***New Addition*** Day 82 - Big tank change out. Had a massive drop in pH while EC rose some again (Only been adding RO water the last few days to keep tank in check around EC1.2-1.3, had jumped to 1.6. PH Drop was from 5.9-6 to 4.9-5.0 from it being stable for 4-5 days). After epsom salting the leaves last week, still noticing some lower leaves "Praying" and some dead and drying ones hanging from the plant. Its getting to about the mid-way point of the plant now (again, all that's under the scrog but...) but getting too close for comfort!!! Have edited my formula slightly for this change out to: *2ml/L Bloom A & B (So 100ml of each in a 50L tank) *1ml/L Silicon *0.6g/L Epsom Salts *1ml/L 9/18 PK Warrior (This was a f**k up, should have been 0.5ml/L - hopefully doesn't impact or isn't the cause for Mg issues - causing a lockout) 2ml/L Sumo Active Boost 2ml/L Fulvic Acid 2ml/L Sensizym 2ml pH Down to bring the lot to pH 5.7-5.8 This brought me to about 1.6EC, pH6.4 (Expected value was 1.521 from Hydrobuddy Calc for the * ingredients - My water bases at 0.2EC so a close enough calc!!!) - Higher than I have been putting in but i think most of the EC rise is from the Sulfate in the Epsom Salts (The Sulfur alone is about 0.32EC). Also, with it coming late autumn and the tent in an outdoor cabin, got a temp controller to bring on a heater to stop the temp dropping below 16.5C...its now averaging out around 18.7 during the night so that's decent enough (Was potentially getting sub 15C - recent day temps have been 9-11C so could have been pretty chilly in there!!!). Also put my aquarium heater in the tank to bring the solution to around 19C as 1 of the plants has grew an absolute root mass into the tank itself - It is defying the Smart Pots and getting itself into there even after a pruning a few weeks back!!! So, tank change happened a few days early but what the hey...passed the time with a hot whiskey or 5!!! :P ******************************************** Day 78 - Really haven't done anything with the girls the last week. Just been topping up with pH adjusted water, bringing down the nute strength a bit as they're taking on water but not really taking on any nutes. General monitoring. Think I am going to have to get a heater out in the cabin as the night (IRL Day temps) are getting 15C and below so worried that could be impacting some nute uptake - Gave them an epsom foliar last night and then the bi-weekly Geisha foliar spray just before lights out this morning. Apart from that, nothing new. Happy growing all.

Should I top 1 more time? I have (Example pic) 4 good nodes at the end of the 2 main branches. Should I top these to allow the ones mid branch to pick up and boost or should I leave them now and just flip in a week or 2? Think they're near end of veg as not putting on any height!

Hi! No need for topping anymore at this point. I'd say if you want to control the growth just use LST now, if you bend the top lower than the mid part, the hormones will make the mid part grow more. And probably the reason for not gaining height so much is that you have been training them and it has become more bushier now 'cos the plant don't know when veg time ends until you flip the switch to 12/12 Happy growing!

Evening all, noticing I have some yellowing leaves at the bottom of the plant and they're breaking away easy. Top very healthy as can be seen in pics but wondering is this normal for a SCRoG? Light Deprivation maybe?

It’s normal under the scrog the leaves will not get light so give nutrient to the upper part of the plants and die ✌️🏽

Wondering how close I am to Harvest here? These were all 50-60 day strains. Back Left CK leaves are lightening up like mad...the others are following (Currently on Dragon Force and boost) but the purple (Front left of canopy) still light pistils! No Good Trich pics to see amber!

@NorthernFrostCannabis I believe the idea of flushing (and I am neither for nor against) rallies round the fact that this is the only fruit you really dry and smoke! When the plant loses its water through drying and curing, the salts come out of solution in the cells and crystalise in the flower; this leads to harsh burning, sparking and the "Black Ash" phenomenon. As a counter (For debate only), you don't dry strawbs or anything else for smoking so there is no other real comparison out there (Apart from maybe some natural psychedelics or something similar). The only close comparison I can think that shows how salts can affect the smoke/smoothness/ash colour/burning out is counterfeit cigarettes. If you buy a legit brand, light it and leave it in an ashtray, it will burn through with a clean white ash all the way to the butt. If you buy counterfeit smokes, light them and leave them in an ashtray, you'll see they burn to black ash and burn out way before the butt. This is "believed" to happen due to the fact that brands "poison" their off cuts and left overs of tobacco with Saltpeter (Potassium Nitrate - KNO3) and that's what the counterfeiters use when making their cheap branded smokes (The 'poisoned' off cuts that is). If you smoke tobacco and have bought the cheapo version of brands, you'll defs have come across this. Suppose the idea of flushing is to make sure the extra Potassium you add during flower for boost or the nitrate used during grow gets used up so as there is as little as possible to crystalise in the dried product; giving a smoother and better quality end product. Stress as well...It can be productive in growth of cannabis as we light stress it into flowering, LST and HST all the time for better yields (topping/FIMMing, bending, supercropping, etc.). Plus, studies have shown that UVB, which is a massive stressor to the plant, is one of the reasons resin is produced...its a UVB blocker so the plant makes it to protect itself from cellular damage - we just have to make sure we use the right stressors at the right time! Again, I am in no way disagreeing with you...but its always good to have healthy debate around things! :) Cheers for the answer and happy and healthy growing to yourself too! :)

