An overwhelming sea of information made available through online diaries actually made this both easy to start and confusing as hell all at the same time but now after several years of investigation and waiting for the technology to mature and the laws to open up... here we are... and for a fitting start to the journey we go from wanting to doing and it is here at this APEX that we will truly begin... with ETHOS APEX R1 feminized seeds. Maybe not the best strain for a first-time grow, maybe not the worst. It's rather hard to find a lot of detailed information on this specific strain but nevertheless I think we can work to contribute some valuable information.💩
Keeping the lights at about 30%, 24/7 at this point. They seem to be responding well. Not too much watering. Maybe a misting here or there. Good draining soil. They don't seem to be stretching at all. Growing nice.
In the second week I felt the need to get them out of the solo cups and so I modified a 3 gallon smart pot with staples down to about a 1.5 gallon and transplanted the two babies. They were already starting to lose some deep greenness so I started watering with cal-mag and distilled water. The next day I began 50% of the top 3 on the FFHF nutes schedule. Within 48 hours they started to get bigger and greener.
The baby seedling has stayed very close to the ground and a bit stunted it seems compared to the other two. This one was not rooted on the heating mat like the last two. It was mostly in the tent once it popped above soil. It seems to like the sun, though. I decided it might want some air and moved it out of the solo cup today and into a 1.5 like the other two. Also gave it a wetting with a cal-mag dose with the spray bottle at the base and soil. Covered loosely with water bottle dome.
Going to full spectrum FFHF feeding tomorrow.
Started LST. Used garden wire without super-soft coating. It is fine for now but I think I'll upgrade to the spongy kind. Attached it to the pot lifter under the pot.
The plants bent rather easily. The leaves are huge and really couldn't completely uncover the lower nodes but it should help. The plants each shot up and inch within a half-day. They are stretching out the bends in the wire, too.💪
Dang, how soon should I repot??
Bent them over and the next 12 hours shot up and spread out. After a few days of gently increasing pull, the stem thickened up. using soft gel coated wires to attach to the plants but then thinner wire to attach to pot lifter. Going to do one more tie-down and then pot up to 5gal.
So far, one light stays generally at 50% on the dimmer dial. Up-potted the APEX sisters. The two big girls went from a modified 3-gallon pot to a 10 gallon pot with coated tomato cage. They are loving it. Reinforced their old ties and made some new anchors.
The smaller 3rd girl had her modified 3-gallon pot expanded to a full-3-gallons and topped off with fresh FFHF/CocoLoco/perlite. She is also responding positively. Also started to LST her- she actually "topped" herself and is split into two mainlines.
Expanded nutrient list per FFHF feeding chart. Did my first SLEDGEHAMMER rinse. Introduced foliar feeding per FFHF.
Everything is running smooth.
Growing really nicely. Responds aggressively to LST and defoliation. Switched from fortified distilled h2o to fortified tap. No negative response except for more cal mag so far... Full strength nutes.
Trichomes are starting to form up and down the branches. The dwarf plant is nearly all purple with white and purple hairs.
The bigger plants are each on their own way to purple. The more stressed and trimmed one is yellowed and purple but the colas are getting way thinker and longer. The healthier plant with less lollipop ping is still producing big colas throughout.
The clone that I rooted two weeks before going to 12/12 is flowering nicely. Very short and tiny colas but a nice contrast of time and root size.
The bigger pots are definitely giving bigger roots and therefore hopefully bigger richer fruits.
The three gallon plant is only one week in veg behind the ten gallon sisters. The 3 gallon really kept it's size down it wouldn't grown bigger.
trichomes getting thick
sugar leaves getting thick
buds fattening up and filling up the colas
Sweet smells
drinking lots of water
loves high alkaline beverages
okay ok oh key
they are getting there
what else? what else to say....
hmmm...
The weather is going nice...
but this is an indoor grow...
hmmmm.
See ya! =D
The smell in the tent is like sweet fruity candy.
The buds are dripping with honey and covered in milky crystals.
Some of the branches are twisting down and need to be supported.
The colas are all fattening up and stacking solid chunks of love.
Temps are much cooler now that fall is here and just in time for late flowering.
I have been able to maintain between 40 and 50% relative humidity with daytime temps around 74 - 77 and nighttime temps of 68 - 72. Pistils still seem perky and fresh. Trichs are still clear and building fat heads. There is almost honey dripping from these buds. The smell is so sweet and fruity.
Finally added some microbe brew to the mix. They LOVE it.
the smell of sweet strawberries and cream dominate the terp profile in each of these. Swear it's Frankenberry Marshmallows.
Had some fungus gnats roaming in the soil. Hit everything with H202 in plain tap and no sign of any gnats next day except for dead ones in the bottom of a runoff tray. The plants also perked up quite a bit and added levels and girth to the colas.
wrapping up final flush and feeding... h20 here on out - maybe two more watering then harvest.
The ETHOS Apex R1 fem were pretty easy considering my first grow. FFHF soil with coco loco and perlite with recommended nutrients. Tap water and love.
They all love to be trained, topped, FIM, whatever... they get hungry.
I ran three seeds from one batch and they each had slightly similar traits of sweet berries and citrus but two were solid diesel and one was pure sugar berry marshmallows and that one happened to also be a half-sized plant. It just didn't get as big as her sisters at all.
Everything seems to be dripping with oils and covered in heavy trichomes. At 6 months in Boveda and canisters it's still killer.
