so this week has begun with four days of intense rain and no light. my plant hasn't grown much. the humidity brought an infestation of fungus gnats that I'm trying to cure with neem oil and adesive straps. Overall the situation seems a bit desperate, I also damaged one of the leaves trying to apply the straps 😭😭 My girl is suffering clear dehydratation as you can see from the leaves pointing down and that's because I have to keep the soil dry to fight the gnats.

hello guys I'm dealing with a gnats infestation. I'm treating my girl with neem oil and adhesive stripes so my questions are 1. can you confirm these are fungus gnats? 2. any advice? 3. how to water? I don't want to wet the soil because this would make things worse

Hi @susina 1. Yes they are gnats 2 and 3. You will have to pause your normal watering schedule for a couple days – but it’s worth it. When the soil has dried, make a mixture of 3% hydrogen peroxide and water at a 1:4 ratio. This won’t injure your plants, but it will turn into oxygen and water (that, as you know, are beneficial to the soil). This will keep the gnats away while simultaneously helping your plants out. To help speed up the process of ridding your plants of this pest, bring in a fan and have it blowing over your soil to help dry it up more rapidly. It also helps keep the tiny fungus gnats from flying around properly, therefore reducing the amount of eggs they are able to lay. A commercial product like Bug Blaster will always to the job. If you want to make sure to kill them all buy something like Bug Blaster. If you want to be particularly thorough, you can apply some food-grade diatomaceous earth over the areas of the soil that are exposed. This will kill the fungus gnat larvae, keep future infestations from occurring again, and will speed up the eradication process. Diatomaceous earth is organic – it’s simply made of fossilized shells! It kills insects effectively by cutting into their exoskeletons and draining out their bodily fluids. Luckily for you, it is not dangerous for people or pets – you could even consume it and be perfectly fine.Another way of destroying larvae that are living in the soil is using an actual pest treatment that contains the Bacillus bacteria. Bacillus sometimes referred to as “BT” or “BTi,” is a type of bacteria that creates a larvae-harming toxin. It essentially disallows them to eat. Good luck mate 👍

Helloo So today I've noticed that the bottom leaves are yellow. I don't really think it is a problem since I think the reason is that they don't get enough light because are covered by the bigger leaves on top. But it's better to ask since I'm a newbie. What do you think?

Radianceanswered grow question 5 years ago
If your plant is an Indica dominant, the color should be much darker. Dark green. Could be nutrient deficiency, probably nitrogen. did you already feed them nutrients ? Leaves turn yellow and die off when the plant is missing nutrients, it shouldn't happen at your stage since the plant is so small... Anyway I don't see a big problem now, you should keep monitoring daily and see if more leaves turn yellow. If it's a sativa it's normal that that the plant is a lighter green

No the powder is just some diatomaceous earth I've used to take care of a gnats infestation. It doesn't harm the plant. I was talking about the brown leaves

If your talking about the white on the leaves, it could be powder mildew. To keep on top of this, you can try spraying your leaves with a milk and water mix. It will kill the mildew but you may have to keep at it every few days up until it is gone. This method will not harm your babies. Also lower your humidity some. Good luck

hi guys I'm asking this question again because I haven't got any good answer the bottom leaves are drying out as you can see in the pictures. Why? Don't worry about the powder, it's a natural insecticide (diatomaceous earth)

Looks like a calcium deficiency to be honest. Use some in extra in your feeding to boost it. I doubt it’s a burn because you would probably see that in your new growth sites as well. Ultimately you’ll want to prune off the lower and inner growth that won’t be directly exposed to sunlight anyways. But yea that’s what I thinks happening. Happy growing

hey there, the bottom leafs are showing symptoms related to Nitrogen. In your case it's nitrogen toxicity. You can see this from the nutrient burn on the leaf tips and the yellowing starting at the base of the leaf outwards starting with the bottom leafs first. Just cut down the BioBloom or whatever has extra N in it and follow a feeding schedule like plain water x2 then one time feeding, water water feed water water feed, like that. Hope this helps ! 🚀

Bottom leaves dieing and going up plant? Cant be light burn, so you are overfeeding, or you probably have a cal mag deficiency, or your plant is infested with pests bc you mentioned de earth, i would prune off the dead leaves, check ph, and give a bit of cal mag. As long as ph is good.

@susina,, topping is a very simple technique and is done usually above the 5th or 6 node because that will allow you to have enough branches to get what you want out of it anyting else with less nodes will require considerable growing skill to make it into a decent crop . When you are dealing with auto plants depending of their genetic and Heritage they might respond well or bad to topping because they may not have enough time to recover before flowering start if you start flowering already it is something that will be probably counterproductive. But basically just cut out the tip to a point where you hit the top stem off the plant and that's it within 2-3 days if she is healthy she will start to recover. A quick note I usually do not do it to autos because by bending them meaning by low stress training you can achieve the same result without stressing the plant. Good luck with your garden have a happy grow.

I tried to reply to you grow question. I guess I couldn't but the plant looks healthy I notice in your charts and you don't post any feeding if that's the case she will probably benefit from Calmag .as well the soil doesn't seem to have perlite or nothing that will make it more Airy therefore making the roots spread easier through the soil and then that's what gives you a bigger healthier plant also you seem to be growing a midget plant by genetics so when you cannot expect something very large and when it comes to topping if you're planning to top her when she enters flowering stage that will be the worst thing to do to it it will cause the plant to become very stressed you have to do it on week 3 or 4 just before it starts to flower . Hopefully this information helps you out good luck with your garden have a happy grow.

@Canadian, thank you for your answer, I'm giving her a general npk fertilizer since it's quite hard to get the specific ones in my country. I'll try to use a better soil with my next grow. Also could you tell me something more about topping? I've read you should cut above the fifth 'node' and mine has just developed it.

For the beginning stages of your plant you will want the light cycle in at least an 18 hour interval, you can also use 24 hours for the very beginning of your plant to help promote growth, after the fifth or six week when your plant is that a desirable size you’re going to start switching to a 12 on 12 off light cycle, that will put your plant into flowering. I would recommend to go ahead and start picking up your light cycle

Hey momma, I love your motherly instincts and passion. Sorry to hear all the chirps about things other than your question. I am looking at your nighttime temps. 59 degrees. whoowee thats cold momma. Pests and nutrients aside, your baby is not getting proper sunlight. Also, the temp fluctuation is killing you. Plants kill of leaves they don't need if other parts of the plants are competing for nutrients. Google some tips on plant training. Check out my grow diary, and my week five stats. I am growing indoor but in organic soil. Your Ph. or potential hydrogen is wonderful. Perhaps you are feeding them tap water? This could overload in random nutrients, but probably not. Make sure the temp of the water is between 68-72 degrees F. Cut off the brown leaves where the stem meets the stalk. As long as your main stalk is healthy you have hope. Like homboy said earlier about the gnats, he's spot on. Your soil, is that just regular potting soil with no amendments? This might be a problem, second, did you activate your soil? In order to have a healthy ecosystem in your soil, you need to introduce large microbes. Such microbes come from compost teas or Alaskan fish oil (from walmart. Check out Caligreen on youtube, use his compost tea mixture and feeding schedule, and you'll be poppin in no time. Keep growin momma!
