Had many casualties on this training mission to try to tame some large autos. Mostly tops of plants i goofed on trying to hst them 3 nodes above the initial main stalk hst. Haven't had these casualties with photos so far, but where I didn't goof was promising.
The autos were the first to go because i was a bit less gentle than I should have staking them back down after they pulled their stakes. Didn't help that where they broke I hadn't trimmed the fan leaves that went with the nodes that had to go down there. Add the HST stiffness and it makes a lot of chance. However, breaking early the RQS had the best chance to recover, despite their weird shapes. They're the smaller ones, plus I just trained them down so they look real sad.
Everywhere i DIDNT break these autos when I HST'd, responded amazingly. I decided to limit myself to one main-stem HST.
moved out the finishing fastbuds green crack; top and bottom row third to the right are the diesel pair im fairly certain tho the labels got goofed way back. I'm cool with it.
HST seems good so long as I am careful even on autos.
some of the plants started later some got broken hence variations in size and progression
Been a little warmer and more humid than I'd expect or like, but I don't have central A/C or heat. These girls have been truckin though.
Been watering a whole gallon for each of the flowering tents cause I don't have a great way to keep up with the leftovers, so I gave all three tents a day to dry and they never noticed it. Must have been overdoing it.
Still not sure which ones are diesel think maybe front left, thought it used to be the third pair in each row but really idc its not even got any CBD; will ID it by smell/taste.
Reason I think that is its leaves but it used to be in back left by my intake booster fan and got a bit windburnt, which could have also (afaik?) caused it to put more silica in those leaves than the others.
Cut the rhizotonic. Need to buy more, rest is for plants vegging. LST'd the six plants that are between pre and post stretch phases. Culled a bunch of sucker limbs to attempt to create a canopy. Faster-maturing pair is 11" tall and in full flower. Went completely OCD. Pretty pleased with results.
Going to monitor for light burn, riding the lightning trying 12" on the less-mature six plants... as I noticed the taller ones are doing fine at that distance.
These babies are sucking down 11ml of canna every day, i don't get it. even with 5ml calmag they always seem to get iron def signs and whatnot if i try to skimp. i don't get it.
Had a hot day unexpectedly, a/c didnt get turned on fast enough, they dropped to 3 leaves -- probably because the light is so close. Not burning them, so I'll just try to watch the temp during the swings.
Bumped food up to 12. Rhizo still not here, but I've been trying to remember to add molasses for flavor at least.
Took a bunch of poorly developed crowding branches (suckers) throughout the week.
((EDIT: hopefully fixed pics. I just cropped the pictures of each pair, not feeling like pulling them out for individual white light photos tonight))
Flowering progressing well. Couple of youngest still not really going, they're going to be a pain when everything else is harvested and I need the cob tent.
12ML daily isn't *full* 'light feed' strength but I'm feeding it daily which is almost certain overkill. Any attempts to cut back have only met with iron def -- even with 4-5ml calimagic -- don't even know what to do. I guess i should get my tds/ec meter out and start testing the tap for the Canna calculator. The numbers it spits out are for every other day I think though?
Got more rhizo. Gave all three tents 8ml first night, 4ml second night.. from now on prolly 8 for seedling 4 for veg 2 for flower. Thoughts?
EDIT:
Whatever's making the back ones waxy and curled, I'm not sure -- none of the green crack I grew in coco had this issue.
Any of the pH spots I have I believe to be from just not being patient with my crappy pen when I do my balancing, as I have to do extensive balancing for the silica for all three tents.
These ones are a bit pickier I think. I didn't have these problems with this method with the seedsman critical mass or the fastbuds green crack, and I know some strains are more sensitive.
Thanks to @Tazard I have re-thought my "feed every day" strategy. I have been flushing with water to rid salts for a few days now, going to use the calculator for canna which recc's full strength tomorrow.
I was also overwatering and let them dry out good. Split a single gallon between all three tents, phed water, each day for three days. Then 2 gallons to each tent today for actual flushing. Going to let them dry out good after this; when I didn't water them the first day they perked up as though they had been in a drought and I fed them. I feel bad. I was going on autopilot watering them a gallon a day with food. Worked for my last batches.
Furthermore, I had not adjusted the light because they were not showing burn - however, I feel it is the source of stressing; losing fingers on my leaves. I have adjusted both Roleadro 400s to 16". Up quite a bit. Should help a lot.
