*Notes of the Week:*
-Bruce and Purple Star are the only uploads I have at the moment as I had a genetics issue for the first time. Seed bank has been contacted and a new set of x3 seeds will be sent out, free of charge. Unfortunately, it will be too late for this grow, so substitutions have been made. I also had a Banana Kush I obtained through a seed exchange, but low and behold, it's non-viable and didn't tap whatsoever. --Grow plans completely changed and Instead of a Black Widow and Banana Kush, there will be a Dutch Dragon and Space Cookies by Paradise Seeds. These girls are 2 and 3 days behind their counterparts and will be updated in the near future.
-Something feels off with the girls, but I dunno. Think it's all in my head and my patience is wearing thin while in isolation. I know we're all in the same boat. I'm just starting to feel it😕
-No concrete plan on the training and methods I'll be using on these girls. I know I want to keep and train them very short, but that's about all I got for now.
-2 of 4 girls will be moving to Green Planet's nutrient line w/ some minor substitutions. Was looking to get away from GHE, and GP seems to fill all the needs I'm looking for. Give her a go and see how she goes👌
Thanks for dropping by folks! Trying to keep positive vibes going and I hope all you are too. Stay positive and stay safe. Much love and happy grows. Cheers👋😊
**Copy/Pasted to GDP x Bruce Update, Week 2. Same notes and issues plagued both**
Welcome to the poop shoot folks. The first picture above (pH test) is a good indication on how my week went with the girls. The vial on the left, my friends, is the fantastic seeding soil I had chosen to start the girls in (test on the right is with my potting-up soil). I put blind faith in the soil I was sold/using and only came to finally test it when all other parameters were checked off the list. I was loosing it. Here's a quick power-point that led me here:
-Last weeks update, I mentioned I felt something was "off" but didn't know what yet. When updating DD and Space Cookies I mentioned I felt the soil was the culprit...but again, didn't know why.
-I assumed the medium was inert, lacking any basic Nitrogen building blocks needed. I was seeing a Nitrogen deficiency, but was looking at the wrong solution.
-Went ahead and added a top layer of amended soil, along with a micro dose of NPK trio, early week. They visibly grew after the top soil addition, then stopped. The feed did nothing at all. Both GPDxB and PSK were still showing strong signs of deficiencies w/ PSK being the worse of the two.
-Re-ran through all my parameters again and again but couldn't find anything amiss. Only parameter I didn't test was the soil, as I still felt the soil was inert, not toxic.
-On April 16th I made a determination that the Nitrogen deficiency I was looking at wasn't a lack of nutes but a straight lockout. Symptoms on Bruce's first set were curling upwards and void of green. Yellow working it's way from the outside, inwards.
-I was really hoping I over-watered and let them dry out before finally testing the damned soil. Nothing changed and the symptoms were starting on the two girls that were planted last (Dutch Dragon and Space Cookies)
-Friday morning (April 17th) I tested the soil w/ a 15min slurry test with 2:1 (6.0pH RO too soil) and that's the crimson red result you see in the picture above. I rejected the result immediately...couldn't be. It's brand new soil... Grabbed my potting soil and did the same test. Regardless of whether the slurry test is accurate in terms of reading an exact soil pH, the comparison was all I needed to see.
-At this point and time, I was pretty upset. I knew I needed to move them, but just the constant garbage that's plagued this project was getting worse and worse. Like, can they even recover from this? I just let them sit and fry in -4.0pH soil. Immediately thought about scrapping the whole project, but screw it, let's see if I can bring them back. If I only lost time, this might be okay.
**Emergency Transplant Power-Point**
-Mixed new potting soil to move from the solo's up to 3 gallon fabric pots. Soil is 50% Pro-Mix (Mycorrhizae) and 50% Island Farms potting soil w/ 1:6 perlite ratio.
-Added a 2/3rd's recommended dose of powered bone meal by Gaia Green (2-16-0). I knew the roots had to be fried and this was to hopefully bring them back.
-3-4 inches below the transplant hole is a conservative sprinkling of Root-Stim #1 for soft-wood applications. Didn't want them to tap into this right away, but giving them a boost once they hopefully recovered and reached this lower layer.
-All four plants were the same and the suspicion was correct, for good or for bad. They had a max of a cubic inch of roots after 9-12 days. They had no where to go and didn't barely touched the hot seeding soil. They were all top side growth w/ limited and fried roots.
-Knocked off as much of the existing soil as possible, exposing most of the fried roots. Transplanted into the new soil and watered with 150mL of 6.2 pH RO around the circumference.
**Recovery**
-At the time of typing this, it's been 60 hrs and they have been visibly growing, but they're health is very shaky. Totally touch and go at this point.
-In 48 hrs they had nearly doubled in size and started to push their 2nd and 3rd set (pending on plant). Again, however, the new growth is weak, leggy and a little off in color. They are pretty severely damaged and the last two days showed me just how far the root system has degraded.
**Final Notes**
-What can I say...I really screwed the pooch on this. Blind faith and being complacent has led the poor girls here and I don't know where they will end up. I'm not too pleased with myself, but after kicking myself over and over again, I've come to accept it and am ready to move forward with a new grow if I have too. Still hurts, but it is what it is.
-I made a decision to observe the girls and see where they are by Wednesday (April 22nd). If I don't see positive signs of recovery (specifically the root system) I will stop this project in it's tracks, eat the 2.5 weeks it took and start from scratch. I don't want to do this. I'd prefer they tap well and recover, but after that much damage and sitting for soooo long in that soil, I just don't know.
-So, you'll see one of two things next Sunday (26th). Recovering plants or a new set of seedlings.
Thanks for looking in guys and girls. I must admit I'm pretty embarrassed by this whole debacle but I feel it's the right to lay it all on the table. Initially I didn't even want to type this because I was feeling so down about it all😟. But I've been taught it's best to be humble and I need to admit these mistakes, less I forget and repeat the same. If anyone has advice on how to help, over and above what I've already done, it would be greatly appreciated. Understand that while I'm asking this, I may not have access to needed supplements, additives or nutrients due to the COVID shutdown. Thanks again all. I really wish you a great week and a far better one then me and the girls faced. Much love, take care and stay safe👌
Howdy all. This is Week 3, Veg w/ PSK. The Deets:
The Good:
-Great week w/ PSK, especially considering the tough start we had. She seems to be in full swing and has taken nicely to her new home👍👍
-She's pumping out some nice new sets of leaves and has started to push her 5 blade sets. All new growth is well textured, healthy and green. Stem strength and lateral branching has also shored up quite a bit and they've become very sturdy.
-All symptoms of lockout and/or deficiencies seem to have completely halted. No burns, no heat/light stress and no stunting...just a happy little one
The Bad:
-No complaints. It's Aliiiiive!
The 'Meh':
-Over-watered...again. Still having trouble figuring out how much to feed and when. Losing a little bit of time here and there. More of an inconvenience then a serious problem.
-Night time temp and RH is out of whack and I'm working on getting it dialed in. RH spikes and temp dips. Heater is too much and the heat mat, too little. Need a happy medium that I'm not currently seeing right now. (I do have a de-humidifier, but I'd prefer to not use it at all. It's a terrible product. HYSURE. Do. Not. Buy. Lipstick on a pig, product)
-Only seen three blade sets popping up and was a little concerned, but all new sets, on all 4 girls, have 5 blades and I take this as a sign of health and recovery from all the stress they faced early on in their lives. Should be up and splayed out by tomorrow morning. Looks really good👌
Notes of the week:
-I'm crediting a few things for the expedited recovery of these girls, all of which (except Gaia Green Bone Meal) were applied in their first feed on Tuesday, April 21st. Bone meal for slow release phosphorous to bring back fried roots and mitigate soil pH. Potassium Silicate to help strengthen above ground growth, foliar health and later branching health. Used Hygrozyme for the first time. A cleaning agent for the soil in order to mitigate pH swings and control any bad bacteria building or spreading withing the medium (Two applications now. I love this stuff. Smells god awful though....). And finally, the old school 'Stim Root #1' for softwood applications, really kicked up the root growth into new soil. Insta-tap. I recommend Stim root to everyone, actually. Extremely cheap, bare bones rooting hormone that's older then 95% of us. I mentioned this in my second grow, but this is the same hormone my Papa used 50 years ago to sow his apple tree saplings into new soil. Very old and reliable product.
-Considering just giving away the remainder of my GHE supply and just move direct to an all Green Planet run. IDK. I don't want to mix things up too much and it might just be better to give the remainder to my buddy who is growing with GHE.
-Feel like I'm pushing the recovery a little too much and I'm going to pull back a bit. Nothings wrong, but I can see where things will go if I keep asserting my will over them, instead of just letting them get there on their own...which they will. Boredom's a killer and the girls are paying the price.
-Beating a dead horse here, but I see I only lost time on this grow and that everything will be okay. Learned a crap tonne and actually learned from my mistakes. That and the plants are still alive and well. I'll take this as a personal win and carry this new knowledge with me into the future. Hopefully/possibly save someone else from the same fate.
Thank you everyone for dropping in. Happy to share this recovery with you all and happy for all the support from those that shared their stories. You all calmed me down, gave me some solid advice and positive affirmation. You told me not to scrap it and give them time... thank you. If you hadn't have intervened, these girls may have been scrapped. Cheers to you all and I wish you the best of week's. Take care of you and yours and I'll see you on the flip side. Peace!👍😊
Howdy folks and welcome to Week 4, Veg w/ PSK. The Deets:
The Good:
-Great week, growth, color, movement and texture on all new sets.
