Selection Grow with some CBD Seeds.
In first week we popped the seeds and put them in the bigger rock wool cubes. Filled two trays for the first round with all the Genetics, mostly Tangie CBD, OG Kush CBD and Zenergy CBD.
In first week some seeds got a nice start, some died. Nature as it's best.
Used some t5 bulbs for germination.
Repotting the little Rockwool cubes into 4" rock wool cubes. In a few days this week these blocks get transplanted on Cultilene Rockwool Slabs for further root development and as a security of any dripper gets clocked.
Greenception GC Bar 8 lights are set on Veg Light recipe for the next 2 weeks of veggie stage.
After getting biggest smiles of the tight internodial distances, I went for a mainline of all 140 plants in two of these 1,20m x 2,40m grow tens.
Irrigation works well and I'm curious where this grow will us lead to.
Mainlining: I took all bud sites besides the 4th and 3rd note to perform a "double mainline".
Last week of vegetation stage.
Mainlining went well, the plants recovered very fast from the cuts. Leaf production was on par after 3 or 4 days (depending on the specific plant).
Really happy about the tight internodial distances and 20cm plant hight with such a great development of bud sites and maintaining structure. Looks like flowering period is well prepared.
Pre Flowering and flowering induction on the light side (12/12).
Now the plants stretch like 3 inches per day and get more bud sites.
EC of the solution is 2.0, but had a salt build up of EC 2.5 in the Rockwool cubes. So II did a little Flush with EC 0.8 for one day. (Dry back of the rock wool cubes needed more than 24 hours).
It needs some time every day to get rid of all those lower leaves, because good ventilation of the plants feet is a high priority for me at this stage of growth. There are just to many plants, like 25 per m2 and every one is main lined.
Big step for these plants from 20cm one week ago to now 40cm. What a stretch, what an amazing Greenception GC Bar 8 light. Love to play around with their light recipes, now I dialed in "Flowering Induction" with 13 hrs of light per day.
I took security clones of every genetics, for which I took one of the 4 mainline branches of every plant. So now all plants just have 3 main line branches.
Week 7 (2nd week flowering) was a bummer.
After the first week of flower was already amazing, this week tops it in any way. During this one week plant size doubled again. I love exponential growth. Now we had 400% length growth during the last two weeks. 80cm compared to 20cm height, that these plants measured during their 5 weeks seedling stage & veg.
Because of the Greenception GC Bar 8 is way more weak in deep light penetration, leafs in the lower levels age really fast. During this outstanding stretch, especially for the Zenergy (obviously a Sativa), I had to defoliate and remove lower side branches like on a daily basis. The LED lights put out such a nice spectrum, that upper leaves go from really tiny to really big in just a week or less. This might be a disadvantage of the superior light spectrum of the GC Bar 8 light. But honestly I like these super thick, super healthy looking fan leaves and try to let them in place until they are so weak that they would fall off alone in one or two weeks. I use my simple vacuum from housekeeping, to get in this dense canopy. Every leaf, that cannot stand the vacuum, is ready to go. All other leaves, that might not get a proper light amount, should stay in place to supply young growth with mobile nutritions like nitrogen. So it's important to look after these leaves on a daily basis to not oversee dead leaves, but also not to scrub all leaves at once. This is reserved for flowering week 4!
Bottomline, I need to have some space between the legs of my ladies to get properly airflow and no molding leaves that attract destructors and as a consequence of this harmful insects.
I really enjoyed seeing all the different genetics performing different during flowering induction. At this point I got to know, which phenotypes are stable in their Sativa/Indica ratio and which strains are more of a lucky shot and inconsistent. Really interesting, as this is my first CBD grow of my life.
Lowered the pH again to 5.7, so did some foliar feeding with CalMag to equal.
Still had a lot of Defoliation to do, but I believe we will continue this just until beginning of week 9 (flowering week 4). Then all bigger fan leaves have to go to make space for the younger growth and especially all these tiny little bud sites I really enjoy to see developing and doing the metamorphosis. It's all about showing off and being attractive for some male Pollen (that hopefully will not can be found in my tent :D ).
Did some defoliation of lower leaves, but kept the upper sides healthy. I decided not to defoliate these plants in the upper levels, since I invested in a dehumudifier to get the relative humidity under 55%.
I did much power cropping / bending to stop headbuds of growing above the lamps and to prevent light burn.
I love the metamorphosis of the buds in flowering week 5.
Limoncello Buds already fattens up, others are really skinny and others are still in a really hairy stage of flowering. But since week 4 of 12/12 I really see them getting noticeable bigger in bud size. Unfortunately they love to stretch further and further, so I did a lot of bending / power cropping. I think I‘ll get some light burn - so next time I‘ll shorten vegetation phase from 3 to 2 weeks. Outstanding, how powerful these lights are.
I think this is gonna be the last week for our CBD ladies with GHE’s flora series flowering ratio.
Some flowers really stacking up, others are really larfy or just not dense or thick. My favorite plant OG Kush CBD #10 (some weeks earlier the plant with thick stem and 3 droppers) does a impressive job regarding heavy side branches and stacking up. Not the most dense, but huge colas on all three mainlined branches.
Next week I‘ll start giving Ripen. I know it’s not perfect, because some Sativa’s like the Zenergy‘s flower reaaally slow and should get the normal flowering some weeks longer. But that’s part of the game when doing a selection. I don’t want to keep these long flowering cultivars in any economically good running facility.
It’s my first CBD grow and first indoor grow at all and I love how it’s going and how precise all these phenotypes come out.
This week again I did a lot of power crops to bend some head buds down, that got too tall and close to the LEDs.
Some last words: I love growing.
Flowering week 7 of the big CBD selection grow.
I decided to go one week extra with the flowering scheme of GHE's flora series trio - because as you see, some buds are really larfy and by far not dense or thick. Other buds are really thick already, mainly the Tangie CBD and OG Kush CBD. The Tangie CBD has the most beautiful flowering texture for now in my eyes. The Cannatonic, which I got as clones, are also really nice in their appeal.
Some already look like I could harvest them in a week or so, but I let these flower a bit longer to get the full or at least half potential of these super sugary Sativa's like Zenergy CBD or some Charlotte's Angel.
You see some light burn on some buds, because stretch was enormous in first three flowering week (400%+). But I try to manage it with some bending and power cropping. But next time I'll remove the boxes under my grow tray to get 30-40cm more space in height for the next run.
I testet my favorite plant, the Tangie CBD #10 on it's amount of CBD and THC (with GemmaCert). I got 0,4% THC and 15,30% CBD. I like these results, as I thought I might get more than 1% THC because of near UV / UV-A of these powerful Greenception LEDs. But everything alright regarding this.
