I wasn't planning on running the Purps again right away but there was a change in plans with my SweetSeeds testers not working out as I had hoped. Anyway, the Purps I harvested last time tastes like more 😋 It turned out really nice - super fragrant and tasty - but the yield was a little disappointing. I'm hoping to see if I can get a little more out of her this time around. I know I made a few missteps last time so hopefully I've learned from those mistakes and this run will be smoother - famous last words. 😂 She'll be growing along side some Zkittlez Glue inside my new, and slightly larger tent. Wha-hoo! Bring it, stretch! No issues at all germinating the seed - soaked overnight in distilled water and moved her onto a moistened paper towel between 2 paper plates the next day. Left her on the warming mat overnight. Seed cracked with taproot showing by the next day. Moved the seed into a pete plug and put it in the seed starter inside the tent. After a couple of days a couple of roots started showing through the plug and I then transplanted it into a 5 gallon DWC bucket. "Grandaddy Purps Fast is the result of crossing Purple Urkle with Big Bud and a secret hybrid to impart the fast finish. It is a predominantly Indica F1 strain suitable for cultivation indoors and outdoors which finishes quickly and producing very high levels of THC." Off we go again. Thanks for tuning in ✌️

Steady week for the Purps. She's growing well and her roots are starting to establish nicely in the bucket. Her PH was steady throughout the week, holding at around 6.1. Gave her a rez change today and upped her nutes a little. If all goes well, I may be able to FIM her later in the week. Thanks for tuning in ✌️

D21: Solid week of growth for the Purps. She was pretty stable throughout the week, with her PH dropping towards the end. Nothing crazy, down to a low of about 5.7. Gave the girl a pinch and successfully FIMed her a few days ago on D18. Hopefully she'll produce lots of nice tops and branches 👍 Water temps have been higher than I'd like, hitting a high of around 73 F before I did the rez change today. This is the first time I've employed the floor liner in the tent and am wondering if it's providing some unwanted insulation to the buckets. I took it out today to see if it makes a difference. I'm also making plans to vent the tent outside rather than directly into the room so hopefully that should help too. I'll freeze up some water bottles to cool things down if I need to take further action. Some of the older leaves were showing signs of a calcium deficiency (so it seems to me, anyway). Added a little extra CalMag into her brew today. Not too concerned. I recall the same thing happening with this strain the last time I grew her. It should be fine but I'll keep my eye on it. There seems to be some white spotting or something on the leaf edges. Not sure what that's about. Not overly concerned at the moment, but if any of you have any insights as to what that might be I'd be keen to hear your thoughts. Thanks for tuning in ✌️

D28: Solid week of growth for the Purps. She really responded well to the FIMing in week 3 and is getting nice and bushy. She was a pretty hungry girl throughout the week and I gave her top-ups with a slight increase in nutes almost every other day. No crazy PH fluctuations, she's been in a nice range during the week - from a high of about 6.4 to a low of about 5.8. I gave her a rez change today with another boost in nutes. Her roots have come a long way in the past week and are looking bright, white and healthy. I'm happy to report that my water temperatures are in a much better place now that I've removed the floor liner and and vented the tent outside. Previously, water temps in the rez were approaching 74 F, with air temps nearly 80 degrees. The venting has reduced the air temperature by about 4-5 degrees F and water temps are holding around 69 F so I'm pretty happy about that. I'll likely let her go a few more days before setting up the ScrOG and flipping the lights. Looking forward to some purple flower power. ✊ Thanks for tuning in ✌️

D35: I'm updating my original post as my initial thoughts were that I mixed up the seedlings during transplant as this plant was looking and behaving so much differently than the last time I grew her. I'm now pretty convinced this is not the case. The strain of Purps I'm growing is a fast flowering variety, and as mentioned by the wise @motoman311 in the comments, she likely has some ruderalis (auto) bred in it to help reduce the flowering time and I ended up with an auto leaning plant. That would explain why she's gone into flower under 18/6 lighting. Aside from the above mentioned anomalies, the Grandaddy Purps looks to be doing great. I set up the ScrOG on D31 and fully pancaked the plant, spreading her out was much as I could - it lowered the canopy by about 4" - 6". She bounced back pretty quickly and I did another tucking of branches on D34. I also did some super cropping and folded over the main stem. She's super branchy and has developed a lot of tops. She's entered the stretch and is already 19" tall despite being folded into the net a couple of times already. Pretty steady feeding and drinking. 2 litres of water a day with some nutes. Her PH has been very stable and within range. No issues. This was the final week for 18/6 lighting. Thanks for tuning in ✌️

D43 F14 The Purps is rocking. She's grown nearly another foot since last week as she goes through the stretch. She's been eating and drinking really well - certainly more thirsty the past couple of days, demanding about 3 litres of water/day. No wild PH fluctuations, she's been in range and her leaves look healthy. I've given her plain water top-ups the past 2 days so her PPMs are a little on the low side currently - I'll bring them back up with her next feeding. She's starting to get more stinky, weedy at this point, but I know from growing her last time there are some delicious fragrances to come. All in all, a pretty uneventful, trouble-free week. Hoping for another one 🤞 Thanks for tuning in.