-Taking to training better then any of the other girls. Strongest root system, it seems, and she's shoring up very quick.
-Adjusted feed schedule with higher P/Cal and lower N/K (lightly tapered off, for now) has worked well to help her define her root system in order to support this strong top-side growth.
The Bad:
-No bad w/ her, just 'Mehs'
The 'Meh':
-Slight over fertilization that has already been rectified by slowly leeching excess nutrients with 200 mL of 6.0 distilled, everyday. I'll follow this up with a flush through (w/ P/Cal) and 10-15% run-off to pull any excess out from my initial feeds and start her fresh w/ a new nutrient schedule to help push Veg into an even higher gear.
-Slight twisted of the leaves near night time is common with her, it seems. Not sure if this is due to the over-fert or if this is a sign of heat stress....even though I've dropped my temps consistently for the week in order to help them with these issues. Come on! Dial in!😄
Notes of the Week:
-Was having a good chat with Med_in_Tropic and we were talking about why Dutch Dragon dips out every night, when all parameters have been checked off and she shouldn't be doing this. Genes? Temp? I don't know. We came to a consensus that the root system may still be behind (after 1.5 weeks in hot soil and frying them). This was limiting all the girls ability to take up adequate moisture and nutrients from the soil for the entirety of the day. This was leading to drought-ed leaves w/ the lateral branching also showing signs of water deprivation. SO! it was decided it would probably be a good idea to work on the root system for a bit and semi-ignore the top-side growth. This is the new feed I applied. I leveled off N/K and picked up my P/Cal dosing to help repair and push the girls root system to support her top-side movement. I feel this will take a week or two, so there hasn't been any real noticeable difference as of yet. Yesterday, however, DD didn't dip out until 7:30pm instead of her usual 7:00pm... Good sign? Haha, again, I don't know. We shall see.
-No preliminary training on Space Cookies. Decided to let her move like I did Norther Lights #1. I will start her training after her topping this week. All girls will be topped this week at some point and this will open up SC to some light and air, giving me some laterals to train out.
-After the root system is up to snuff, I will be going back to a tad more of an aggressive schedule, over the one I used in grow #2. I was doing a little egg shell walking last grow, again, and I know I can quicken the process if I'm careful. It's a learning curve I'm going to need to learn and what amounts or additives is too much/going to far. There will most likely be consequences, but I'm prepared for that and I'm hoping the end game result will be me, having a better handle on what/how/how much every micro/macro nutrient and additive is doing.
Word up all. Thanks for dropping by and checking out the little one. She's doing really well in my opinion and I look forward to her progression over the coming weeks. Going to keep my nose clean, go slow and keep up on my end of things. I'm positive all will be well and I'm happy to be here, in this position, with all the girls after that terrible, terrible start. Thanks all and keep you and your's safe and sound. Much love and take care, all.✊😊
**Just a side note I feel I should throw this in. This is coming from the electrician in me. Please, everyone, make sure your equipment is rated properly. I've seen a few un-settling things recently that mostly deal with inline timers, specifically the difference b/t analog and digital. If you're using a digital timer for an HPS/MH set-up, I can almost guarantee it's not rated to do this. I highly suggest ONLY using analog timers for HPS/MH systems, as the analogs are more rigidly built and can handle the massive in-rush current that comes along with these lamps. Digital timers usually can't take that inrush current and are more suited for LED/COB (They do not have this in-rush). Using a digital with HPS/MH may work for a bit, but the inner mechanisms and integral wiring will burn/break apart in good time. The contacts may either burn out and the light won't turn on at all, or the contacts will be fused shut from high heat melting the two metals together, making it unable for you to turn it off! Just two cents my friends. Please read the specs and the fine print before possibly buying something that could, at the very least, burn up and cost you cash. Worst case scenario, you burn it up, trip the breaker and damage your lamps drivers/ballasts. Cheers!😀**
Howdy all you fine folks. Welcome to Week 5, Veg w/ Purple Star Killer. The Deets:
The Good:
-Despite some issues (same as GDPB) there was some very good growth and she's pushing super well. Foliage health and color seem to be coming back really well and the procedures I've implemented seem to have rectified most my problems.
-Training and topping had gone very well, although she did take more time then the other girls to bounce back. In less then 12 hours she was visibly moving again, and her two new tops were pushing up and out.
-Internode's are growing offset from one another, a good sign she's going into pre-flower. No pistils, and still a ways away from when I'd like to flip, but it's nice to see them moving along and ready to go when need be.
The Bad:
-Low pH and high PPM reads off my first feed w/ run-off. Didn't run enough through her so I planned her next feed/flush to adjust these numbers further. This application was today and these numbers have gotten far, far better. One more flush/feed and everything should be normalized and hopefully all symptoms she's showing start to pull back (none of these symptoms are really bad at all. Just noticeable and it can/needs to be fixed up).
-I hate my camera, that's all. It sucks and the pictures I tried to take today made her look like poop! Hahaha. So I added one last one in where she's in the tent and her color is true.
The 'Meh':
-Minor symptoms due to the pH swing, that's all. I know what's going on and there seems to be a lack of P/K/Cal take up. With these new reads from my run-off today, I feel things have balanced out and these minor symptoms will halt.
-Too much circulation... decommissioned a tower fan as wind-burn was popping up on PSK and GDPB. Oops! Happened last grow too😦.
**First and Second Flush/Feed Results**
May 5th, 1st Run-off Read:
-5.2 pH and 3262 PPM
-Ran 1.25 Gallons of nutrient feed w/ 25-20% run-off. Applied at 6.0pH and 240ppm
May 10th, 2nd Run-off Read:
-5.7/5.8pH and 1054 PPM (Good rise in pH and drop in PPM's)
-Ran 1 gallon of straight Tap @ 6.5pH, followed up with 750mL of nutrient feed to replace what was taken with the flush.
Notes of the Week:
-Went back to basics for a bit as I was convoluting a lot of things for a bit. Trying to do and try too much at once. So I've pulled back on the tonne of new supplements/additives and went back to what I know until this pH swing and ppm's fall back into place. When things are on the up an up (hopefully after the procedure I just did today) I'll go back to my advanced schedule and new additives that I would like to use on the girls, for the remainder of this grow.
-Tent parameters are actually very good right now and I haven't had to touch anything for awhile. Day/night temps and RH is pretty constant and if I hold these numbers, I'm positive they will continue to take it all in and thrive.
-Tentatively planning the flip to flower already, as I feel this growth rate will be constant, as long as I keep up what I'm doing. Benchmark time will be b/t week 8-9 for the flip. Pretty much the same as Grow #2 but I will flip around a safer height @ around 18" tall. Second grow I triggered at 24" and this damn near screwed me over!
Thanks all for coming on by and checking out the little one. She's doing pretty good and I'm happy she's alive and well👍. Thanks for all the support from some of my wonderful contacts, helping me determine my next move and some of the symptoms I was looking at. Things may not look this well if it weren't for this advice and why I keep asking for more if you have some to give. I'm open to constructive critism and if you see/feel somethings amiss, looking at these photos, drop me a please! Any advice, other then what I've already done, would/will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Have a great week ladies and gents, take care of you and yours and we shall see each other again, soon! Much love all. Cheers✊😊
Howdy all and welcome to Week 6, Veg w/ Purple Star Killer. Super 50/50 week! The Deets:
The Good:
-Thing's aren't perfect right now and that's cool/was expected. But... she's holding in very well and I know she's looking forward to Tuesday's 'reset' feeding of late Veg.
-She's still growing strong, pushing new nodes and 7 blade fans. The health IS there, but she's a little starved out right now.
The Bad:
-Just 'Meh's'. Nothing done this week was unexpected and all the meh's were.
The 'Meh' (Copy/pasted from GDPB. Same thing(s)):
-I kept talking about hitting the reset button last week, and this week that's exactly what I did. There was a clear pH imbalance causing deficiencies/toxicities. In notes of the week, I will go into what I believe the issue was (This is what I see but don't know if it's correct). I knew going in that the girls would NOT be happy with me, but I NEED NORMALCY and so do they. I have not fed a normal feeding schedule once... I've been screwing around and tailoring my own doses trying to figure things out. Well, that was a slog and I went through with the feeds/flushes @ 6.5pH to rectify both my issues before "starting anew". These two flush/ feed results are below.
-There are deficiencies, but I knew they were coming. Can't heavily flush your plant and expect there not too be😅. The tentative plan moving forward will also be listed below, in short form. There's a lot going on but trying to keep this short (ya right, right😄).
^^**EDIT** THIS EDIT WILL ALSO BE IN WEEK 7!!^^: Wrong about most everything. Yes, there are deficiencies and a pH imbalance, but no, it's not Potassium and I was waaaay off. 24 hours after this update, I saw the symptom progression and my diagnoses was wrong. New diagnoses: Underfed. Simple as that. Signs of heavy nitrogen and magnesium deficiency w/ Phosphorus also lacking. Never had a P issue before and didn't' know what I was looking at. I threw in a quick "Phosphorous deficiency" chart above, just for poops and giggles. You can literally match my symptoms with the deficiency end of the chart (Mostly on PSK). Thin blades, twisting leaves, red stems, etc... It's all there. The Nitrogen and Magnesium deficiencies are clear as day too, and I was looking at the Mag def. as chlorosis... There may be chlorosis, but Mag/P and possibly Cal are what she's mainly lacking atm. Will update the remainder, new schedules and plant conditions in Sunday's entry, but wanted to throw this update in, quickly. I admit I was waaaay wrong. Please ignore the original writings. Thanks!