Strangely, leaving the leaves on is better and faster for drying your flowers, as there is more surface area for the water to "escape" from. If you wet trim, all the water in your flowers must "escape" through the flowers themselves, which can leach some of the terpenes out at the same time. Also the trichomes are much better protected against falling off if you dry the flowers with the leaves left on. If you wet trim, all the trichomes are exposed and can get rubbed off much more easily, mainly just from handling them. If you leave the leaves on, and hang the flowers upside down, the leaves will droop around your flowers, forming a kind of protective layer. To protect your flowers and their trichomes to their best standard, it is best to trim right before consumption. Hope this helps.... Organoman.

Day 12....So...had a bit of time on my hands! Expected bereavement happened earlier in the week and needed to put my mind somewhere else (RIP ma!!!)! So I gave the (hopefully) girls a bit more attention this evening. As they all seemed to take to the topping, and there was plenty of fresh green sprouting nodes, I decided they needed some light too so began a bit of LST and defoliation. Was feared of doing too much due to the chlorosis on a few leaves but I believe now (thanks to Ed Rosenthals book - Marijuana Garden Saver) I'm potentially looking at more of a Ca/Mg deficiency than a nitrogen OD (I live in an area with water that tops out CaCO3 @ 19ppm!!!). During the week, thanks to some honest and well informed advice from @GMSgrows, I upped my Ca/Mg a bit as I was using lower end of the recommended scale (Plus my nute provider sent me Hard Water variant of A/B rather than the soft water variant I asked for so Ca is a great candidate for the deficeincy!!!). Seeing no real progression now from the chlorosis so hopefully caught up to it all (says the amateur!!!). Think (before I speak too prematurely) I am dialed in this week. Water dropping in volume, EC staying put at 1.1 and pH only has a drift of about 0.1 towards neutral a day (working at 5.8 as my starter). Today I reset the pH to 5.8 as it was @ 6.1 So defoliation, basically, the single and 3 fan leaves got it!!! After pinning stuff down, I was worried the top leaves touching the lower ones could allow any fungus/infection to start so they got gone (In all fairness, I was also worried the leaf spots were Septoria potentially as well so they did get a bi-carb/oil/fairy liquid spray too so was to minimise transposition)!!! Also got a bit better airflow into the room...as much as I am in a @Budbox tent, the grow is in a cabin...the wall is SW facing so gets some fair heat so that's a hard one to manage and her indoors will not let me drill vent holes all over the place to make shit obvious!!! Got a good hidden window venting going on so temps down from 90F+ at peak to a more respectable 74 (24C in new money!). May need to invest in a swamp cooler/humidifier or turn off my dehumidifier (even though its set to 60) as the tent stays sub 50%RH (closer to 40%) even with side vent open and a gap in the zip to allow more fresh in!!! Finally, added a milk jug CO2 generator. Don't know how much it puts in but hopefully more is better than ambient (As I cant drill holes, the vent goes back into the room...at least blowing on the ballast it keeps it very cool!!!)! Basic setup was the generator, and expansion tank/bubble counter and aquarium tube to the back grille of the oscillating fan. Generator ingredients were about 3pints H2O in a 2L (4qt) milk jug, a handful of raisins as a slow burn sugar, a cup of granulated sugar and a table spoon each of NaHCO3 (Sodium Bicarbonate, Bicarbonate of Soda, Baking Soda) and Yeast. BTW, I hope this is helpful to new growers, been that long since I grew anything and totally 1st solo run AND 1st run at hydroponics, I hope it comes in useful and always willing to share info or accept greater wisdom!

@xbrico, 1.6 is crazy low yeah, I don't know what could cause that big drop. Hopefully you'll find out what causes it in the end.. We're learning every day! I'll keep checking in to see if you can solve it, would indeed be nice to know.

@DreamOn, I am thinking of changing nutes next grow...Dunno about to AN though, I use their Sensizym but that's it...they are quare expensive. Thinking of changing to Botanicare KIND line next grow. What has me miffed though is this whole grow, and I mean whole grow...pH has risen by 0.1/day and EC stable..even as I upped it for each week. Some reason though (It does seem to coincide though with starting or around starting PK9/18 - i could be imagining this though) it has went totally flipped over! I have seen people bring up the same thing happening around week3+ of flower but never mention if they resolve it or get to harvest...the threads all seem to die!!! Now, usually (From any Hydro guide I have seen), if pH drops and EC rises, its a nute strength issue and it should be dropped...but the frosti girl could be the problem here...Its made its way into the res and quite a lot of root mass too...Which means if its feeding on something, its likely putting out H+ and dropping the pH OR, as a spanner in the works, means that the EC is too low for it and its leaching food back into the res and the EC needs to be higher for it!!! I am worried though that the other girls, with the roots being contained, would take a hammering from the higher EC - was close to 2.0 on the Truncheon there when I did my check from 1.6/1.7 yesterday!!! Was thinking, too late this grow, of getting something like the Torus Hydro pH perfect for next grow as its an in-tank pH buffer and should keep it all in check basically for a full grow! the AN pH buffer I think only is good for 5 days and they're an expensive nute company to change a tank every 5-7 days!

