In the middle of Week 5 I noticed a yellowing of the top leaves. At first I thought this might be due to my lighting being too close to the canopy, but I now believe it is due to the ph level being too low. I noticed, unfortunately too late, that my ph meter needed re-calibrating. I am now using a second ph meter to verify my readings are correct. Week 5 summary: Up until Week 5, everything progressed just fine, but over the last week I experienced my first problems. The top leaves started turning pale/yellow, which I am attributing to either heat stress and/or overfeeding. Since the tips of a few other leaves further down are also yellow (only about 1 mm), I think overfeeding is involved. In addition to this, I noticed that the large bottom fan leaves have also turned yellow/brown and are drooping. I'm attributing this to overwatering. I've taken corrective measures and will report how things develop in Week 6.

I think I should have started with LST sooner. The main stem is rather rigid now. Unfortunately, I was away during Week 3. Would you recommend gradually pulling it sideways or better to leave it alone at this stage?

What are your thoughts on defoliating autoflowers? Some of the larger fan leaves are shading the lower flowers and I’m wondering whether to could get rid of them. I’ve read conflicting information on this topic.

i don't defoliate my autoflowers, instead i tuck the bigger leaves behind the branches i want to expose to the light, if possible

I noticed the tips of the top leaves are becoming paler, even slightly yellow. Could this be light stress/burn? My LEDs were approx. 30 cm from the canopy, now moved them up 15 cm.

Servus Zweibel, I think Sanlight is suggesting around 40cm in bloom. I myself have the Q4 and the Q6 1st Gen. and I never come closer than 40cm to my damsels. I'm not sure if it's lightstress, I have a textbook example of lightstress in my White widow diary. So have a peak. Yellow tips seem moore nutrient trouble...🤔 Any trouble with pH shortly? Best of luck, OimRausch ✌️

I have been adjusting my ph level to around 6.2-6.5. Now I'm wondering whether this was a mistake (see previous post), since I'm using BioBizz Light Mix (60%), coco coir (30%) and perlite (10%) as my substrate. Our tap water has a ph level of about 7.3.

Hi Zweibel, 6.2-6.5 is absolutely perfect. What I can say is, the moore dead material you have in the soil, the moore pH fluctuations you'll have. I'm having the same situation at my actual run, especially at the Purple Haze. My mix was 15% perlite, 30% coco coir, 55% Soil. Next run I'll reduce to max 30% of the inert materials (15% coco, 15% perlite) Hope this will help. Cheerz mate and good luck. OimRausch

I think this is due to a combination of overwatering (1l per 24 h in 60% Light-Mix, 30% coco, 10% perlite) and possibly overfeeding (used close to recommended dosage). I have let her dry out for almost 2 days and today watered 0.5 l plain water ph-ed to 6.5. What do you think?

I'd like to try slow-release dry amendments for my next grow. Mr. Canucks on Youtube uses Gaia Green for this, but unfortunately this brand is not available in Europe. The only equivalent I can find is livingsoilsfertiliser.com. Has anyone tried them or can suggest another brand?

Hey mate I actually amend my soil with free things such as cow/chicken manure, you can add tons of compost/humus from the forest, and then for the flowering you can but some bat guano and you'll have some cute babies

@GMSgrows, Yes, I'm not going to worry too much. It's only got a few more weeks to go and although a couple more leaves are starting to go I don't know what else I can do. Rest of the plant looks ok.

Girl looks nice and healthy going into flower. I use ph drip tester and look at colour to verify my ph probe reading. Colour doesnt lie. I will then calibrate the probe if it's off. Going into flower when preflowering starts, I usually give my girls a feed at half veg and half bloom nutes at the veg rate. Then when button size buds form they get straight flower nutes but I start low, look for signs of early yellowing and increase if I see any. Always less is best cuz easy to increase and a pain in the ass to repair. Go overboard on nutes in flower and plants will suffer. Cheers friend, looking forward to peeking in from time to time..

@GMSgrows, Thanks, the drip tester is an excellent tip. I'll definitely try that.

Hey, Zu deiner Frage nach einer Alternative zu Gaia Green, schau mal bei Green house powder feeding Bio nach.

I think I now know the reason for the yellowing of the top leaves. As suggested by @@OimRausch, it's probably due to the ph level being off. When preparing the water today, I noticed that the vlaue of my Bluelab ph-meter was too high. Although I calibrated it only recently, it clearly needed re-calibrating. I've decided to verfiy my readings with a second ph meter in future. Fortunately, I also own an Adwa meter.
