Brand new bucket, brand new grower... 1. Space Bucket Design using passive intake. 2. 150W UFO Grow Lights attached to top of bucket and 15.4 Ft. Flexible led light strips attached to spacers. Both are on the same timer. Currently 18/6. 3. 2x120mm variable speed exhaust fans attached to top of bucket near UFO lights. 1. Germinated 1 bagseed in a glass of water for 12+hrs. Transferred to damp paper towel for another 7hrs. until it germinated. 2. Transferred germinated seed to clear plastic solo cup filled with Strawberry Fields Potting Soil. (I couldn't resist, my son is a huge Beatles fan! 3. Seedling will be placed closer to the light source once it has germinated. 4. Transplanting will occur when roots are visible in the solo cup. Plant will be transplanted in a 3 gallon canvas pot using the same soil.

1. Strong daily growth, especially in the root system. I'm glad I used a clear plastic cup. 2. Water consumption has doubled from 1/3 to 2/3 cp. water daily. 3. Visible roots showing by day 10. 4. Seedling was transplanted to a 3 gallon canvas, smart-pot. 5. Seedling seemed to survive transplanting. 2nd node is visible. 6. Tiny little secondary growth is emerging from the first node.

1. Beginning of Week 3 brings secondary growth on the first two primary nodes. 2. She is still very small so I'm not worried about topping yet. 3. I'm undecided about nutrients. This is an experiment, and I'd like to keep the variables to a minimum. My soil is of good quality, I am using filtered water, and there are no visible deficiencies. My only concern is my bagseed. 4. Day 18, Secondary growth on nodes 1-2 is very pronounced. Secondary growth on node 3 visible. 5. I'm considering snipping the first single sugar leaves below the secondary growth. It isn't seeing very much light, so it is using energy that could be directed elsewhere. 6. I'm considering topping the plant at the end of the week. I'd like to see the 3rd node fully formed first. 7. Topped her at day 20. I also removed the single fan leaves, as they weren't receiving any sunlight at this point.

1, Topped her last Thursday. New growth is prominent. 2. I cut off 4 fan leaves. I will probably remove the top two in a few days. I'd like to let some of the secondary leaves fill out before I remove the existing leaves. 3. She is drinking about half a gallon every two days. I'm still not using any nutes. My goal is to stay that course for this grow. 4. Training is on its 3rd day. I'm using a thick gauge flexible wire to train. It bends and cuts easily. I will put together a netting once I have the bud sites in the correct place. 5. This plant is barely growing in height! It makes it both difficult and easy to train. Its hard to see, but everything is close to the ground. 6. Growth is pretty fast! I'm trimming about 4 fan leaves every few days. 7. At this rate, I will force flower in about 1-2 weeks tops.

1. She is a month old now, and is less than 4 inches tall! Very easy to train. 2. Still no nutrients. I haven't seen anything that would indicate a deficiency. 3. She is filling out the grow space nicely using LST. Once the growth has filled in, I will begin flowering. 4. I'm thinking of using a bucket spacer to create a lattice to help with flowering. Its difficult to know where to place netting since she is barely growing vertical.

1. It's flowering time! 2. I placed her in darkness for 24+ hours. My son's closet was the perfect choice. 3. Timers were reset to 12/12. 4. I'm not sure whether I have a male or female yet, but I didn't want to leave a week blank. The knowledge handed down to me is that it could show sex anywhere from 1 day to 1 week. 5. It is showing some preflowering growth. I included that for examination. Any thoughts would be appreciated. 6. No nutrients have been added.

1. Things are developing slowly. 2. It is showing female tendencies, but nothing mind blowing. 3. LST has resulted in a very squat plant. I trim 5-8 leaves per day. 4. Still no nutrients, although I have been looking into a few flowering nutes. I've narrowed it down to Advanced Nutrients and Oregon's Only. I might do a side by side on my next grow so I can see what they can do. 5. UPDATE: I started Adding Advanced Nutrients yesterday. They were the only ones on my list that were available locally. 6. The directions call for 4ml/l of part A and B. On my first few feedings I will give them 1.25 ml/l every 2-3 days. I'll post more pictures if i see any real change.

