Momgrowsthechronic Welcome to my latest grow of the much anticipated Bruce Banner #3 plants courtesy of the nice folks over at Original Sensible Seeds. Thank you so much! The packaging is simple, environmentally friendly and all 4 seeds were perfect. All of the seeds germinated in only 2 days using peat pellets and a small germination tray. Super easy and super vigorous so far! The set up is the usual with the specifics listed in my info above (tent, lights, etc.) with the exception of the grow medium. I was super impressed with how well the Fox Farm CoCo LoCo had performed in a previous grow so I attempted to recreate the recipe. One of the main ingredients in the CoCo LoCo is composted forest humus so I used a similar product called Biofor (a mixture of forest compost and peat) prepared by a Canadian company called Fafard. I also added plain CoCo and Fox Farm Happy Frog for the initial burst of nutrients needed to take these plants through their first 4-6 weeks. I used a third of each ingredient plus some Perlite and then had my husband mix it all up with a spade drill attached to a basic mixing paddle- works amazing for perfectly blended grow medium every time! 5 gallon fabric pots will take these plants from seedling to harvest with no need for transplanting throughout the grow. I am also hoping that the extra organic ingredients vs. my usual straight CoCo/Gaia Green mixture will correct some of the minor deficiencies that keep showing up. I will be amending the mixture with the Gaia Green in future between weeks 4-6. Unfortunately, with a more natural growing medium comes more natural unwanted guests- fungus gnats! I’ve got the yellow sticky strips in each pot- ready to catch any adult flies before they have too much time to reproduce. There’s always compromise when trying to find the perfect recipe for big, beautiful plants every time. That’s it for week 1, see ya next time and happy growing everyone! Continued thanks to our frontline workers still fighting through Covid- we are still with you and super grateful for all you do!

Momgrowsthechronic Welcome back to week #2- an explosive week for all four Bruce Banner #3 plants! I am super impressed with this strain so far and I believe that all four plants will be ready for topping sometime over week 3. Plant A is the tallest at 8.5" with the other three plants B, C & D all coming in at 6" respectively. The lower branches are already stretching for the light and I have a feeling that I am going to be doing a-lot of leaf tucking with this strain. Because I have added more organic ingredients to this grows’ medium, it’s more like soil than most of my previous indoor grows. Therefore, I am only having to water every 4th day even though temperatures in the tent are in the low 80’s. The very first watering was at .05 of a litre, moving up to a full litre per plant for the rest of week 1 & 2. At the end of week 2, I am up to 2 litres per plant per watering which is being done every 4th day. Overall, a great start for these girls! Looking forward to checking in with everyone at the end of next week and happy growing! 😻

Momgrowsthechronic Apologies for the late update on week 3 but here it is... All four of the Bruce Banner #3 Autoflowers have been doing great! This strain is vigorous and thriving in temperatures hovering in the low 80’s with a humidity level anywhere from 45-55%. I am still watering 3 litres every fourth day with air bubbled tap water at a PH of 6.5-6.8. Because of the grow medium being mostly organic this cycle, I am not using CalMag at this time and hopefully the plants will not need it moving forward. All four of the Bruce Banner #3 were topped during week 3- Plant A on day 17 and plants B, C & D on day 19. I have also been doing a lot of Light Stress Training (LST) as this strain has bounced back quickly from the topping and I can see the potential for opening the plants up to create bountiful bud sites throughout! The tallest plant has doubled in size during week 3 and the others aren’t far behind her so I would say that everything is looking great going into week four. Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you for next week... please don’t forget to check the little box if you like what you see! 😎

Momgrowsthechronic So, the week 4 update is actually on time as the four Bruce Banner #3 plants have just passed the 1 month/4 week/28 day mark! They have really put a lot of energy into growing their lower branches up and out since they were topped in week 3. The tallest plant is now at 27" and the other three are close behind at 20-22" so I have raised the light on one side of my tent to accommodate the rapid growth. I have continued with the LST to ensure that light really penetrates into the centre of the plants as well as along the stretched out branches. And as a result, all four of the Bruce Banner #3 plants are bursting with bud sites! Unfortunately these lovely ladies are well on their way into flower and I was hoping for an additional week at least- for further vegetative growth. Oh well... this is definitely a fast flowering strain with vigorous growth rates and loads of bud sites- nothing to complain about there! They are still being watered every fourth day and are up to 3.5-4 litres/almost 1 gallon per plant. I have been leaf tucking like crazy rather than defoliating but the canopy within the tent is getting pretty crowded- some defoliation will be required soon. It’s all good at the end of month one, looking forward to seeing where this goes. Till next week, stay happy, healthy and high! 🇨🇦

