This update for the last week is a few days late. It was a week of many minor errors, but I don't think it's anything from which the girls can't recover.
I saw some brown spots in the middle of the lower leaves and felt this was likely calcium deficiency from using distilled water. I added General Hydroponics CaliMagic and also Bio-Cozyme in the amounts specified on the bottles. This sent my PPM through the roof and I wound up with what I feel pretty confident is nutrient burn. (see pics) I've swapped out all my water now and went city water that I ran through a KDF hose carbon water filter. I then went back to just the General Hydroponics three part nutrient system. After reading that manufacturers tend to push the maximum limit with their recommended amounts, I diluted this amount too. My PPH out of the faucet, after the hose filter was about 300 and is about 850 now. I'm hoping this will correct the nutrient burn.
My Mars TSL 2000 lights finally shipped, so hopefully they will be here soon and I'll swap them out for the Amazon burple light I have now.
I also discovered that the Home Depot buckets I was using let a lot of light through. First, I tried to remedy this by painting them with some Plasti Dip. This still let an awful lot of light through, so I wrapped the buckets in black Gorilla tape and that solved the problem.
I also think I planted my seedlings too low in the net pots. I guess it's too late to fix that without damaging the roots, but I'll know for next time.
I'm brand new at this, so constructive input is always welcome.
I decided that my girls probably had a calcium deficiency from using distilled water. I added a cal/mag supplement and an enzyme supplement. Now my PPM is through the roof. Should I reduce nutrient levels so that I'm still in the desired PPM range?
Best if you have osmosis water and mix the stale water for 24 hours (after 24 hours the chlorine has evaporated somewhat) to an Ec value of 0.2. Then add Cal / Mag until the Ec is 0.4. This is your source of water
Keep it up 😎👍
@@decam, Thanks much. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worst this week, but I guess that's what first grows are all about, making mistakes and learning from them.
@GanjaTorturer, Thanks. I've got the bottom under the canopy reasonably cleaned up but I'm going to tackle the top and try to clean up a little space for the developing buds. I'm a little anxious about that. Any tips or resources on how to do enough without going overboard would be appreciated. 👍
@flatblack, i’ve been changing mine every Sunday (every 7-10 days) and it seems to be working out well. I haven’t developed any gross smells, algae or anything unwanted in the reservoir yet!
@Piratagrow, This is my first grow ever, so I'm not a good source to give you reliable info. Thus far, I've just changed it out to correct errors I made with nutrients. I'm finishing my third week. I've read some say every week. I've read some that say they don't change the entire grow.
WHOA, that is such a depressing tale of tragedy here.
So sorry to hear of the loss, I am in my first grow and so far so good, I worry about the site you have shown in your tent. I am going into week 8. I too am doing DWC and am very envious of your SCROG. When I saw how well your plants took to this I was so curious of one huge question I have been debating myself and that is how to do a complete water change out if we don't valve our buckets with a drain system and a fill system. My concerns are about nutrient buildup but I figure if the plants are taking up the solution, the nutrients are making it into the plant. I've started adding PH'ed water every other feeding to ensure not to go over.
