Unfortunately I wasn't able to take pics or post last week, so I had to skip a week in my diary :( Flicking to flowering in the upcoming week, I want them to recover from the big trim and LST I just did, so they pop out a few new fan leaves before flowering starts. Pretty sure I switched their positions by mistake when I put them back, not to concerned with it though.
Had some nutrient issues with the Autopots as you can see by the discoloration on some of the leaves before the trimming, but I got it under control! One is growing much faster and bigger than the other, and can't seem to get enough Nitrogen. Once I balanced it out, most of the green colour came back, but a few leaves were permanently ruined. I had to turn off the flow and use a hand pump syphon to get the water out of the tray so I could refill the tray with nitrogen heavy nute bath for it to suck up before returning to what's coming out of the reservoir. Why you ask? Because of the ScrOG net, it wouldn't have been easy to pull the plants out -- also I couldn't find the turkey baster, which was what I went for first. More on this in a moment. More on the ScrOG net that is, not the turkey baster! :P
Because of the nutrient issues and the fact that I'm new to the autopots, I decided to nix the ScrOG net and go with my oldschool LST tie-downs. Will achieve a similar result, they just won't bush out horizontally as much as they would using the net. Reason being that I foresee needing to flush them or otherwise have to pull them out of the tent during flowering to correct shit. This strain is rated as a medium difficulty grow, and I can feel it -- it doesn't bounce back quite like the 8Ball Kush and GSC did. Honestly I prefer the hempy buckets in general, I just no longer have the time to water them every day! Plus, I was chewing through nutrients that way. Right now, the plants are only drinking about 3 gallons per week TOTAL. With the hempy buckets, I was pouring 14 gallons a week through 2 pots! The autopots definitely save money by using 1/5 the nutrients and RO water (which equates to less filter changings). I feel like if I were growing to sell (which I do NOT do, but I use street "values" as a baseline to compare against equipment/nutrients/etc I have to buy), these would "pay for themselves" after a dozen grows or so.
The clones are still chugging along. I transplanted them from the solo cups to some mini hempy buckets just to keep them going. Trimmed their roots when I transplanted. I just do "whatever" waterings with them. Sometimes I scoop from the reservoir. Sometimes I give a little RO water. Sometimes both at the same time :P Don't even bother to check the pH. Basically just trying to grow them slowly and see if I can keep them alive by the seat of my pants. You can see that one of them is growing bushy/thick. I'm going to hold onto both of them for now, but what I may end up doing is ditching the scrawny plant and taking two clones of the bushy one before ditching it (gotta obey the legal limit of 4!) -- and grow the next batch as clones from the same phenotype. This way, they will grow at the same pace, require nutrients at the same pace, and behave them same way :) I think that'll let me use the ScrOG net. Might be what I have to do from now on, pop a seed while the 2 in the tent are flowering, and take 2 clones of it before chucking it in the garbage. It'd ensure I'm always growing 2 plants in the tent that will be basically the same! Would save money on seeds, too 😎