**Run-Off Results Over Two Feeds/Flushes @ 30-35% (Three procedures)**
First Application (May 10th):
-1.5 Gallons, Tap @ 6.5pH and 245ppm (Tap ppm's).
First Run-off :
-5.5pH and 2420ppm
Second Application (May 10th, after flush of Tap):
-3 Liters of Micro-Grow-Bloom-Diamond Nectar (3-3-1-2.5)
Second Run-off:
-5.7pH and 1050ppm
Third Flush Application (May 15th):
-3 Gallons, Tap @ 6.5pH and 245ppm (Tap ppm's)
Third Run-off:
-6.0pH and 600ppm (Hit the numbers I wanted w/ this last run)
**Moving Forward. Tentative Plans (pending on feeding's)**
Tuesday, May 19th: Full Feed of GDPB and DD w/ 4-4-2.5-5-1 (Micro-Grow-Bloom-Diamond Nectar-Flora-licious plus)
Wednesday, May 20th: Full feed, same schedule as Tuesday, for Space Cookies and PSK
Saturday, May 24: Transplant of GDPB and PSK from 3-5 gallon fabric pots and their final resting place.
Sunday, May 24th: Transplant of Space Cookies and DD from 3-5 gallon fabric pots and their final resting place.
**If the full feeding goes well, deficiencies pull back, color comes back and excess nutrients are at bay, I will be moving to my 'Transitions" schedule by end of Week 7 and plan to flip early or mid-week 8)**
Notes of the Week:
-In the fifth and sixth picture above you'll see the 7pm dip-out I've been speaking of. This shot was at 7:30pm when she was starting to droop before here 10pm night schedule. Before lights on, these symptoms stop and they move back upwards even without light to track. Again, it is what it is, but wanted to show you what I've been seeing EVERY bloody day at 7pm for 3 weeks. Cool, ya?? Haha
-This week was obviously a massive catch 22, but it was decided (and after talking to other's) that losing a little bit of time means nothing in the grand scheme of things (Yay! for photos!). I feel I've gotten the numbers back to a decent and nutrient receptive level and I look forward to 'starting again'... I do have faith that the ends will justify the means, here, but only time will tell if my intuition is correct... I'm prepared for it to not be, lol!😅
-My personal diagnoses when going through my plant symptoms was this: PH imbalance, along with an Potassium excess was causing an iron deficiency (chlorosis on top leaves) by blocking it's uptake and the low pH was inhibiting my Magnesium uptake. It's weird, I know, and I may not be right, but the signs of potassium toxicity were there and so was mag/iron deficiency. After doing a poop tonne of reading and research into my dis-coloring's, this is all I could come up with...and it would make sense. In trying to bring health back to my root zone, I used oodles of soluble potash additives or supplements with it as an addition (was using Grow, Rapid Start (High potash concentrate) and potassium silicate). I got my roots back! but here we are with the Catch 22. Everything I have been doing is/was an attempt to knock down this excess, balance my pH and re-start with a fresh feed in relatively nute-free soil. That was my thinking... so let's see how she goes now. It's all up in the air as far as I'm concerned, lol.
That's it! Hoping next week's update will show the girl in full swing again but will reserve my expectations until this feed on Tuesday. By Thursday I should know how everything has gone with them and will move on to the aforementioned transition feedings and transplants by next weekend. Hope you're all well, for real. Take care of you and yours and I hope you all have a decent week. Much love and take care all! Cheers✊
Howdy all and welcome to Week 7, Veg w/ PSK. The Deets:
The Good:
-Actually some pretty good, good this week. She's not very happy with me and has been under a lot of stress, but her health is getting better, color is coming back and deficiency symptoms are pulling back. With the hell she's gone through, this is perfectly fine with me. Just happy she's alive and growing well.
-Transplant and both feedings went well. She did dip out and needed to recover, but her bounce back is impressive to me and I feel she's looking good.
-Damaged old growth is being replaced by very nice, healthy and GREEN new laterals and fan sets. The old growth is getting better, but I'm depending on this new growth to help her along
The Bad:
-I don't know if it's normal, but one lateral did not recover (or at least isn't right now). It's clear as day that she is not eating or growing well....just the one. All other laterals have been doing much better, but the symptoms on this single branch is just getting worse. Is it common for a plant to "cut off a finger to save the hand"? Will it ever come back or shall I just take her off? I'll ask again below, advice would be appreciated! If it has to go, it has to go. I'll train something in the empty space and away we go.
The 'Meh':
-Still working back to health with her, but is waaaaay better off then the last 1.5 weeks. Feedings of 6.7-6.8pH w/ light run-off seems to be helping with the previous pH imbalance. Magnesium, Nitrogen and the deep red stems (Phosphorous) have pulled back nicely. Again, she's not perfect, but I feel she's coming back in spades.
-Under-feeding was the main issue with this girl and the others. The screwing around with heavy run-off, weird feed schedules and total inconsistency led to this. Now that I've STOPPED messing around, the results are getting better.
-Stretched pretty bad and I'm thinking on how I can buy some time/height. I know what I need to do, but she may not look too aesthetically pleasing, haha. Oh well. The stretch has been stopped now with a light change, but some very long inter-nodal lengths exists and I'd like to train back down a bit, letting lower end laterals reach the surface. I'm going to be putzing around this week with this, so hopefully next week she will have her final shape for the flip.
Notes of the Week:
-In my Space Cookies and Dutch Dragon diaries, I go through my mistakes and how I went about rectifying them. Long and short of it is under-fed, but detail as to what I was noticing, where I felt I messed up and how I planned to get them back is all listed in those two diaries "Notes of the Week". These plans have already been executed and we're moving forward. Neato.
-Transplants completed in full by May 24th (Space cookies last) from 3 to 5 gallon fabric pots w/ 15mL per gallon of Gaia Green Bone Meal for pH conditioning and slow release P/Cal to carry the girls through bloom. I did this last grow and I was amazed at how well my pH held and how healthy they were throughout flower.
-Moving to 1-2 gallon fabrics with a VELCRO side for easier transplants, next grow. Love the fabrics, but they act like Chinese finger traps during the move.
-All plants have had their late Veg and Transitions schedule feedings, now. They all took it well and took it all. Color isn't perfect yet, but things are coming back to normalcy.
-PSK is still angry at me, and she has every right to be. She has not bounced back as well as her counterparts and I feel it's still a little touch and go with her. Again, not holding any expectations. I have faith she'll make it to end game, but I'm not going to put money on it just yet.
-Going back to normalcy took time. I didn't use or do anything new or unknown to me when doing these adjustments. Just did what I know and I feel that's why we're back on track. Trying to much, too fast can be a burden. Please, other new growers, heed my warning. Experimenting is good! but beware of the consequences 😮
-Comparison from Grow #2 shows that this grow is moving faster then the last...what? I made a lot of mistakes here, but for some reason they seem to be 1-1.5 weeks ahead of last grows girls. No complaints. I feel I can attribute some of this to the SF, since I ran my second grow under a small LED strip for the first 2.5 weeks, but this grow they were under the SF by the beginning of week two. Kicked things up a notch (?).
-I haven't been to crazy about pictures and my diaries lately. It's not that I don't care, it's just that I've been getting out more, now that travel restrictions are getting a little more lax. I miss human frigging contact!!!!! I'm an introvert, but even I was feeling very isolated.
Thanks all for dropping by for another long entry, haha. I hope you all have a good week and things are going decent for you and the little ones🙂
***HEY! SIDE NOTE. I've been talking to new comers about extraction/intakes/air pressure and how to mitigate RH and temp with them. I added in a really ugly wiring diagram I made on Microsoft Paint, LOL! This picture is of my current set up. It is for people that do NOT run extraction 24/7 but only want it to intermittently cycle to control RH and temp. It's a bit cheaper then going out and buying a humidifier to make up lost RH or a heater to make up for lost heat. It takes some calibrating and depends on your environment, but when you dial it in, man is it a breeze. Just throwing it out there and hoping it may help someone that doesn't want/need that 24/7 pull. Thanks! Drop me a line in PM! Cheers again!***
"Psst, hey.... Want to see some stoner bends?". Haha. Welcome to the Final Week of Veg with Purple Star (Changes from grow #2-#3 listed near the bottom of this entry). The Deets:
The Good:
-She's actually doing pretty well right now..surprisingly. She's healthy and praying to the light while growing very quickly. She's filling all the empty spaces with new shoots and it appears she will be a nice full girl.
-HA! I did some serious stoner bends this week to buy myself some time and height. Looked pretty messed up when I first started, but it's all bounced back now and has taken her new shape. I have NO complaints about this. I was just happy it worked and she didn't get stressed out. I won't go into detail, just check out the pictures, hahaha😅. Did this in four stages, over two days to buy this extra height. Gave myself about an extra 7 inches and evened out the canopy a hell of a lot better then before.
