So I have a couple of grows going right now and as with all of my soil grows I end up chasing bugs around my grow room. I'm tired of neeming and transplanting because of soil issues so I'm gonna take the logical next step that honestly I've avoided too long and go with coco. Also I tire of mixing nutrient solutions so its gonna be dry amended super coco so to speak. I really love the idea of water only and I pray this works out. This will be new-ish but not completely foreign as I already do pH and aerate my water and all so here goes. Base is Canna and I'm combining Dr. Earth and Happy Frog amendments trying to find a good balance in NPK. I soaked them in SuperThrive RO water to start then germed in 4 gallon fabric pots under 2 Mars Hydro ts600s at 36 inches. I use these lights for veg and another set for flower on the opposite side of my tent. Germ rate on all my FastBuds seeds is 100% so far with 9/9 coming up! Love @fast_buds for their solid genetics. Well I guess its cruising for the next couple of weeks but we shall see... If you wanna know my nutrient ratios its 2 tbsp per gallon of medium regardless so my 4 gallon pots got 8 tbsp each total. Click the tsp/g measure option and sub tbsp for tsp and thats that...

Not much to report this first week. The first true leaves are out and the second node is forming. Just spraying with pH 6.5 water when the coco dries out and looks like the nutrients are doing their job and not burning anything. These may be a bit slower starting than in soil but we shall see...

Basically just still watching them grow while watering at and maintaining a pH of 6.5-6.8 for the sake of my microbes. This is the most uniform of the three strains this run. Of 3 seeds all started exactly the same. As usual this one is a slower starter just as my mature OS is gonna be a slow finisher. This run is super easy so far. The worst part of it all is keeping pHed water bubbled and thats a very basic grow task. Looking good for now but we shall see...

Yeah so maybe this water only route was too good to be true. Nah I've had a slow start in this new medium but honestly I think its because I've been using water that I've only pHed once and its taken a couple days to get through it all before I have to refill the sprayer. Yeah all that yellow made me think I'd overwatered, which isn't hard to do when trying something brand new, but I've backed off the water and the only thing I can think of is that the pH must be out of whack. All pots got the same medium mix and ratios of amendments. Next week I'll topdress one of each strain with Dr Earth and the other with Happy Frog fertilizers. For now I am going to work out the pH issue and try to get that sad looking seedling back on track. Its crazy how much smaller these are than the last one. Looks like this whole batch is gonna be small but I'll just have to learn as much as I can this go round and get better next time. We shall see...

Finally got my pH issues in check but I feel like the damage has been done on OS2. All of the other plants have gotten past their deficiencies and shown progress except that one. All in all I think I may lose one of these but 5/6 in a new medium and system isn't bad. Luckily both Purple Lemonade plants and both WCC are back on track. Gotta get the most out of OS1 now. Dry amended this week. See FastBuds Talent Contest for a play by play and explanation of ratios...

Well I have officially lost my first baby ever. The Happy Frog amendments have proven to be too much for these FastBuds strains early on. From now on I recommend Dr. Earth at least until flowering begins. The OS that got the Happy Frog food is literally burnt to a crisp. So I'm planting an amnesia haze to fill the tent slot while attempting to refine my seedling stage with this organic coco mix. If this is gonna be my new medium of choice I have got to dial in a foolproof system to make sure I get max growth in the first few weeks without stunting them in any way. So no more Happy Frog dry amendments early on along with less water as coco isn't as thirsty as some claim and properly monitored pH and this test sprout should hopefully produce much better early growth like I get in soil. The OS2 I decided to FIM spur of the moment so it hasn't really grown this week. Hope since I lost one the gamble will pay off and aid in a yield that otherwise was shaping up to be sad. So yeah no beginners luck with this system but we shall see...

Was really hoping that since I lost one that the FIM technique would really make this one explode. Alas she's just stuck... honestly I haven't notices ANY growth at all in a couple of weeks. Maybe she's focused on her roots in an attempt to prepare to bear huge fruits but I doubt it. Its just the cluster fuck of a run with this organic coco. Hate I had to learn my lesson with such awesome seeds and waste the potential they had. Luckily all these grew great in my soil mix so I'm probably headed back in that direction as far as medium but we shall see...

This thing is pretty much a dud. All the early stress plus trying to FIM an unhealthy plant just didn't work out for me. Learned some valuable lessons for future coco endeavors but after reamending the soil this week if she doesn't do something fast now that there are micro pistils I hate to say it but.... epic fail.....

Since the growth of this plant was nothing spectacular due to my inexperience with coco growing I gave up on this journal for over a month but this is how the plant ended up. One main cola and a bunch of popcorn. Oh well... live and learn. Results to follow asap...
