18 April 2020: Day 1 for CD, just poked head above soil. Zkittlez went in this morning.
20 April 2020: Zkittlez just came up. Will count them as same day for simplicity sake but it’s recorded here.
2 May 2020: Day 15. Ziptied the light to top of tent to get maximum height. Zkittlez is dropping just a touch, this didn’t fix it though. Maybe it was the nitrogen feed. Color on the chemdogging is dark green now so will leave out the biogrow next feed. Still haven’t decided how I want to top/train these, will see what week 3 brings.
Day 22, all good, most healthy leaves I’ve ever had. The nute schedule is getting dialled in, calmag from the onset has made a big difference as usually my plants would be slowing deficiencies by now. They look like they’re about to go into flower this week.
Day 26, starting to stretch now, still all good. Upped feeding yesterday to 1L each, same nutes but introduced a half dose of bloom just as a preventative measure as they go into flower (will start all bloom nutes from next week). The Zkittlez is pretty bushy with huge fan leaves. Removed 3 so far that were completely covering flower sites and couldn’t be easily tucked.
Day 38, still going well, no issues whatsoever. Both plants growing strongly. Stretch seems mostly over now, happy enough with plant structure. Following biobizz schedule at full strength apart from the grow which I’m leaving out.
Day 45, still going well. Weather is very hot and dry atm but plants don’t seem to be minding too much. Seeing some slight yellowing on one or two of the bottom CD leaves so introduced .5 grow.
Day 57, buds all formed now, waiting for them to bulk. Smell has got stronger, particularly the chemdog. Some deficiencies creeping in on the bottom leaves, could be natural or maybe I shouldn’t have tapered off the Calmag. Back to 1ml of that now.
Day 62, got a lot of yellowing over night on both plants, right around the same time it happened with the Forgotton Cookies. May be natural as they head into their last few weeks, though it did coincide with me missing a days watering both times... Need to be vigilant during week 9 it seems. Checked the ph again and in was 6.1 with all biobizz added, which I adjusted to 6.5. Runoff measured at 6.6, so ph shouldn't be an issue. Removed some of the bottom badly damaged leaves, mostly from the Chemdog, which is also showing a Phosphorous deficiency. Zkittlez seems to be doing more of a natural fade.
Day 64, so week 9 hasn’t been a good week in that both plants seem to have come down with major deficiencies. I have no idea why, ph seems fine. I may have over fed with full strength Biobizz? Then again the zkittlez seems more like it needs nitrogen so introduced some more of that to see. Buds still look nice just a shame to see after them starting so healthy.
Day 73: the yellowing seems to have stabilised and we’re now heading towards the finish. Trichs look cloudy but no amber yet. Overall the chemdog looks more impressive than the zkittlez, smells better too. Hopeful for a good return off both.
Day 78, not much happening, just waiting for trichs to looks good before chop. Zkittlez is probably closer, CD still looks very clear. Dropped light to 100w yesterday to try and help them hang in there, zkittlez has started yellowing again quite badly on the sugar leaves.
Day 87. Last week, started flush yesterday, will likely harvest Saturday all being well. Trichs look nicely cloudly on both, with the odd amber here and there. I'm starting to spot nanners on the chemdogging, and maybe the odd one on the zkittlez. I'm not very good at this...
Chemdogging was another enjoyable grow, and I'm very happy with my 65g. This is my first time getting that yield in a 12L pot rather than the 20L. Compared to my previous grows, adding calmag from the start seemed to help a lot - leaves were extremely healthy right up until about week 3 of flowering. At that point the usual yellowing started to kick in...
My general feeling is the plants are still not 100% happy with my light setup. The new "135w max height from seed" approach seemed to work, but the long maturation times, deficiencies, as well as it throwing out several nanners in the last week possibly means I need to dial it back further. For next grow I'll try not going above 100w, and also not being so heavy handed with the nutes in general.
It was interesting to run this along side a Mephisto to see how Fastbuds holds in practice. Unfortunately overall I'm not impressed with these genetics.
Pros:
* Tester nugs seem to indicate decent potency is there
* Some very nice fruity terps
Cons:
* The plant stayed very small and dense. It was so leafy that despite defoliation and LST it was basically just a few colas and a mass of leaves. I do need to get my humidity down but was not surprised to find bud rot on the main cola.
* It is noticeably lest frosty than the Chemdogging that was done along side it.
* Despite the plant being so compact, the structure of the buds themselves is bad. Really loose and leafy, lots of the bigger colas just broke apart into larf that was not well developed and hard to trim into anything useful.
* The yield was 42g compared to Mephistos 65g. I'm not a good grower but most diaries I've seen on here for Zkittlez are giving those numbers, with plenty even lower than that.
Overall, I'm looking forward to smoking the cured product, but Fastbuds need to work on breeding some of the above traits out, which I don't feel they've taken the time to do on this strain.