-Besides a single lateral branch, her vigor is back. Old growth is pretty much back to normalcy, while all new growth is looking well textured and healthy. I feel this is the best she can be with the mistakes I've made. I'm happy she's doing so well and hoping flower will work out just fine👌.
The Bad:
-Power shutting on and off. Hydro company screwing around. Stop please!
The 'Meh':
-Wrote about a single lateral that wasn't doing as well as her counterparts. During recovery, most everything came back to near-full health, except this single branch. I was going to prune it off, but decided to leave and and see if she get's a bit better. Still not in good order but I won't be taking it at this very moment. After the flip and next feed, I'll make a call on whether to prune her off, leave her be or strip everything off, leaving just the branching. If I cut her, you'll definitely see an gap in her next week. Is what it is and their are plenty of healthy laterals ready to take it's place.
-No space, but not really an issue as the flip is coming down the pipe tonight👍
Notes of the Week:
-Yah, so it's time for the flip! Plant health, ppm's and pH are in check. There's no more room and it's time to go.
-Besides Space Cookies (whom is propped on a 6" pot) the canopy of the girls is even and will hopefully grow evenly (somewhat) throughout flower. I see that PSK and DD will be getting very big, but I'm a little more comfortable with this, as I have trained lower and given myself a lot more buffer space b/t my light and my canopy (about 24 " of stretch space, where the tallest plant sits at around 17-18"). A 100% stretch would still work out fine with the current height of the girls and I'm really happy I started my LST earlier to achieve a shorter (but still wide) plant. They're monsters and only stand at 11-17 inches. Neat!👌
-All plants have had one "transitions" feeding before the flip and will receive their second, two days from today. Will apply a third if needed, but I'm pretty positive I can jump into my Bloom schedule sooner then later.
-PK booster (King Kola) was not used exactly as needed in Grow #2 but will be used to it's full extent in this go. This will give me the full scope of the product and what/how it does. I know it works, but to what extent.
-Only nervous about PSK. She has had the hardest time so far, and Veg was a battle. Her health is there and she looks decent (only decent for the moment). I'm not really sure what will happen, if anything, when I flip them tonight, May 31st. Staying positive and hope she transitions into flower well.
**Quick Changes B/T Grow #2 and #3**
-LST started earlier to keep the girls shorter. Triggered at 24" in Grow #2 and this made things very stressful. I ran out of room and they stopped just in time before getting burned. I did NOT want to put myself in this position again, and this is the result👌.
-Aforementioned trigger at 24" is now being triggered at 11-17", leaving about 24-30" of play room for the coming stretch.
-Plants are firmer then grow #2. Potassium Silicate (Sturdy Stalk) was used properly and throughout Vegetation, where in Grow #2, I started late (about week 8-9). Applying once every 3rd feeding has proven to shore up the girls stems and laterals much better then previous attempts. Releasing my training tyes does not result in any movement.
-Size/Circumference of the girls in Grow #2 are about the same as Grow #3, but this took roughly 5-9 days less vegetation to achieve, even with allllll the mistakes and problems in early Veg. Attributing earlier training and the SF-2000 for this expedited growth. I know 5-9 days is isn't much at all, but cutting time out slowly with each grow is working quite well. Grow #1 took roughly 11 weeks of Veg (That diary does NOT have all weeks included and I compiled two, two week segments into one entry. This Veg did indeed take 11 weeks), Grow #2 took 8-9 weeks and this grow is down to 7-8 weeks. Slowly becoming more efficient and speeding things up a bit. Very happy to see these small changes as I would like to achieve 3 cycles/harvests a year. 20-22 weeks is far too long and the goal in this grow and the ones that follow it, is too bump this number down to a solid 16 week grow. Ideally 6-7 weeks Veg and 8-10 weeks Bloom.
-Using a slightly more advanced feeding schedule this round seems to have kicked them in the butt a bit (but I did face consequences trying to find the limit...beware). Next grow I feel I'll have a better handle on when and what to feed the girls at specific times to encourage faster, healthier growth.
So! That's the ball game folks! Next week I'm hoping I'll be able to show you some pistils and the beginning of bud formations. Please ya'll, take care of you and yours and have a great week. Spread the love! Give and get lots of hugs if you need them! If you're not feeling well, please don't hesitate to PM me.... Even if you just need a sound board, I'm here and of good mental health to listen, if needed. If you don't feel good, please don't isolate and keep it down. Myself and many others are hear to listen/help. Please reach out. Thank you my friends.✊🙏
Hello and welcome to the first week of Bloom with Purple Star. It was a rough week all-round and this entry will be different/weird. Trying to power point everything at once. It will be a long read and I apologize in advance. The deets:
The Symptoms (symptomatic for 2 weeks):
-Very clear yellowing/dull green newer leaves.
-Shiny coloring on new sets. Almost looks like a sheen and is picked up easily with the camera flash on.
-New fan sets and secondary sets are growing smaller and slower then previous.
-Pushing many new shoots but all are more spindly then previous.
-Marginal leaf curl at base of fans, new and old. Used to occur at night, but is persistent throughout the day, now.
-Newer leaves over-lapping and sets are growing far too close to one another, causing sweating, tangling and twisting of the leaves.
-Leaf blades are thinner then previous, cupping more and have this marginal leaf curl starting earlier then before.
-Very slight burning of leaf tips, even with a balanced pH and lack of Nitrogen
-Inter-nodes are too tight, but better then the others.
**June 3rd/4th** Reached out to several different people. I felt my thinking was off and I wasn't seeing anything correctly. If my thinking got me into this, this same brain probably wasn't going to get me out of it. Not without help. Posted pictures in Week 8 of Veg, along with details of my actions, and asked a lot of questions over 2 days before making any more decisions/applying more nutrients. Some things I knew already, but a lot of this was fresh insight and new eyes on things I wasn't seeing
**June 3rd/4th** The Consensus:
-Clear Nitrogen deficiency
-Mag/Cal deficiency (appears to be by the mosaic pattern/blotching on leaves)
-Zinc and/or iron deficiency w/ a possible sulfur issue as well
-PH imbalance and may be too high
-Over-fertilized causing nutrient uptake issues
-Then...someone mentioned a Phosphorus excess. Never seen it, didn't know the symptoms...but it lined right up
**June 5th** After doing my own reading, following guidance and going over my journal notes things were pretty clear. I have been dosing the crap out of my plants (All but Space Cookies) w/ heavy Phosphorus for awhile now😬. I wanted "a strong root system" after the terrible early Veg, and I've swung far too far the other way. Even during her last flush, I ran Bloom through to "carry her" but it was really only making things worse. With the two heavy transitions feeds and the recent introduction of early PK booster, it just pushed them further into harm.
**Phosphorous Excess** It has many similarities to a deficiency... including chlorosis. The reason why I see it as an excess, not a deficiency is from those past feedings. There has been more then ample supply of P and pH has been held at a steady 6.2-6.4. It is readily available and should not have an issue with a lack of P. These symptoms also progressed after the flush with Bloom, when I presume it would free up Nitrogen, but didn't. Here is a list of symptoms associated with a P excess. It might sound familiar to the symptoms listed above:
-A phosphorus excess affects the plant by causing a massive nutrient lockout of other elements like calcium, copper, iron, magnesium and zinc, being zinc the first micro-element to get blocked
-Upper leaves develop yellowing veins reminiscent of chlorosis (Yep!)
-Leaf tips will start to show signs of burning, regardless of pH (Yep!)
-Symptoms that look like Cal/Mag deficiency will occur, starting on lower sets (Yep!)
-Inter-nodes will grow too tightly and the plant will start to grow slowly (Yep!)
-Leaves will overlap and bunch together, limiting air/light and weak bud development. They will twist, curl and interfere with one another (Yep!)
-New leaves grow "thin" fingers and are usually accompanied by marginal leaf fold (Yep!)
-Will grow many new shoots but will be under-developed (Yep...)
Steps Forward (With some guidance😉):
-Done with feeding once every 4 days. Hand cuffs me if I make a mistake...which I do, a lot. Moving too daily or semi-daily feedings to mitigate what goes in and when
-Applied a lite plant flush to all girls, pulling about 30% run-off. Water was very! heavy and she was not taking anything.
-Done pushing nutrients. Big buds stopped being the focus, I just want them to be healthy now. Going to back off and give what is needed via top-side symptoms. No more heavy "full-meal deals" for now. This has and will assuredly keep things as hairy as they are. I usually fix one issue while creating others. It's not worth it
-PK booster and any further additives are being cut for the time being. Basic Micro-Grow-Bloom, Humic acids, molasses and Cal/Mag will be the only thing touching the soil (But not all at once for a little while)
-Due to overlapping leaves, circulation has been moved to max and drying is being expedited with this extra flow and additional heat. Night is also being held at 22-23 degrees as the medium was far too cold in the evening.
-Dutch Dragon will be the first to go on the new schedule and each plant will be treated individually. Need to do more reading and re-watch some video links that were sent to me pertaining to feeding soil media on a daily basis.
-No more swinging pH for nutrient applications. Will hold a constant 6.1/6.2 from here on out. Emphasis on run-off numbers will stop. Treat top side symptoms and stop fixing what's not broken.