1. I'm not exactly sure what she is doing at this point. Today was 2 weeks since she was "flipped". Something is going on, but for the most part it is slow, slow, slow. 2.. Upped the nutes to 2.0 ml/l. 3. Currently I am feeding 1l with nutes on days 1-2. I skip day 3, then repeat.

I have a confession to make. I was getting really tired of pulling out that plant from those 5 gallon buckets, so I bought a 3x3x6 grow tent. That's why the pictures look a lot different. 1. She is finally showing definite pistils and flower forming. There are probably about 20+ bud sites, all about the same size so far. 2. She has grown about an inch since last week. She doesn't seem to be getting bigger overall, but I've noticed stretching in the branches when I look underneath the canopy. 3. I've added Bud Candy and Big Bud to my list of nutrients. Everything is half strength. I'd rather err on the side of caution. I'm watering every 48 hrs. I couldn't figure out how to change the frequency. 4. My only real concerns at this point is my overall temperature. Its still early spring here, and the temperature in the grow tent drops to about 59 degrees on some nights. It will climb to 76+ degrees during the day though. That concern will end within the next few weeks. 5 . I'm trying to get my humidity up a bit. It averages around 25%. That's really good for the desert by the way. I've put a few water containers in the room for evaporation. I'm not sure I want to plug in a humidifier.

1. She has really started to stretch and form multiple bud sites this week. She grew about 6 inches in a week. 2. I raised the lights a bit. She spent most of her life in a space bucket, under a little UFO light. I was worried the new lights were too strong. 3. Increased Sensei Bloom A+B to 3ml/l. 4. She is drinking a liter a day at least. I'm sure she would take more water, but the 3g smart sacks really only hold a bit more than a liter. 5. I have been feeding on days 1-2. Day 3 is 2 liters of filtered water. I'm leery of feeding each time I water, as I am watering every day. 6. Despite my best intentions, I still find myself trimming half a dozen leaves every few days.

1. She is still stretching a bit. I've measured about 5 inches of growth in the last week. 2. Primary and secondary bud sites are really filling out. I count about 20 really nice tops. 3. Increased Sensei Bloom A+B to 4ml/l. That is the max for this nutrient. 4. Increased Big Bud and Bud Candy to 2ml/l. That is also their max. 5. Will switch out Big Bud for Overdrive in the next week or so. I'm not exactly sure when to make the transition. 6. I'm maintaining the same watering/feeding schedule. 1l+Nutes on Day 1-2. 2l filtered water on Day 3. Repeat. I'm considering increasing either the amount of filtered water to run off on water days, or decreasing the number of days I feed. My thinking is that it would act as mini-flushes since I'm adding a lot of nutrients.

1. She has definitely finished stretching. There has been no noticable change in height, except for the forming buds. 2. There is considerable filling in of the bud sites. They are getting longer and rounder! 3. I am continuing to lightly trim leaves that shade the buds. I probably remove 8-10 leaves every few days. 4. I would like to trim off some of the lower sucker branches, but I think I will let them go, and remember to defoliate better on my next grow. 3. I am watering 1l with nutes on day 1 and day 2. On day 3 I have increased the filtered water to 3 liters. I'm still barely getting run off! 3. Otherwise, feedings have not changed. However, this will probably be the last week for Bud Candy. I'll switch to Overdrive next week. She probably has about 4 weeks before flushing, and 5-6 weeks until harvest.

1. Here we are, back to the eternal grow! Buds are shaping up nicely. Most, if not all, of the plant's energy is going to flower formation. There has been no vertical growth, and almost no new leaves are emerging. Buds are getting very frosty and sticky. 2. I stopped using Bud Candy this week and switched to Overdrive. My current watering schedule is Feed+Feed+Filtered Water to Run Off. I'll use this schedule for the next 2 weeks then start flushing. 3. I expect to harvest in 3-4 weeks.

1. Almost to the end of this grow I'm guessing. I'll continue with Overdrive for another week then switch to Filtered Water and Fantastic Finish for Flushing. I'm guessing 3 weeks. 2. Increased Overdrive from 1ml to 2ml. 3. I'm not noticing a ton of change on a daily basis. The buds appear to be getting fatter and they are filling in a bit, but that is more gradual. 4. The buds themselves are very compact and sticky. 5. Some red pistils are showing on a few of the lower buds, but most of the pistils are still clear to milky. 6. I took her out of the tent today for watering so some of the photos are not under the grow lights.

