Hi fellow growers,
a bit late to the party as the Dinafem Purple Orange CBD is already in the vegetative stage for the past two weeks but better late than never.
As you can see on the first picture, the grow room is 70 cm wide, 50 cm deep and 2m high. For the soil, I use BioBizz All-Mix and I'm really happy with it. I use the BioBizz nutrients too. All of it with tap water and I don't check the pH. I had actually bought a pH-meter but it was not reliable and to be honest, I'm not ready to buy an expensive one.
I'm gonna do a main-lining to this one, I already did one for a previous plant and was really happy with the result. I'm following the Nebula's Main-lining tutorial more specifically. I will leave the plant in the current 10L pot until before switching to flowering. Then I will transplant her in a 50L pot so she can build some nice roots and grow big (hopefully).
The light is currently a 55W COB LED at 4000K. When switching to flowering, I will add an additional 55W COB at 3500K. The light is actually at around 30cm from the top. I guess I could get even closer, i'm just a bit scared to burn her.
Currently watering her once a week, last one last friday with her first nutes. I'm basically following the BioBizz schedule. When she grows bigger and therefore drinks more, I would like to water her twice a week, giving half of what I would for a week.
I guess that's it for the general presentation.
So today was a big day as I started the main-lining training with a big cutting. It seems always scary this one, as it gives the feeling you are doing something really stupid. I waited until she had 6 nodes to start the cutting. I only keep the third internode and strip everything else. I will now gonna let the two new main branches grow up to 4-5 nodes and apply some LST to keep the branches flat. When we get there (4-5 nodes), it will be time for the next cutting.
That's it for this week. If you have any questions, feel free to ask :)
Take care everyone and see you next week!
Hi fellow growers,
I started some LST this week as part of the main-lining process. I unfortunately pulled a bit too much when I wanted to adjust the branches more horizontally, which resulted in a little scratch that I only noticed the next day. Hopefully it won't affect her too much in the long run although it must have added some stress.
Overall is the plant growing quite well I find. I watered her two times this week. The temperature is around 22 C during the day, which is reasonable to me (it's getting colder here and I'm already warming the room where she is just for her ;) ).
Hopefully we can do the last cut during this week to get to the 8 main branches. I'm gonna wait until both branches have 4-5 nodes then cut above the third node. Then I keep nodes number 1 and 3 on both and that's it, the main-lining will finally be on its way.
If you have done main-lining before, let me know in the comments what you think of the current stage :)
If you have questions or tips, let me know too!
Take care everyone and see you next week!
Hi fellow growers,
the plant grew very well this week. I'm always amazed as how weed quickly grows. I did the last cut on the two main branches above the third node. I then cut off the second node on both which leaves us with the first and third nodes, which make the new eight branches!
Until putting it to 12/12, I will simply do some LST to form the final shape and give space between the branches so that most of the space is used. I'm happy that she recovered quite well from the over bending from last week, she just filled up the little holes that appeared at the trunk.
I'm gonna transplant it the coming week to the final pot, a 50 litres one.
Nothing special about the feeding or watering, I'm simply following the nutrient schedule from BioBizz and watering every five days more or less.
Take care everyone and see you next week!
Hi fellow growers,
there was actually a bug on Friday and I couldn't add a new week, I wrote @growdiaries and I guess they fixed it since I can write this week now. To keep up with the weekly update, I am writing as of Friday, even if it's Sunday morning.
Few things went on this past week. I transplanted the girl to its final pot, something like a 40 litres one. As you can see on the pictures, I also added a 1cm sand layer on top of the soil. It's actually to prevent little flies to lay eggs in the soil and have their larvas eat roots. It's something quite common here where I live and that's the best solution I found. There is still the sticky yellow card in case some come flying around from the apartment. I gave her a 5 litres watering on the transplant day, that should last until next week.
I did some light LST too, so that the eight branches are a bit more spread. I guess I will now leave her grow the branches to have the branches be vertical on the last 10cm and then switch to flowering. Since I transplanted her this week, I want her to recover fully and have a nice root system before switching to 12/12.
