Having huge problems with pythium due to high temperatures in my res (25C). I tried up to 50ml H2O2 / 21l of water and still did nothing. Then I aded sodium hypochlorite 24% at 10ml / 21l and that got rid of pythium. Now I'm ading 1ml / 21l every 24h and it seems to work. If anyone has any advice of some product I can use against pythium that will work even with high res temperatures and can be bought in EU please leave a reply.
@grower_not_shower, You are so right about the genetics. There are some remarkable genetics available, but they are genuinely rare. Typically it’s a poor value to buy pricey seeds. I’ll put my home bred seeds up against any known brand out there. My flowers are gorgeous, tasty and potent.
The cheapest regular seed will be about $3US. The cheapest feminized is closer to $10. In theory you need twice as many reg seeds as feminized to get the same number of girl plants.
But you’re paying a premium to not have to grow and eliminate males. There is some value in not having to grow and toss the males, I admit.
Most importantly, breed your own for one grow and have free seeds for years!!
@vancitybuzz, just received mail from seedstockers a week ago, i read about them in a local online magazine, 5 seeds for 9 euros, that's around 10$. i came upon their site in search of an improved critical strain, they have nice prices.
if i'm correct the shipping was free too...
happy growing
@vancitybuzz,Yep, 20 total. They deliver to US/Canada. Depends on the strain, if it's feminized or not, if it's autoflower or not, but they are quite cheap. You don't need to spend a lot of money on "great genetics" where half of the seeds price is the fancy packaging, at least not for your first grows.
Really took you 17 weeks to grow? wowzers? what happened? why so long if you do not mind me asking? Just curious cause I just started a grow with the same seeds from the same bank. Thanks!
@RaptoR,
To be honest I only did autos because I don't have a tent. Autos save me a lot of money, I don't have to buy a tent, carbon filter, ventilation fan. But yeah, if I had a tent I would grow photos and would maybe do a scrog and veg the plant to be huge.
@grower_not_shower,
Yeah , I definitely agree. But in my case , I only have one growbox so if one vegges , they all veg...whereas with autos you can bloom and veg in the same space... Thats better for me in a way as I work away from home , month on month off , so when I leave they have to do theyre own thing...
Also , the small size of autos is very nice for me as I have a aquaponic growbox above my fish tank , and im only left with abou 1,1m headroom. Then again , cant really top or fim autos so I guess it swings both ways... Im giving the photos a chance with this grow and the next hopefully Ill have some autos to put in to see how they do...
@RaptoR,
Yep. Comparing this grow (done with Meizhi LED) to my current grow (with 260w QBs) I don't see much difference in how advanced they were at the same age. Yeah, you can get autos that are done in 11 weeks but they will be small and with poor yield. I'd rather have a nice big auto that yields great even if it takes 16 weeks.
Hey what about setting the bucket inside something with a few inches of cold water in it? Even sitting it on an icepak type thing would help because it would cool the bottom of the bucket, and the bubbler on the bottom would help take that coolness up to the top
@vancitybuzz,From what I've read, the best thing would be Hydroguard, it works even with high water temperatures, but is available only in US, so that's not an option for me.
@vancitybuzz,But then how do you keep that cold? Easiest suggestion I've seen is putting a 2L bottle in the freezer and then putting it in the res water, but that means you would have to replace it at least every 6 hours. Sodium hypochlorite seems to be working for me and I've lowered the air temperature a bit from 27C to 23-24C, the plant and the roots seem to love the lower temperatures.
seeing this growth happen so fast is making my eyes well up I'm almost crying. I've been ready to grow for months and haven't found clones and the one time I ordered seeds I killed them all. god fucking damnit this is depressing
@vancitybuzz, Seeds are quite cheap, I payed 45 EUR for 5 Auto Fem GDP and I got another 5 Auto Fem GDP for free and another 10 free mystery seeds, and that's from MSNL which are based in UK I think. Seeds in the US are way cheaper. Being my first grow, I wanted to grow auto fem because I didn't want to spend money on a tent and then also the risk of having males... If I manage to harvest something from this grow, maybe the third grow will be the mystery seeds and I'll invest in a tent.
@rusty grizwald,I tried to take a few pics but you can't see much because she's too bushy. You can see the pics from week 5, since then I tied down another 2 buds.
@vancitybuzz, Good idea. I was lucky I only tried one at a time because I killed my first 3 seeds. If they're not feminized you have 50% chance of them being male, so you should plant at least one more than you want to keep.
I covered the top with mylar tape and added great white seems to be doing the job I covered the whole top including pebbles because clay can get warm quick
Looks like the mycorrhydro caused some nice root growth. Looking forward to seeing how it works for you. I just started using sodium hypo. and it's working heavenly. Your res temps are definitely your biggest nemesis
@vancitybuzz,I started with 0.05ml of 24% bleach for every 1L of water every 24 hours and I still had pythium. Then I upped it to 0.1ml/L and it solved the problem for a while. As the plant got bigger, I had to add more and more bleach. The most I got to was 0.2ml/L every 24 hours and that kept the pythium away. But as I said, MycorrHydro or other beneficials (Hydroguard, ect.) are way better.
@vancitybuzz,I have quite high rez water temperatures and I had a lot of pythium at one point, so if I didn't add hypo everyday, the pythium came back. I tried adding it only once every 48 hours and after 30 hours the pythium was back. With beneficials it's much easier, you add them when you change the rez water and then you're all set untill the next rez change. And roots grow much bigger with beneficials. If you can afford it, Hydroguard or other beneficials are definitely better than sodium hypochloride, at least for me they were.
