This one started with a 24 hour soak, after which the seed popped and it was placed into a rockwool cube. After just one day the sprout came up, and was placed under a cfl bulb for a couple days. I kept a humidity dome over it and gave it some diluted Plant Tonic in PH'd water on day 4. By day 6 there was strong root growth around bottom of rockwool cube so I planted her into her final home; a new 2 gallon coco hempy bucket. It's a base of Perlite just to above the drain nozzle, with a 75 / 25 Coco Perlite mix on top. I'm a few weeks left of finishing my first grow which is in a 3 gallon hempy, and thought going a little smaller will keep the plant smaller and more manageable for my grow space. While the other plant is finishing her days in my Brutebucket under the Vero COB's, this one will veg in a smaller classic Spacebucket, with an led bulb top light and led string lights ( 5630 ) around the sides.
She's coming along nicely. I've noticed that plants started in coco take a little longer to take off than when in dirt. But when it hits the reservoir it'll explode with growth. She's growing in a traditional spacebucket right now, with a single led bulb and a string of 5630 led lights. I'm adding 2 more bulbs soon and she'll have plenty of light. I'm only watering her every few days because the coco stays moist and i want to encourage the roots to seek out water in the bottom .
so this little girl is growing along in a spacebucket. If you aren't familiar you should check them out, especially if you are into DIY and have very limited space to grow with. The bucket is wrapped with a string of led strip lights, and a "drop light" with an led bulb. I was supposed to get a bulb splitter so i can use 3 led bulbs ...but I haven't done that yet. So she has just been under 1 15w led bulb with the diffuser removed. I also dropped her and spilled the contents all over the floor. I thought she was a gonner for sure, but she was fine. I repotted and she never looked sad.
She's been showing nice fast growth and looking healthy. Around day 25 it really started taking off so I topped her....It's my first topping but it made sense because she was growing strong and already has nice side branching. I need to keep her shorter than my first plant and will also be LSTing her soon. The next day (24hours) and she's grown larger, the topping didn't slow her down at all. I still need to get more light on her, should have it done by mid-week.
She's definitely an indica dominant pheno, growing so squat and naturally bushy. I started her on LST this week and she responded well, continuing to grow at an equal pace and bulk up the stems. She started showing sex already and will hopefully have a good growth spurt.
I had a harvest last week, my first one! so happy to have that completed, feel like I've been neglecting this plant a little. But in actuality she probably is just fine. She started to pre flower and is going into the flower stretch. On day 43 I gave her a good defoliation and readjusted all the lst to set her up for a good stretch. I need to increase the PPMs more, just hesitant to burn her at this stage.
Officially in flower now. Technically they came in last week but I think people call that pre-flowering. This plant has taken the LST ok, but didn't fight back much with upward growth, so she's still kind of short and squat. She definitely leans toward the Indica side with the shape. I like how I was able to spread out all the main branches to the outside of the bucket and all the secondary branches filled in the center. I was expecting more of a stretch, but this is only my second plant and a different strain than my first, so I don't really know what to expect.
Everything's looking good. Flowers are filling in all over and starting to swell. Started the week trimming off just a few leaves a day, but yesterday ( day 57) I took her out of her home and gave her a good defoliation. Being that she stayed so short, the canopy had gotten really thick and wasn't letting light through. I tried to not go overboard, even though I took quite a few leaves off, Just created space between the colas and got light all the way through the plant.
I have a UVB 10 reptile bulb in there with her. I've been running it for 30 - 45 min a day. I know it's debatable on whether it increases THC and resin production, but it's an experiment.
Going to start her on PK 13/14 next week.
Week 3 of flower looking good. she grew a little taller and got a bit thicker. Added PK 13/14 all week. Did some defoliation to allow light to get through the cannopy. I've also been experimenting with using a UVB CFL bulb (reptile light 10.0) in small doses. About 30 min to an hour at a time...until I left it on all day . Came home on day 67 and freaked out thinking I just fried my plant with UVB. The next day she looked totally fine. Stopped using the bulb for a while after that.
She's put on some bulk and flowers are turning orange. Still just a very light smell. I can come home from a day at work and walking into the house I don't smell anything, kind of weird. But when I give her a trim or disrupt the flowers she gives off a beautiful sweet aroma.
She's on cruise control until finish. Around day 77 I noticed she started drinking less water. With the Hempy bucket and daily waterings, I can tell exactly how much water the plant drinks because the reservoir is always topped off. Very helpful.
I checked the trichs and they seemed mostly clear and cloudy with a few ambers, so another 2-3 weeks I guess.
Wrapped up this grow maybe a week early. I had to go out of town and noticed some weird rust spots forming on my leafs. Even the sugar leafs started showing them so I gave her the chop. She never really developed much smell but was sticky and greasy as shit. For a Chemdog her smell was actually very sweet and almost fruity. The plant stayed short and squat with topping and lst. Next time I grow her I'll NOT top her , just LST, and see if I can grow a bigger version. For a strain that is 70+% indica, she isn't too heavy and actually makes a good daytime smoke.
The buds were wet trimmed and hung in my cardboard "dry box" for 6 days. I probably should have jarred them at 5 days because on 6th day humidity dropped and tips started to get crispy.
Ended up with 2.6 OZ dry weight.
Still not sure what those rust spots were on the leaves. You can see them on the sugar leaf in the first pic. any ideas? I was worried it was going to spread and she was at about 15% Amber trichs which is fairly close to where I want. The colas were short and squat, with the girth equivalent to a bottle of wine. You can see when i cut into the canopy, it was thick with buds all the way down.
It was my first time growing this strain and my second grow ever, so I think the next time I grow her I'll do even better.
Not sure if anyone responded, but that looks like Rust Disease. Its a fungus. I say this because it looks like the spots are on the leaves and not "in the leaf". Rust colors showing up in the leaf itself is usually a deficiency. If it was Rust fungus you should see almost a growth on the leaf itself. Just my .02
Awwww I was hoping for that Greasy Chemical burn with that heavy slugger high that pins you to the couch and leaves you with a dumb look on your face as you realize you have been watching tv with the screen off for 20min
