Green Crack, Water Only grow Started with a cheap LED, solo cups, heating pad, and tap water will transplant into a 2x4x6 tent, but I'm hoping to shave 10 days off the tent time so I can pull an extra harvest out of this setup every year Tent room is cooler than desired (75) and humidity is a little low 40% I covered cups in plastic wrap and hoped the heating pad that serves my tomato and pepper starts every year will help do the job Three beans dropped in cups packed with Great Lakes, Two more beans in Indicanja Day 1 falls on 7/11with 4of5 Seeds popping (48-60 hour germination time) Day 4 edit - one seedling started looking a little leggy, cheap led seems inadequate for these ladies. moved all 4 starts to tent along with one that has yet to pop. Temp is holding steady at 80° Humidity was at 45% added a pan of water between seedlings and fan, RH now up to 55% driver may be moved out of the tent soon, humidity is low but I'm hoping it increases in a few days when the smart pots are mixed with water Day 5 and Seed 5 is just starting to pop, and maybe a double sprout? Also, damn I love this new light and it looks like the seedlings do too. Second sets of true leaves forming and the leggy sprout is holding steady Day 6 and damn, sprout 5 looks weird, it's popping but I'm not sure what I'm looking at.. it's different, no leaves. After watering it fell over, I plucked it from the soil and wtf?.. there were two tiny starter leaves under the soil and the Taproot was above. I flipped it over, filled in a little soil.. we'll see what happens. Looking like a 4 plant run instead of 5, which is fine. Anyway, more importantly — I moved the driver outside of the tent, humidity is still low, and temperature is edging up around 83° despite being lights out for the hottest part of the day. (Maybe July wasn't the best choice of start times — live and learn) Experiencing some leaf curling (claw) most likely from oversaturating the solo cups, but it could also be too much nitrogen in the soil, a little too much wind, or I've really screwed up and these ladies are not happy in the cup. Don't think 10 days in the cups is doable. transplanting to 7gallon smart pots tomorrow — hopefully all that wet soil brings up the humidity a little bit. If not, I'll be better prepared next time with a humidifier Day 7 and the 5th seedling still not looking good, but showing a little green. two of four have rebounded from overwatering, two still showing the claw, but not as bad as yesterday. I failed to get process pics, but 3of4 transplants went great. Roots were visible in a couple places, but not at the bottom, nor were they overly balled up. #4 had a chunk of soil split off just before dropping in the hole, that one had recovered from the leaf clawing so if it stunts, I'll know why. So while the first week hasn't went as planned, but I've learned a lot and hopefully 10% of the way along

Day 8&9 — start of week 2 16 hours after transplant and although there's still one with substantial clawing, 3/4 are looking good. Third sets of leaves are developing, canopies are little wider.. so far no noticable effects from transplant Also gave them their first watering since transplant. Each plant received two cups of spring water, giving the center a good soak (approx 6" circle) and each pot was was given enough water outside the circle to moisten things up. Realizing that I'm probably gonna need a soil moisture meter of some sort Also, RH is now holding steady at 60% not quite where I want to be, but closer. Adding a wet rag to see if there's a noticable difference Day 10 The one plant with clawing is definitely causing some concern, looking smaller than the rest. Soil is starting to dry out on top, but feels moist knuckle deep. Will give them about a half cup of water after they wake up RH has been around 63 after jumping up to 70 during lights out Starting daily LST to expose as much of the canopy as I can to the light Day 11 Temp was a little high when I woke up, at 84° Solo cup sprout still sitting here with two tiniest of leaves, and doin nothin. One plant still has two leaves that are clawed, it's a little smaller than the rest, but the new growth looks healthy. Other 4 plants have a well distinguished 2nd node and bring a smile to my face.. this might just work out Day 12 each plant got about 2 cups of water. Noticed a few little spots on the first set of true leaves, think they may be from splatter during the last watering Growth continues to look good on 3of4 plants Getting ventilation/airflow dialed in holding steady at 80° and 60%RH Day 13 Roots are starting to drink up the water. First noticable difference between the Indicanja and the Great Lakes — Great Lakes soil is noticeably drier on top and the 'star of the show' so far is growing in the Indicanja 2.5 cups of water for the GL and 1 cup for the IC Day 14 Little leaves starting to crawl out from under the canopy, and the tops filling out with 7leaf fans. The little bit of daily LST has made room for a good bit of growth on these shorties Two cups of water for 3of4 plants Raised light for the first time to maintain 20" Hard to believe these are almost 25% of the way along, but the roots are really starting to take up the water and I'm excited to see what week 3 brings

Week 3 Day 15 The difference between the Indicanja soil and Great Lakes continues to become more noticeable. GL requiring more water and showing less growth Continuing with LST although I'm not sure how much good it does at this point Day16 Did a little maintenance on the grow bags, folding over the tops and adding binder clips. These should provide some great tie-down spots whenever these compact little ladies decide to bush out Day 17 Maintaining good soil moisture and battling temps that are 90+ outside. All in all, everything is going well Doing my best to train out the foliage, bending the fans a couple times a day trying to get some light penetration through the canopy Day 19 Walked in to the room this morning and was greeted by a sweet, skunky smell. I loved the aroma, but it's time to connect the carbon filter Day21 Some yellow leaf tips on one plant Great growth this week for the Indicanja plants, Great Lakes lagging a little behind. Tallest plant doubled in size this week, now at just over 6 inches with the rest of them in the 4-5" range

