Another year, another diary! I was looking to try out some new strains and breeders since I've done Barney's for the past 2 years. I really liked to breadth of the Dinafem CBD catalog so I ordered the Gorilla CBD, Bubba Kush CBD and Purple Orange CBD. Unfortunately the Purple Orange didn't germinate which is highly disappointing, because it was the strain I was looking forward to the most. It was definitely smaller than the other 2 and was more pale, definitely not as plump and dark as the other 2 so I think I got an inferior seed so I was doomed from the start. I tried everything, didn't work😩 That was supposed to be my daytime pain management with the Joanne's! I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia about 3 years ago and have chronic daily pain. In the years since my diagnosis things have gotten worse, with more neurological symptoms including vision changes and debilitating cluster headaches. Looking around at strains, I've had really good luck with 1:1 strains. I'm sensitive to THC so anything above that ratio triggers my anxiety and I get very paranoid. I liked the look of the 2:1 strains from Dinafem, especially that Purple Orange because 1:1's during the day is a little too much for me to stay on track so the 2:1 seemed like a great option. In the past when I've done a 15:1 during the day I had to take a lot in order to get good pain relief which made me a little groggy and wasn't worth it. I took full advantage of the Seedsman spring CBD Promo and received the Joanne's and Ice Cool as freebies. -From RQS website: "Joanne's CBD: Therapeutic And Delicious Joanne’s CBD is a therapeutic cultivar that produces a clear-headed and lucid effect. She’s a productive polyhybrid featuring a perfect balance of 50% indica genetics and 50% sativa. The strain received her medicinal cannabinoid profile from parent strains Juanita la Lagrimosa and Session. As a descendant of Juanita, Joanne’s CBD belongs to a longstanding lineage of CBD legends. Juanita la Lagrimosa is believed to be the first strain ever to reach a CBD content of 15%. The variety has scooped up numerous High Times Cannabis Cup awards for her medicinal effects and low THC content. Although she offers an attractive cannabinoid profile, she often lacks in size and productivity. Our breeders addressed this drawback by infusing some much-needed Session genetics into the mix. This towering hybrid offers a massive yield and descends from the high-CBD cultivar Kalijah." -From Sweet Seeds website: "CBD-rich version of one of the best and most aromatic strains from our catalog, our beloved Ice Cool®️ (SWS06). This strain gathers two exquisite genetic lines from the Diesel family: our Ice Cool®️ and a selected CBD-rich “elite” clone from Diesel ancestors. The THC:CBD ratio of this strain stands between 1:1 and 1:2, making it a strain rich in CBD (Cannabidiol). This high yielder is very resinous. The tastes and aromas of this strain are exquisite, very strong and penetrating, with citrus tones, touches of wood, complemented by a background of cypress and exotic spices. Ice Cool CBD®️ (SWS69) presents the typical structure of Indica-Sativa hybrids. It is adapted to the requirements of indoor growing and it is very productive, resinous and aromatic. This variety is featured in the 2019 Top 10 Strains from High Times magazine." -From Dinafem: GORILLA CBD: "An Indica capable of taming the potency of Gorilla while keeping her taste intact Gorilla CBD is a feminised cannabis seed that holds on to the morphology, unbeatable resin yield, and delicious Kush taste of Gorilla but reduces the narcotic effects with a 1:2 THC:CBD ratio. Dinafem Seeds’ Gorilla was warmly welcomed when she hit the shelves in 2018." BUBBA KUSH CBD: "The Indica queen, now with all the properties of CBD Bubba Kush CBD is a feminised cannabis seed by Dinafem Seeds that masterfully mixes the typical traits of Bubba Kush with the many therapeutic effects of cannabidiol. If Bubba Kush is the quintessential Indica queen (pretty, compact and narcotic), this strain keeps the beauty and taste of the queen intact but drives the potency down." So Joanne's will have to suffice for my daytime, Gorilla and Bubba Kush for evening, with Ice Cool being and all purpose hybrid option. Started in Coast of Maine Sprout Island Blend on the thermostat controlled germination mat at 78F with a humidity dome under LED grow lights.

I am not sure if you have interest in this but you may as you have a farm. However, I now you are set up but I am going to share anyways. https://buildasoil.com/ Also, this may be of interest. Soil balance Pro However, clearly some rain to fill that stream bed would be GREAT!

@Fibro_Witch, Yeah I saw those answers a couple days back. As to N deficiency I am not sure how as the dirt should have more that enough in it and I dosed the tall one with way more worm castings than I meant too. Unless something cause a lock out of N. I am not to worried about it, it's growing, it looks better for sure and the dying seems to have slowed way down (almost can't see it anymore on that plant) so I will just let it do it's thing. The over worrying parent I am...

Fibro_Witchcommented4 years ago
@Learning, I looked at the pic and looks like some people have already provided some answers. I would agree that you might have a little N deficiency in the larger plant, so most likely in the smaller one as well. As it grows up, and the lower fan leaves don't get as much light the plant will put more resources into the top so bottom leaves that don't get as much sun will die off. It's not a dire situation, just give them some more Nitrogen. As far as the comments about watering, with outdoor grows sometimes you're at the mercy of the elements and that's just how it goes. Frankly my girls look like crap right now because we have quite a drought going on so they're not getting as much water as the need. It is what it is, but I have faith in their resiliency.

