Day 43 Just a waiting game now. I am going to let them grow to 2ft before switching to flowering. They are definitely growing a bit slow, but that’s alright. Day 44 Defoliated the plants, they were starting to get bushy and the fan leaves were blocking all the growth sites Day 45/46 Growing steadily! They seem to be liking the increase of heat. Day 47 It’s getting a bit hot in the tent, but it seems like they are fine. Sitting at around 85-90 degrees Day 48 I need to get a dehumidifier, I can’t keep the humidity down. Did some light defoliation. Asked a question today. Not sure how many nodes I should be keeping on my main colas. I will keep them all this time around and just let it grow. I’ll probably wait another week to switch to flowering. Day 49 Dehumidifier acquired.

My plants seem to be staying shorter and getting very bushy. Node spacing is super tight. Using a “2000 watt” LED that’s pulling 430W from the wall with the Veg and Bloom light both on. Should I turn bloom off? Or move the light a bit further away? Thoughts?

They look about like mine were when I started out. I felt the exact same way! I use two 240 w led full spectrum cobs. I moved my lights up probably another 10 inches and it helped them stretch up a bit more! Try it out. Check out my first grow for tips tricks and to learn what not to do! Cheers and happy growing!

Alright, last night I did a reservoir change. I added a fraction more nutrients to the water (.25ml per gallon). I also topped the plants. This morning I woke up and there were these brown/yellow spots and stripes on the leaves. Any idea what it’s from? Thanks!

Hi buddy go down with the ph to 5.5 - 5.8 at hydro :-) and the ec can slowly go up to 1.2 :-)

What is this? I read it’s Mag deficiency, but I put more CaliMag in yesterday during the res change. PH remained the same as well, 6.0. I topped yesterday as well. Any ideas?

Hi! For what I see on your diary, you normally would need higher levels of Cal-Mag supplement, like 1.5~1ml/L for the entire grow. From pics it seems that there are a couple of problems there (leaves curling up, some of them are kind of glossy and seems to be hard/plasticky). I'd first increase Cal-Mag supplement to at least 1ml/L. If you're in doubt if it's Mag deficiency, make an epsom salt solution and spray under the foliage, should address it quicker than root feeding. Check roots to see if they're dark or slimy, if it is, probably starting to rot, increase aeration and make their water slighty acidic (pH 5.6~5.8) It's good to remember that in hydro, water pH is slightly increased due aeration, so make sure that you test reservoir pH with bubbles on, or at least with a good stir. EC is kind of low for week 4... What is your plain water EC? I'd increase nutrient dosages to 0.66~1ml/L. Start on lower end and increase nutrients if you feel well. Also, those brown patches could be from pH fluctuation, that could lock your nutrient uptake, so give them new water with pH 5.7~5.9 for now. On hydro water pH changes from time to time, so try to play with their pH from 6.0 to 5.6 during the week, at least until she's flowering, so they can absorb all of the macro/micro nutrients correctly. For last, it is pretty rare, but only for sake of knowing it, check your water's Iron ratios... If you have lots of Iron or if your water comes from a well or maybe rain water, you could have some type of Iron excess. I'm not an experienced grower, everything here is from my little knowledge and some things that I read. Hope everything turns ok for your grow, cheers!

Just out of curiosity... does anyone here go longer than 2 weeks without changing their reservoir in a DWC system? I have been changing mine weekly, but the more I read up on it, the more I see people say that you don’t have to change it that often. Thoughts?

You don't have to do it every week. Just watch the build up of un-used nuits; plants will tell you when to change. But as long as their healthy run it. Saves a dollar in long run.

So my taller plants are starting to get bright green on top. My light is 25” from the tops. I measured today, and if I keep the lights that far away during flowering, I hardly have any space to grow them taller. It’s a 6’8” tent. The bloom light also isn’t on yet. What do I do?

bend or break stems... the latter being the last thing you want to do... but, tape them up and try not to damage the vascular tissue inside as best as possible as you weaken and or snap the stem a bit, lol... not joking.. don't grow them so large. this is a common mistake first grow. I did it too, but didn't have to do any High-stress training. i just lost a few trichomes off top due to evaporation. It doesn't look like light burn. 25" should have some space to give before you need to do these things. you better bloom it immediately, if running into height issues... as you have another 3 weeks of growth after that point. Since there's so much time after you change to 12-12, you could prune it back a tad, get 2 new vertical dominant growths and in those 3 weeks should grow out enough to provide solid colas... you have options. This would save a few more inches for sure, and shouldn't impact yield much. bending/breaking (supercropping? i can't recall at moment) works too.. people successfully do it all the time.

I am mainlining this plant, but I’m not sure if I let the branches grow off at the every node or snip them off so the focus goes to the main cola?

Most strains finish within 10 weeks of 12/12, some others that are more sativas take usually 12 weeks. So 2 to 4 weeks I would say.

Today I went in my tent and the dehumidifier was full and shut off and my exhaust fan broke. Humidity was at 90% for likely 12hrs. Buds were sagging. Back to 40% now and exhaust running. Should I be worried about bud rot?

Keep an eye out for it but you really have nothing to worry about. It would take a prolonged exposure for this to cause bud rot unless it was already forming prior. Remember, they face these conditions out in the wild all the time and rot isn't too common even then.

Hi mate. checked your question and came to see your grow. I am not accustomed with your nutrients brand, but as I see you don't use much. As I see from your leaves it seems like the plants don't get enough oxygen from the roots. First of all check your roots to see if they are ok. Then check the temperature of the water. If you go above 23 Celsius you 'll have lots of problems. If all roots and temps are ok, add more air pots in the water. Hope was helpful.

@AmnZhz, I think I may have figured this out. Tell me if this makes sense. I bought a cheap PH meter off amazon and calibrated it, and used that to mix everything during my reservoir change yesterday. I noticed on another plant, I had what looked like another nute deficiency. I was so confused how all these plants in this same water could have different deficiencies. So I took out the old faithful water sample and drops test kit I had been using before, and lone behold, the PH was in the 4.5-5.0 range. So my plants weren’t able to take in nutrients because my PH was too low. I have learned the hard way not to skimp out on super cheap stuff. Haha

@AmnZhz, so the roots looked great and the weren’t sticking together. No slime or anything, but there was a brown/green film starting to form inside the reservoir. I cleaned the tote and everything is back to normal. Thanks for the advice! I also upped the nutes a bit. It’s all in my write up for this week. Cheers

Looks good. You’re still around 2 weeks from being done. They have cheap little macro lenses that you can clip on your phone for like 10 dollars on amazon that will do the job.