Final and Positive Note:
It's far from over. She is growing and fanning out, just not in optimal fashion. Color is still there and leaves aren't going necro. She prays every day and seems to have good form, despite lack of chlorophyll. She has also stopped drooping out at nights... so that's actually a big plus this week. She holds her own all day and I feel it's a good sign. Pistil development is also in full swing, though it started slow. She is in flower and moving along. I often look at them after I write these and realize it's not as bad as I think in my head. I'm reminded that Cannabis is extremely versatile. Though they won't take constant abuse, there is still time to rectify my mistakes. With the steps and changes above and from the advice of others (not my brain!) I'm thinking I can stay patient and slowly work them back to health. It seems like I say that every week, but it's still true. Thank you to the several competent growers that helped me work this out. I really needed your eyes and advice here, otherwise I would still be scratching my head and pouring random additives and supplements in, trying desperately to fix what I've been doing. Not giving up in any way. Actually more determined then ever to get them to harvest. A learning curve I didn't necessarily want, but it appears to be necessary for me to learn and refine my practices. They're not exactly perfect...
**This will be copy/pasted in GDPB. Both plants show roughly the same symptoms and have been treated with the same regiment/methods. They will be treated differently when it comes to daily feedings and individual symptoms. Holy crap, I hope that's it. I'm out. Peace!✊✊**
Sorry for the delay. Here's Week 2, Bloom w/ Purple Star. Relatively good week👌. The Deets:
The Good:
-PSK isn't in perfect condition but her health is night and day from last week. I'm very happy that she is coming back even if there is more work to do.
-Cal/Mag flush and new daily feeding schedule has brought her back quite well and is working for me and the girls.
-She's biiiig but not a bad thing. Left myself the room I needed and she free-balled for the entire week, gaining about 9 inches in 7 days.
The Bad:
-Notta
The 'Meh':
-Still has symptoms from the tomfoolery performed over the past 3 weeks. Though she still has some visible symptoms, it's allll pulling back and color is visibly coming back into her top fans (the most affected).
-My stoner bends at the end of Veg kinda made her wonky but it is what it is, lol. It did the job it needed to do, just not a pretty form atm.
-Need to suck her and GDPB back inwards as side laterals are pumping out and taking even more space. Getting caught up when moved and I need to do a little more work over the coming weeks to mitigate the risk of damage
Process and New Tentative Feeding Schedule:
1. Flushed w/ Cal/Mag (beginning of recovery)
2. 1/2 dose of recommended feed
3. Water
4. 1/2 dose of recommended feed (completing full feed over three days)
5. Water
6. 1/2 Dose
7.Water
8. *Planned lite nutrient flush to see where she's at. Max of 20% run-off to displace the old and replace with the new*
9. Wait to dry out and repeat 2-7 (intermittent flushes pending on plant condition. Don't know yet)
Notes of the Week:
-Already looking to do a dual harvest on PSK and GDPB. Due to their heights and all the growth coming in on the bottom end, I can see that a second harvest after a week or so will help increase my yield and under-canopy bud quality.
-Planning on starting to drop night time temps slowly in the next week. In time, near the end of bloom, the tent should be about 18-19 degrees for lights off.
-Still some work to do with the girls, but the new schedule and plant health as vastly improved. I feel with more patience, continued daily feeds and lighter nutrient feeds, these girls will be in pretty decent shape by the end of Bloom, Week 3. Fingers crossed.
-All plants are currently on water feeds and will be getting an intermittent flush this Friday/Saturday. Going to run a 1/2 dose balanced nutrient feed w/ roughly 20% run-off. Would like to see where they're at and if my new methods are working. Too much excess, not enough? We shall soon see.
So! that's her. Thanks for stopping by to see this big lady and for your continued support during the poop show😄. Cheers all. I hope you all have a gooder of a week and enjoy your plants and projects! Peace and much love all.✊
Hello and welcome to week 3 of Bloom w/ Purple Star. The Deets:
The Good:
-Wow, big week for PSK. She's getting thicker and thicker by the day and outpacing my expectations at every turn. There is a lot of good going on and I'm not seeing any returning/recurring issues I faced 2+ weeks ago
-Flush of PSK went super and she very receptive. No burns, stress or negative reactions. Really happy with the run-off and the new daily feedings being administered. Really eliminates the majority risk of making a mistake. And if I do, there's always tomorrow to fix it👍
-I'm kinda looking forward to seeing if she will have any unique coloring's as bloom continues... The previous damage on some of the top fans isn't bad at all but will be visible until the end. Fingers crossed the mosaic patterns come through with attractive colors and not just fall apart, lol
The Bad:
-😀
The 'Meh':
-Trying to control humidity...that's it. It was a good week👌
Notes of the Week:
-Stretch is @ an end for for all four ladies and they're all bulking up. I'm finally starting to see the real potential behind them and it's getting exciting. Dutchy and SC are going to be thiiiick. The way they're moving already, this'll be a good show. PSK has kinda come out of nowhere and is pushing a crazy amount of substantial bud sites. She was very recently really effed up and I wholly presumed she would be the small and sparse one, not GDPB. Really pleasant surprise.
-Aforementioned flush was performed on all and the numbers will be listed below. No issues at all with any of them. Didn't droop out and were praying the whole way through. The new feeding schedules and this flush has given them back a lot of their vigor, something I've greatly missed for portion's of this grow.
-Heat is increasing where I live and with that comes high humidity evenings. It's been tough keeping the RH around 55% even with full extraction. I've put more fans in the under-canopy and moved my clip on fans to blow over the canopy to try and mitigate any standing water that may accumulate.
-As of now, clean up and defo is about 90% finished and the rest will be gone by the end of the week. Just seeing which smaller side laterals are the most vigorous so I can keep em and take the rest. Still limited my mains to about 8-12 per plant. Under canopy of PSK and GDPB, though, will need a dual harvest as there's a lot of potential down there and I'd like to let it ripen a tad more. I feel it'll be worth it in the end😀
Run-Off's. 2 Gallons run through each girl w/ about 20-25% Run-off:
SC: 6.2/6.3pH and 955ppm
DD: 6.1/6.2pH and 947ppm
GDPB: 6.2/6.3pH and 1028ppm
PSK: 6.2pH and 1077ppm
**Back too daily feedings w/ nutrients at 1/2 dose over 3 days with water feeds in between**
Niiiice and short. Thanks for popping by all. Have a great week and I'll see you around. Cheers and stay safe out there👋✊
Howdy all and welcome to an explosive week w/ Purple Star, Week 4 Bloom. The Deets:
The Good:
-Hot damn, this girl blew up this week😐. She's moving and stacking up real quick and it's a great show. Thick and fuzzy with bud sites out the ying-yang. Side laterals w/ substantial tops are pumping out the sides as well. Holy crap man, ha! Loving it.
-Zero negative signs or symptoms, praying on a daily basis from morning to night, taking feeds extremely well and is all round has become the most vigorous girl in the tent now.
-Interesting terpene profile, but it's still early to tell what exactly is going on here. Feel like I smell berries but there may be a floral hue as well(?). The batter for terpene domination begins!
The Bad:
-Mmmmmm nope.
The 'Meh':
-High humidity still but should be okay. Nothing else, all good👍
Notes of the Week:
-Kinda random, but I'm considering taking some correspondence classes/courses on plant biology and commercial agriculture/horticulture. Only bringing it up cause I don't know where I would even start. Anyone with information that could help me out would be greatly appreciated. It's a busy field and I don't want to get ripped off!
-Won't be including anymore 'current height' photo's as all the girls have tapped out and the stretch is officially over. Several inches left for bud growth, just in case👍.
-Things are a little easier to move now after I pulled both GDPB and PSK inwards a bit. The squat beasts in the back are still a pain but I can move the two tallest girls w/ ease now, giving me access to the girls out of reach. Soon I'll suck them further inwards with a 2" wide, non-static cloth band, about 1/3 the way up. It's a really easy application and has worked really well in the past two grows. To adjust, just sliding it up and down will open up or close the canopy.
-For consistency sake, Flora-liscous has been cut and I've turned to Green Planet's "Liquid Weight". Zero issues thus far. Hoping to see good results with this one.
-Going back to Emerald Harvest's potassium silicate to help shore the girls up as they pack on more weight. I know it's harmless stuff, but I did cut it for a bit when things weren't going too well. Didn't want to push my luck, but I think it's more then okay to go back to now.
-In all further entries the Nutrient portion will be the full dose used over a period of 3 days, not all in one go. Since I'm on daily feedings now, I don't really know how to record that, so this is the best I can come up with.
**Happy news. I officially have the funds to purchase a second quantum board and complete my 4x4 lighting footprint!😃 Haven't purchased anything yet, and pretty certain I'll be using a second SF-2000 (or two SF-1000's), but I am looking around for equivalents and any new, fair priced, high quality lamps that may be a better fit. Hoping to make the decision, purchase the lamp and put it into operation by Week 6 of Bloom. Fingers crossed I can finish up and ripen all four of these girls under a new quantum in place! Excited!**
Happy frigging Canada Day!!!!!😀😀 Smoke one for this great country my friends! Celebrate the right to light up and grow! Take care and I'll see you all next week. Cheers and happy trails!👋✊
*Any quantum board suggestions, or whether you'd prefer two lamps over one? Please leave em below with a link! Thanks!*
Hello folks and welcome to Week 5 of Bloom with Mr. Purple Star. This'll be short. The Deets:
The Good:
-Stacking like a beast and shedding trichs like there's no tomorrow. Adjusted feeding schedule at a higher ec has proven to kick her in the ass and her bud development is clearly moving at a faster rate.