They don't look terrible, give your self some credit! You are doing your best! Silica may help with heat and drought stress.

@StealthyDutchGuy, Yeah they're taller because they've got to get above the tomatoes! I started a lot of seedlings but didn't sell as many as planned so they're more crowded than I wanted. But I'm going to have more tomatoes than I'll know what to do with!

@StealthyDutchGuy, They look fine to me. A bit stressed but all plants get stressed through out their lives. Plus their mom is stressed. Height wise could be de to being in the ground vs a pot. Either way they are pulling through and will give great results.

@Learning,Yeah, I also think they look good. And BIG... 👍

Heej, just saw your name pop up while scanning some diaries. Good luck with your grow! Interesting strains, so I'm following you. Is it me or are your plants really stretching?! 20 cm is heigh, not so many leafs. Anyway, cheers!

@Fibro_Witch,Ah, I see. Kind of the same for me. This week the night temp is about 10 Celcius I think. But the weeks before the temp dropped to 6 and below. I also have to put them in a small greenhouse. Both of my plants (WW auto and OG Kush CBD) have curly twirly leaves because of the cold weather. Anyway, good luck somewhere in the Northern realms!
Fibro_Witch
Fibro_Witchcommented5 years ago
@StealthyDutchGuy, Thanks! I'm in a colder northern climate, it's still getting down to 5-6 degrees Celsius at night so I have to wait a bit for it to warm up.

@Fibro_Witch,O.k. So you're pre-growing them before you put them in the garden (outdoor). I think they will grow and take on epic proportions.... 😉👍

I read here that one of your seeds had touble sheding it's shell. I seem to have that problem also. I may have l killed one by removing it but I am unsure. I have another that is stuck but I don't really want to handle it in case I did kill the last one. Do you do anything except exercise patience in this situation?

@Fibro_Witch, I went outside took a deep breath and removed it. Time will tell if I was gentle enough =] My wife says I am oly gentle during sexy time =P

@Fibro_Witch, I will try this. I figured the leaves would rot, that was what made me concerned. I keep a plastic container over them so birds dont eat them and I was hoping it'd hold enough moisture to help it along. But I think it's time to try something else because they have been in there... today makes 72 hours I am pretty sure.
Fibro_Witch
Fibro_Witchcommented5 years ago
@Learning, put plain water in a spray bottle and gently spray around the seed. This helps to moisten it which will make it easier for the leaves to push off. If it doesn't come off within 48 hours then spray again and gently try to peel it off, otherwise the leaves will rot inside. Hope this helps! Good luck🙏

@Mrs_Larimar, Not too late! She'll catch up😉 I'm looking forward to this one too. What's not to love about their pitch? "She makes an excellent smoke before a hot bath or meditation session to tame the sympathetic nervous system." You got me RQS, I'm in! So glad Seedsman was doing a CBD promo!

@Mrs_Larimar, Yes, it feels like all I do is feed her and have hardly anything to show for it. Unless the flowers are out of this world (whenever they show up) then I will not be growing this strain again.😬

Heej! Looking good. Just realised that your plants are already 5 weeks into flowering. Can I ask what region, country, latitude you live? Here in Holland we get 12/12 on the 25th of August. Just curious!
Fibro_Witch
Fibro_Witchcommented4 years ago
@StealthyDutchGuy, It's fine😉 Flowering can actually begin anytime between 10-12 hours of darkness, at least that's what Royal Queen Seeds "Flowering Stages of Cannabis Week By Week" article says. So when it's 13 hours daylight they're still getting 10 hours of darkness and make the switch, and I mostly estimate and usually round up on daylight hours when I update my diaries.
StealthyDutchGuy
StealthyDutchGuycommented4 years ago
@Fibro_Witch,Hey! So now I understand your flowering weeks since your week 12. That's pre-flowering 👍. But wait, how did they get into flowering with more than 13 hours of daylight?! Did you do light-deprivation? Haha, sorry for the question 😁
Fibro_Witch
Fibro_Witchcommented4 years ago
@StealthyDutchGuy, New England, United States, 44 N, currently at almost exactly 13 hrs daylight, shifting into 12. They are definitely behind schedule, they've been neglected and I need to catch up on feeding.

Be careful, tomato plants attract many insects and most are not beneficial. Also, don't over-water and over-fertilize. Good luck! Sweet smokes, -Apolo
Fibro_Witch
Fibro_Witchcommented5 years ago
@Sweet_Seeds, Thanks for the advice! The seaweed that I have used as mulch will deter slugs, and I have interplanted marigolds, calendula, borage and nasturtiums to repel whiteflies, aphids and several other pests. I put them in with my tomatoes to disguise them since I operate a Market Garden. I usually only water in the first week or two of transplanting or if we have a long dry spell. I fertilize sparingly with natural products like blood meal, lime, worm castings and fish emulsion so they don't get burned.