Momgrowsthechronic Apologies for missing the week 5 update, I was having some home renovations done and these ladies had to be tucked away for safety/security reasons. So just a quick recap- week 5 was a big deal for the Bruce Banner #3 plants as all four of them were moved out of the tent into a safe, sunny, outdoor location. I also amended all four plants with Gaia Green all organic slow time release fertilizer at 1/3 the full dose. So, instead of 3 tablespoons per gallon- I’m feeding 1 tablespoon per gallon because they’re auto’s and they’re not huge plants. Because they are now outside- it’s really hot and they are in fabric pots so I’ve had to drastically increase their water intake. They’ve gone from 1 gallon/4 litres to 5 gallons/20 litres when needed which is usually every 2nd-3rd day. Now tonnes of water seeps out of the fabric pots when bucket watering- thus the reason for really flooding them with a large volume of water. It’s the only way I can guarantee that the medium is fully soaked all the way through and before you know it- they’re bone dry again! Oh well, it’s more work but it’s free sunshine and the plants are loving it! Week 6 and all four plants are fully into flower now, this was the end of the flowering stretch and pure bud development/growth for these ladies. This strain has been strong and vigorous from day one and all four plants are packed with bud sites! There is resin production already and a sweet, skunky aroma throughout the day but strongest in the evening/overnight. I am happy and excited to see how this grow turns out and I look forward to checking in for the next update. Until then- enjoy this beautiful summer but stay healthy in the ongoing Covid craziness.

Momgrowsthechronic Week 7 was super disappointing for the Bruce Banner #3 as I made the discovery that my beautiful buds were full of developing seeds. 😭 I noticed shortly after the week 6 photos that many of the plant’s white hairs/pistols were browning off much sooner than normal as well as the buds appeared to be pineappling up much sooner than usual. While defoliating I decided to squeeze what I thought was an extremely swollen calyx only to discover that it had an almost fully mature seed inside of it. 😱 Upon further inspection, I found a significant volume of developing seeds throughout the buds on all four plants. Not sure how they were fertilized as I don’t have any other plants around and I didn’t see any male/hermie flowers on these beauties to self pollinate. But fertilized/pollinated they were so I chopped and discarded all four of the Bruce Banner #3 plants. 😥 It’s a crying shame but there’s no sense in putting any further time/resources into a heavily seeded harvest. Apologies and another thank you to Original Sensible Seeds for these seeds- unfortunately this harvest just wasn’t meant to be... I doubt that I will be growing outdoors much after this loss, it’s just so unpredictable. Thanks to all who have been following along and another Sensible Seeds grow coming up soon! 🇨🇦

I was unable to complete the grow as the plants were somehow fertilized and well on their way to seed by the time I figured out what was going on. But I will say that this particular strain had an unbelievable amount of bud sites and the potential to be a massive harvest. Super disappointed and heartbreaking to have to chop four big, beautiful, healthy but fully fertilized plants. 😢

Momgrowsthechronic I finally decided to finish the harvest report for this diary so that it no longer shows as a current grow. So after growing 3 different strains given to me by the Original Sensible Seeds Company, I would not recommend. I found male flowers during the second grow and my third grow was mysteriously pollinated just prior to harvest as well. Because I took a chance and moved these plants outside, I can’t say 100% that these weren’t pollinated by an unidentified source. Based on what I observed with the other two Original Sensible Seeds grows, I am pretty sure that I missed a male flower or two tucked in the lower canopy of the plants. Thus pollinating a potentially massive harvest and resulting in a heartbreaking chop of all four plants. I will not grow anything from this breeder again until they work out the kinks in their genetics. Thank you Original Sensible Seeds for the free beans and the opportunity to showcase your genetics- the good, bad and the ugly. 👎🏼😢🤷‍♀️

Moms is back! I've found that soils that contain added Mycos usually come preinfested with fungus gnats. Since this is their food source. Just add water and they come to life. I don't know if they have it up there but I use a product called "mosquito bits"and cover the surface of my pots with them. They contain a special bacteria which kill them in the grub stage. Around week 4 I usually add a 1 inch layer of 1/8" to 3/16 pumice. The pumice drys fast and they don't like to lay eggs in dry substrate. That with the sticky traps keeps them at bay.

@Philindicus, are "mosquito bits" a Canadian product or ? Not sure where you live and I can’t seem to find them anywhere in Canada. Thanx!

@Momgrowsthechronic, I'm in Florida so it's a bit seasonal down here so I usually buy a few of them. Not sure if there is a huge mosquito issue in Canada in the summer. Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies Israelensis is the species of bacteria. https://www.arbico-organics.com/category/bti-bacillus-thurengiensis-israelensis Not sure if Arbico ships to canada but they have a lot of organic solutions including nematodes.

Good luck with the new grow. I have been making my own soil mixture and found the easiest way to control the gnats is with beneficial nematodes. Two treatments will take care of 'em. I use "em proactively and nip 'em in the bud. Peace
Momgrowsthechronic
Momgrowsthechroniccommented5y ago
@Smowkabowl, what brand of nematodes are you using please? I saw something at my local nursery and it was packaged in a round, plastic sphere. I will see if they still have them in stock asap. How do you apply the treatment?

Smowkabowlcommented5y ago
@Momgrowsthechronic, those are probably Pot Poppers. They have a few different kind depending on the pest. You want the one for fungus gnats..... Steinernema Feltiae (Sf). I have used that brand once before and work well. I currently use Biologics brand and use the sticky yellow cards as detectors to monitor numbers. It is more expensive but effective. Peace

@Cyrusdavirus, no worries! This grow has been uncompleted on my boards since last spring. Just wanted to finish out the diary so that it wasn’t showing as a current grow any longer.