-Great strength in her mains and laterals. Holds her own even with bracing wires removed. Splays a bit but has zero issues holding that weight. The potassium silicate I added back into the regiment seems to be doing it's job and she's firming/shoring up nicely
The Bad:
-A four week streak. Hot damn!
The 'Meh':
-Some early browning of some pistils (in my mind) but the SF was backed off and it stopped. Into week 6 now, so I expect to see some brown pistils but I was hoping she would hold up for a little longer before starting to turn. Is what it is and new pistils have been popping with the new feed schedule. I feel all will be well.
-I see I could have done more pruning and taken more suckers, but again, it is what it is and this girl will most likely have a dual harvest, just like GDPB. I'll allow the lower growth to ripen and bud up a bit more before I do the second chop. Might be popcorn and LARFY, but quality is quality👌
Notes of the Week:
-Feeding schedule has been changed again with all girls as their needs are clearly high. Raised my EC to full dose feedings while keeping a couple additives @ 1/2 to see if there are any issues. If not, moving to full feeds for the remainder of the grow and help these girls achieve their full potential.
-SF-2000 comes tomorrow!!!!!!!!😀😀😀. It will be unpacked, tested and put into action immediately. She will be in all pictures next week. Stoked!
-Pulling all girls in now and trying to control their side laterals that have been pumping out and interfering with one another and/or the side of the tent. SC and DD haven't been done yet, but PSK and GDPB have been and movement has gotten quite a bit easier.
-Decided already that Green Planet nutes aren't for me but will finish up this grow with their line (except a couple additives from other suppliers). I am not a fan of the dosing and these manufacturers really need to assess what WE need to complete a grow. As it stands, by the end of this grow, there will be half of micro formula left, 80%! of grow formula, probably nothing left of Bloom and will probably run out of their Massive formula before the end of the grow. This is a box set that I purchased, so I fully expect that there will be adequate nutrients in that set to carry the entire grow without running out or having far too much excess left over. The concentrations also seem off and I feel they could do a far better job at optimizing their product instead of watering it down. A good example of a company selling a box set that WILL cover your needs comes from Future Harvest and will probably be the next line I run with. They know what you're going to need and what you're going to use. 1L Micro, 500ml Grow, 2L Bloom along with their veg and bloom additives. They know damn well I'll be using a lot more Bloom and micro then grow, so they adjusted it and aren't making us pay for the privilege of more product we won't even use. (This turned into a ramble, HA! Oops)
Run-Off Reads:
GDPB Last Read: 6.2/6.3pH and 1028ppm
GDPB New Read: 6.2ph and 915ppm
PSK Last Read: 6.2pH and 1077ppm
PSK New Read: 6.1pH and 1200ppm (Higher then expected, but a suspected dirty pan may be the culprit. Forgot to clean before hand and it warped the run-off reads. All is well)
Told you that would be short👍😀. Have a great week everyone! I'll catch you on the flip side and I hope you all have success with your projects. Much love, take care and see ya later👋✊
**Special Note Edit** I've been seeing many beautiful and unknown/unseen grows and growers as of late. Some or most of these individuals are very talented but don't have too many eyes on their projects. I started on Monday by tagging a grower and I feel I will tag a new grower twice a week, every week. These are just growers that I respect. Growers that are helpful, supportive and share the obsession. They may not get many views (yet) but if you all are interested, please to check them out and give em some love. I feel their efforts and grows deserve such love. The second person I'm tagging is @quackerjack. This dude has been supporting me and others for a looong time, puts out beautiful specimens and beauty bud. If you're looking for a good person to follow, a good person to talk too, this is the guy🙂. Check it out if you haven't already! Thanks all and happy trails👍
A day late and a buck short, ha! Here's Week 6 of Bloom w/ Purple Star Killer. The Deets:
The Good:
-PSK had a massive week and has been bulking up very well. Cola stacks are starting to bulk and she's starting to build single, full columns of bud. Frosty as all hell and no signs of stopping. Just caked in goodness😀
-In the breeder's terpene profile, they mentioned berries, but I didn't expect her to be sooo fruity. Her scent becomes more and more defined by the day. Very pleasant.
-Taking increased nutrient dosing very well and has been taking it in stride. Only the slightest burns on the tips of a couple fans. Totes fine w/ me👌
The Bad:
-Another really good week. No bad.
The 'Meh':
-So, it happened. No more PK booster and one more dose of Bloom left from Green Planet. Dosing is whack, man. Need to make a trip to the hydro shop now, but will pick up a set of Future Harvest's line (Personal Grow Box and Personal Flowering Box set).
-Little too busy of an inner canopy. Going to need to clean her up a little bit this week.
Notes of the Week:
-As mentioned in DD and SC's entries the SF-2000 has come in, been tested and has been in operation since last Thursday. It. Is. Godly. Love it and so do they.
-Pulled and formed GDPB and PSK. Super easy to move now. Not getting hung up and barley touching the edges of the tent. Good Form👌. DD and SC will need to be pulled in a bit this week. They hold their own and don't need bracing, but man do they need to be a tad smaller so I can actually move 'em.
-I'm still recording my run-offs for a bit. Not concerned too much with the readings, but need a ballpark measurement to see if my new feeding schedule is working. It is...but definitely needs some more work and refining. PPM's seem to have spiked a little bit and that shouldn't happen...😵. Looking at their top-sides to see what I'm giving too much of. A couple tentative schedule changes have been made, but I'll observe this week to see if what I have planned is actually a good idea or not. Below are last run-off's read and yesterdays numbers.
-Random note... I brought back my buddies 4 dying plants😃. After 8 months he finally allowed me to interject and help him out. Super stubborn older fella that's stuck in old habits. My first flush readings were -5pH and +4000ppm. Like, wow. It's been two weeks and another application/flush/micro-dose @ 6.7/6.8pH has brought them out of the worst of it. I'm hoping another week and another nutrient flush through will bring them back to normalcy. Did the second process today with him and halved the ppm's above, while raising pH by +.4-.5 per plant. A good start, but a ways to go. Wish me luck, lol!👌😄
*Run-off's*
Previous Run-off (June 18th): 6.3pH and 1077ppm ( a little low....)
New Run-off (July 15th): 6.2pH and 1514ppm (small spike...)
That's her folks! Thanks all for stopping by and I wish you all a happy and fruitful week. Take care all you gardeners, catch you on the flip side👋👊 (Will be editing and tagging a new grower to check out by tomorrow! Cheers)
Howdy all and welcome to Week 7 of Bloom w/ Purple Star Killer. The Deets:
The Good:
-This. Plant. Is. Sooooooo Sticky. Anything she touches glistens in sap. It's weird becuase she's not terribly trichome heavy, but the resin coming off her is the fruitiest, best smelling thing I've put my nose on for awhile.
-She's a very interesting girl. Her buds are very dense and heavy. She's got a lot going on in her lower canopy and there are nuggets everywhere. I may have not done myself any favors for when I have to trim, but each one of these nuggets is going to break up very large. Thickest, densest buds of all 9 strains I've had my hands on so far.
-Her pheno's are coming through and yah... purple. It's in the name but you never know😅. Her top fans are slowly turning in, getting darker and showing hues of purple/blue. Her buds are also starting to take on a bit of color and this would also be a happy surprise.
The Bad:
-Notta
The 'Meh':
-Sometimes I feel like she's "stalled out" and isn't budding up very quickly, even with feedings that are too her liking. I also feel I should have taken more under-growth when I had the chance. As stated above, I'm happy with the little, lower nugs, but now I'm thinking she's not able to support so much (?). Idk. Ten bucks says I'm being paranoid again.
-Weather. Get your sh*t together and be consistent for more then 20 minutes.
Notes of the Week:
-All girls still have a ways to go. All trich's are transparent and there are only a few cloudy sticky trees's here and there. Space Cookies will probably be the first to go and is further along then the others. Other then that, it's just a waiting game and checking trich's daily.
-Went back to King Kola by Emerald Harvest this week. Ran out of Massive by GP and not going for more. KK worked very well last grow and there has been no issue in it's application to any of the girls this round either. Running Mid-Bloom dosing (higher dose) and this may prolong my bloom a tad. Non-issue if they need more time though.
-It appears the adjustment to my feed schedule worked out and besides a couple burnt tips here and there, they took the transition well and are taking what I'm giving. I'm not seeing any negative symptoms or issues with any of them, atm.
Thanks for reading all! Very happy with PSK, especially from where she was not too long ago. I should be happy that she's alive, let alone doing so well. I hope you all have a great week and I plan on catching you all on the flip side👍. Busy week coming up and I'll do my best to check in with your projects. Cheers and keep rockin' all👋👊
Hello all you happy growers. This is Week 8 of Bloom w/ Purple Star. The Deets:
The Good:
-Putting on a lot of weight and getting top heavy these days. She even seems to have picked up her trichome production as well... Not sure why, but cool👍
-Pumping out tonnes of resin and leaves are getting stuck to bud sites. Like a fly trap, it's essentially stuck there and pull it off just rips off the tip, lol.
The Bad:
-No bad, just trying to understand who this plant is exactly...
The 'Meh':
-I've said it before and I'll say it again, what a weird plant... I don't know what to think about her atm. She's healthy and seemingly happy. Pushing buds and all that. But I'm not too sure of the genetics as she's nearing her end. She's getting heavier but not putting on size, you know? I don't know how to explain what I'm seeing and it's not really a concern, just don't know what to expect with this one. I have faith but I'm going to reserve my expectations until the end.