1. I'm entering the final stages of flowering. I'm guessing 2-3 weeks until harvest. 2.. I have a jeweler's loupe. I'm seeing mostly glassy trichomes. There are a barely any milky ones. Pistils are still turning red. There are a few on each of the buds, but mostly they are either milky, or still clear. However, pistils are lying down mostly onto the buds, so that is an indication one phase of flowering is ending. 3. I noticed some "clawing" of some of the fan leaves. I thought it could be windburn because I switched to different fans, so I lowered the fan speed and moved them around so they indirectly hit the plant. 4. I also thought it could be a Nitrogen burn. I had a bit more evidence for this. The tips of a lot of leaves are slightly burned, and the overall color is a lovely dark green. Since she wasn't showing any real signs of damage, I stopped using all nutrients, and did a watering to run off of filtered water. 5. I'll use only filtered water and occasional Flawless Finish. Hopefully, in the next 3 weeks she will have used up all the excess nutrients, and I'll have flushed out the remaining residue.

There are a lot more red pistils this week. I see more and more of the trichomes turning milky. She appears to be about finished, but I see no fading of the leaves, and zero amber trichomes. 4. My plan is to put her in darkness on Sunday, then harvest on Tuesday.

Happy Harvest Day!

This was the easiest grow ever! She started in a space bucket, but I moved her up to more spacious digs when she began flowering. She was the most forgiving plant in the world! She didn't mind when I moved her to a much powerful light setup and she grew like a beast when I fed her like crazy. I know she was overfed, but there was barely anything noticeable until the very end of the grow. That was taken care of by and extended filtered water regimen. I still have no idea what strain I grew. I doubt if I'll ever find out. The buds look and taste like a lot of herb that I have bought here and there.

This grow started in a space bucket, so serious LST was used to keep her small, and tight. I topped her after the third node and trained out the branches. I flipped her after 5 weeks. She was the right dimensions for her environment. It took almost 3 weeks for her to show true female characteristics. I did light training and defoliating while that stretch was occuring. In the future I would defoliate earlier and at greater length. There was a lot of fluff under the canopy. She flowered for a long time. Next journal I'll assume the first few weeks are more vegetative than flowering. She easily doubled in size during the whole flowering cycle. Buds stacked nice and dense. There was very little smell until I was wet trimming. My son said, "The grow room smells loud!" I did a wet trim during harvest. I smoked the resin on the scissors. 😵Drying was done in the grow tent. I had trouble with low humidity because we live in the desert. I ran a humidifier in the tent and still couldn't get humidity over 10%. She dried for 3 days, then I manicured the buds, put them in mason jars, and popped in a 58% Breveda. The smoke is very heady. I found that I had to just sit there for a few minutes after consuming that resin. Overall, it wouldn't bother me if this were my only option for growing, but there are a million seeds to try, and my tent is only so big!0

@Smokwiri, I started an auto earlier last week. I will post the diary probably tomorrow. I wanted to wait until the 2nd node was visible. I've looked at a lot of the grow journals. 14-16 weeks seems about average for a photo. I guess I could've flipped her to flower a few weeks earlier. I also think I could've let her go another weekish.
Smokwiri
Smokwiricommented7 years ago
@Quexos,Well yeah, 16 weeks is a long time if i'd grow an Lemon OG kush from seed to harvest i could have done 2 harvest within that time. But growing bagseed is such fun, growing a unknown strain just by feeling it's needs by reading it's leaf and branches. What's next on the menu?
Quexos
Quexoscommented7 years ago
@Smokwiri, Thanks! You mean 16 weeks though right? I was amazed at the yield as well. I expected a little closer to 1 ounce. I could've gone a little longer I think, but I have another grow I want to start. The most amazing thing was the giant pile of kief after I had finished trimming and storing the newly dried buds! Yeah I love when people compare their buds to different objects. I'm not as fond of the lighter comparison. BTW, thanks for following my grow! You've been a great help for a lowly newb.

Thanks! She is getting very crystally. I have problems moving stalks around because my hands get all sticky!!! I doubt I have an overwatering problem. My water guage is always dry, I lift the smart sack up to check how light it is, and I stick my finger in the soil to check below the surface. I actually think she wants more water!😄 She gets a bit fatter every day. I still have about 4 weeks before I harvest. A lot can happen in that time. Also, this was an experiment. So far I think its been pretty successful. But you are right, I see a lot of journals with a lot better growth. I'll know more about why as I get a few more grows into mason jars. BTW thanks for following!