Start week 4 Saw a couple flies/gnats last week (Maybe a result of all the garden tomatoes in my kitchen, or overwatering) so I'm paying close attention to topsoil moisture and setup a couple sticky traps Day 22 Plants are taking up the water a little more each day. One plant still showing those yellow tips but I'm struggling to narrow down the cause (I'm leaning towards a pH or nitrogen issue) Day 23 Successful LST on the best plant, probably a couple days ahead of the other one in IC Three fruit flies on the sticky trap Day 25 Successful LST on plant #2 All four plants showing flower but the two in Great Lakes still are a good bit behind. They are growing taller and their trunks look strong, but growth seems much more compact Day 26 fungus gnats made their return, countered with DE and reduced watering Day 28 gnats are gone (at least for now), did some LST on plant #3 and she has responded well and bonus, those worrisome yellow tips, they're still down there, but all new growth is good, now spreading or further leaf degredation. All four plants are starting to stretch out, and with a lot of leaf tucking, more and more colas are popping up above the canopy. Plant #1 finished week four at 8" tall with some nicely curved stems. Plant 4 looks to be growing one big cola, not much spreading and I'm not sure where to even try LST as the nodes are so compacted

Start Week 5 Day 30 each plant has grown another inch in height over the last couple days. The DE seems to have done the trick with the few fungus gnats I encountered. Still not much canopy growth on #4 Day 31 While defoliating three of the plants I noticed just how much lighter the two pots with Indicanja are than the Great Lakes — will adjust my watering schedule appropriately Day 35 Some of the lower growth is yellowing, so far it's only the larger fan leaves and I'm not sure if they are giving up their energy to make bigger buds, or if I have an issue to address

Day 36 The weakest plant is showing more yellowing, other three look good aside from the lower leaves mentioned in the last update. Otherwise, plants are looking healthy with strong, low stress trained branches starting to fill out with little colas Day 42 Week has been mostly uneventful. Yellowing at the bottom continues, but it doesn't seem to be spreading. With somewhere around 3 weeks left in this run, I'm just gonna continue with water only and see what happens

Start Week 7 with some pale leaves and increasing cola size Day 45 plants are taking about a half gallon of water ever other day, enough that if I water too quickly, I get a little runoff for the first time in these big pots Day 47 the increased amount of water has increased the RH to around 60 picking up a dehumidifier for the room today, shooting for 40% the finish out the last few weeks Day 48 dehumidifier now running 10minutes/hour humidity is down in the low 40's

Day50 Started off week 8 with some defoliation of lower leaves and a little more lst to get everything spaced out and in it's final position D53 resisting the urge to top dress, add nutes, or a compost tea, as I really want to establish a 'water only' baseline to compare future grows D55 Indicanja plants are starting to fade, great lakes still pretty green. *Note — 55 days is the 'commercial estimate' for this strain, while Mephisto estimates 62-65 days for home grow, most forums and diaries that I've found seem to be in the 70-75 day range

D57 Two plants are really starting to fade, looking forward to seeing how they finish The other two are still getting along ok with a lot of new, dark green growth D59 The sad looking leaves make me think the Indicanja soil ran out of gas a little early, but the colas keep gettin fatter. Trichrome check shows a lot of cloudiness, but little to no amber D60 Checking trichromes every day D63 It's been a tough week adjusting to the quickly changing weather here. We've went from 90°+ days with high humidity, to rainy 70° degree days with humidity that's been in the 80-90rh range for most of the week. Central air isn't running but the dehumidifier sure has been, and while very effective at reducing the RH, tent temp has been approaching 90° Have found what's hopefully a happy medium for the time being at rh50 and 85°

D64 Starting off week 10 Humidity has been through the roof lately and I'm currently running a little hotter, and with a higher rh than I'd like, but they seem unfazed Even the lower buds on the little mutant are fattening up and surprisingly dense D69 I've officially reached the "I thought these would be done by now" phase. Probably still a week to go Also, they smell soooo good

Happy Harvest Day!

Chopped on day 78 Combined wet weight was just shy of 600 grams Stalks were cut at soil level and plants were hung to dry Temp held between 65-69° with an RH of 55-60 Day 85 7th day hanging and some of the small, bottom stems started getting brittle. Weigh in showed each plant down to ~28% of the original wet weight After 8 and a half days these ladies were ready to trim. Ended up with a yield totalling 22% of wet weight. Final jarred weight and soil medium are noted for each plant Purple Cow Indicanja #1 27.2 G Purple Cow Indicanja #2 31.9 G Great Lakes Water Only #1 34 G Great Lakes Water Only #2 15.6 G Total 108.8 grams jarred. Plus 24 Grams of trim and lower buds for cannabutter Smoke report: Sampled on Halloween after 25 days of curing — despite not having the strongest odor in the jar, once a couple buds went through the grinder, the room filled with a sweet skunky aroma. Excellent taste, great smell, burns perfectly Definitely a strong, strong indica. Even the heaviest smokers might need a seat after partaking in this strain Edible Report: Sour Crack produced a ridiculously strong butter that made some amazing nighttime treats Would highly recommend edibles made from this strain to anyone that struggles to get a good night's sleep

Final summary Yield was a little less than hoped for, and the timeline was considerably longer than the breeders estimate, but I learned a lot and certainly enjoyed the simplicity of this water only grow. Going forward I feel like the Sour Crack by Mephisto has provided a terrific baseline for my future grows. The buds produced have a nice bag appeal, taste great and made some fantastic 'night time edibles'
