I guess the correct headline here is bud rot. Took a while to figure out why I ran into these issues, after a bit more snooping around and investigating I came to a mostly certain conclusion. My passive intake was clogged with dust, barely any air was coming into the grow room. This, coupled with the fact my temperature and RH sensor/recorder was giving me back dated information and applying it to the present day. I didnโ€™t realise I was getting 80%+ RH spikes during lights out for the last 3 weeks. Iโ€™ll call it a lesson, and start to check things more regularly around the grow room, not just the plants themselves. After a heavy crop scout with sterilised gloves and alcohol rub to hand, I carefully pulled back and inspected every cola, washing my hands between each cola. Unfortunately most of the largest colas fell victim to botrytis, in the end I cut off 7 colas completely and carefully sorted through into 3 separate piles on D100. One pile was the bin put into double tied sandwich bags with a good spray with 70% alcohol , this contained directly infected areas with a 5cm radius. (235g including fan leaves and stems (wet)) The second pile was for buds that were within 10cm of the rot sites that appeared to be healthy, this went into a brown paper bag, ready for hash making when I complete the harvest in the next couple weeks. (305g including buds and sugar leaves (wet)) The third, and most limited pile was bud sites that were more than 10cm away from the rot sites. These are now successfully dried and are now in their curing jars. Based on the smell, they already smell better than my last harvest so Iโ€™m hoping itโ€™s a sign of things to come. (58g buds (dry)) I had to buy a 4x4 tent to temporarily dry the good buds, and will use again when I do the main harvest. The top colas that are left look a little stressed this week, not sure if itโ€™s to do with shock from early harvest, but I am going in and checking every other day with clean clothes to make sure the problems are not progressing further. Based on the trichomes (video) the samples look like theyโ€™re a week or two away from harvest now, so hopefully I wonโ€™t have the throw anymore away before then. Anyway, waffling over, mainly wanted the detail for my own reference if I ever have to come back to this (I hope not). Good luck all!

To me the Flowering is the most " boring" Part of The grow ------- I love the start, gemination and seedling and training , getting them big...๐Ÿ˜‚ But Flowering is the Meditative Part , too. Just sitting sin front, sniffing, picking away some leaves and just Looking๐Ÿ˜

@Mrs_Larimar, agree completely! Maybe I will have to set up a perpetual grow to keep myself busy!

How...how do you get in? Hahaha๐Ÿ˜…. She's jam packed with goodness man. Some extremely promising buds๐Ÿ‘. Btw, I took some advice from the convo you were having w/ Hazey, below. Strung up my Purple Star to space my mains and she is bulking up beautifully ๐Ÿ‘Œ. Never thought to use them for that, thanks! Happy grows this week๐Ÿ™‚

@JinksyGrows, haha I earlier on in the grow I locked myself in the room for 2 hours late at night because the handle fell off ๐Ÿฆ thanks for the kind words and glad youโ€™re strapping your girls up, itโ€™s gotta do more good than harm for sure ๐Ÿ’ช

I am amazed at how the health of the plants seemed to greatly improve when they started to stretch out! As an outside grower I didnโ€™t know that droopy looking veg. would be so productive in flower! Thanks for the lesson and I really appreciate your attention to details in the diary. Buds up bro !!

@PoppyJ, DWC is always a battle for me during veg but always shines once the flip button is pressed, thanks for your comments and good luck with your grows ๐Ÿ˜Š

@NuggetPawn, looking forward to growing the Sweet Seed's Skittlez - but that will be a micro grow since I'm being demoted to a smaller footprint ๐Ÿ˜‚ (my wife has done really well so far...). And I'll be bringing my Tropicana Banana from the outdoors inside to start flowering :) Good times ahead. Hope it's a better week for you mate!

@NuggetPawn, NICE!!! I love DIY systems. I'm on the fence on if I want to build one myself or turn 1 of my aerogarden systems into a low Ryder grower. How long it take you to build?

One of my favourite grows ๐Ÿ‘ looking super fine. When do you wire up the yoyos usually and is it just on the big colas? I'm thinking of using some to space out tops from each other ...
NuggetPawn
NuggetPawncommented4 years ago
@HazeyBobby, haha I like a fat trunk though! ๐Ÿ˜
HazeyBobby
HazeyBobbycommented4 years ago
@NuggetPawn, interesting approach! Going to have to try that next time ๐Ÿ˜‰ .. in the meantime - I'll just ignore the massive trunks on my plant in my grow ๐Ÿคฃ
NuggetPawn
NuggetPawncommented4 years ago
@HazeyBobby, thanks man, appreciate it ๐Ÿ˜Ž about 2 weeks after flip I usually try to hook up every cola possible, just make sure you buy plantit! Yoyoโ€™s as theyโ€™re super reliable. I donโ€™t have enough of them and the yellow ones are poop, some own brand hydro store ones. Itโ€™s a good idea to use them to space the branches out, thatโ€™s what I tend to do too. I really think they help with yield too, as I never get any fat trunks as the plants are effectively weightless, so I figure the plant doesnโ€™t use energy to strengthen trunks and uses it for flower production instead ๐Ÿ˜Š

Congrats on the harvest. Looks like you managed to make the best of the situation. What's the story with the red-coloured buds? Mmmm. Hash. I'd like to try making some one day - another project for the list.

@NuggetPawn, Awesome! I look forward to the videos.
NuggetPawn
NuggetPawncommented4 years ago
@StunFlower, thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š Iโ€™m not sure tbh, Iโ€™ve seen another Royal Gorilla diary on here that got some pinky/purple buds so maybe itโ€™s just a pheno thing. 2 out of 5 had some pinky/purple in them. Hash is definitely worth making for sure, I just put my trim with sugar into brown paper bags and stick in the freezer until Iโ€™m ready to process, I then use a 220 micron bubble bag, a 5 gallon bucket, flat surface and some dry ice, Iโ€™ll post some videos next week ๐Ÿ˜Š

Just love watching that D1-77 time lapse... the flip then explosion. How do you maintain the plants in the back? a crawl through that floor would be a funny sight. Must be smelling wonderful in there now ๐Ÿ‘Œ
HazeyBobby
HazeyBobbycommented5 years ago
@NuggetPawn, perfect to be forced not to touch some of the plants.. I sometimes can't help defoliate and trying very hard this grow not to touch it - just to experience the 'leave the leaves' approach :) Larf is excellent for concentrates ๐Ÿ‘Œ
NuggetPawn
NuggetPawncommented5 years ago
@HazeyBobby, seriously smell great, got some great smokey expectations now! Going to the back is impossible without breaking anything now so I havenโ€™t ventured out there for a few weeks. I think Iโ€™m gonna get a lot of larf on the lower canopy but Iโ€™ll just use that for hash I think! ๐Ÿ˜Š

hey man I'm deciding what beans to pop next. I have these seeds but never grew them. looking for a hard hitting auto with strong aroma. does this fit the bill? mad kief u got there mate. what size microns d are u dry sifting with Growmie? great job on the grow. shame about the bud rot. I wish I had money for one of these https://airsniper.ca/product/air-sniper-low-pro/ and forget about bud rot, powdery mildew and all that nasty crap. maybe one day. happy trails growmie
NuggetPawn
NuggetPawncommented4 years ago
@DaSofaSurfer, I donโ€™t have much experience with autos, but if the auto version is close to the taste and high of this one, I definitely recommend. I use a 220 bag only, as some trichome heads are bigger than 160 sometimes. That looks like some serious kit, would be scared to know how much they cost lol Thanks for your message, hope this helps!