-Heat is crazy for the girls right now and we're just trying to get through it. Doing what I can but fox tailing is occurring here and there with her
Notes of the Week:
-Hot, eating a lot, and some burnt tips on all girls. No amount of fans or extraction will fix what I got.
-Had to string up PSK and GDPB w/ yoyo's for getting so top heavy on such lanky laterals. Suppose that's a good thing though👍
-Hoping to have all the girls chopped down in 2-3 weeks and getting ready to go for grow #4. Found my new genetics (already got em😀) and waiting for my first seed exchange to arrive! I have choices to make now.... not really sure what's going in and only know of one that I'm 100% on. When I know I'll speak of it in future.
-Starting to consider the move to soilless for grow #5. It's a ways away but trying to plan ahead and piece out what I'm looking for. I think it'll be time by then, to try something new and learn a bit more about different methods. I'll be bothering a few of you in the near future here. See what you do and how you do it👌.
Thanks for stopping by all and checking out this weeks edition of PSK. Hope all is well and you have a great week and happy grows. Cheers👋✊
I'm late! Here's the end of Week 9, Bloom w/ Purple Star Killer. The Deets:
The Good:
-An actual super week with PSK and she has impressed me... Was unsure about her for a bit. In terms of trich Dev. and girth she seemed to be lacking, but this week the shedding started and it has not let up. Getting caked up now and I'm more then pleased to see her working so hard. My faith in her has risen greatly👍
-Jeez man, she's dense (in a good way). Every bud is super heavy and tight, just oozing resin. The buds have little to no give when I give em a squeeze. Absolutely solid👌
-Starting to get the amber trichs I was looking for and this girl is also ready to go very soon.
The Bad:
-No bad👍
The 'Meh':
-Aforementioned density of the buds is making her very top heavy. That and my stoner bends in Veg aren't doing me any favors right now, lol! The "S"-shaped bends don't carry well and they are leaning. Had to add a lot of tyes and put on a strap to keep her in order. Yoyos are being used in the tent on the heaviest tops to keep them from any damage. Every time I move her however, stuff shifts and I have to work on her again. Really don't want to move her at all anymore. Not until the chop, anyway.
-High heat and some fox tails. PSK and SC seem to be the least affected though, so I'm not too concerned.
Notes of the Week:
-Sunday/Monday will be Space Cookies final day w/ Dutchy close behind and tentatively chopping on Tuesday/Wednesday. PSK and GDPB are touch and go, but should be wrapped up by the end of next week (August 14/15th).
-Slow turn in on GDPB and PSK, but DD and SC are fading perfectly in my eyes. Pretty autumn colors everywhere😀. Hoping the other two girls start to fade and we can finish this thang.
-Dry tent is set up and my new 4x3x6 tent came in today. Going to set her up and get ready for a quite turnover. I will most likely be starting these girls in a separate location as it's technically illegal to do it while GDPB and PSK still stand...😒 Stupid bylaws (it's a seedling...) but will abide by it to keep myself out of harms way. Will probably be a pain, but buying those extra two weeks will be worth it👍 (right?)
-Been dreaming relatively big lately, lol. Been writing up and scaling draft's for expansion, ranging from a 12 plant to 36 plant grow. Calculating loads, costs, rent, etc... It's a pipe dream at the moment, but I'm going to keep entertaining the thought😉. I'll withhold my expectations, but hey, nice to have a goal👌.
-FIRST SUCCESSFUL SEED EXCHANGE! I did a seed exchange with a friend on GD and everything went swimmingly 👌. Worked out and we both have our respective packages😀. I received x1 Gorilla Zkittles, x1 Ayahuasca Purple, x1 Critical Kush, x1 White Widow, x1 Gelato OG and x1 BANANA KRUMBLE! All from Barney's and Seedsman, except for BK which is coming from GHSC. Thanks to you my friend for trusting me and doing this with me👍 It was fun and we know it'll work in future if we ever want to do er' again😀😉. Cheers man!
Thank you allllll very much for stopping by and checking out PSK😊. Super busy still! But I'm loving your projects folks. Everything looks golden everywhere I look. You people know what you're doing! Cheers and happy trails all my grow friends. Much love and peace to you all.✊👋
**August 24th Edit** Decided not to do another update on PSK or GDPB and will go directly to their Harvest entries w/ all pictures of their final days included👍. Thanks folks! See you next week with these girls final update😀
Just like GDPB this will be a quick and dirty update as I wasn't expecting to need to do it. Postponed chop for a full week, so here's the quick deets for this week:
The Good:
-Dense! Sticky as Hell! Final trich push and a little more has been put on. She's in good shape👍
-Holding together very well in her final days. She's turning in finally and all looks well with her. Touch more time and things will come up aces.
-Run-Down is going well and there are no adverse/negative reactions.
The "Meh":
-Super top heavy and half the colas are being propped up with yoyo's. Stoner bends are making her weaker as time goes on and I need to be careful that I don't accidentally super crop herself, lol!😂
-Too many tops... Didn't do myself any favors and there's going to be a poop tonne of trimming to do with her😬. Oh well, haha. It'll be a long sticky day.
Notes of the Week:
-Dutch Dragon was also postponed but she will not be getting an update. She is being taken down on the 16th, GDPB on the 19th and PSK on the 20th. There won't be a postponement this time. They will assuredly be finished.
-Space Cookies is allll dry and I'm shocked... Thinking I would be luck to get 2 ounce, but this dense chick put out about 3 ounce of solid product. Frigging Sweet👌
-Next grow will start up pretty quick but the first update probably won't come down for two weeks. I did decide on a proxy location to keep er legal. Will have full access to them, it'll all be okay.
Thanks for stopping by for this quick update. Next time she'll be on her final day and chopped👍. Have a great day and I'll catch you all again very soon. Cheers happy growers👋✊
What a hard "Meh" this plant/smoke is. This has to be my least favorite strain grown to date and I'm not terribly pleased with the genetics. I'm positive Purple Star is a hell of a strain, but these specific genetics are trashy. Every breeder note was false, from potency to yield, to flowering time. The smoke is barely serviceable, hardly tasty, somewhat smooth, but all around a let down. She smells far better then she tastes and smokes, as well. This plant is going in for concentrates...simple as that. There's no Jam here, just high school caliber weed.
Howdy folks! Real late to the party on this one, but to be fair I really didn't care much for this plant so I got a tad lazy on her final Harvest. Believe it or not, this will be quick and dirty as I don't have much to say about this plant. The Deets:
Hard let down with PSK. Jumping right into the positives, negatives, smoke report, weights and final notes.
The Positives:
-Bounced back after some hard times when I thought she was a goner.
-Did have some relatively good lateral strength but my stoner bends in late veg made her wonky.
-Resin Dev was quite good even with the lack of trichome production
The Negatives:
-Very fickle and unhappy girl. Have fun finding her sweet spot, it seemingly changes every day. Lots of work and adjustments to keep this plant happy, when her final product wasn't worth the effort.
-Sub Par Bud and Trichome development. This plant was supposedly supposed to be 29%? Hahaha. Big lie, thanks guys👍. This is no more then 16% for eff's sake.
-Hard to control. Hammy strain that doesn't amount to much.
-Just bad genetics... I don't see this as a real test of a Purple Star Killer and I'm positive other breeders have far more competent and versatile genetics to go on. All I know is that this ain't it, and PSK is far better then the product these specific genetics were sporting.
-More "Meh's" and negatives, but just know it's not good...
Strain and Product Review:
What can I say...in for concentrates she goes. Terpene profile is weak w/ hints of berries, pepper and earth. The potency just isn't there and to get to my wheel house, I need to smoke far too much of this and end up just scorching my throat. Buds are NOT dense in anyway when they looked like they would be. Water retention dropped and they're far too fluffy. Full jars that only clock in at 30 grams, whereas the others are only 1/2 to 3/4 full with more product in each. Smokes well enough, but there is NO JAM! This has been shelved for concentrates folks. There's nothing here. The most I've done with it so far is just give it away... for free. Some people I know have lower tolerances and don't smoke much, so I just handed it off to them and it seems to be up their alley...who knows, free weed! lol.
The Numbers (Before I took final weights I gave at least a half (14 Grams) of this bud away, but I won't be counting it... is what it is. Here's the numbers):
Jar #1 Whole Bud- 30 Grams (1.07 ounce)
Jar #2 Whole Bud- 34 Grams (1.21 ounce)
Jar #3 Popcorn- 27 Grams (.96 ounce)
Total Product: 91 Grams (3.25 ounce)
Final Notes:
If you grow this strain, find a better breeder my friends. I know it's better then this...I just bought junk. Buyer beware of un-vetted breeders. Learned another lesson here and I've dropped my relationship with i49 (did so two weeks into this grow actually). Failed and/or half cooked genetics all round. Have fun with them👍. Oh, they also have guarantees that they won't honor...they'll just blame you, no matter how much evidence you provide. So, all in all, bad genetics, sub par product (that's generous), false breeder notes and will fight tooth and nail to deny you their guarantee. It's all smoke and mirrors, beware please.