They may have stressed down, but I am hoping their final waves of bud and resin will be more bountiful if I correct my mistakes.
Have resumed every other day feed. PH pen died so they went two days on dribbles of foliar like a champ. Have yanked the light up, debating yanking it more. They're not burning but I can't seem to get them to heal the finger count on their leaves.
I have decrowded by premature/early harvesting a lot of the crowding branches -- which tbh i should have already removed to prevent this. A lot of them are fairly far along in flower and while the bits I got won't mature completely... first off, they'd still be behind when I harvested because they're larf, and second I have to hope that the plant will direct more energy to the colas that now have room and circulation.
Closest AVT, the sparkliest one, is still 75% clear 25% partial cloudy. Got some time to get a bulk on as it appears to be the sativa dominant pheno and is rather light in the weight department.
It's very frosty though so I plan on doing no or minimal trimming and curing with frosty leaves. Probably should have culled more branches in its pre-flower phase for bulk but it made a lot of resin on all those branches so I should be good.
Reduced feed to the next stage on the schedule. Raised the lights a few times ending at 20". Hopefully they recover a bit from the light stress.. think I'll get more this way than by singing them for "more power".
Strapped them down again, which I hadn't planned on needing... and discovered that I could bend them a lot further than I expected to. They're a bit high lollipopped for how spread out i was really able to get them... but I'm hoping I caught them in time to help their next bulking cycles via circulation and light from defoliation. Also avoid mold or rot hopefully.
This made the decrowding I had done a bit redundant so a couple have some sparse areas. Oh well, I was out of bud. This always happens to me when autos keep growing, you'd think I'd learn. Still wager that most of what's gone would be really bad in terms of larf and mold risk. Hopefully power goes to more effective places.
Tried to get better photos, but with the equipment I have and my tremors it was no bueno. Best I could do.
The two plants closest to harvest are on flush, did some extra flushing with nothing but molasses on the others while they recovered from me raising the lights. I dont know if it was the silica or the spectrum of the cob but I didn't diagnose my light stress for a long time -- they didnt seem to be showing, just losing leaf fingers didnt know why. Perhaps the silica regimen? Either way they all foxtailed.
I don't have a setup immediately to do runoff testing unless it was like a once to check type of thing one at a time because that would take forever with 24 plants. I guess i need to painstakingly measure and find a wire mesh rack that fits the tent and a big gardening tray for runoff at some point. Going to do water every other day though instead of daily feeds.
Also have some trepidation about the 20% runoff also on the grounds of: they do better when they're not completely saturated and are getting oxygen only from the edges of the pot. So is it water extra and then feed less so they get a breather? Either way my PPM is fine for feed, still dunno on runoff. Think my problem was light stress though. The one in the back left that was the only one with yellowing leaves is actually greener either way.
Regardless they are both resinous and of appropriate yield i feel; could be better, but I also took a bunch of limbs that I thought were choking out the other colas to vape them.
Thoughts on Canna Boost? It's so expensive, it's not necc. an option for me; its supposed to work real good but sheesh it's more than AB! Also seeking opinions on calmag schedule; my tap is like 24ppm right now but I've been only giving 2ml instead of 4 to the flowers because someone advised it.
I need to double check, my scope is a cheap pos, but I think the sparkly one still has a couple days. Probably taking at least another branch if I find one that's ripe.
. Fruity undertones to the diesel. It was a bit more sensitive to light than most of (not all) the AvT, but it took the HST like a champ and produced. Only vaping trim while it's drying, but it's an odd mix of up but foggy-minded and forgetful, i'm assuming/hoping from sheer potency XD.
Diesel with juicy fruit.
edit: oh the bud is really really good after a few days curing. uplifting, brighter colors, functional. a fan.
Day ~95, my weeks are off by one.
Pictures came out poorly, apologies. My scale is a tiny pocket scale and i don't have any containers huge and narrow enough for a harvest shot; I figured someone could accuse me of tampering with multiple-container pictures of the scale. Thoughts?
Also keep in mind I cut two decent branches and one smaller branch off of this plant to keep it from being so stuffy, mold prone, and keep myself from running out. Ended up able to train the branches down and wasn't needed.
Tent is 2x Roleadro 400 (2x200w epileds cob) with eight plants and 8sqft. I divided for my measurement and multiplied by one because it's one plants. This gives me the most accurate diary as far as I can tell .. not trying to hide that I have a good strong cob on it.
Dried weight: 29.6.
