2 plants for this grow. Started with FoxFarm Ocean forest in 1 gallon pots, top dressed with a couple teaspoons of glacial rock dust-- leaving enough space in the fabric pot to add more soil up to the cotyledons once those leaves start to die off. I will not transplant into a bigger medium. Larger pots would increase my yield, but I like to have a few smaller plants rather than 1 large one [in the event that one fails, I have a back up]. This is a closet grow but I have a photoperiod O.G. Kush plant in week 4 flower, a photoperiod C99 plant in 8 week flower, and another AUTO finishing its last week in the closet as well. If I timed my grows better, I could have had 4 Lowryder autos going at once, but I have settled on 2 for this grow. My autos come out from the 1500 LED COB lights when I have to flip the lights off for OG and C99's dark period, and they go under a 64w LED blurple light until the COBS come back on. No nutes other than some AN microbes, and no training techniques applied yet.
PLANT ONE: 3 1/4 inches tall, 2 sets of leaves [3rd set very apparent]
PLANT TWO: 21/4 inches tall, 2 sets of leaves [3rd set somewhat apparent]
Branches starting to show up at nodes between fan leaves and main stalk. Plant #1 is 6.5 inches tall and has 4 sets of leaves with a 5th set standing straight up. Plant #2 is 5 inches tall with 3 sets of leaves and the 4th set standing straight up. Started training Plant #1 with LST, this one seems to be growing faster. Also watered both with Epsom salt water for the extra cal/mag.
Gave first feeding of Sensi Grow A+B. I mainly use this to balance out my pH levels [essentially so I can be lazy and not pay attention to it] pH is really important for plant health and overall yields.
Accidentally topped Plant #1, so instead of being an inch and a half taller it is now an inch and a half shorter. I definitely snapped the top right off while doing some LST-- which I assume would now make this HST LOL. Sad because this plant had about 6 nodes already, topped it down to 2!! I need to learn to be more gentle.
In better news, the topped plant has some additional leaves starting in between at the uppermost node, so maybe I'll end up with 4 tops from this mistake. Assuming that the plant recovers in time for flower. I decided to pop a 3rd seed in case this plant becomes too stunted. Also this week another light came, so I'm running 2x 1500w COB LED lights but the actual wattage ends up being around 300w per light. I'm thinking of bumping up my fabric pots to a 2gallon next run because they should still fit fine in my grow space.
Plant 1 [which experienced some accidental topping at the end of week 2] seems to have recovered. 4 main colas appear to have formed but I've begun to LST the colas horizontally.
Plant 2, I've decided to LST a little bit but generally I'm not going to do anything to the plant and see how it grows. Currently tucking large fan leaves that are covering extending branches. Humidity is low but I'm spritzing the plants with water [mixed with potassium bicarb to prevent molds from growing in the moisture. This is also a good remedy for white powdery mildew and good at preventing it as well. Sprouted an additional seed this week just in case Plant 1 didn't make it but she's looking really healthy.
Flowering should be coming on soon
The lower fan leaves on Plant 2 [not topped] are getting to be a decent size. Height is at 14.4 inches approximately. Main cola seems to be off to a good start. Light LST on the lower branches
Plant 1 [topped] is really stretching out horizontally. Heavy LST on the 4 main-stalks [~12 inches ]. Putting the light closer to help promote more colas on the exposed branches.
- Feeding 1L room temperature water daily.
- AN's: Tarantula&GROW A/B &big bud mix once a week.
- Both plant's main-stalks are approximately 1.25 inches wide and sturdy.
- Generally healthy; no wilting/dead leaves, no discolouration etc.
- No defoliation on either plant, just leaf tucking.
In other news: the seedling has it's second set of leaves.
**Plant 1**
Quite a few prominent colas showing right now, so to keep them developing, I tied down the main branches AND some of the newly pronounced colas as well. All of the colas seem pretty even right now on this plant, so I can drop the LEDs lower. This is the topped plant and the main branches average ~13.5inches to the main stem. I haven't removed any leaves-- I am saving DEFOLIATION for my Grow2.5 diary that just started up.
**Plant 2**
Almost perfectly straight from the LST as a seedling. 17 inches in height. The main cola looks pretty long already + 4 lower branch colas. Removed small bud sides from the lowest 2 branches but otherwise I am going to leave this one alone.
NOTES:
-- Both plants' leaves start drooping near 6hour dark period time, and are nice and perky until lights out again.
-- ~2L of water daily [nutes in one feeding, once a week]
-- I could easily double-tier my closet grow if this method [at 5th node--top to 2nd] works, and have 2-3 plants on both tiers. Or at least have a little storage in the closet for grow related items.
-- Generally, the room still smells like chlorophyll but if you get close to the bud sites the slight smell of weed is there. Humidity levels have been sitting at 36% in the closet, so I'm going to tinker with that.
-- Overall, good growth this week. I'm really happy with how this run is going so far, even with the accidental topping
Cheers!👍
Plant 1 [topped]
- soil dries noticeably faster than other plant
- each main branch is ~15inches
- lots of bud sites
- currently formed buds are small and dense
- approx. 2[?] main colas and 8 secondary sites, very few popcorn sites [removed]
Plant 2 [natural]
- 17.5 inches tall
- few bud sites
- currently formed buds are large and dense
- 1 main cola, 8 secondary branches, no popcorn sites
Starting to smell less like a general a plant and more like weed in my grow space. Fed nutes 3/7 days, this week was the first week I introduced Bud Factor X and the last week for Tarantula. Added some glacial rock dust to the soil as a mid-grow fertilizer. Neither plant is drooping around "lights out" period anymore, both plants seem generally happy.
Very interested to see yield differences, if any!
Plant 1
Grew to 17.5 inches [was 15], and is now at the same height of the untopped LF. She's still stretching which is good because the bud size is really unimpressive. There are 2 main colas [fairly] and 11 sub-colas, so there are tonnes of bud sites. Seeing that she's still growing gives me a bit of hope. This plant is stinkier than Plant 2
Plant 2
Hasn't grown since last entry, but it's clear the plant is now filling out the buds. Some of the buds are dense already and the nodes are getting serious bulges for the anticipated weight gain. We'll see! Overall the shape of the plant is really nice. If the yield isn't much different on this strain, I don't think I will top. I played with the idea of topping every plant and then doing a 2 tier grow to really maximize my grow space, but I think I am happy with the shape and the lack of effort I have had to put into this plant. No defoliating, basically no LST... it was very stress free. The most hands off growing experience lol I did start to get some phosphorus deficiency. It's using a lot right now but this is also my second run in this soil. I definitely didn't fertilize enough but I cranked up my nutes and she's recovered almost fully.
Bud looks great, very dense. Plant 2 has the largest buds by far and is the densest. Plant 1 still has a lot of white pistils poking straight out so to me it looks like the topping did set it back about a week or 2. Plant 2 is very mature looking, may even be finished in the next week maybe 2... but Plant 1 will need to go a couple of weeks longer than her sister. Frost is just starting to appear in the last week
Both plants seem to be alright, but The issues with the fertilizer keep teetering back and forth. Probably won't reuse the soil from 1gal. grows, the soil gets far too leeched. I flushed and added some fertilizer but the run is only a few weeks away from being completed so I'm not going to try very hard to fix it. Just a mental note.
I got these autos so I could do a solo cup challenge, but I ended up growing them normally and just using these runs as experiments with topping [and other grow methods]
I don't think autos are my thing. I'd much rather be able to take clones, way more cost-effective.
