Was able to get my hands on this clone of Sour Diesel. Grower is a local farmer who swears this is the best strain he has, been growing it consistently for 12 years. I was originally trying to get my hands on Western Cultured's Dutch Treat strain (unsuccessfully). Hopefully this is just as good. If you have access to Dutch Treat from Western Cultured, let me know, willing to pay top dollar $$$ for a couple of magic beans or a clone. Had to spray this down and watch it closely during week 1 as there were nasty collection of spider mites on it from the local farmer I obtained this from.
lots of nodes showing growth, responding well to LST, feeding weekly with nutes. Daily worm tea feeding. As the nodes are popping out branches I am keeping them as low to the ground as I can.
Shes getting long enough that I can start LST training the branches. She is only getting daily hand watering but will migrate to supplemental RODI watering as well this week. I will continue hand watering as usual here is the plan for this week:
-Wednesday: 5ml of FoxFarm Grow Big mixed into 1 cup of Aquaponics drain water and 1 cup of worm tea hand watered with a turkey baster around the base of the plant
-Thursday: 1 tsp Azos mixed in with 1 cup of Aquaponics drain water and 1 cup of worm tea hand watered with a turkey baster around the base of the plant
-Friday: 21 tsp Mykos mixed in with 1 cup of Aquaponics drain water (fish poop!) and 1 cup of worm tea (made with black molasses, worm dirt, and RAW Kelp powder) Hand watered.
-Saturday: 2 tsp Aurora Uprising Grow sprinkled evenly around the top soil and 1 cups of worm tea hand watered
-Sunday through Wed: 1 cups of worm tea every day hand watered and RODI water from the automatic drip system
Training will continue as LST, HST, and light defoliation. Once I move it into the tent (should be this next week) I will start SCROG training and prep her for the 12/12 cycle.
This pheno has long spindly branches forming, they may need some HST to thicken up. Growing like a vine, trying to keep the plant low if she is going to stretch a ton in bloom.
"Happy little trees" this is starting to fill in nicely. She is starting to stretch a bit so I am HST'ing the scrawnier branches. I am on the fence as to weather I should defoliate this or wait a bit longer. I dont want her to waste energy on the weaker scrawny branches.
Leggy stems on a few of the branches along with the 3 tip leaves that I see with clones going from flower back to veg. Shes doing good overall though, looks like shes going to need a lot of training to keep her low and tight in the tent. Growing more like a sativa than the typical indicas I have run.
Sour Diesel is getting big, it needs to go into the flower tent and flip to 12/12 soon or I will have a hard time keeping it happy in the tent without over crowding the available SCROG space. Really good growth, lots of leggy branches though. They have the typical 3 tip leaves from cloning taken during flower, I noticed that if I leave those smaller immature leaves the rest of the branch stays scrawny. Plucking them and HST on the branch reinvigorates it.
Moved her into the flowering tent! Only a few days into flower and tons of new growth and stretching, glad I had a SCROG in place to train her. Already topped a couple of weeks ago so I will just keep training now. I will defoliate her next week as she fills in and makes a uniform canopy.
This is growing literally like a weed, it did REALLY well bouncing back from a heavy defoliation, lots of tops forming and the canopy has filled in the SCROG almost entirely. I am debating on weather or not I should top them again if the bud sites are going to stretch any more. Considering they are 2-3 weeks into flwr, I may leave them as usually week 4 the stretching usually slows down significantly.
Added some nematodes this week to help with fungus gnats and any other critters. I also have some Rove beetles on the way that I will start propagating. This is growing VERY fast, tons of tops showing up and already showing trichs! Canopy is almost totally filled in through the SCROG.
This is looking to e a heavy yield, I am not doing much training now, just making sure she is well fed. Added some rove beetles to help mitigate fungus gnats.
Lots of tops doing well. They are not super dense but there is a large volume of them. The lower leaves are receding already and so I have been defoliating the lower branches as needed. Not sure if this is going to be ready earlier than 8wks of bloom. Starting to see the usual signs of the end of bloom on her but I know she still has a couple of weeks to go.
Looking good- lots of leaf drop so far though so I will start looking at the trichs if it is starting to amber up. Most of the buds are turning orange and they are looking healthy!
By the leaves she looks like she is ready to harvest this weekend however the trichs under the jewelers loop still look pretty clear not many are amber at all. I am not sure if I should leave her or pull her as even the sugar leaves are starting to brown/dry out on their own. No more nutes were given this week.
She did well but at the end I think some fungus gnats or detritus or something happened as all of the buds went dark quickly while they looked like they should have continued fattening up.
Shes still stretching out, keeping her low to the ground though so its not mayhem in the tent later on. Topped the main cola at what looks like node 8. The branches are kind of thin and scraggly like my 24k clone had. I HST/pinch the skinny stems they start to thicken up so they can hold the buds later.
@Beangineer, I have great results too im fully switched to organics no more bottled nuts just sprouted seed and wormcasting/guano teas makes you feel a part of the process too its great way to grow!
@TechnoNinja, this is one of the first runs using Aurora Organic nutes in combination with my worm tea and other good stuff. I am pretty impressed with the results!
@Canna96, thanks! I am planning on cross breeding this with a few other strains once it grows out. I hope it tastes similar to the Dutch Treat strain from Western cultured as that was what I was trying to find originally. I will hit one of the bud sites with some feminized pollen I made from the Catalina Winemixer strain from Green Point Seeds (from Colorado). Hoping to get a gnarly hybrid with some decent sour/lime flavors!
It is not uncommon to see the leaves start to change color, die and fall off plant as you stop with the regular feedings, just the plant draining of the stored foods, they are close, I tend to harvest when Trichomes are at 90% Cloudy and 5% Ambers but everyone is different, my wife prefers more Ambers, - they are looking great and should not be much time now!
@MrJones, hopefully I will start seeing some amber trichs soon. None yet even though there is a significant amount of foliage and sugar leaves are starting to die off.
@FlavourLover, definitely interested to see how our strains turn out. Looks like we are both doing indoor, soil grows with a few different components. The other similar strain I am excited to try now is Sour Ripper from Ripper Seeds that @biggreens420 graciously recommended. I wonder what some crossbreeding would do between this SD strain and the Sour Ripper!
Hey, congrats on harvest. I’ve run Sour D before, it can continue to throw off new white pistils for another few weeks While the older red ones receded and fall off. Is that what you mean by the bud going dark? Just trying to help, maybe invest in a magnifier to check Trichomes as those are more reliable indicator for harvest. Good luck with your next grow cheers