I also added the second light on day 34, I guess I could have let just one for now but since COB lights output is the strongest in the centre and the tips of my main eight branches are on the outside, I thought it wouldn't hurt.
This thing grows fast I must say. When you look at the pictures from the transplantation day to the end of the week (just 4 days later), the difference is quite obvious: you basically don't see the pot anymore. I like the main-lining makes a lovely circle of light green from the tops of the branches with the deep green inside in contrast. I'm definitely in love with the plant.
On a separate note, I also took part in the Hempy Halloween Contest. That was really cool to be creative and carve some pumpkins, while being high of course. You can see the picture I posted for the contest on the week 3 of this diary. Results are coming soon and I'm excited for it!
Take care everyone and see you next week!
Hi fellow growers and welcome back!
Big news straight away: this is the last week entry for the vegetative phase! 😎 I did the switch to 12/12 on the very last day of this week entry so by next week there should be quite some change.
Apart from this, nothing special about this week. She kept growing very nicely and strong, as usual. I noticed she got some pistils out (second picture from day 40), I knew she was a girl since it was a feminized seed but it's always nice to have confirmation.
On the last day of this week, I prepared her for the stretch phase. I went quite heavy on the defoliation I must admit. I follow Nebula's main-lining technique, he says light defoliation before flowering (mainly big leaves normally) but I decided to do even more. I basically remove all big leaves that are on the inside of the circle, in order to give light to the little branches going up in the middle. I also remove most of the branches that are growing on the outside/under the main cola branches. I was wondering if I should go that heavy on the defoliation but I decided to not be scared and that it would be a good test for the next run. I could have let her 2/3 days to recover from the cut before switching to flowering but I thought she'll be fine.
Until now I'm really happy with this Purple Orange CBD from Dinafem. She responded very well to cuts and LST (main-lining stuff) and always grew strong until now. We'll now see what the stretch looks like with her. She is supposed to be a mid-sized plant, hopefully she gains something like 30cm+ in the next three weeks with numerous bud sites.
That's it for this week! I'm really exciting for next week and seeing her starts the stretch.
Take care everyone and see you next week!
Hi fellow growers,
for this first week of flowering, everything went smoothly. She took the defoliation from last week well and kept growing strong. She took 8cm during this first week of 12/12, nothing crazy but I hope she is gonna take more this coming week, so that she has pretty long main branches by the end of stretching. I'm glad the smaller branches that occupy the middle grew well and full up this empty space. I'm tucking daily the fan leaves from the main branches to allow a maximum light to reach the branches from the middle.
Last week I was wondering if I had gone too strong on the defoliation and then I read about this schwazzing technique, when one defoliates even more, basically removing most of the leaves, this on the day of switching to 12/12 and then doing this same heavy defoliation 20 days later. So be prepared, in two weeks I'm gonna apply the recommended second heavy defoliation and we'll see how that goes together. 😁
Humidity is around 70% at the moment, it's on the high side but I'm not too worried about it.
For the nutrients, I'm still religiously following the biobizz schedule and so far, so good.
I started this week to log everyday some basic data about the plant, like height, temperatures and humidity. I guess it would be nice to have a little graph at the end to see the evolution of the plant or whatever one wants to do with the data. I think it's good practice too.
-- Stereoscopic pictures --
You might have wonder what the hell are those two pictures where seemingly the same picture is put two times. They actually are stereoscopic pictures or 3d pictures. It's using the same principle as 3d for movies or virtual reality and it tricks your brain into seeing in 3d. Basically each picture is the view from each of our eyes. I made those pictures so it allows to see them in 3d without glasses. Follow along with this little tutorial (The picture "stereoscopy 2" is easier. I find it as well easier on a computer as smartphones have a smaller screen):
- Having the pictures in front of you around 30-40cm (15-20cm on smartphones) from your eyes, start crossing your eyes slowly.
- Both pictures are gonna move toward the middle. The idea is to make both pictures superpose each other in in the middle.
- Start to focus on the superposition in the middle and if necessary, adjust the distance between your eyes and the screen.
