Usually I germ directly in soil, which i did for the White Stomper after the Ripleys didnt make it.
They all popped in 36 hours and got planted in the following soil mix.
This mix will make fill 10x 7.5 gallon pots.
For the bottom half of the pot i mixed the following.
1 3cuft bag of RO Formula 707
1 1.5cuft bag of Emerald Forest
1 bag Buckaroo Worm Castings
1 bag Humisoil
1 bag Mephisto Genetics Super Soil Mix
5 tbs of mykos
2 handfuls of Granulated Humic Acid
and a layer and spike mix of my own devising. I'll post it eventually.
and I should have mixed in one small bag of perlite as well, I fear that the bottom is going to retain too much water this run. I know for next time.
The top is the following:
1 3cu ft bag of Roots Organic 707
1 bag Buckaroo Worm Castings
3 tbs mykos
This is my Starter recipe I give at 1 week. Notice there are absolutely no fertilizers in any of these products. All the food my plants need are already in the soil read to go, I just need to get my microbial herd started so they can help the plant convert those minerals into what the plant needs. All this was brewed for 72 hours adding a tsp of Molasses every 24 hours, then mixed into 10 gallons of water and each plant was given 1 gallon in a 7.5 gallon pot.
These were germinated using the paper towel method, which was my first time germinating this way and produced 100% roots at 36 hours. I did, however, lose my ripleys og at 4 days. This caused me to drop a new seed - the White Stomper (Walter White x Sour Stomper - Mephisto Genetics.) It is 10 days behind the others on germ date.
So the following germinated on 12/12
3 - Alien v. Triangle
2 - Hubba Bubba Smelloscope
2 - Skystomper
2 - StarDawg
1 - White stomper (Germ Date 12/22)
Of all of these strains, if I had to pick one to be most excited about, it would be Alien v. Triangle. The potency and size reports I've gotten from other growers have put this one on a pedestal as the center of many gardens. However, the Skystomper, a cross between Skywalker OG and Sour Stomper, reaaaally has me interested to see what she can do. With those two parents, anything could happen.
I am also very excited to see what the StarDawg from Fast Buds does in the bigger pot. She yielded well in a 5gallon and she was in everyones top 3 out of last run and was a few peoples favorite. In my experience bigger pots does not only provide more yield, but a healthier bud structure and firmer more fragrant buds. The plants really seem to do well in the tall pots.
So buckle up. Lets get the winter run underway.
They are really starting to take off now - The Fungal gnats hit early this run so I have the mosquito bits in now. Anyone have a good way to deal with Fungal Gnats that doesnt involve any non-organic pesticides? I use mosquito bits. I know predatory Nematodes are supposed to work well but I havent tried them yet. Any other ideas?
Side Note - that OG Teas Veganic Special Sauce was a tip from my buddy @roningarden over at Instagram. Trying it for the first time this run, looks like its gonna be a good'n.👌🙏🙏🙏
Trucking along through week 4. Stretch is starting for sure, about a week after i expected but that could be me using the new silica. I switched from OSA28 to Power Si. But over all so far so good.
Really starting to hit the flower stretch this week - First week of flower and we have our first little pistils shooting. The Mephisto plants are all larger than the Fast Buds plants so far, but I think I may have messed up and not put enough drainage in the bottom of the pots. we shall see if my Yield and plant size will suffer.
Everything looks really great. Flower has reallt taken hold here at the end of week 5. Ive started my flower hardener (mendocino avalanche) and they really have perked up. Im getting much slower dry out than i woukd like, next time more perlite in my bottom layer for sure. These larger pots (7.5 gallon) really take some dialing in but the plants love them for sure. I habe 6 inches of roots coming out of the bottom of all of them. Ill try to get a picture.