D49 The Purps is rocking. I hope she's near done with the stretch as she's now approaching 40" tall. She's got a ton of bud sites and they're all plumping up and getting frosty. She's been pretty hungry and thirsty, demanding 3 litres of water almost every day. Her PPMs have been running in the low 900s with stable PH. She's due for a rez change and will get one tomorrow after 2-weeks of top-ups. Super happy with the way she is growing and she may actually finish within her 6-7 week advertised harvest time. 🤞 Thanks for tuning in ✌️

As mentioned in earlier updates, this 'Grandaddy Purps' is a fast-flowering photoperiod strain, but began flowering late in week 4 under 18/6 light. Here is the breeder's description, "Grandaddy Purps Fast is the result of crossing Purple Urkle with Big Bud and a secret hybrid to impart the fast finish." As this plant is displaying none of the traits it did when I grew it previously, and the fact that it behaved like an autoflower, I can only assume it is displaying signs of it's 'secret hybrid' heritage - whatever that might be 🤔 Whatever she is, she is continues to grow with much vigour and frostiness. She's finally stopped stretching and buds are starting to get plumper with some pistils starting to turn from white to orange. Her growth is branchy and dense. She's not super fragrant at this point. Still more to the skunk side - certainly none of the strong berry or citrus notes she had when I grew her last time. Her PH has been stable and feeding steadily; nothing crazy. I'm guessing about 3-4 more weeks til the finish for this mystery girl. Curious to see how she turns out. Thanks for tuning in ✌️

Not a bad week for the Purps other than the fact my PH pen went out of whack and the poor girl had to suffer through a couple of days of sub 5 PH levels. I actually noticed some light brown spotting on a couple of the leaves on the other plant in the tent so that raised my suspicions to a PH imbalance. I broke out the liquid test kit I keep around as backup to confirm and sure enough my pen was actually providing readings a full point higher than what they actually were. Anyway, I ended up chucking the pen in the trash as I couldn't even calibrate it again. I think I'm done with these cheap PH pens and will rely on the liquid test kit while I research something that is more reliable. I've been looking at the Bluelab stuff. Any other suggestions are welcome. Other than that, this girl seems to be just dong just fine. 2 or 3 more weeks to go. As the buds start to bulk up I've had to break out the yo-yos to to hold up some of stems that were starting to bend over. She's sticky and frosty and getting more fragrant now too with some of those sweet berry smells I've been waiting for finally starting to emerge. Looking forward to the fade and seeing if there will be any purps showing up in this girl at all. Thanks for tuning in ✌️

The end of week 6 of flower for this girl. The buds aren't huge but they continue to ripen and bulk up bit by bit. She's getting quite stinky now - dank and skunky on the nose; sweet berry and a little citrus when you brush against her. None of the purple colours showing at all as they did the last time I grew her, but as I've said in previous weeks, this plant seems to be a completely different genotype from the last one I grew. Her PPMs were rising bit by through the week (maxing out around 1200) but her PH was relatively stable. Lowered her feed quite a bit with the rez change today as we move toward the flush - likely by the end of the week. Thanks for tuning in ✌️

Started the Purps on the flush yesterday. Trichs are mostly cloudy now and some amber starting to appear. I don't think I'll leave her go more than a week before harvesting her and it may happen sooner. The buds put on a bit more mass this week but there will be a lot of 'smalls' in this harvest by the looks of things. She's frosty and sticky and her fragrance is wonderful - piney-fruity-skunky. Harvest report next week. Thans for tuning in ✌️

Well, this time last week I had in my head this girl would be harvested and hanging to dry after flushing for a few days but that is not the case. She's taking her time fading into the sunset and I was actually quite surprised to see that by mid-week her PPM readings had spiked over 300 points to around 550. I guess that means the flush is working 🤔 I changed the rez 2 days ago with just plain water and her readings have stabilized at around 200 PPM. She is starting to gently fade now and her buds are still getting a bit plumper so that's cool by me. With any luck perhaps I can hang this girl to dry along with my Christmas stocking 🎄 Happy holidays to all my GD peeps. I hope Santa is good to you all 🎅 Thanks for tuning in ✌️

Harvested the "Purps" yesterday on day 56 of flower. I didn't do a very good job of managing the undergrowth on this plant; especially near the back of the tent. I should have pruned away a lot more lower branches than I did. Consequently, I ended up with a lot of undergrowth and a few branches completely collapsed and ended up hanging upside down beneath the canopy. Lots of larf for the hash bucket. I took off all of the big fan leaves and did a rough trim and have the plant hanging in to dry in my small tent. She's a super sticky - piney and kushy smelling. I've got my humidifier running in the tent to get the RH up a bit so things don't dry too quickly. RH in my house in the winter months is very low - around 30%. Dry trimmed weight and smoke report in few days. Thanks for tuning in ✌️

This was my second time growing this fast flowering variety of Grandaddy Purps and the two experiences and the end results couldn't be any more different. Things started normal enough but during week four, under 18/6 lights, this girl went into flower. "Grandaddy Purps Fast is the result of crossing Purple Urkle with Big Bud and a secret hybrid to impart the fast finish." This strain likely has some ruderalis (auto) bred in it to help reduce the flowering time and the genetics of this particular seed produced an auto leaning plant - that or there was a mix up during packaging and it's a different strain altogether 🤔 I FIMed the plant once during week 3 and she responded furiously, sprouting several branches - and lots of undergrowth. Lots and lots of undergrowth. I really didn't manage her undercarriage well at all and should have been much more vigilant about pruning her branches and managing her shape. Consequently, she developed a lot of thin, whispy branches and a lot of larf - half of the harvest is destined for for the hash/butter bucket. At the end of the day, she displayed none of the characteristics she did last time I grew her. The purple coloured buds and berry, citrus smells/tastes were completely absent this time around. Instead her buds were more piney/skunky/spicy tasting - perhaps leaning more to her Big Bud heritage in this instance. All in all it was an OK grow. There were some other challenges along the way but at the end of the day up I ended up with some tasty weed so I'm happy about that. Until next time. Thanks for tuning in ✌️