Anywho! What a crappy plant😅. Thanks all for helping me get this one to the end. It was a tough ride and the product may not have been worth it, but! I did learn a shit tonne, especially when it comes to genetic quality and versatility. Canuk seeds can expect an email from me shortly as well. Selling old and disheveled seeds that aren't popping. Thanks for the garbage! I blamed myself for the failures until it was clear it's a you problem! not me.
**In two days Ayahausca Purple, Glookies, Violator Kush and Gorilla Zkittles will be thrown up. They're up and at er, moving along pretty well (No hot soil this time😅). See you all on the flip side! Cheers and Happy Trails** And yes! this was "short" for me, hahaha
Holy cow.... MR?..Purple Star..... I dont hope so😂
And heyyyy... your new Lights will arrive soon , thats great!!!!
And yes,,,, networking is very Important.. greeat Idea in Tagging ppl
I wish you a great Start into the new Week and enjoy the setting up of the new Lights
@Mrs_Larimar, Lol, I didn't see that typo😅. Good eye!
Light came and is in use. Hurray!!👍 I love it, and I'm very lucky to have it🙂.
I wish you a super productive and happy week w/ the girls. I'll keep tagging people👍. It's fun! Cheers Mrs. Larimar 🙂
@Grey_Wolf, Heck ya man. I've tried before but red flags went up and it never happened, haha. There was really good trust and accountability here. I knew he wouldn't screw me over🙂. Give er a try 🐺😀.
Hey Jinks! I am sure its gonna end up very well 🙂✌️
I have also little bit of block on my ladies right now. Thats why i am telling you that the seedlings are really tricky lol. I always hate this stage.
Keep your head up and keep going! Good luck! ✌️
@@@Alexa, Thanks so much man. It's been a slog so far, but the emergency transplant did the trick, looks like. This project won't be scrapped 👍. Still a little weak but growing quite well. I'm happy what I did worked cause the last 20 things didn't help, lol!
I shall keep my head up if you do too👊. Solidarity brother. Happy trails this week🙂
Nice hints from your " Electric-Side"...….Thank you for pointing at this. I got to admit my Electric Installation is … aaaahm…...well i have to work on... that means mountingthe switches etc. I love your Electric Installation
And the timers… i just hate them…….I hope for new invetion of Timers who are preinstalled for 3 times. Iam Fighting with those fogging Things every time. because there are too many Options to take. So i ended in having 12 h timers and 18 hour timers^^
@JinksyGrows, yes that would be nice to have preinstalled Timers who just went on every day on the time you want to, just in pushing one switch-
I know its manageable because My HAZELBOX, does it like this - I got 4 buttons, one is On off, one is 18 hours weaker Vegetation light, one is 18 hours strronger Vegetation light, and one is fow flower 12/12
No more needs. but if i want i can change programm in lightning and hours, but i never didi.
Its just so easy... and thats what i whish from a timer. 4 buttons and done
Oh yes pls tell us alittle about electric installation.... id love it
@Mrs_Larimar, Wouldn't it be nice to have a normal, well built timer just for the times we use? No screwing around? Haha. I'll hit the drawing board😅. You want 20/4, 18/6 and 12/12? Haha, I'll actually look into it.
And hey, as long as your operation is safe, it doesn't have to look nice. Safety over looks is totally okay👍. With the response I received on that little electrical tip, I may add more in the coming weeks. Just little things like cable management, inline motor controls and how to set them up...? We'll see! Cheers Mrs_Larimar and thanks for stopping by. Happy trails with the girls this week. I'll be popping over to your page to check out all the happening's😉👊
😀😀😀😂😀 very good details in your review.
For bad grow I don’t spend effort at all. But it is good for the community to know.
Thanks for taking the time.
@Med_in_Tropic, I really appreciate that man...cause I didn't really want to do it, haha. But ya, had to share and give a heads up about a couple banks. Not too pleased, but really just another learning curve ... lesson learned😅
@Mrs_Larimar, Even though high yeilds are great, I'm focused on quality and definitely don't mind less🙂. Her fruit will be worth it for sure. With your diary and others...I really need to grow her. She's so impressive 😍
Maybe try a finisher like overdrive or swell you might get that fast build in the last 3 weeks your looking for. You may already be using something similar as I'm not familiar with liquid weight or diamond nector but I can't recommend swell or overdrive enough they double weight in the last 3 weeks.
@ROM101, Howdy ROM! Yah buddy, not sure what exactly is going on, but I do use liquid weight by Green Planet. It seems to be bumping up trich production but not really firming up the buds, as advertised. I also have "dense" from Green Planet, but I'm a little afraid to use it😅. Potent stuff man. That being said, I'm going to apply it for the final week/two weeks and see if it helps. I needed to start it 1-2 weeks ago...but it's worth a shot and I feel I got nothing to loose.
Thanks for the advice my friend👍. I'm really trying to unlock the potential in these last week's, but hey, it is what it is🙂.
@Med_in_Tropic, I agree man. I feel pretty lucky to have so much support. Why not try and spread the love and help some great growers get some eyes on their fine work🙂. I'm a big believer in cannabis culture and trying to pay it forward. This is my small attempt to support the community 👍.
Hello buddy.. Hope you are well.. I wud personally get another sf2000.. Starting wit 2 on dim at 50% will b same par wot ur getting now but wider spread.. U getting great results of 1 so imagine wen u crank both them bad boys up 100% in flowering.. Since putting 2 sf600 over my 600w hps ive noticed a positive difference in yeild and resin.. And remains cooler than cranking up hps to 660w..great lights.. I do like the mars hydro sp range tho.. These wud b my go-to lights from now on.. A couple of these added are great additions to any grow in my opinion.. Stay safe n gud luck on ur huge selection of lights atm.. Great times for us growers.. 👍🍀
@Jef79, I pm'd you! Thanks man! You put a bug in my ear now about the two SF-600's. If I can get away with two of those instead of two 1000's, I certainly will! Thanks again for your two cents man👍. Appreciated😀
Nice to see you landed on the Green Planet line - it's got a good name at least. Can't wait for the post grow report 😉
Enjoy the next few weeks - they will be growing beautifully.
@HazeyBobby, Haha, right? I saw green planet and I for flash backs to my childhood 😅. I shall enjoy my grows as long as you do too buddy👍. I have a feeling we're going to have some big girls here pretty quick.
wonderful flat canopy,,,,,, wooow....
its sometimes challenging to bend the plant.....but most time it pay out.....
lets talk the next days some words in pm....
@@JP148, It sure does. But hey, I needed concentrates and it would be hard to give up the others for that, so this (in a weird way) kinda worked out...? Lol! I'm sure it will be a good, mild and functional oil product👍
@@JP148, There's the update! Poopy plant😅😭😅. Is what it is and looked pretty decent, but the bud just doesn't do er. There are better PSK genetics out there, I know it.
@Med_in_Tropic, Sigh* Ain't that the truth. They've done a lot of damage. It will take time to crush reefer madness, but hopefully sooner then later.
Trust me, I will not tire of pushing the good word and I probably annoy a lot of people in the process 😅. I can happily say that I consult older people (mostly) on cannabis, that grew up in the reefer madness era. They're starting to get wise that they were lied too... That there is nothing wrong with cannabis and the proof is all around them. I'll go for coffee with them, educate them on the nuance, the uses, the past fears, side affects, etc... 75% of the time, they go for it and haven't looked back. Bye bye to the opiodes and benzo dependency, hello CBD and a healthier way of living👍(I was on those prescriptions too, for a looong time). I feel good everytime I take money out of big Pharma's pocket. F@$k em.
Another long response 😅. Sorry! If you can get it for dirt cheap (and it should be) absolutely go for it👍. I had no idea it was in concrete, haha. But it makes sense as a bonding agent(?). Neat!
@JinksyGrows, it will takes a while to undo generations of brain washing. Please don't get too tired of saying about the benefit of legalization.
Potassium silicate is used at work to harden concrete. Cost is under two dollars per kilo. Dosage is probalby a gram per liter. I think I'll ask a friend to get me 100 grams or so to try on some extra clones.
@Med_in_Tropic, Thanks man. It was a really ugly raining day where I am but that didn't stop me from going out and smoking one with some buddies! Really, really hope the rest of the world is watching and sees that NOTHING bad happened when we legalized, that there's lots of tax revenue available, hospital visits related to opiodes and alcohol are down, intoxicated drving is way down, violence at bars is down.... and on and on. It's time to legalize. Objective proof that cannabis is a positive force, not a negative one, is evident and I really hope the world's governments wake up and end this farse. Smoking freely yesterday made me sad for all the people on here growing in the shadows for fear of consequences and/or jail time. It's saddening and the fear needs to stop😞. (oop! short unexpected rant, haha!)
And potassium silicate was recommend to me by @Mrs_Larimar about half way through my second grow. It's simply a soluble source of potassium and silicon and has worked very well for me and the girls by helping shore up cell walls and giving them strength to carry their flower weight. There are powder versions but it's extremely unhealthy to accidentally inhale it. It's pure earth sediment/silicate and can cause serious lung issues, lol. NOPE😐! I went with a liquid version by Emerald Harvest that has proven to work really well👍. That being said, you could easily get away with a cheaper product like Gaia Green, that carries it's own version that's waaaay cheaper w/ a much larger amount.
I'll keep posting about it as I'm hoping to see some more rigidity with it's use to the end of flower, too👍. Cheers man! sorry for the long ass response, haha!