Quexoscommented7 years ago
@Smokwiri, I knew it wasn't overwatering when I first noticed the curling leaves. What was worrying me was the deep green color of the leaves. They looked really healthy, but I wasn't expecting the leaves to look that good so late in the flowering. I noticed the browning tips awhile ago. At the time I just thought I should keep an eye on things to see if it gets worse. I never noticed anything alarming, but when you start adding symptoms up, its best to be cautious. You are right, it helps explain the eternal flowering cycle.
Smokwiri
Smokwiricommented7 years ago
@Quexos,it could be that it slowed down the process, a couple of weeks ago i was thinking about overwatering back then, it could be that the nitrogen overdose started to build up at that time. But, you only have some clawing leaves with tips of the leaves with around 2-3 millimeter of burn. maybe she already recovered (the leaf won't show recovery), younger leaves do look healthy.
Quexos
Quexoscommented7 years ago
@Smokwiri, I can't think of anything else that would cause the clawing leaves, or burnt tips other than too much nitrogen. I think I used Sensei Bloom a couple of weeks too long. It had Nitrogen in it. I believe my plant stopped needing that boost a few weeks ago. Now she should be drawing on reserves in the leaves to finish up. That might also be why she has taken so long. I should see some changes now that I'm flushing.

@bobo420, Thanks! I like her progression. I wish the buds were bigger at this point, but I'll just be patient and see what happens in the end. She is a bagseed after all. Quexos
Quexoscommented7 years ago
@Smokwiri, Thanks! Nothing has really changed in the last few days. There is more pre-flower growth, but nothing that points directly to female. My thinking is that if it were male, it would've shown that type of growth already because males show faster. That might be a myth, but I remember that from when I was a young man decades and decades ago. All I can do is wait!
Jaindoh
Jaindohcommentedweek 57 years ago
you can twist those bottom branches left and right to make sure they get light and dont get shaded out or take them as clones before you flip
Quexos
Quexoscommented7 years ago
@Jaindoh, I started to bend one of them towards the empty space, but that's it. My LST plan is to take the first nodes and make them the cardinal directions. The next set of nodes will make up the intermediate directions. I envision a compass rose. If I knew more about this seed's genetics, I might attempt cloning. It doesn't look that difficult. I don't have anyplace to put a clone though. This is my only grow space...for now.

Smokwiricommentedweek 127 years ago
this looks good, trichome covered buds with crystals upto half of the smaller leaves do you notice some of the leaf tips bendng downwards, could it be overwatering? all leaf looks healthy, i wish she would fatten up a bit faster, but it still can happen.

Height is overrated. Short, stocky, vigorous plants yield like crazy. You're doing great, man! Your defoliation instinct is right on time. In the interest of clarity, I suspect you mean "fan leaves" not sugar leaves, a term used to describe frost-covered leaves on flowering plants =P Liking this grow! Staked down real good.

She's looking nice! Very squat and already on 2nd node! Cant give much advise about transplanting... I always germinate my seeds directly into end pot. Keep it coming 👍

she's looking good very nice development of bud i'd try to water a couple of times a day in small amounts the wet soil evaporates a lot and puts a couple of % extra to the humidity but you're in flowering now, you don't need the high level of humidity anymore you don't want any mould to accomadate itself on her bud if your problem with temperature gets too big, put her in the dark for 24 hours and change your time schedule of light to night. it's cooler at night and by putting her in the dark she won't stress by the change.

@Smokwiri, Thanks! I'm pretty happy with the way she is developing. There are a couple of brown pistils on some of the lower buds, but mostly the pistils are milky white, or clear. I expect the buds to get a bit bigger and fatter, but I honestly don't know. There still is barely any smell. I'm trying to figure out the strain based on the bud formation, but I'm still not sure.

@Quexos, beautiful pictures, the leaves on the buds are completely covered with trichomes. I don't see any brown pistils yet, that means that the buds are still busy with the development of the buds, i hope they will get bigger and fatter soon. Does the smell guve you a clue of what kind of herb this bagseed is? She looks great