These are no longer under the 2x200w Roleadro 400s; they are under a single Mars Hydro Reflector 144 @ 317W, 24hr light.
Only the ones not quite finishing getting ferts. Skipped a nute day to do 3 waters in a row, didnt hurt any of the tents so figure thats a flush... gallon each day each tent. Discontinued silica / rhizo, prolly past-due.
Purple shiny big mama isn't quite done. I harvested the first alien, misidentified it as a diesel because it's the fat indica variant. 52g dry. I'll be editing that out of the diesel harvest page; i now believe the 29.6g plant (once more) to be the only diesel. Harvested the second alien too, the yellow light singed/gold one and it's still drying.
Will wait until the rest are done I suppose and post a 7-plant harvest roundup for the mephistos. It only wants to let me do one harvest page.
Five left. Shiny purple one is within a day or two. Got 52g off the last one, had thought it was a diesel cause it grew just like the diesel but nope -- indica alien. Think these are all aliens.
These are pretty much chillin, just defoliation and watering; all but the one that's about to harvest are still on food every other day. Yields seem quite hopeful. They're under the 317w Mars Hydro Reflector 144 instead of the more powerful cobs, but they should be good to go.
Last two Aliens.
Fed them a couple times, underestimated their finishing time and had to. They're at mostly quarter to half cloudy with quite a few clears right now. Time for flush, gonna add some more molasses as they've gotten fewer.
Gotten a bit crispy, but it's dense and fattening up well. Defoliation really helped them.
Expecting 1.5oz min up to 1.75-2.0oz. Together hoping for 3.5-4oz. Ready for them to finish up in my veg tent so that I can have room for the Lithium OG Kush I just sprouted.
May be one more update before harvest, but I doubt they have a full week left.
Very hearty, responded to LST HST and pruning (including growth nodes/branches) very well.
End product very potent. Would grow again, were I in the market for THC-only.
Had a lot of PC issues and when I got back up and running a lot of the harvest pictures are gone, which is super weird. This is what was left.
8 square foot tent, 2x200w Roleadro 400; given the way GPW etc work I have filled out the forms as per 50w per plant and 1 sq foot.

I don’t use coco but I’m thinking that the coco stores some nutrients between watering and the “every other water” feeding is like a mini flush. @biggreens420 has spectacular results in coco I would suggest he can help you.
@Tazard, yeah. I've only done two batches through coco before.
Dude I learned from just fed weaker every day using a guide that was basically closer to the lucas formula. We agreed that canna coco was closer to lucas in a bottle, but that canna recommends feeding much stronger bidaily .
It definitely builds up in the bottom of the bag such that I don't feed full strength. Conceptually it'd be easier to feed half strength, except they don't seem to like that.
Anything much less than the "light" strength from their calculator (feeding daily), and I get at the minimum, iron stuff. With full strength cali magic. That's the confusion. I might try every other day, not sure. It'd save fertilizer.
@Lucky777, yeah the pvc i got i only needed for scrogs and had intended to repurpose for this but i think i can make a better solution
and yea each one does about half of the 2x4 tent, at least at this close of a distance. hard to tell my footprint really. it's a lot more light than the 317w mars hydro reflector 144-diode blurple fixtures i have (was blooming with)
its still pretty even lighting/canopy so i would say each of the eight plants gets about 50w worth of light
@Jaindoh, ahhhh ok, so they really only light up about a 2x2? Give Or take a little.PVC is pretty tough, especially if you get the industrial grade for underground pipes.
@Lucky777, 2x Roleadro 400 (200W from wall each), which are two-diode fixtures. My filter has to be strapped to the top of the tent on the inside atm for space reasons so one of the lights is hanging crooked.
I plan on making a PVC frame and hanging that from the roof, and then the lights from that. It would fix my coverage/heat map but I havent yet. All I have atm is a bunch of 1/2" slip sched 40 PVC and no glue, i'm afraid it won't hold.
e: i think i have a better solution with just a piece of wire or two securely mounted to the outer ceiling bars instead of the center one.
@Dries96, These are 90-degree trained with LST tiedowns on the main and all the branches. Planted them off-center for this. I have done HST on almost every branch in this grow in order to try to grow short yielding plants. That is what forms the knot. I feed a lot of potassium silicate which helps a lot with LST, and also helps the plant develop larger trunk/branches.
Shorter plants with large-diameter trunks and branches, less distance to pump... very vigorous. Particularly with the root supplements to have a lot of feeder roots on the other end.