@xbrico, I actually just had the same issue with PH dropping like 0.5 a day and ppm increasing until i changed nutrients to advanced nutrients from GHE. Also took down the reservoar temp 2c with using interval timer on my pump (aero). That has seemed to helped me at least.

Dont overthink things. Sometimes the plants take food, sometimes they just take the water from the food. This is why your ec changes from time to time.

@canton, From everything I am seeing, you top before you get 8 full nodes. I have 5 or 6 on them. They're generally very squat nodes as they are a. short genetics and b. I've had them under a 6400/6500K bulb since sprouting so they have very small internode distance. They were planted around a month ago so when I say veg week 2, they're probs nearer 4 weeks old. Hope this helps. BTW, if you have any better experience, please do share. I am always open to new knowledge! :)

Day 77 - A bit of tidying up to do, just getting dead and dropping from the bottom of the canopy. Thinking of going sterile res now for the last couple of weeks too as feared of any late root issues. pH actually dropped for the 1st time in this whole grow (from a 6 to a 5.6 overnight) which has never happened so have topped up with plain water, bringing EC down to 1.3 (Was around 1.5) and will continue to monitor. Worried a pH drop in significant direction can be an infection so will push me more to sterile for the last couple of weeks if there any more of an overnight drop!
xbrico
xbricocommentedweek 104 years ago
Day 73 - Not much change...ppm starting to rise (EC1.7) as water goes down so added some 0ppm water to the tank via the tops of the clay (To see if there was a need to flush)....res dropped in ppm to EC1.4 so roots seem clean, just looks like they want some water at the moment so happy with that.

xbricocommentedweek 94 years ago
Day 62 - Nothing really much here to add...think any "Stretch" these girls had have stopped. Now they're happily ticking along. Just keeping an eye on my numbers (EC and pH) and they seem fine for the moment so leaving them be until my next recipe change of nutes this Monday coming.
xbrico
xbricocommentedweek 84 years ago
Day 56 - Happy b'day to me!!! :) Everything still ticking along nicely. EC starting to rise so looks like the girls are happy with water or some of the lesser nutes at the moment. Tomorrow is a full tank change day so will be bringing the EC down a bit (Has crept up to 1.9 - began around 1.6 on my last top up 4 days ago - probs be aiming for 1.4-1.5 tomorrow) and dropping the bloom nutes strength some to get ready for PK Warrior week 4 (a week away yet).
xbrico
xbricocommentedweek 84 years ago
Day 53 - Most likely more canopy maintenance....it doesn't end!!! :) which isn't too bad i suppose!!! May try mainlining next time but what the hey. Plants drinking like mad...probs 4-5L per day so another 20L of solution going into keep the tank fresh until Monday change out. All mixes still the same proportions...looks like more a 1.5 in the top up mix (average) and a 5.7pH so should bring the tank back to a nice 1.6EC and an pH of approx 5.8 **Edit** - Bloom A&B went in @ 3ml/L as EC was slightly high on test last night (1.8) - all back to 1.7 now and 5.7pH **Edit 2** - Ca/Mg went in at 1ml/L as using tap water and not mineral water
xbrico
xbricocommentedweek 74 years ago
day 48 - Top up of the tank tonight...they've gone through about 20-25L of water since Monday. EC eeked up to 1.7 (Was measuring smaller numbers so there a wee bit extra feed went in - like a ml or 2) and pH back to 5.8. Girls still looking plenty healthy and no burn so hopefully still ticking along the way it should be!
xbrico
xbricocommentedweek 74 years ago
Day 47 - Not been too much change in the girls since the flip. They haven't freaked out and went on a growing spree so thats grand so far. Just doing some bud site moving and retucking and removed a few top leaves to allow the smaller sites to get some light. They're happily drinking and nutes staying pretty settled at EC1.6 with no signs of stress and pH on is usual 0.1 per day drift.
xbrico
xbricocommentedweek 64 years ago
Day 42 - Been a busy week this week so the girls have not had much attention from me but looks like they're seeing no harm from it! :) The screen looking pretty damn full compared to 6 days ago so tomorrow is the beginning of their Autumn - fear hitting me now if I have enough horizontal space for their stretch or enough gaps in the mesh. Big 12/12 day and changing from the 600W Omega MH lamp to the 600W Growlux Dual Spectrum HPS. Added a Sicce Nano Voyager pump to the tank just to keep the nutes well mixed and grabbing a drill pump tomorrow for tank maintenance as the screen does make it a bit of a PITA to work with. Have some Great White Bennies landing tomorrow...Dunno if Its worth adding to the tank for 4 weeks just to really help the roots out for nute uptake but cant seeing it doing any harm so will probs just add to give them any extra help they may need!!! :) Also, for the 1st time in the grow, the EC dropped some (only .1 like but its something) so they're hungry and ready.
