Welcome to a new hydro diary, this time we are running a Fastbuds Wedding Cheesecake in a Mason Jar DWC system. The Jar has 3 liters capacity so it should be plenty for an autoflower "Bonsai" :)
This will be my tester plant for this strain, as always will run the new Fastbuds strains in 3 different media to see how they behave in each, this way its easy for me to find new strains I like in hydro and some in a Soil / Soilless mix.
So far she is growing very nice, grows quick, she is around 9 days old since germination, so this diary basically starts in week 2, which is something I will start doing with all diaries as the first week looks pretty much the same for all plants.
This will be an interesting run as I never ran a DWC in a reservoir this small, its hard to guess the size the autos can reach in these but it should be decent as autos don't need much root space in hydro anyway, depends on the strain of course but most don't make a huge root ball.
Week 2 for the Wedding Cheesecake, she is growing very strong now, the root system starts to establish and the growth rate per day increased a lot.
Fedding still the same, will increase slightly next week, other than that not much to report as she literally just sat in the tent and grew all week. 🙌
Week 3 for the Wedding Cheesecake in my Hydrojar, she is doing great and started to really stretch, perfect timing as I moved her in the flower tent now.
On this one I only did some selective defoliation and stemm bending to get her into shape, she is pretty balanced now and ready to pack on size, the rootball still has lots of room in the 3 liter jar.
Feeding is slightly increased to 3ml/l of ph Perfect base fertilizer and some great white, other than that no changes.
Waiting to see how long she takes to get in the jar of nutrients and then decide if I increase the feeding again or stay here.
Week 4 update on the Wedding Cheesecake, she stretched beautifully and very balanced, selective defoliation just helps balancing.
The is very tall already for the age, growing very fast.
Nutrients are on full feed now, 4ml/l.
As always in my diaries I let the images speak for themselves.
Another week of flower for the Wedding Cheesecake in one of my Hydro jars, she is not done yet, measured her today at 95 cm from lid to top, same height as some of the photos in the tent.
She loves the jar and the feed, I found a bent air line today so her oxygenation was cut of for a day but she didn't take a big hit from it, fixed it today.
The plant is balanced out very well with the side branches being even a big longer than the center cola and that is without any training, just selective defoliation which works great when you remove the right leaves.
Trichome production is strong now this week and she starts to smell very nice, excited about the coming weeks.
Another week for the Wedding Cheesecake and she is fattening up now, had her dry out and re fed her. Leaves curl a bit but the trichomes explode, the coating is really nice already and she has all the time in the world to finish.
4 liters seems to work well for these autos, 1 meter tall from jar top and 5 main colas, training was only selective defoliation to balance the center cola with the outer branches, she balanced nicely.
The smell is already incredible, can only imagine how this one will look and smell finished 🙏
A beautiful strain from Fastbuds once again, taste and flavor are top notch. The plant grew well in hydro and soil, producing dense sticky buds just as you would expect from Fastbuds.
So here we are, harvest update, even she was chopped a bit ago. I was super busy and hardly had time to document the harvest of my hydro jars but they all worked out nicer than I thought.
Both strains Wedding Chessecake and Orange Sherbet did really good in those small 4 liter jars. I did not even weigh the plant wet just what I had dried.
It was interesting to see how well the root system adapted to the small space, i'm currently running another hydrojar with which I will experiment with root pruning.
Cool experiment. I'm interested to see how she develop. Any concerns about root issues/algae setting in with your rez exposed to the light in a clear jar or do you have some sort of wrap that you use?
@Pot_Portraits huh, I never knew Great White and Orca had Bacillus Amyloliquefaciens. Good to know! I tried Orca early on in my first grow (still ongoing) and I thought it gave me root rot. I ended up flushing everything out and adding hydroguard. Maybe I misread the situation... hmm.
Is your formula a trade secret? 😏
@agricola, Great white is the same thing as hydro guard 😏, I never worry about res temps 🙌
my last plant the purple punch hit way high temps, easily 24 c and more but I found a formula that works 😎
Hey there,
Thanks so much for running a diary of our genetics 🙌
Let us know if you need any assistance, we’re more than happy to help.
Happy Growing !!! 🌱☘️🌴🍀🌿🌳
Hey, what a fun experiment, following. Someone told me, call it Day 1 when the first real leaves appear, that's approx. after the second week of germination. That's where I start Week 1 now. Happy day ☀️
Nice run! im impressed with your setup! i love it!
One question, if is possible... how many times do you change the water in the jar throughout the run?
Thanks for your diaries!
@Freedonia, thanks a lot !! In these Hydrojars with only 4 liter capacity the plant will start to drink the whole thing within now time :) I just use multiple jars, prepare one with fresh nutrients then just swap the jar out 👌
