for the first time this week and growth is coming back well. None of the new growth has been discolored, the plants seem vigorous and smell great. On day 7 I added mixed in some worm castings to the top inch of soil and watered it through to hopefully provide a good balance of organic nutrients and avoid any more major issues. So far no signs of maleness, hoping I lucked out and ended up with three girls. May take some clones when I defoliate the lowers, anyone in northern IL need some? 😁 Other than that just trying to get through the Corona virus epidemic as things here in the States get more locked down. Supplies will be hard to come by the next few weeks. The inside of the tent is it's own world with no worries or stress. I'm loving this hobby more every day. -Map

No real issues to report for this week thankfully. As long as Covid misses us, we're good. I did very minor defoliation to the lower set of leaves on each Huckleberry, and up to the second set of leaves on the point break. These things are looking almost ready for flower! I'm putting in the Scrog net next week and will do more defoliation shortly after. As you can see, the Huckleberry on the left has some really wild growth coming from the lower nodes. -Map

Final week of veg for these! They have reached what should be their height limit, going to let them all get 2 to 2.5 feet tall hopefully. I added a net for some training and flipped to 12/12 on day 5. I sprinkled in some Roots Organic Bloom and watered on day 6. Not sure if I can call it a true ScrOG, but it's something. I can already see some tiny female parts forming more. Beginners luck with 3/3 being girls. Hell yes. I also did some heavy defoliation on day 7 to let the light shine through to the nodes. Can't wait to see some buds starting to form. -Map

First full week of flower in the bag, folks. Unfortunately my smaller plant turned out to be male! I caught it early and got it out of there. Still looking forward to what these two plants yield; one is definitely a female and the other isn't quite showing yet but has nothing that looks like the balls my other plant had. The taller plant got a bit of light burn, I didn't think my light was strong/close enough but it must have been. I've been making sure to move it up everyday. Hopefully will start to see some buds forming these next couple weeks. -Map

You can see in week 7 that the right plant has some underdeveloped/burnt leaves and yellowing towards the top. Does this look more like light burn or a nutrient problem? I fed with Root's Bloom at the beginning of flower.

That's not nute burning bud - you can tell because of the lack of uniformity. If it were nute burn you'd see the very tips of ALL the newer leaf growth start to go a little yellow. In your case, it's only presented on a localized area of the plant and it's also spotty across various fingers of the affected leaves which suggests that particular part of the plant is in a hot spot for your grow light. Makes sense given that the area in question is pretty much in the middle of your grow space. I'd run your light up a couple inches to 20"-24" from the canopy and you should be fine. She's still only in the 1st week of transition so she doesn't need to be blasted at close range just yet. Best of luck!👍

Pretty solid week of flowering, not a whole lot to report. The plant on the right seems to be a few days behind developmentally, but taller due to Pheno. If I had the additional grow space I would've tried cloning the plant on the left, seems like it's going to be a quick grower and good yielder. Getting ready to defoliate a final time in the next few days. -Map

Happy 4/20! Final defoliation took place on day 21 of flower and I couldn't be happier with the results. At least so far it seems to have helped many lower sites stretch up and have a fighting chance at bulking up. The mains on the left plant are blowing me away every day. It's stacking pretty nicely. Huckleberry on the right will hopefully get to the same level, but take a few days longer to finish. -Map

Trucking right along. The trichome production is impressing me a lot. From what I'm seeing/smelling this strain is going to be strong medicine. The plant on the left is showing its indica/blueberry lineage and is one of the best things I've ever smelled, like hashy, fruity berries. The plant on the right has finally finished its stretch and is showing more of a sativa influence in the structure and buds. Both phenos of this line of Oregon Huckleberry and represented in this grow. I think I'm going to like the indica leaning one a lot more, but I'm ready to be surprised by the other one too. I fed with a bit of Root's Organic Uprising Bloom on day 1 or 2 of this week. Keep on growing. -Map

Mmmmmm......gassy diesel berries coated in frost. I'm really liking what I smell. Barely need a loupe to see all of those trichomes but, I do have one on the way. Along with a hanging rack and trim bin. Hope I didn't jinx myself. The plant on the right which I previously thought less favorable of the two really came into it's own. By the looks of it there will be many branches with buds creeping all the way to the top and no stem showing through. (My nutrient schedule is actually ~1 tbsp of Root's Uprising Bloom every 4 weeks, I just don't like seeing that frowny face) -Map

Another week of flower in the bag. They smell and look great and are fattening up by the day. I'm hoping they really take off in bud size next week. The left plant smells like fruits and berries, almost tropical. The right plant has that berry but is much more subtle, with a little "candy" smell as well. Almost like skittles but not quite. I fed with 0.5 tbsp. of Grandma's Molasses per gallon of water on day 7. I plan to use it maybe one more time in flower as it has a lot of nutrients as well as sugars for the microbes, but I've heard that it can make bud taste too sweet if over used. I just wanted to try it and observe to see if there is any boost. The yield may not turn out to be what I was originally expecting but I'll be okay with that because it seems like the quality is be there. -Map

Watered with some more molasses, probably for the final time. Got some advice that the buds are doing fine and I'll need to upgrade my light to truly fatten them up. So I'm just letting nature take its course for the next week or two. There is maybe 3-5% amber on the left plant already, but none on the right plant. Looks like someone's getting chopped a little early because of limited grow space. At day 50 of flower now! -Map

It's getting hot and humid in IL, so for the remaining weeks of flower and through harvest I'll mostly be trying to control temps and humidity. Plants are overall looking pretty good, buds are still fattening up. Left plant has some more amber but mostly on the sugar leaves. Right plant has maybe 1 or 2 amber trichs here and there. Smells are getting better and stronger everyday, hashy, tropical skittles on the left and more sour skittles on the right. Hopefully the terp production benefited from the molasses, which fed the microbes. Here's to a few more weeks! -Map

Oregon Huckleberry was a pleasure to grow and is now a pleasure to smoke! Loud berry smell and taste. Pheno 1 leans Blueberry and Pheno 2 leans Morning Glory. I wish I could have gotten closer to that 1 gram per watt goal but I am pretty pleased with the yield I got. Next time I know to raise the nutrients a bit and possibly add more light. Looks like I can say goodbye to the dispensary for quite a while.
