July 1: started LST using pipe cleaner and clips onto the edge of the grow bag. This seems like a quick and easily adjusted LST system. Normally I don’t think I would do LST on outdoor plants, but I’m experimenting on how to grow plants quickly without delays due to topping or fimming.
July 3: I thought this plant was struggling but it’s suddenly looking really good and the LST seems to be going well.
The fimming seems to have produced at least four colas.
July 6: Released the top LST holder. The main stem is now curved and the lower branches are nicely sized. We’ll see if the plant now straightens backup and gets any taller.
July 7: Raining again...
July 16: still more rain...
July 17: starting to look like real buds with even some of the pistils starting to turn brown. I think I over did it with this plant (fimmed and then LST) but it still might work out. The plant is a bit smaller than I expected and I think it was because it was too cool overnight during the veg phase for this plant.
The buds are thickening and getting frosty. I’m a bit concerned about the lack of height due to my fimming but there are several colas so maybe it will work out.
July 26: too many colas so I had to apply LST to get some light to the buds. Using pipe cleaners and paper clips which are super easy and effective.
The plant is almost ready judging by the trichromes. Will wait a bit longer but just giving it pHed water from now on.
July 27: I ignored yesterday’s comment and gave it some molasses water today. 😎
July 29: f*ing hot last few days so doing extra watering.
Aug 1: hot again today. Harvested a 5 g wet weight bud as a tester. The buds are looking really nice and frosty. I’m looking forward to trying this plant. 🤠
Aug 3: looking nice and frosty and the buds are thickening, but still no amber trichromes. Still just getting pHed water.
Aug3-6: very hot for this area for last two weeks (near 30C), but rain on Aug 7. Yesterday it felt like 32C and today it maxed out at 14C.
Aug 7: drilled two small holes (3/32” to match width of stem) at right angles to each other about one cm apart this morning. This should be equivalent to ‘stem splitting’ and way less hassle.
Checked in the afternoon and the buds seem to have more orange pistils since being drilled about 7 hours ago. The buds also seem to be much harder and look better so this might be a good technique even for autos. Pics are from 9 hours after drilling the stem and buds are definitely responding to this HST.
Smoke report pending. Tester confirms this is a strong indica. I agree with “it will appeal to home growers looking for maximum potency”.
Yep, wicked strong indica. 🤠👍
Harvested first thing in the morning after being kept in the dark for about 12 hours.
This plant was a short but classic indica phenotype which I’ve read is one of three for this strain. I probably should not have fimmed this plant but I expected it to be a taller and bigger yielding phenotype based on other diaries here. Anyway, the buds are really nice and frosty and appear to be quite hard even right at harvest (I.e. before curing). No bud rot or other problems despite having quite dense buds.
This a strong indica and I’m interested to see how strong.
@Northern_Ent,
I am hoping for some good outdoor results myself this year. Your diaries are a good inspiration for doing what you can do get the best quality in yield and product
@MalicetoDream, thanks. I think this turned out the best buds of all my plants so far and I’m looking forward to trying some nicely cured buds here soon.
@Djek2018, thanks. I fimmed it and decided I also wanted to try some LST. Not sure if that combo was a good idea or not, but wanted to try it. It’s usually cool overnight here and I don’t think this plant handles that as well as some others. Basically I think I might have too many colas going, but it might work out great as the plant is still pretty young.