From the pictures, those plants have used a lot of energy in building knots and trunks, they have responded very well to HST and it would have been the success you were looking for with regular or fem strains.
Feed ... water ... or not ? It’s the f*ck*ng question 😅
I struggle with the same question and each times I get the answer by looking my plants and lifting the pots 😉
You just pointed the thing when you said that plants were looking better after being aerated...
To make it easy for the new growers, Cannabis don’t like to be watered chronically, they love big amounts of water only once . As you’re not a beginner I must tell you it’s all about aerobic and anaerobic bacterials in the media , it’s the primary factor . After being watered the roots hairs dies and needs 3 days to grow back , during these 3 days anaerobic bacterials have the time to do their job , it’s the time the soil needs to dry out a bit and anaerobic bacterials start to dies leaving the place for aerobic bacterials when the roots hairs start to grow back and start the feeding exchange again ....
So technically if you follow me and haven’t been lost 😄 you Water or Feed every 6 days maximum approximately, it makes once a week .
The Canna Boost I suppose it’s the Rhizotonic, it is efficient at the beginning from seedlings to the 3rd week of flowering, using it after the 3rd week of flowering is wasting money and as you said bro it’s really expensive.
@JUNGLE_B4RNS, very interesting about the bacteria, i will have to keep that in mind; makes me wonder why youre supposed to water to runoff every other day. Obviously salts, and I do water them instead of feeding, but 20% runoff is a LOT of water. How would they stay happy?
The boost I had intended is their bloom booster which I havent tried yet; the rhizotonic I am a big fan of and it only costs about the same as GH rapidstart. I will probably discontinue it after third week of flower in photos but autos are weird and keep growing past the stretch so i had been continuing to give it to them out of "better safe than sorry"
For the feeding question, as I said you must look your plants and check your garden tracker to know if you’re over feeding or under feeding, as some deficiency can looks similar to excess amounts sometimes.
I’ve never grown in coco and never used LED’s and this is why it would be like gambling if I give you accurate feeding chart . Feeding is based on plants health and the amounts of Watts with HID’s but for LED’s idk if goes the same.
@JUNGLE_B4RNS, yeah I haven't been burning so it's mostly a min/max issue of expensive nutes and "maybe itll grow a bit better if im not giving them slightly too much nutes"; I had been adjusting feed to my plants with fox farm... it's a bit more weird to me with canna since it's an A+B all-in-one.
I don't think I've been doing too poorly, just trying to dial it in to 'perfect'. My veg food's PPM for light schedule, 8.7 A+B, 4ml calmag (have dropped to 2), all the stuff I put in it, 626. The big flowering batches I had been giving at 13ml A+B were like 1050. Should be golden afaik, I really should at least do one round where I pull each plant out and test its drainage it's just the biggest drag with my setup lol. I am going to adjust my setup to where runoff testing should be easier.
@Jaindoh, yeah, she looks close... I'd say too that she still has enough nutes in her to finish the job, it's normal for her to draw nutrients and energy from the leaves so it's normal for them to go yellow at some point. I'd give them just water till the end, they seem healthy enough to not need any extra boosts for now
@bobo420, i need a new scope i think, the lens is clouded -- the furthest alien in the front left seems within a few days, has a lot of cloudies lower down as well as the tops. There's a diesel that should go soon as well.
its close enough that instead of feeding all 8, due to the overfeeding and them being autos i skipped a feed to flush 3 more that are closer as well. been giving molasses.
if they start to look deficient i'll give them a feed but have been paranoid i have been overfeeding and stunting my autos so i'm betting there's enough still left in the bottom of the bag and their leaves to last them at least until the next feed day.
They've put some weight this week, nice ;)
As for the run off and feeding I agree with @@Athos. I don't grow in coco but have seen these bugger drink as much as a regular plant, some even more, they can be thirsty ones
@DougFresh, Yeah I have been recovering from multiple surgeries and have not been on my best game. Rushing while training, bending over and stretching to train / HST instead of moving plants, all type of other rookie mistakes. Three tents is whooping my ass so far.
I am, however, generally in the "anti-fragile" camp of growing, stressing them on purpose; I'd rather make mistakes toward this direction than to be too gentle?
IDK, it's a matter of perspective, clearly -- either way the Aliens were gonna be a bit too big for the tent so I've been trying to create and maintain an *ultra* low and wide canopy.