- Once it's in focus, you will instantly notice it and see my weed in crystal clear 3d! You can then move your eyes in the picture and enjoy it.
- With a bit of practice, it becomes quite easy to focus (1-2s only)
Even the NASA does it! https://stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov/gallery/crosseyed.shtml
Let me know in the comments if you managed it and if you find it cool or not! 😉
Take care everyone and see you next week!
Hi everyone,
this week went pretty smoothly. She is growing well and she actually took 15 cm during this week. I'm pretty happy with that and I guess it's gonna be the same the coming week.
I'm just adjusting the distance between the lamp and the canopy and that's pretty much it.
I'm questioning if I shouldn't have taken the little branches from the middle out as they are now putting some lower bud sites on the main branches in the shadow. That's how it is now so I'll go along with it.
Today I removed some lower leaves on the branches that are in the middle. They are pretty thin so it won't produce anything anyway.
The coming week will pretty much be the same as this one I guess. I'm looking forward to doing the massive defoliation from the schwazzing technique next week. That'll be the first time I do it, hopefully that won't be a mistake!
As usual, let me know in the comments if you have any advice or remarks.
Take care everyone and see you next week!
Yo what's up everyone?
This week the plant grew slower, 1cm a day when it was 2cm a day last week. I guess she is starting to focus on the bud sites. The white pistils really appeared this week and make some little balls now, pretty cool to see the birth of what I'm gonna smoke later on. Nothing much to say about it, it just kept growing nicely and I just tried to organize the bigger leaves under the budsites to promote the later ones.
As planned, I did this hardcore defoliation schwazzing technique. To be honest I have no idea what to expect from it, if it's gonna stunt the plant or really be beneficial. I guess she is gonna be ok (at least I hope so). She had 6 weeks of vegetative stage so she is somewhat old enough and she is in a 40 litres pot so she should have a pretty solid root system to rely on. I have to admit it looks a bit scary to cut so many leaves at once and she looks pretty bare now. The humidity dropped from 65% to 45% after the defoliation. I'm not here for the week end so I'll check on Monday when I'm back if the humidity is still at 45% or around. That would be nice as until now it was more around 65-70% and I would rather have it around 50% for the flowering stage.
I gave her 5 litres with nutes after the defoliation.
I actually never do this 20% run-off that I keep reading everywhere (I'm in soil, biobizz), I still don't understand why I should waste those nutes that are going out. Currently I'm watering her with 5 litres every 5-7 days with no run-off. I'm even planning on giving her 2.5 litres with nutes (following the biobizz's nutrients schedule) every 3 days. I suppose the plant would use the nutrients more efficiently then (that's what the nutrients schedule sheet from biobizz suggest anyway).
Let's see the coming weeks if this schwazzing stuff was a good idea or if I just fucked it all up 😉
Have a nice week everyone and see you later 👊
Yo everyone, what's up?
This week just follows the massive defoliation operated at the end of last week. @AsNoriu pointed out that it wasn't actually the schwazzing technique that I performed as you should only take most of the leaves but leave all bud sites (if I understand it well now...). So mea culpa! The plant took the defoliation very well I would day. She didn't seem stunned and the buds fattened up so I would say all is good.
The stretching is definitely over as she took only 2 cm during the week. I guess the only height she is gonna take is gonna make the main colas bigger so it's all good with me!
I guess it's gonna be pretty easy now, I mostly have to pay attention to any overfeeding. No more special training although I might do some little cleaning at some point.
I did again some stereoscopic pictures since I got some feedback about it and at least 2 people enjoyed it. If you don't know what I'm talking about, have a look at week 7 where I explain how to see those 3d pictures.
I guess I will take less pictures of each day during the week as the progression of the grow is now only focused on the fattening of the buds and it's sometimes even not that obvious from week to week. I'll do more of a photo session on the day I update the diary. I'll for sure share a general view of the grow and try to do some "artistic" pictures to have something nice to look at that 20 stupid bird-eye views of the buds (one is often enough). On top of that, it makes some nice pictures for the monthly photo contest. 😉
All right, that's it for this week. See you next time and take care everyone!
